Everything was great about this place! When I called to make reservations I asked the manager, Gabino, if they could prepare a no carb meal since I started a Keto diet three days ago. They were so accommodating. We had guacamole, shrimp fajitas, and a salad with sour cream. The vegetables were super fresh and the shrimp was delicious. The service here sucks! The servers don't pay attention when you're ordering. We waited a long time to get our food. We ordered chicken fajitas and beef tacos. I ordered the tacos with a side of refried beans and I got bean tacos with no side. I bit into the taco and it was filled with refried beans. I wasn't expecting that and it wasn't good. I finally flagged down the server to tell her and she asked if I wanted the tacos that I had ordered. I told her to forget it because I didn't feel like waiting and would eat some of the chicken fajitas. She saw me eating the food on a piece of foil that the tortillas came wrapped in. I had to ask for a plate and extra tortillas. She did not say she was sorry for the mistake or anything, simply acted like it was no problem. Still love this place. I took my mom here for Mother's Day and it was a real blast. The lady working up front was really friendly and helpful. I got the Burrito Vegetariano (which is what my mom got last time we went). I really liked how big it was. It was full of squash, rice, spinach, tomatoes, and onions. This time, the waitress let us know the rice actually had chicken stock in it (which is a shame to know now since my mom is a vegetarian and she ordered that last time). My mom got it with only extra veggies and no rice this time. I got it with the rice. Honestly, the rice didn't add to the burrito. Probably the best Mexican I've had in a long time. It was the first time over gone to a Mexican place and didn't get sick in the stomach from the grease right after I was eating. The food was authentic and it was less greasy then most Mexican places I've been too. My stomach is very weak and o can't have too much grease or I get sick. I ordered the chicken fajitas and they were so fresh and tasty. My daughter got the rice and chicken fingers and was happy with her food as well. The staff was friendly and really good with getting refills, etc and the price was good too. Paid about 30 bucks for me and my daughter to eat. I would recommend coming here. read more

A friend of mine and I came here for lunch yesterday. It's a cute place with lots of colorful decor. The menu has a lot of items to choose from. I went with the number 28 lunch special. The food is very good. My friend and I both enjoyed our meals. My friend got a spicy shrimp lunch. She liked it. I tried a piece. It was very good but I have a hard time with spicy food. Ordered the chicken enchilada with tomatillo sauce it was very good , I like that it was healthier ... not smothered in cheese ... chicken was fresh and loved it was chicken breast ... came with refried beans that were nice and creamy , shredded lettuce and a dollop of guacamole... it was so fresh and delicious ! Oh and the chips they give are really good! My only complaint would be the salsa with the chips ... tasted bland , not like salsa more like just chopped tomatoes with no seasoning .... will return and hoping salsa will be better because the rest was delicious! read more

Food was good, however be very careful when using a credit card. They charged my card twice, two different amounts. Called and spoke to the manager and he said it wasn't them it was my bank even though my bank says my card was swiped twice. The manager says that happens a lot but never their fault. Hmmm.... I almost always get the El Ranchero, which is shredded chicken topped with chorizo and cheese, served with rice, beans, and 3 tortillas. Whatever you get will be good! And it's byob. I have been meaning to try Rey Azteca for years but always ended up somewhere else. Finally I stopped in the other day with my family. My brother has been coming here a lot since they have chimichangas. Their menu is pretty extensive but they didn't have a lot of pork options. I got the tacos Al pastor which were flavorful but didn't come with a lot of food. The filling was pretty light - the pork was little pieces rather than shredded like I had expected. 3 tacos with pork and pineapple a side plate of onions and cilantro and like. Beans on the side. I just wanted more , more filling in the tacos and maybe rice and beans on the side , something a little more filling. The salsa was good and their chips were fresh and hot. I'll be back to try something else, I wanted something lighter which is why I chose what I had ordered. I'll definitely try enchiladas or a burrito next. Their takeout also looks really good so that's an option as well. Our waitress was nice , the restaurant is fairly small and very packed with not a lot of room to move. We moved from AZ a couple years ago where we were spoiled by great Mexican food, but we have to say so far this is the best Mexican we've found in the Philly area. The enchiladas were flavorful and thankfully, not drowned in sauce like usual. The Chiles Rellenos with shredded chicken were great. The only complaint was the salsa. This is the new restaurant at Street Rd just west of Newtown Rd in Warminsrer PA. Pleasantly surprised when I asked for the most authentic dish on the menu and I got the Molcajete del Rey! Delicious! Steak, shrimp, Mexican sausage, chicken, cheese, one big, hot jalapeño , onion and cactus came out sizzling in a stone bowl! What has happened to Rey Azteca??? My husband and I stopped by today for lunch. It was after 1:00 pm and we were the only diners there. This place used to be packed at lunchtime. A LOT has changed and NOT for the better. First problem, the soda was flat. They used to have the best carbonated drinks- filled with lot's of fizz. Second problem, the salsa was NOT the same. Their salsa used to be nice and chunky, fresh, with a light consistency. This salsa looked like a puree of tomatos, no chunks. Typical store-bought, bottled salsa. Third, the food was not presented as it always has been. My side of guacamole was plopped onto the hot plate, right next to my food. Have you ever tasted HOT GUACAMOLE???? YUCK!!!! They ALWAYS gave you numerous plates/bowls of sides, not anymore. My hudand's dish was the same. The guacamole salad always came on it's own plate. The pico de gallo always came on it's own plate, the tortillas always came on their own plate. Everything was combined onto one small plate. It was awful. When I told the server I did not want hot guacamole, she told she also questioned as to why it was being served on a hot plate. She quickly brought me a new bowl of cold guac, which I appreciated. Fourth; the guacamole was not even good. I have always LOVED Rey Azteca's homemade guacamole- light green in color, pieces of chopped cilantro, chunks of avocado, a hint of fresh squeezed lime. Today I was served dark green slime, with a hint of a "vinegary" taste. Not good. I will say the pico de gallo, although hot, was good once it cooled off. It was the only thing on that table that tasted the same. Fifth, the prices have skyrocketed! Shrimp fajitas, $25.00????? Sixth, I always enjoyed their pork carnitas, Today, I was served chunks of pork that consisted of 75% fat, 25% actual meat. The seasoning was off. It did not have a good taste. The meat was hard to chew and tasted overcooked. Seventh, my husband ordered a side of rice, with no beans or cheese. It never arrived. Reme,ber, we were the only diners there! Eight, none of the regular servers were there. Everything was just awful, all-around. My husband was hungry, so he ate his food. I however, left most of mine behind. The server didn't even bother to ask if I wanted a box to take it home. The server was nice and did comp. us a few dollars off the bill. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, we weren't looking for any discounts- we just wanted decent food. We are not big fans of Mexican food, but would occasionally dine in Rey Azteca because their food was always fresh and authentic- not that awful Taco Bell-like junk food. I'm afraid we have no desire to ever go back. I talked to a friend about today's experience and they had a similar experience. Perhaps they are employing all of their good cooks/servers at their larger, Street Rd. location. Such a shame. This was one a great restaurant. read more

COVID-19 TAKEOUT REVIEW Out on York Road just before it enters Montgomery County from Bucks, sits Rey Azteca (King of the Aztecs), a decent Casa Mexicana located in what looks to have been formerly a Pizza Hut. Adequate parking and nicely remodeled interior with those colorful carved chair backs and murals depicting the bright life made famous in all the pastel paintings sold on the streets of almost every small villa in Mexico. Looking for a place to pick up a good meal, I picked this one because of strong reviews and relative proximity. Bottom line - It lost something in-between house and store, as many carry-outs do. Sitting in aluminum containers and covered to keep in all the moisture, it was no longer as fresh and crisp as they would have been if eaten right there. The Steak Fajitas were plentiful, but overcooked and too chewy when eaten at our kitchen table. Far too well-done and dried out. The side salad, guac and crema tasted good, but couldn't revive what was already deceased. Luckily, the Los Coco's Special (two beef/chicken quesadillas with red rice) was much better, especially with salsa roja generously applied over top. Very satisfied. Neither dish came with the promised side tortillas. The Chip & Salsa was a hefty bag of corn crunchies and fresh tomato, jalapeno, cilantro in a large plastic bowl. They were a strong compliment. No doubt this meal would have been better if we had spoken with a server about how to finish the steak (medium), and done without the grillman scorch them to well done. It's hard to get it right when the only dialogue is over the phone, and all you see is a packed up brown paper sack with your name on it upon arrival. We have been eating at Rey Azteca for several years. Today was the first time since the pandemic because it is a bit of a drive. The food has always been good, and it still is, but today everything was very salty. My husband and I both noticed it and we got different dishes. It seemed to be the red sauce for the enchiladas and the rice and beans. I wonder if they have a new cook or if this was just a fluke. I hope it is just a fluke because if things are that salty the next time we go we probably won't keep going for health reasons. I usually get a burrito but today I got a combo burrito & enchilada. The burrito didn't look like a burrito at all. It was very skinny like an enchilada. the difference between the two seemed to be that the enchilada was in a corn tortilla and the "burrito" was in a flour tortilla. Other than that the filling was pretty much the same. Good anyway, but I was a bit shocked. Most of the staff seemed to be new today and not quite as good as the old staff. The service was still fast but no one asked us if we wanted more chips or soda, which was okay, but in the past the servers asked every time they passed our booth if we wanted anything. I moved to PA from Texas and have been on the constant search to find a delicious Tex Mex restaurant in the area. Well folks.... Rey Azteca is it !!!! I'm so thrilled I went here for dinner this week. I had the enchiladas verdes, and they were scrumptious. My fiancé had the burrito, and it was equally awesome. The house margarita was huge and only $10! I had a glass of wine, a huge pour, for only $5.50. The atmosphere and music is classic Mexican. Our waitress was very attentive. From the exterior, parking lot was full with people waiting outside. Looking in, decor was typical Mexican kitsch. Put our name on the waiting list and were seated in a booth w/i 10 minutes. Menu was overwhelming and very Americanized. Lettuce on tacos, need I say more? Guacamole was bland, salsa was mild. I liked my shrimp burrito, husband enjoyed fajitas, but we've both had better (and worse). Our favorite part? BYOB. I don't think we'll be back anytime soon, but I'm glad we gave it a try. read more

I lived in Philly for many years but worked in Harboro, PA. I often travel back to my main office and when I do I try to frequent one of my favorite Mexican restaurants #ReyAzteca . . I'm a creature of habit here so typically I always get the chicken flautas. They are always hot, fresh and topped with cheesy goodness. You also can't beat the fresh chips and salsa. There's pages and pages of options which means something for everyone . . The service here over the past 10+ years hasn't changed. It's always quick and smiles in tow. The kitchen does an awesome job and the servers makes sure food gets out expeditiously . . It's a ways from center city but if you're in the area be sure to check them out! read more

This place is interesting and very good. It is very reasonable and I look forward to trying some other dishes like the fajitas and burritos. The decor is interesting and I felt like I was in Epcot . The screaming kids all night long added to the Disney ambiance , definitely not a romantic place so don't bring your match date here.... I would usually try the fajitas on my first visit to a Mexican place but tonight I asked for the best and most expensive (only $16.00 because it's in Warminster I guess)item on the menu. It was a ribeye with "cheese dip" which is basically a little cheese dripped on top of it. It also had 6 shrimp which were absolutely delicious, I recommend getting something with shrimp. The ribeye was actually very tasty but very tough. It is cooked on a flat top grill and I would bet it was precooked and reheated when ordered . This place is very busy and does a great business but this steak almost dropped it a few stars but everything else was so good I cut them some slack. Easily 4 stars if the steak wasn't so tough. The pico and guacamole, although super skimpy portions of each, were delicious. Also tasted the chicken enchilada and it was awesome! I can see why people love this place. The deserts were really, really good and only $ 3.99. Deep fried banana, wow.... fried ice cream was also fantastic. There lunches are really reasonable!
