Located just off St. Stephen's Green, Etto is a cozy neighborhood bistro serving modern European cuisine with French influences while showcasing excellent Irish ingredients. The restaurant is small, energetic, and, at least on the evening we visited, quite noisy. We were initially seated at the bar but appreciated being moved to a table near the entrance, where it was much easier to carry on a conversation. The menu is intentionally concise, with selections divided into nibbles, starters, mains, sides, and desserts. We began with oysters, followed by the potato rösti and mussels. For our mains, I ordered Salter's pork with French bean salad and apricot mustard, while my daughter chose the cavatelli. She really enjoyed the pasta, but I found the pork a bit underwhelming. It simply didn't leave the impression I was hoping for. We also shared the Abercorn salad, which was fresh and lightly dressed with a creamy vinaigrette. The highlight of the evening was dessert. The Strawberry Sundae, made with sheep's milk ice cream and hibiscus meringue, was one of the best desserts we enjoyed anywhere in Ireland. Our server, Luca, was excellent throughout the meal, offering helpful recommendations and attentive service. For €8, we got 4 tiny shrimp and a few small pieces of sausage. We also shared the mushroom and spinach pizza, which was as hard as a board. I'm all for thin crust, but this was so dry, it was basically a giant cracker.... And the worst part was the mushrooms were canned! For €15, it just really didn't cut it. The staff couldn't be faulted, though. They were attentive and even gave us complimentary desserts for moving to accommodate another walk-in party. Unfortunately, I was just so disappointed with the food that I wouldn't return.
