Went to the City Center in Dublin yesterday after work to relax and see the sites with my sales leaders last night. They recommended The Port House and it was phenomenal! The food options were unique in that everything on the menu are appetizers....everything! Huge selection so we ordered a number of items including duck confit, brisket sliders, a cheese plate, and lots more. The vibe was amazing and I loved the decor inside. The service was spot on! Quaint little Tapas location with excellent tapas options that were very tasty. There was 4 of us with mixed palates. Vegetarian options were delicious. Between us, we ordered about 14 different tapas and surprisingly cleaned our plates. The ambiance is comfortable. Service was decent for how busy it was. We were asked if we wanted dessert but were forgotten so we just asked for our check after about 30 minutes and left. We probably didn't need it anyways. I thought it was well priced and delicious. This is how our two minute experience went here. We walked in the bartender said hello, we said hello back and she was immediately visibly upset to hear that we were not Irish. She then proceeded to ask us multiple questions like "would you like a food menu?" and with our yes response to every question she snapped back "Give me a second!!" like we were bothering her and asking her questions while she was busy when she was actually the one asking us questions.... incredibly strange experience and we ended up just saying thank you and walking out and on to the next place. read more

Small, candlelit tapas restaurant in the heart of the Grafton street area. We had multiple beautifully prepared and tasty dishes. This place is everything! We enjoyed the intimate, cave-like, candle-lit environment. My hubby enjoyed a delicious Tempranillo wine while I enjoyed a Tawny port flight with chocolate pairing. Wonderful atmosphere, wines were ok and well priced. Was given a dirty water glass. The beef empanadillos were the best thing we had if you avoided the dipping sauce, which had an artificial taste and smell. The seafood paella smelled fishy before it was set on the table, tasted fishy too. The rice was dry and uninspired. The chicken skewers were over cooked, dry and flavorless. My wife and I almost turned around and walked out after being seated as it was quite loud down in the brick lined room. I'm glad we stuck it out though as we adjusted and even started chatting with our neighboring table. Being a Saturday night a little after six, we snagged the last free table. Service was a little weak to start but once we ordered our first round of food things were looking good. We ordered a reasonably priced bottle of Rioja wine that was quite tasty. In fact everything we ordered was well prepared and a good size for the two of us. Our favorites were the goat cheese salad and manchego burger. Our selections of cured ham and cheeses was also nice. Not too many veggies for us tonight but the potato and onion cake was yummy as well. The menu is quite huge and a little overwhelming but just pick some favorites and dive in. If this isn't the best dinner I have in Dublin, I'll be shocked. Everything about the Port House was above expectation. The atmosphere was so candlelit and romantic that it was almost a shame I was with my sister, but she's actually my favorite date because we love all the same food! The service was attentive, but never rushed, the food was absolutely delicious, especially the goat cheese salad and the lamb rump with lentils and red wine demi, and we finished off the night with a cheese board and two glasses of white port. Wow this restaurant is amazing!! I was surprised that our party of 5 was able to get a table on Saturday night but they were able to squeeze us in after waiting only 15 minutes or so. Like... really squeeze us in. There's hardly any room to move in this place without getting close to people you don't know. Aside from that though, the tapas are incredible. The atmosphere is dimly lit by candlelight. It's great to order a whole bunch of plates and just share everything. I highly recommend getting the meat platter and the cheese platter to share amongst the table. We ordered so many things that we barely had room left of our table, but pretty much everything we ordered tasted amazing! read more

My friend brought me to this tapas restaurant in Dublin because she loves it- there are tables outside and then inside is a dark, intimate atmosphere. We were seated in the corner and it seemed to take forever to have our order taken because the waitresses just kept walking by. We ordered about 3-4 dishes each. I had the classics like albondigas meatballs, Spanish omelette and then some pan fried vegetables and a board of cheese. The server recommended a cheese for me but although it was nice, I would have preferred a harder, saltier cheese such as manchego- this one was more like that hard mozzarella you get for putting on pizzas but it tasted good with the honey jam. The Spanish omelette didn't have enough potato in it, but the rest of the dishes were tasty- I think the meatballs had cinnamon in them which was an interesting twist. My friend had the grilled asparagus, a chicken salad and the pork belly I believe. Unfortunately they got the order wrong and brought some chicken and potato croquettes instead of the chicken salad. She ate one because she thought maybe I'd ordered it, but then later realised there must have been a mistake. At the end of the meal, we asked if they could bring out the salad. Unfortunately when the bill came, they'd charged for both and wouldn't take the croquettes off the bill because she'd eaten some of them. Now at 3 euros it's not exactly a big deal to take them off the bill as a gesture of good will since it was their mistake. WINE Great wine selection... So much kudos for that! FOOD Tapas food and the menu is very broad, offering lots of choice. For me, it some amazing tapas bars hitting Dublin these past few years, I find for the price the quality and quantity are very average. Dishes don't carry some of the amazing flavours the description promises. STAFF/SERVICE Hit or miss I would say... Been here on two occasions, both times spending quite a few hours here and on both occasions we had 1st half of the visit with bad service and what seems like a change of shift, we've then had a more pleasant experience. VENUE/AMBIENCE It has a great vibe in here, on both visits it's been slow in the afternoon but as the evening pushes in, the place becomes very popular. Ambiance is nice when it's not overly busy (really, any given evening) big selection of Tapas which are fine, but nothing really blew me away. The wine list is impressive though, a very nice and broad selection, was happy to see some gems in the Port wine section. I would definitely come by this spot for some drinks, but it's more of a restaurant than a wine bar, and I'm not totally in love with the food so I'd just end up going elsewhere. Before I say this: I know it's Tapas and the idea is "Sampling", but the portions are kind of ridiculous in some of the plates. I've had Tapas elsewhere in the city and felt the quality and quantity was much better. I mean, a quarter cup of rice nicely presented in a tiny dish is fun and all, but for the price it's just not realistic. I did enjoy the Croquettes, but it's hard to mess up deep fried cheese so I don't really feel like that's redeeming, either. I do have to say the staff is hit and miss, some times they are very friendly (though not very attentive, it takes some time to have them come back to your table whether it's busy or not) but one staff member in particular was just terrible. She was particularly prickly, a lot of attitude and just seemed annoyed with the whole idea of her job. We were there for several hours and she got progressively worse. Service can spoil a good meal and I was already not totally in love with the food, so I don't have a whole lot of reasons to go back... other than the wine. But that's a pretty big reason. read more

I had great expectations having read the reviews and looking at the menu. I arrived about an hour before closing and asked the staff if it was too late for drinks and dinner. They assured us that it was no problem. And they lived up to their promise. So high points for that. The food was a mixed bag. The Tres De Bocadillos was good. No complaints. The Paella Marisco was a disaster. To call this bowl of dry rice a Paella would be a cardinal sin in Spain. But then we were in Dublin, not Spain. Frango and Pimientos were not bad. The Albondigas was sub par. The atmosphere and vibe was okay. What was not okay was lethargic service. But you are in a tourist enclave and the restaurants really are not looking for return customers. So I understand. But there are better options. Beautifully romantic, mimicking a wine cave; this place is not for business, There is a huge variety of tapas; all which I've tried are delicious. Sometimes the choice however can prove a little overwhelming, especially for first-timers. The shorter, lunch deal menu was considerably shorter and much more efficient. This is the perfect setting for a date. Such a cute little place located on South William St, you could easily walk by and miss it. In the 6 years I've been in Dublin there have been numerous different things in this venue - bars, shops, restaurants, but The Port House is by far the best out of them all. It's quite small - going inside you have a downstairs and a small room upstairs that is lit by candlelight. There is clear plastic furniture - it's not as awful as it sounds - so in the dark light you have to be a little careful! But the atmosphere is so cosy and romantic, but not overly so. I come here regularly with a bunch of girlfriends and as with all tapas places it's so sociable - you just order loads of little dishes and everyone digs in. I'd recommend the paella, calamari and the little doughnuts for dessert are heavenly! read more

Great tapas in the city of Dublin. Stopped in for dinner on our last night in Ireland and was able to get a table without a reservation. We had the Paella de Marisco, Tosta de Salmon, Plato de queso, and Chargrilled Chorizo just to name a few. We really enjoyed the food. The atmosphere was really nice as well. They were VERY busy and I have noticed that you kind of have to ask for service (in Ireland in general). We ordered about 7 dishes. Although everything was outstanding in flavor, I highly recommend the sliders, mojo potatoes and goat cheese plate. Overall, great atmosphere and great for sharing. The Port House is a great date spot. It's dark, candle lit and cosy. Tapas is perfect date food because you can share a few plates and talk about what your favourite is. The Port House is brilliant but the only problem is that it's a little small and so get's full quickly. I've been disappointed walking away when there's no room in the inn. But when you do get in, it's delicious. We shared lots of dishes like patatas bravas, deep fried chorizo, manchego cheese, pinchos and saridnas. Finger licking good. Went here for the first time on a Wednesday evening with some friends from work. We each ordered individual tapas and shared (a bit!) and all four of us really enjoyed our food. I had the battered shrimp with aoli, the trio of sliders, and the patatas with three sauces. All perfect and delicious. Some of the others got the chickpeas, the goats cheese platter, and something with duck (it's dark in there!). We also got a pitcher of sangria to share and it was lovely. One person in our party is celiac and she frequents this spot because there are so many gluten free options on the menu and the kitchen are extremely accommodating to her dietary needs. (It's nice not to be treated as if you're a problem!) The staff were friendly and attentive but not annoying and got everything spot on. The atmosphere is cozy and dark! Which is part of its charm but perhaps not for everyone. Our table was the one that is literally in a hole in the wall. I really enjoyed how unique and authentic it felt. Prices were fair given that we were in Dublin city centre. I honestly cannot think of anything negative to say about this place. Looking forward to going back with friends and family. read more
