My family and I dine here often. It's one of our favs for home-style Spanish food. One of my favorite dishes is the Huevos Estrellados but truly I have never had a bad meal here. Good food, the service is professional but friendly and the restaurant is cozy and welcoming. They have a nice selection of moderately priced Spanish wines and the house wines are good as well. As usual. The best Spanish restaurant in Florida. Rosa and her daughter had found the perfect way to transplant a piece of Madrid to Pequeña Havana. The only thing missing would be a bar top serving Mahou on tap and some fellow playing mus. Food is authentic and delicious, wine is fair priced. We had cod croquetas which were average, tuna stuffed piquillo peppers: delicious and pulpo a la gallega (galician octopus), great too. Gulped down with a fine Albariño wine. Fun little place. I've never been to Spain, so I don't know how authentic the food was, but I don't understand why anyone really cares about authenticity. Why does it matter whether or not food mimics the ethnic traditions of some distant land? And why would we want to emulate those traditions in the first place? If you get your kicks out of the "authentic" experience, then consider that pre-Columbus Europe did not have tomatoes, potatoes, beans, corn, chocolate, vanilla, cashews, or peanuts, just to name a few foods brought from the New World. Guess what, most of the good parts of your precious "authentic" European cuisine is composed primarily of foods that didn't even exist in Europe before the 1500s. If everyone valued authenticity over taste, then we would still be eating wild ox a la campfire with a side of whatever my cavewoman scavenged. Tangent over, back to the review. The food was very reasonably priced here, with lunch going at around $10/plate. We left full and happy. The Cuban waitress didn't speak a lick of English, which may be off-putting to some, but made the experience more enjoyable for us. Come to Tapas de Rosa and feel like you're in someone's living room, eating food prepared by someone's mother. Because that's pretty much what this is. A warm atmosphere, with wonderful food. Often actually cooked by the owner's mother, in fact. The croquetas are consistently wonderful, and the best I've eaten. To me, the chorizo croquetas and the bacalao croquetas especially stand out. Every time we come, we get the pulpo a la gallega. Such a simple and delicious dish - I've never had octopus as tender as this. Other favorites here include the tortilla espanola with chorizo and the pimiento con queso. A note for those ordering the calamari -- it's not some deeply fried, dunk-it-in-a-cup-of-sauce dish. It's very lightly fried, and served only with lime to squeeze over it. Quite good in my view, but some diners will be surprised. This is my go-to place for a long dinner with out-of-town guests. This is a true hidden gem in an unassuming location --- Tapas de Rosa is on 8th street, just west of 95, in a small strip mall with a check cashing place and a Domino's. We were pleasantly surprised by this little hole-in-the-wall, family-run restaurant. All tables were full on a Friday night, and many people here seem to be regulars. The restaurant is not fancy, but probably the closest that comes to representing a family restaurant in Spain. Many restaurants and deli's in Miami reheat the tortilla in the microwave. It takes a long time to prepare (almost an hour), and normal practice is to either serve it cold or reheat it quickly to serve as tapas. It does not take away from the flavor. On Saturday night, a kid (grandson?) was at a front table when we arrived, watching a video on a tablet, being served a meal by a waitress who admonished him (in Spanish) to say thank you when he didn't on his own. The food makes you feel like you're in Spain, and the prices are great. I had chorizo cold (a LOT of slices), pimientos relleno (stuffed peppers with a great sauce) and garlic shrimp (like five or six of them). DC had gazpacho, a tortilla with onions and a creamed cheese spread (hot) with bread. Glasses of wine were generous pours for $6.95 each. Whole meal was $65.70 with tip. Every time we go there I think we should come more often. Only reason we don't is that it's something of a drive from our place, but any time we're in the area, this is our No. 1 restaurant. read more

BRAVO for Las Tapas de Rosa!! So far the best tasting tapas I have had in Miami! We were here on a Sunday afternoon. The service was great, they welcomed us with a smile and seated us quickly at the last available table. Our generously-sized pitcher of EXCELLENT SANGRIA came out right away along with some very good bread. The server (who spoke both English and Spanish) was friendly and helpful as we were ordering. We had the Spanish omelet which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The shrimp with garlic came out sizzling and was so good you may end up in a fork fight for the last piece if you are sharing. The fried chick peas with chorizo and ham was so flavorful, and it was served with plenty of sauce so there was enough left on your plate to mop up with your bread if you are inclined to do so. The place is friendly and welcoming. The taste of the food is good to very good. The problem for us was that at the time we were there everything was heated up in a microwave oven, which impacted the taste negatively. Potatoes were so-so overall, the chickpeas were good, the mushrooms outstanding. Everything however was heated up in a microwave, we heard the bing and about 30 seconds later our food came. It's a problem that could be fixed easily enough. Portions are generous, staff is friendly. It's time to retire the microwave though. read more

Two things took me through the doors of Doña Rosa's restaurant (which to me is more of a cozy tavern than a restaurant): 1. My husband is Spanish 2. It is ranked amongst the top 20 places to eat by MiamiRankings (and not "eat and be seen" but literally eat and eat good). We walked in on a Sunday night and since it was busy we had to wait- the women greeted us as we were regulars or if they new us. We did not mind the wait, since the place is divided in two areas and where we were was similar to a market filled with authentic Spanish goods. I was in the middle of surveying the stock when we were escorted to our table. None of the tables held more than four (maybe one of six?) seats, therefore making the place feel even more intimate and warm. My husband by just taking a glance at the menu said he would order it all- these were authentic recipes he grew knowing and had not found a place in Miami that not only assimilated them but made them just as they should. So, we proceeded to almost having it all. This is what we ordered: ensaladilla rusa (which is a "salad" of potatoes, mayo, and peas), pulpo a la gallega (octupus), pisto (vegetables in a mixture of a tomatoe-like paste), chanquetes (fried sardine-like creatures with fried eggs- yes sunny side up!), pimientos de padrón (YUM, salty roasted green peppers), and pescado adobado (fresh white fish slightly battered). All of the plates where really good, but, as any typical tapas plate you just want to have a try or a fee bites and try the next. However, the portions for each where way larger than you typical tapas and they where not platters that you can go through the whole portion that was served- specially the pisto, ensaladilla rusa, and chanquetes. So next time we will either order less, bring more people, or even (since we were treated as part of the family) ask Rosa to just cut the portions on ours ;) And definitely round your meal with a slice of tarta de Santiago; I will not elaborate so you have to see (and savour) for yourselves... Love this place! I work nearby and try to have lunch here as often as possible. I usually stick to the tapas because they are pretty good size portions and they are the best things on the menu, in my opinion! Must try: Croquetas (all of them are amazing but the ham are my favorite), Manchego, Pulpo A La Gallega, Garbanzos, any of the french fry dishes, Tortilla Espanola, Chistorras (sausages) and definitely wash it all down with a delicious glass of wine. My favorite wine is the Albarino which tends to be a softer white wine, but their reds are just as delicious! Will always go to Tapas de Rosa for a delicious and affordable meal. I saw this place had 4 stars so I was into it. I was looking for a less crowded spot to eat some Spanish tapas. So located in a strip mall and with 4 stars I figured it would be perfect. We were greeted and seated immediately. So far so good. Then we ordered a plate of meats and cheeses (delicious) , fried calamari, and octopus. The calamari was barely fried, no color, and tasted raw to be honest. It cost $11 which I think is insane for such a terrible dish. And the octopus just tasted terrible. Once we received the calamari our waitress seemed to ignore us. Checking on all the other patrons and ignoring us. I was so dissapointed and literally feel sick right now from the food I ate. Lets hope I don't get food poisoning. Overall incredibly disappointed and terrible food. I don't know why this place has 4 stars. read more

Small cozy place located on SW 8th Street. We went for lunch so they had special prices at that time. We ordered la paella, patatas bravas, and tortilla de chorizo. RICE- La Paella was ok. It had lots of seafood for the lunch price but to me I picture paellas as yellowy-orange glistening moist rice. This rice was dry but the flavor was good. POTATOES- I actually liked the potatoes. I didnt get mushy ones. They were fried to perfection. SPANISH OMLETTE- I think it was delicious and the size was perfect. I accompanied it with the potatoes. The worst part of the experience was the service. Perhaps they rely on a European approach where no one is ever rushed, and I am accustomed to the American way of always being in a rush, but the service took forever. Each item was brought out with too much time in between. They actually brough my complete meal first and then they brought the Paella second. So, I had to wait for the 2nd plate to get there in order to start eating. I would definitely go again for a quick bite. read more
