Read some great reviews on this Viet-cajun crawfish spot in SE Houston and decided to give it a try. It's in a small plaza ( semi sketchy area) on Fuqua right off of 45. I went at 430 for a pickup order and the entire restaurant was packed. Picked up their 5 LB crawfish boil bag for 35 which is a steal for Viet crawfish and shrimp fried rice for 16. The crawfish were seasoned really well with viet spices and were huge as it's peak season. The fried rice was flavorful with their star sauce and 1 lb of shrimp. A great spot and much more affordable option to nearby alternative like Crawfish cafe. read more

It was sooooo good! The mango habanero wings were yummy. Fried seafood was crispy and fresh (but that tartar sauce! Drool!). And the crawfish was saucy, spicy, and a great size. They had a special with 1 pound crawfish, half a pound of shrimp, potatoes and corn for $16.50, which I thought was a great price. I would definitely come back anytime I'm on this side of town. Okay, let me start nice because my mama raised me right. Food? Cool. Solid. I'd give it a 7 outta 10. And the tall guy working there? Baby, give that man a raise, a bonus, a sandwich, something. He was phenomenal. Now boom. We pulled up because TikTok said folks been coming here for YEARS. Years? After my visit I said, "Okay... I might come back for the food, but I ain't about to get a punch card." So there's this family with a baby. They ordered to-go and were kinda standing off to the side by the ice machine that was running slow looking lost, like they were waiting for somebody to claim them. The cashier with the French braid didn't really give instructions, so they just hovered. Then a waitress with a bun told them to go stand in the back. And listen... it wasn't what she said, it was how she said it. It came off more "move" than "let me help you." Meanwhile another group was offered a order that was messed up and got it free. And I'm not saying nothing... but I did blink a little harder after that. Like hmm. Interesting. Noted. Again -- the tall gentleman? Amazing. The food? Good. The vibe? Tis the (crawfish) season. Lone Star has been our go to seafood spot on the Southside of town for years. The food is always hot and fresh. You know the seafood is cooked well when the snow crab easily comes out of the shell and the shrimp peels easily. The crawfish is currently medium in size ($10.99/lb). The stuffed boudin balls have a good amount of shrimp and cheese in the middle all while being nice and crispy. A household favorite is the shrimp fried rice. They do not skimp on the shrimp. Service is quick and all of the staff are friendly. Lone Star is a good place to grab food, an iced cold beer and catch a game if you dine in. read more

We stopped by a small family restaurant for a quick Saturday lunch. Despite having very little people in the restaurant, we had really good service and fresh food from the kitchen. We ordered the box and the shrimp Poboy. The shrimp Poboy had the option between tartar sauce, mayo, and spicy mayo. We opted for the tartar sauce. It came with a bed of seasoned fries. The shrimp was extra crispy and it had generous amounts of sauce. This definitely will fill me up if I had this for weekday lunch! The box came with copious amounts of sausage and shrimp. It also had a lot of spice, which reminds me of gumbo or jambalaya. It was very well seasoned, and it also felt like huge portions. My coworker posted a picture of her food and it looked amazing. Today, I decided to give them a try. I opted for the shrimp and crawfish fried rice plate. The size is generous for the price...I added an egg. The service was great as I had ordered online for pickup. My item was ready when I arrived. I was expecting the egg added to be chopped up in the fried rice. I was also surprised by the fried rice as it was more of a yellow color. I will say they do give you ample shrimp and crawfish. However, I did not care for the flavor of everything together. I ended up throwing the egg away. The rice was a little better after that. Unfortunately, I did not like the dish in the end. The customer service is abhorrent. I spent 100+ $ on crawfish and was told I would have to pay for salt. And then had to wait until I was almost done with my crawfish for someone to get a small container from the shelf. Disappointing experience with the host stand. We waited more than 30 minutes and explicitly told the host we were happy to take a 2-top. When one opened up, they seated another party at it and left us still waiting, with no acknowledgment or apology. Great reasonable price for crawfish. $8.50lb and on top of that it was so good. You need to hurry while crawfish is still in season cause their crawfish are huge! You have to walk up the cashier to order and then they deliver the food to your table. I love that they have hot butter on tap, bunch of little bowls and condiments. It just made everything great. On top of that when you eat your crawfish they'll check in on you, fill up your water, and dump out your eaten crawfish bowl. Would def come again for crawfish. It was a great experience, although it was a bit awkward to just be standing around, I got my meal quite fast in five minutes. I got the two fish filet order which was a little thin but it was fine. The tartar sauce they gave was absolutely great and I was happy I got an extra order of hush puppies on the side because just two were not going to cut it. The placed was quite packed though and so I felt a little weird just standing and waiting for my order but that was more of my problem. Oh yeah, I finished most of my plate before I could take a picture of it, but I like the size of the portions especially as a meal during lent as it is now. Most folks wouldn't consider South Houston a food destination, but I think it's places like Lone Star Seafood that make the journey worth it. There are an absurd number of Viet-Cajun spots in the city, but so many of them lack the homey vibe, excellent service, and high quality food at affordable prices They're located along a strip mall next to Ben Thanh Supermarket (#1) and a handful of local businesses but it's incredibly easy to miss. Parking is going to be plentiful and it's rarely ever busy in here. I realized they open just before the pandemic hit, so I imagine the last few years hasn't been easy. Food wise, it's a non-stop collection of bangers with enough hits that will satisfy most folks. The box fried rice is a combination fried rice with shrimp, boudin, and andouille sausage and is generously topped with the meats. The fried boudin links ($4.75) are a tasty starter, as are the boudin egg rolls ($5.49), turkey necks ($5.49), hush puppies ($2.49), fried okra ($4), and somewhat salty cup of gumbo ($8). At around $10.99/Ib, the crawfish is the real star of the show. They're plump, juicy, and fully drenched in their sauces. I would highly recommend adding corn, potatoes, eggs, and sausage to the boil for added variety.I also think their crab legs, shrimp, catfish, and other seafood fixins are definitely worth a look. The only thing I'm not particularly crazy about is their wings or empanadas, but I just haven't tried them all. Don't sleep on the fish fillets and etouffees, the latter has a nice kick to it. The service is one of my favorite things about Lone Star. They're friendly, quick, and efficient. I really enjoyed this spot! It's tucked away right near a Vietnamese Grocery store, Goodwill, and other stores so there's plenty of parking. I was craving crawfish so I ordered a pound ($10.99) with potatoes, corn, and sausage with the K-sauce. The total came out to be around $16.50. If I recall correctly, they're doing a special where 2 lbs is 18.99 and 3 or 4 pounds for a better deal- you might want to call or ask them to double check. They give you extra butter and seasoning on the side which is nice. The crawfish were all pretty big and they were super juicy! If you get the seafood boil, I highly recommend the K-sauce. It's basically the Star Sauce (their house seasoning) but with citrus which paired really nicely with the seafood boil. The potatoes, corn, and sausage were all delicious too! Overall, the customer service was good, the interior was clean, and the food was comforting. I can't wait to come back and try other items on their menu. Honestly, we only scratched the surface of the menu, but what we had was yummy! We had fried shrimp (with fries and hush puppies) and gumbo. We got take out, but when u went in I noticed that the atmosphere was only ok (clean and all for sure). The woman who gave me the food and took my payment was very nice and efficient. My only complaint is that the gumbo didn't have okra - but don't get me wrong, it had a great flavor. I will definitely try them again because the menu looks great! Still one of the best prepared food values around. Fried rice was loaded with shrimp. Their food actually tastes like something, it's well seasoned. Wings were huge, crispy, and we loved the mango habanero sauce. Carry out daiquiris are tasty and have good punch. Young ladies at the order desk are helpful, but they sure could pick up some Windex and clean the front door, windows, etc. (yech)--there are tons of greasy fingerprints. Good local place to stop in during crawfish season! I will say if you're looking for just crawfish do not come any sooner than mid march! I came earlier than that and the crawfish were the size of my pinky! Also the service isn't anything to brag home about. BUT the taste of everything on the menu makes up for that completely. Snow crabs were my request of the day and these were pretty decent for the most part. One of snow crab legs was nice and crispy and snapped perfectly and the other was soft and would not snap open. Otherwise, it was good. The butter was good as well. I love turkey necks and I'm not sure how to describe these other than different, I don't love or hate them, it's just different, a tad sweet...nice sized, husband did not like them but I would order them again. read more

Very impressed with everything I ordered here. Probably my 2nd favorite crawfish I had this season and with a low $7.50/pound price tag...best price of the season. Spiciness a little lower than what I would expect for extra spicy, but great flavor and the cook was on point. Garlic butter crawfish, K sauce snow cluster, deveined/easy peel shrimp, sausage link, corn and potatoes. Lots of sauce so you can redip meat once you peel for extra flavor. For crawfish it wasn't needed, but once you peel the shrimp I enjoyed smothering it. This was bussin! I ordered "The Box" with an extra star sauce on the side and it didn't disappoint. This places gives lotus a run for its money no doubt. When I came they had a deal for 2 crab legs for $25 which is a steal and there were planter of clusters on each leg. The customer service was awful which is why I took off one star. The gumbo was only warm, not hot temperature wise. Not a spicy gumbo like most Cajun restaurants, and what I was expecting. Small serving with 3 shrimp and a tablespoon of rice. I would come back and try these items again. Crawfish sauce 4/5 It was good. Did not impressed me like I was hoping. One was a bit more tangy than the other. I preferred the tangy one.
