We came across it while wandering around Dublin and wouldn't go out of my way to return. Really nice tapas in a lovely setting with good service. The restaurant's orange-painted front is hard to miss, standing out against the brick and stone neighborhood. You can walk here from Trinity or Temple Bar. Our tapas selections were tasty, including a plate of albondigas (you can choose 6 or 8). Oddly, there are also "sides" listed elsewhere on the menu. These tended to be veggie and included standards like Pimientos de Padron and delicious Pan con Tomate that tasted like a summer gazpacho though it was only April. We also opted for green beans that were cooked properly, but benefited from a little salt and pepper. The wine list looked varied and good, though my companion's glass of Spanish red wasn't stellar. I tried the seafoods paella. Which was good, had plenty of seafood. My only complaint is , wanted the bottom of the rice crispy, just like in Spain and more of the saffron flavor. We spent New Year's Eve at Salamanca in Dublin. Despite the service being good, and the overall ambiance being nice, the food was pretty disappointing. We are frequent purveyors of tapas restaurants and this food seemed lacking in presentation, taste, and overall quality. Each dish, when brought out, had a McDonald's like quality- it looked as if it was taken out of a freezer, reheated, and put on a festive plate. There are much better Spanish restaurants within walking distance of Salamanca. I'd put them on your list. read more

Mediocre at best. I ordered the creamy garlic chicken dish because it was recommended by my server and the patata rellena as a side while my friend ordered the tapas assortment. My chicken was just two chicken filets on top of a sea of cream and a few bits of mushrooms. The cream tasted like alfredo sauce so I felt like I was eating chicken alfredo without the pasta base. The chicken was cooked just ok-- a bit tough and dry in some parts and the sauce had too many onions. I would not recommend this dish especially for its high price. The patata rellena was an interesting dish consisting of potato, bacon, and brie all drizzled over with honey. The honey was extremely overwhelming and made the dish very confusing. I found myself trying to scrape it all off to get a decent tasting tapa. My friends tapas assortment was just alright too. Some parts were good while some were just bland and flavorless. This restaurant is too expensive for what they serve and I don't see myself going back. read more

I'll keep it short since I'm running through town seeing the sights. Overall: 5 Service: 5 Location/ambience: 5 Food: 4 Would pop in again in a heartbeat! Popped in for lunch. Grabbed the 10 euro lunch which included either a starter/glass wine and main course. It was difficult to decide as all the course options sounded wonderful. I settled on a mini gratin as a starter and the roast pork belly. , while my wife grabbed the calamari and Irish beef/chorizo burger. The mini gratin was delicious, not too heavy and well portioned, but my wife's calamari was a bit overdone. The roast pork belly was paired with leeks and a mushroom Madera and roast potatoes. The skin was initially perfectly crisp but got a bit tough from the sauce (but presentation was wonderful). The meat fell apart, and was seasoned perfectly. A bit large, but enough for any man worth his salt (as I'm sure it had a fair 'mount of salt ha ha....but not in a bad way) My wife got the Irish beef and chorizo burger with machego cheese which came with LARGE sweet potato fries. The burger was good sized and enough for any hungry person. The "fries or logs as my wife called them were great and cooked perfectly. We would certainly stop it again...especially as they looked like they had great tapas. Alas. Vacation, won't be back for some time. read more

Sick and tired of the depressing, rainy Dublin weather? Wishing you could escape to the Greek Islands or an Italian villa for a dose of some sun, surf, happy days and happier nights? Upset because you're dying to get away but a) don't have the time and b) don't have the required cash flow? Salamanca is the cure and the answer. Shake off the Winter (or in Dublin's case) mid-Summer blues with a night out at this authentically Spanish restaurant. Bathed in candlelight, lamps and cheerful orange hues, Salamanca is a trip to Spain with a significantly smaller pricetag (unless you fly Ryanair, of course). Take along a group of friends and indulge, Spanish style, in the extensive array of tapas Salamanca has to offer. My eyes are SOOOOO much bigger than my stomach and at my suggestion my dinner companion and I ordered enough food to feed a small army. Impossible not to, really, when everything on the menu looks so appetising. I believe every Spanish eating experience deserves a little paella, so I suggested the Paella de la casa, which is filled with all sorts of yummy seafood, from prawns to mussels and calamari. My friend had until this point been a Spanish food virgin (seriously, how could you get through 27 years without tasting these heaven-sent delicacies?) Needless to say, the paella really sold him on Spanish food and I'm sure Salamanca will see his face again. We also ordered a brochetta di pescado, which consisted of skewers of lightly grilled salmon, monkfish and king prawn. Yum! Definitely one to order again... to accompany the 'mains' we threw in some creamy mushrooms, potatoes with chorizo and a bruschetta-like fetta cheese and tomato platter. Add a bottle of wine (Spanish, of course) and you will find yourself with a king's feast for less than 80 quid. (note: for two people, 4 dishes should suffice - 2 of the larger and 2 smaller). On Sunday and Monday nights Salamanca features live Flamenco Music, and on Fridays a Latino band is on offer, so try to time your trip to Dublin's slice of Spain on one of these nights. Another hint - on certain nights of the week they do a Tapas Tower for 2 for 30 euros... check out the website, apparently it's amazingly awesome! read more

Came here around noon on a Tuesday. The restaurant was not packed at all that day. Maybe it was because of the rain. We ordered off the summer lunch menu. £10 for a glass of wine or soup (?) plus an entree. I got the tortellini and my friend got the steak. The pasta didn't taste fresh or homemade and the sauce was bland. We asked for medium for the steak and it came out too well done a bit. The food was very normal - nothing special at all. I guess considering the price we got, it was still a good deal? (doubtful). Won't be coming back again though. I'm not impressed. read more

I've been to Salamanca on a few occasions in the last ten years or so. While they were not forgettable experiences, they weren't particularly memorable either. I'm not really sure why. But last night was memorable and also a really good experience. Here for a combined 40th birthday celebration, I think the table was set out for 24 people! Wow, tough gig for any restaurant to be honest. But the staff at Salamanca were awesome. They really played a blinder, especially the one waitress who seemed to be our main resource for the table. I didn't get her name, but I'm sure her bosses know who she is. The food was really nice and was served way faster that I would reasonably expect of any restaurant with a table of 24. The highlights for me was the pork belly which was delicious. Also the stuffed peppers with beef chilli and sour cream. Add a side of patatas bravas to that it you've got one excellent combination. The wine we went for was the Pinot Grigio at the bottom of the white list and this was 26.50 EUR. It was fine. I also had a Caprioska, which was good for the 7 EUR price tag. I look forward to going back again and trying out Salamanca with a more intimate group. read more

I enjoy eating here when I want to have a nice romantic dinner with my other half. We were a bit disappointed that they recently changed the menu and removed several of our favorite items though. The service can be a little slow once in a while and some of the food takes a very long time to cook. Overall though, we'll continue to eat here because the staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Favorite menu items: Ham croquettes, pimento rollenos, chicken and chorizo paella and the bacon wrapped stuffed dates (sorry all, these were removed recently). We visited Salamanca while on Holiday in Ireland. Absolutely fantastic food. I saw they had a great lunch special but we ate for dinner. Didnt have a reservation but we were able to get a table for 4 fairly quickly. Started off with Sangria, which was delicious. Our group of 4 ordered 6 tapas and a side of garlic bread. The garlic bread was a highlight as it was perfect. We also got the cheese plate. pork belly, stuffed pepper, chorizo dish, calamari, and one of the shrimp dishes. The cheese plate, pork belly, and shrimp were some of our favorites, though everything was absolutely delicious and perfect quantity. We ended with a chocolate cake for dessert. Absolutely will stop in again if life ever takes me back to Dublin. read more

This was a last min date idea with the partner. The food was hit and miss, I had rosemary potatoes that tasted of nothing with a bit of sauce thrown atop. I also had the meat balls which despite a hair were quiet nice. After complaint to the manager he offered me a free drink, but I don't drink so I got nothing. Definitely the nicest Spanish food I've had in ages, and Salamanca is great place to have meal too. Double word score! Being a sucker for paella, their massive menu made it really hard to choose our meal. Everything looked so good, and they seem to really concentrate on their seafood tapas. Since the portions are quite large, I'd recommend picking two items per person, then share and share alike. The place is a little expensive, but well worth it. Since the restaurant is divided between a small intimate section in front, and a more open section in back, it's good for couples and groups. read more

I am trying to be the most objective in all my reviews so here we go: 1. The menu is quite big, a lot of choice, tapas themselves are really nice. The lamb miniburger is delicious, so are chorizos with pepper and wine, highly recommended. 2. The place is very popular and that is why crowded and super noisy, quite hard to communicate and hear each other. 3. The service is ok, seems a bit rush, but well for Dublin standards pretty decent. 4. The dessert - THE BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. I always say that it is better to have a small dessert menu but really good and with quality than to have a lot of choice while most of the options suck. Crema catalana was nice but the crepes with ice cream were absolutely awfully. It is like they were prepared some days ago and put in the freezer. As a lover of tapas, I had always been a fan of Salamanca, that is until recently. The last three times I have been there have been a huge disappointment (you would think I'd learn after one poor culinary experience but I am hesitant in passing judgement on a one off experience, anyone can have a bad day). The latest experience found two out of five hot dishes ordered were cold - meatballs and chorizo, not to mention the chorizo was pretty tough and had an air of reheat around it. The service was even more slapdash and forgetful and being ignored by the manager when trying to order wine borders on ridiculous. Even though we had booked for 7.30 we were told we would have to vacate the table by 9pm, in other words inhale, chug and go. I think I finally learned my lesson and will be avoiding in future. read more

Who knew we were going to stumble into a Spanish joint in the middle of Dublin?!? Was it great? Not really, but it was quite good. We ordered the calamari dish, eh! I have had calamari a million times better. Next, came the spicy potatoes and chicken in a garlic, white wine sauce. Again, both were good, but did not my socks off. The mushrooms arrived next (thought they were stuffed...we were so wrong!), as did the goat cheese with eggplant. The mushrooms were fine; but the goat cheese, not too much. There was way too much goat cheese and there was a slight funk to the taste. One of my favorite parts of the food experience? The tomato bread, which can be made almost anywhere. The place was cute and we had two waiters taking care of us. But. that did not help the fact that the food was a bit higher than mediocre. Salamanca is a busy little restaurant just around the corner from Grafton Street. This place has a great atmosphere with lots of hustle and bustle which makes for a fun evening out with friends and family but may not be the best for a quiet romantic evening. The warm comfortable interior is very inviting and the tapas are top-notch, a particular favourite is the Solomillo De Ternera, the chargrilled beef it's pretty juicy and delicious. read more

Right in the city centre, I expected astronomical pricing but to my surprise, they have a n early bird tapas menu that is great value (I think it was $16 for 3 plates). All of the food I ordered was delicious and included the black pudding, ravioli and croquettes. My dinner partner ordered the patatas bravas, meatballs and tempura vegetables. Everything was delicious and obviously cooked with some love as I didn't get heartburn on the way home. The service was great and very welcoming. The latter was THE best one, so delicious, order two of these if you go!!! Black pudding and scallops usually go really well, these were ok but I've had a better one somewhere else. Seafood paella was nice. We ordered a bottle of the Mia white wine, as I had seen on the Salamanca Facebook page that this was a recent addition to their wine list. Gorgeous, so easy to drink, totally recommend it. For dessert, my friends enjoyed crepes and a creme brûlée. I ordered the torta de Santiago which is a traditional Galician almond cake. It was delicious! But I was confused as to why it is paired with a shot of super super sweet wine.....this would make sense if the cake was bitter or bland, but it's so sweet. Which makes the pairing a bad one. Couldn't manage past one tiny sip of the shot. The service needs improvement. Although they are efficient at clearing plates, they weren't very friendly or attentive and also we felt invisible as we left the table and the restaurant: no thank yous, goodbyes or even eye contact!!!! So this is the reason my review is minus one star even though its overall amazing food. read more
