On our last day in Dublin, we had an early dinner at Platform 61, which we discovered through Yelp…read more-- so not quite a best-kept secret, but certainly a terrific hangout on South William Street. Usually, the dining room comprises an underground hideaway that is quite sleek and intimate. However, due to the lockdown measures, we had to do outdoor seating directly on William Street while we were there. The experience was still beautiful, thanks to the surrounding scenery. The cocktails were grand between the P61 Signature Cocktail and the Hugo -- both prosecco-based cocktails. The former was delicious between the peach puree and prosecco, while the latter was a little more tart with the elderflower cordial. For dinner, we kicked things off with gluten-free bread with a trio of dips that were quite tasty. The Tortellini I ordered was exquisite and scrumptious with how it was prepared between the goat cheese, asparagus, red onion, wilted spinach, cream sauce, and bacon. I applauded this lovely dish with the last bite. I devoured the warm almond flour brownie for dessert, served with chocolate sauce and gelato, which my wife could also enjoy since the dish was gluten-free. Overall, Platform 61 was a great way to conclude our second Irish journey. We will return, especially to enjoy the underground dining area.

The ambiance is very nice as well, romantic but also good for a fun night out with friends. 10/10 recommend adding this to your itinerary for dinner!

I did notice that other people who came in after me were offered a choice of inside or outside, but they just put me inside. By the time I left, it was pretty busy in there, so reservations might be good. I was looking at the lunch tasting menu, but decided against it because I didn't want all of those courses. Then later, I heard them offering other people a glass of wine instead of the starter. I would've totally done that if I knew that was an option. When I ordered, the server asked if I would like bread with that and I said yes, and then I noticed later that I was charged €3 for it. It felt like it was a complimentary offer. The service was pretty fast and I got my food quickly as well. I ordered a chicken dish in sauce, and it was pretty salty. I brought half of it home and put it over pasta thinking that it might cut the saltiness, but it was still there.

We ordered an assortment of things and tapas to share. Standouts included the patatas bravas and the calamari. I like my paella a bit crispier but this tasted good still with some nice flavors running through. They had a large drink assortment so this would be a great spot for drinks and tapas

We ordered the "java" (meat) menu, along with 2 of their tapas (sweet sambal udang and Javanese short rib of beef), and an extra side of rice. We appreciated the variety of flavors in this single meal. Some things that stood out: 1. The noodles in the noodle dish were of a great texture and were spicy (which I loved) 2. You could tell the short rib really had been cooked for 10 hours bc of how it fell apart and melted in your mouth 3. The beef redang and kari Java (lamb) has a generous portion of meat. If you want to enjoy the sauce completely, I recommend asking for an extra side of rice to eat it with 4. The satay was fried! It was my first time having fried satay and hopefully not my last Overall the meal was fantastic and because of that, it made me feel less guilty about getting Indonesian while in Dublin. Definitely check it out!

An excellent find in the heart of touristy Temple Bar!…read more I split the Java tasting menu with a friend and also ordered some pork bao buns. This was more than enough food! One of the tasting menus would almost be too much for one person to eat. Everything was fantastic though. I especially likes the Javanese short rib dish (very tender and melt in your mouth) as well as the pork bao bun. Overall, a great restaurant that I would come back to next time I am in Dublin!
