Chile Relleno with homemade corn tortillas

This place has the most amazing and authentic Mexican food. My mother invited me here, as she is very demanding and picky about her food. Now she has me hooked to this place, which is not very close to home.

This place is so good. Like if want to eat authentic Mexican Food come here. They serve handmade tortillas. The guacamole and chips are good. The Jamaica drinks taste really great. My favorite plate is Barbacoa a la mexicana taste amazing. They have the tortas made with chicken taste also really good and the prices are nice for the food that they offer. I will also recommend to try the Aporreado (machacado) plate. The enchiladas taste really good with the quail.

Everything is phenomenal my favorite dish is the aporreado (i think thats what its called) its basically machacado in salsa.. comes with beans and rice. Its a bit spicy so it really helps the cruda aka the hangover. The only thing I would suggest is regarding both the flour and corn tortillas, although they are good but they are kind of thick and in my personal preference and opinion I think if they were thin they would be a whole lot better and earned the 5th star.. Still highly recommend! The owners take pride in their business and day to day operations, that speaks a lot!

Wow, what can I say? They claim to be homemade Mexican meals and no kidding. They live up to their claims. The meal actually did taste homemade! On the menus will not be your traditional meals which threw me for a loop at first. I decided on their take on fajitas and was pleasantly surprised. The beans and rice, full of flavor and cooked just right with the rice being tender and spiced nicely. The bean refried beans were runnier then I typically like but after sitting for a minute it was actually the right consistency to spread on the homemade tortillas. The fajitas meat was cut into tiny squares which proved beneficial when building a taco and eating it. I could not be more impressed with the flavor and level of spiciness these beef fajitas provided. The complimentary tortilla chips are very thick and the sauces are very smooth and mouth burning hot!!! The folks here are fluent bilingually which made the dining experience very welcome. From the time I got here to the time I left, felt as though I was a guest at a gracious hostesses home. The silverware... Something I pay attention to and if a restaurant has thrift store silverware I don't go back. Same as plates. Here, you will find the same quality of silverware as in most homes. They have weight to them which is nice. The plates are plain but heavy and not the cheap cafeteria plastic. Well done! I will certainly come back and try more menu items. They also allow for phone orders which is really nice. They don't have a soda fountain. Not a big deal. I drank water instead. Great real mexican food.

No amount of lemon salt or oregano can fix this culinary disaster

Came in had to seat myself took 20 minutes for the waitress to deign to look at me to take my order. I got cold tortillas. That's a no no in a Mexican restaurant! The menudo was overcooked to the point that it felt like chewing on rubber. I came here on a recommendation from my boss but he painted a totally different picture than what I found! Lousy service and even worse food! I put about half a dozen limes. A ton of oregano and salt, even added avocado to take some of the nasty taste in check but all to no avail. Never will come here again. You shouldn't either

This place is awesome !! The food & service is of the wall, definitely a must try. It takes a while to get your food but what do u expect it's made from scratch. It has become one of our favorite mexican food restaurant.

Cold and uncovered tortillas chips and salsas. Not cool man.

I love authentic Mexican food but this is way too deep down Mexican food that I'm just not familiar with and used to. Don't get me wrong, I rather have authentic than Tex Mex but I couldn't get pass the strong taste. According to my Hispanic husband, the style of cooking at Las Morenitas is what you get in different regions of Mexico. The closest I get to the Motherland is Taco Del Sol or other taquerias in the South Houston and Pasadena area. First off, the chips were cold. They were left out and uncover on a buffet table in the corner near the cashier. See pics below. It must be hard times because they were cutting cost by serving the chips in a plastic bowl! Plastic bowl?!?! I was scared the waitress will bring my food in plastic picnic plates. Luckily, she did not. I ordered the chicken enchiladas plate and my husband had the beef enchiladas plate. My daughter had the kid's breakfast plate. The plating was beautiful. Maybe cutting the cost on the bowl was a good thing because they were generous with the lettuce, tomato, onion, and avocado toppings. The Spanish rice was perfectly cooked and not hard and dried like some places. However, it could have use a little bit more salt. The refried beans were too runny but my husband likes it this way. I don't know if it was the seasoning or the marinade they used but I didn't like the pollo guisado(stewed chicken). The enchiladas sauce had a strong dried chili flavor and when you paired with the chicken, it tasted so odd. I wished I could have ordered the beef fajitas enchiladas instead because it tasted a lot better but my husband didn't care for it either. I found myself eating my daughter's left over pancakes which was surprisingly good by the way. If you like deep down in village of Mexico style of cooking, you're at the right place. I'm willing to try Las Morenitas again because I did like my husband's beef fajitas over mine. I can't say the same for my husband. It looks like I'll be dining alone next time. When I do, I would like to try their tacos.

Was excited to try their breakfast with fresh hand made tortillas. But we got there at 11am and they stop serving breakfast at 11am. I ordered 2 fried Gorditas(chicharrón and fajita). They were delicious!! The chicharrón was spicy but very flavorful. The place is small, very attentive waitresses and they had karaoke going on too!! Also they have a small station of the chips and salsa and you can serve yourself as many times you want!!

For drinks, my husband and our friends tried some of the margaritas from their large and unique margaritas menu, as well as their hibiscus agua fresca. All of the drinks were very pretty and it seemed like everyone enjoyed them, too! We started with their chips and salsa trio, which we all really liked. The chips were on the thicker side, but were crispy and not stale or chewy at all. Each of the salsas were quite different, and two were served warm, which we really liked! For the price, I'd consider getting the chips and salsa as a non-negotiable, honestly. For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. My husband felt like his ramen could have included more meat, but aside from that everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The highlight was probably the desserts, though! We got a quatro leches and two ordered of their giant and amazing churros. Both were incredibly tasty and reason enough to return for another visit in the future!

The "queso" w/carne seemed to be out of a can-it was orange & didn't have the consistency of real cheese- wasn't really cheese & was disgusting. It was $9.99. I am including a photo of the overcooked beef fajita. A senior citizen can get the all beef lunch fajita special for virtually the same price as the fajita combo here ALL DAY at Pappasitos. It definitely is enough for 2. The meat melts in your mouth. EVERYTHING is better quality than here. Teo charged $1.50 for perhaps 4 or 5 slices of lime to make the happy hour margaritas made with a gross mix drinkable. That's outrageous. It reminds me that I had stopped going long ago when they charged extra for onions on enchiladas. Come on. You don't charge extra for chopped onions! I have never been to another restaurant that does so. Some even provide carmelized grilled onions gratis. I'm convinced that a $15. YUMMY mango margarita at Pappasitos would have given us the same buzz & tasted better than 8 happy hour margaritas here. I used to love the in house made flour tortillas at Teo. Tonight they were tough & uneventful. We arrived on a week night when they were not busy. Neither of the salsas were as good as they used to be.The water pitcher didn't even have ice when they refilled the water. I have absolutely no desire to return. Why would I?

The restaurant has an intimate indoor space and adjacent covered patio. Both were already full when we arrived which created a lively atmosphere. The inside was so tasteful - small but moody and warm! I'd definitely recommend a reservation for the weekends! We started with the aguachile de camaron as a starter and WOW my husband cannot stop talking about this dish. The perfect blend of textures and flavors - this will be a must for us every visit. We have had our eyes on the 5-course Chef Tasting Menu for $49 + the optional beverage pairing for $30. The experience felt more than fair for the price, especially by Houston standards. Each course felt thoughtful and slightly boundary-pushing, yet really approachable. My partner and I have been on a bit of a mole kick recently, so were very excited for the hanger steak with truffle mole. It absolutely delivered and would love to order this again! We were also heavily drawn to the tuna tartare starter, masa cornbread, and tres leches. The wine and drink parings were perfect and not too fruity. The brut rose was a perfect way to start and I always love a mezcal cocktail. I highly recommend anyone visiting to start with this Tasting Menu and leave the stress in the hands of Chef Adrian Torres! We had the pleasure of chatting with him briefly after our meal and were so impressed with his story and clear excitement he brings. The rest of the staff were equally kind and really added to the evening! Side note: We had the pleasure to attend Maximo's Cinco de Mayo block party and were so impressed by the community involvement bringing in local vendors and live music. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this restaurant for future tasting menus and events.

It's definitely a smaller, cute neighborhood spot with a really fun vibe. The service was good. Our server was funny, attentive, and made the experience fun. We started with the "corn ribs" appetizer and WOW. Probably one of my favorite corn dishes I've had in a long time. So flavorful and addictive. We also got the "Tiradito de Hamachi" crudo, which was fresh and delicious! For the entree, my friend and I shared the tacos (which comes with your choice of 3). We added an extra taco to make it 4. I was genuinely shocked that the mushroom taco ended up being my favorite because I almost always prefer meat, but it was THAT good. The fried shrimp taco was also amazing. For dessert, we got the tres leches cake. I'm usually not a huge fan of strawberry or fruit toppings on desserts, but the cake itself was really, really good. I ended up just removing the strawberries and eating the cake, which was moist and flavorful. The only downside for me was the drinks. They looked larger than they actually were because of the glassware, and they tasted a little watered down. I had two, and they just weren't very strong or super flavorful. Other than that though, the food and service absolutely made up for it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

I prefer traditional homemade Mexican food but here we are. (Oh I googled and suggested this place lol) Went in for a team lunch on a Friday. Coworker's birthday lunch and she wanted Mexican. Party of 9 and we were seated promptly. They have a lunch menu and a happy hour as well as a full menu and full bar. The interior was nicely decorated. And open. There is bar seating and patio seating as well. Our waitress was Aisha and she was amazing. Friendly, helpful and patient. And able handle our large group and a few more tables with a smile. There were a variety of options. Salads, fajitas, nachos, enchiladas, etc. Also complimentary chips and salsa. My Order: chicken tortilla soup, lunch fajitas combo - chicken and beef. Chicken tortilla soup (3.5/5) - it was a bit salty for me but I am not a salt person so most things are salty to me; everyone else said it was tasty, there were tons of shredded chicken, avocado pieces, tortilla strips Fajitas - combo (4/5) - chicken was seasoned well and the beef (medium rare) was perfection and so tender and juicy, mexican rice was fluffy, and normally I would pass on the beans and get extra rice but my coworker suggested the charro beans and wow, that was a win - the seasoning was great, there were chunks of meat and the texture was nice, the only thing that could have been done better is the flour tortillas - they over-charred them making them too crispy and left them with a burnt taste. A couple of people got the elote salad and raved about it. So that will be a next time try. Def will be back. Everyone enjoyed their meals and some even ordered food to go. Would recommend.
