Good morning. I took my mother-in-law here today after church, and we were really looking forward to it based on the reviews we saw online and on TikTok. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing from start to finish. When we first arrived, we noticed the chefs in the kitchen wearing bonnets, which came across as unprofessional and not what we expected given the reputation of the place. After being seated, we waited nearly 10 minutes without any service and had to flag someone down just to take our order. We ordered oxtails with eggs on cocoa bread with cheese, along with jerk chicken with French toast. When the food came out, the order was incorrect--they brought jerk chicken with waffles instead. My mother-in-law politely explained the mistake to the waitress (a middle-aged woman), but instead of fixing it right away, the waitress began going back and forth with her, insisting that waffles were what we ordered. I stepped in to clarify that we had definitely ordered French toast, but even after that, the situation wasn't handled properly. When the dish came back, it was still wrong, and the waitress had an attitude the entire time. While we were there, we also noticed that other customers didn't seem satisfied. Several plates around us looked barely touched. The man sitting next to us ordered the same oxtails with eggs on cocoa bread and cheese and didn't eat his meal at all before leaving, which raised even more concerns about the food quality. To make matters worse, as we were getting ready to leave, I tried to place a to-go order. At that point, the waitress was still going back and forth with my mother-in-law. She then took our plate and said she wasn't going to deal with this and refused to take our order altogether, which was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. Overall, the service was rude, the order was mishandled, and the experience did not live up to the expectations set by the reviews. We did not notice that we came in after their posted hours until after we left and we noticed the sign on the way out.. They didn't say a thing about it and served us! They still had a full house when we arrived and we didn't keep them up for long. Still really great of them to be so kind and welcoming. My husband got the Jambalaya omelet and he loved it. What a find!!!! Every time I come here the host is always super nice and very patient. I think I've tried a bunch of things on the menu. I absolutely love the oxtail coco bread sandwich it's one of the best sandwiches I ever had, super creative and flavors just burst in your mouth. The grits are ok with some salt added, chicken wings are delicious. One of the best run punches around. The atmosphere is chill like a local spot where everyone knows you. Decor is a little dated but you're here for the food. The only major downfall is that this place is barely ever open not even open for dinner. I got the Benedict and it was so flavorful. The sausage with it was very spicy, but very tasty. I stole some sweet bread from my husband and it was the perfect way to get a break from the heat. My son-in-law placed our order. The order comes back, incorrect chicken and waffles. neither one of us eat waffles. I told her it's supposed to be chicken and French toast. Ore A Love Story has been on my brunch restaurant list for a long time. Today, I finally got the chance to check it out with two friends. We ordered the Surf & Turf Benedict, Jerk Chicken & Belgium Waffles, and Portuguese Sweet Bread French Toast (added fruit). The Surf & Turf Benedict was my favorite. The meat was seasoned well and not too dry. Overall the flavors meshed really well together. I expected the Jerk Chicken & Belgium Waffles to be the best out of the three due to their popularity on Yelp but it was actually our least favorite. The chicken was pretty flavorless but had great crispiness. The waffles were decent. The Sweet Bread French Toast was pretty good, but nothing too special. Food wise, I'd rate them around a 3.5 but their customer service was good which brought me up to a four star rating. If you're in the area, check them out. Ok I can say the food at Ore is very good. We decided to get brunch at Ore after church and was able to get seating right away. I ordered the shrimp and grits ($17), my cousin ordered the french toast plus a side of strawberries ($16), we both asked for their Rum punch ($8 each), One "child size" chocolate chip pancake ($9), a side of strawberries ($4), a side of bacon ($5) and a child size juice cup ($4). While ordering I did explain to the waitress of my toddler being extremely picky and making sure her pancake was child size, the waitress assured me it would be however the pancake was massive (I typically wouldn't care about something like this however after explaining how she likes her pancake, having to now plead and beg for my toddler to eat the damn pancake and now feeding her myself, this all could have been avoidable had the pancake came out how she wanted). Because my toddler is somewhat of a divaaaaa she no longer wanted her strawberries since her pancake wasn't made to her standards (‍). My meal (shrimp and grits) only needed a little bit if salt and pepper but was overall good. My cousin loved her french toast. I was so full from my meal that I barely finished my rum punch however it was a refreshing drink. When we received the bill we noticed that they already added their own gratuity (after tax) to the bill, which we thought was strange. If I could give ZERO stars I would‼ These reviews are definitely from people that know them or are not used to actual Haitian food. I am not sure how this place is still open. I decided to ask for a "Jamaican patty" - it tasted like the frozen ones I get from Market Basket; no authenticity there. 2. My other sisters ordered meals too. Grits were supposed to be made with "creole" sauce- but it tasted like a very watery marinara sauce... she was very unhappy with the unclear advertisement. She asked for this to be taken back. The Caucasian woman who we believe was the owner was combative. After asking for it to be taken back, we did our best not to share how horrible it was. Simply said this isn't what we thought it would be. She responded that they " need to keep doors open" and there are no refunds. NO one had asked for that, but that was her focus. I had Steak Hash along side it with crispy home fries peppers and onions. The food was seasoned well. Damnnnnnnnnnnn the strawberry lemonade was bomb. This restaurant has a Haitian flare to it. Servers were good and helpful with recommendations. This restaurant is clean but dark lighting with open kitchen when you walk through the front door. My 2 friends had the Shrimp and grits. This popular spot is only open for brunch on weekends, so plan accordingly with plenty of time! We waited for about 20 minutes before getting seated when arriving around 12 on a Saturday, then probably another 20 minutes to get orders taken, and waited another 40 minutes for our food to arrive. It almost seemed like there were issues in the kitchen, bit this is not a restaurant trying to turn tables asap, for better or for worse. The food was good and servings were plenty. We were a bit thrown off with a pre calculated 20% tip at a cash only restaurant with only 4 in our party. In addition, prices were not transparent and different from what was listed in the menu and chalk sign with no other signage. It was a bit frustrating to see this when the service was pretty inadequate and slow. The restaurant didn't feel very clean either with a lot of finger prints on the dishes. There are many operational changes that could improve the restaurant, but the food is fine. I was expecting the cocobread to have more of a coconutty or sweet flavor, which was lacking. Loved the food choices. Couldn't make a decision on a traditional Caribbean dish like rice and oxtail, or breakfast, so got them all. We had pancakes, waffles, stuffed waffles (with bacon), jambalaya omelette, oxtails and black rice, shrimp and rice.... All delicious! Couple of important things I didn't like, it's a cash only location, which, this day and age is just not acceptable. Pass on the cost of the credit card to the customer if you need to, use an app..., there are just too many options to limit all transactions to cash. It just doesn't seem right. So if you are going, make sure you have cash. Another problem, no register receipts. We got our receipt on paper where the waitress had done some math and calculated our total and tax and put her own tip which was a random rounded number somewhere between 20 and 22%. The food is pretty good, I really like the Portuguese sweet bread french toast and surf&turf.
