This was my first time visiting this restaurant and it was okay. We got black rice, fried goat, stewed chicken and shrimp legume. The rice was okay, but not as flavorful as I was expecting for black rice. My boyfriend wasn't impressed by the black rice and he's Haitian and a huge black rice fan. The fried goat was good, but some pieces were too hard. The stewed chicken was okay but was missing something with the flavor. The chicken was also really bony, so it seemed like it was a huge serving when we left the restaurant, but once we removed the bones, there wasn't that much meat. The shrimp legume was okay, I think they just added the shrimp to the legume. I was happy to have a shrimp legume option even if it wasn't amazing. The service was good and the food was ready quickly, so if you're in a rush, you can get the food fast to go. Overall, this spot was just okay, but we'll try it again... just not in a rush to try again. read more

You know how sometimes the kids want PB & J or Pizza or...? This was one of those times. The way we deal with that is-fine, don't order anything, no problem. One of my kids ordered...French Fries. My wife and I ordered our meals and I had possibly the juiciest, most succulent shrimp I have had for quite awhile-perfectly cooked. The sauce was a delicious tomato based affair with onions and peppers, with brown rice & beans and Bean Sauce on the side, some fried plantains...we were in good shape. At least we were in good shape until the kids got a whiff of our dinners and started with a tentative, "Can I smell that?" Sniffs the sauce. "Can I taste that?" This led pretty quickly to my oldest chowing on most of my shrimp-but that's ok, I was lovin' the Rice & Beans and the portions here are very generous. Check out the pictures. That's my shrimp dish...about 1/2 eaten already. On a Friday night around 7 there were only a couple tables in use, but there was a constant stream of locals picking up take out orders...always a good sign. As we were leaving the chef popped his head out of the kitchen to see how we enjoyed our meal. Maybe its a cultural thing but I always feel like my money is not welcome here. After having ordered there more than a half dozen times, I don't think I've ever been greeted with a smile or any kind of pleasantry. I always get the blank stare from the main lady taking orders, like "what do you want". I generally have to say hello and smile two or three times, just to get a hello. My girlfriend is Haitian-American and every time I eat from Las Vegas Seafood, I'm reminded of the wonderful home cooking her mom whips up during the holiday season and of course, my visits. Overall, the food is Amazing and the prices are excellent. For around 11 dollars, you get a enormous plate of food filled with rice, meat (of choice), a Haitian spice (pickliz) and a side salad. Honestly, you can feed yourself about 4 times from mountain they give you. All in all, you get TONS of food for an incredible price. It is not my mom's cooking but when my mom is not here, Las Vegas will do. Beware that this is not a "seafood restaurant" as it claims. They serve traditional Haitian cuisine. As a Haitian I will confirm that the food is authentic & not just some fusion cuisine. I also think the food is over priced which makes them loose major points with me. Another downside is that when you try to order by phone, they let you, but they don't actually make the food until you get there. Sometimes I wait 30 minutes after the phone call to leave, go to the ATM and THEN drive there & food STILL not ready. It's like they're scared you will order and not show up. So if you are in a hurry, it is not the place for you. But if you are ready to function on island time for a few hours, and have $30 to spend for 2 on food, drink, tax & tip, pay them a visit. I recommend the diri kole a pwa (rice & beans), bannann peze (fried plantains) & griyo (big fried chunks of pork). As a non haitienne that grew up in Mattapan, I've had my share of excellent home cooked Haitian food. Many Haitian restaurants are sub par in comparison to the home cooked meals I have had BUT, Las Vegas is really good. Not the best but really solid and also friendly. Meat is not too fatty, and the rice is excellent. I wish they sold the hard rice that gets stuck on the bottom of the pan.
