I have lived here at Las Villas Del Norte Independent living, it will be 5 years February 2026. I am considered poor, because My income is less than $50,000.00 a year. I am unable to pay the asking monthly. I can only pay pay $3,000.00 a month witch I feel is more than the place is worth. But Jolene Farish LCSW keeps raising the rent because She can. I have been asked to leave, because of that. I have been unable to find a apartment I like as well as this one. I like My apartment even though the whole place is run down and unkept. as an example the windows have never been washed in all the time I have been here. The stair wells have only been clean once. The only path to the dinning room floods when it rains. The TV in the exercise room is not even connected. The garbage rooms are almost always full of garbage. No one here has any idea of what any of us eat or when. I have tried to keep the chef aware of My requirements. There have been many chefs. I have an unusual diet, that consists of meal of watermelon or pineapple, 5 days a week, right now this is impossible, because I believe Jolene Farish LCSW is not allowing the servers to give it to Me. I only eat 10 meals a week in the dinning room, I eat nothing after 2PM. Just started this week the 10 meals are being delayed, by a half hour or more. See Pictures read more

I give ten stars to Jolene, the Executive Director. My father lived in an assisted living apartment at LVDN for almost three years. He made friends and was happy. Jolene is a gem, and Anna, who cleaned his apartment, is wonderful. There is no perfect community. I'm sure staffing is challenging and you will have to be diligent about communication at times. My sister and I visited my father regularly and took him to most of his appointments. Family involvement is crucial to their happiness in their final years - something that no staff can provide. My Dear Grandma was a resident of Las Villas for 9 years. She had beautiful care and was peaceful at the time of her death. I wish to thank the amazing Caregivers and Administrators for adding relationships and fun to Grandma's later years. She lived to be 101 years old and I absolutely know she was comfortable at LVDN. I ate meals there a few times and the food was pretty good! LVDN is one of the places I recommend when my hospice families ask. Peace and love! read more

Do not use for Memory Care. they are horribly understaffed. Items go missing daily, smells like Urine everywhere, and the residents are unmotivated to do anything. My father was there, he was found 5 miles from the facility as he left without anyone noticing for hours. Police report filed, complaints filed, and we ultimately moved him. There are options all over Escondido that are only a couple dollars more a month. Do your homework. Sad way for your life to end... read more

Villas del Norte in Escondido has been my home for over 2 years. I really love it here because the staff are genuinely caring and I can guarantee you that 99% of the caregivers go above and beyond to make sure we are comfortable. A new Chef just came on board and let me tell you his food is delicious. There is a strong emphasis on Activities here too. I strongly recommend Villas del Norte. read more

I want to update my review to say that Severino, the new temp manager has been diligent and caring to work with me to keep my dad there and keep costs manageable - at least for now. His care is good and dad's health has improved tremendously while living there. No assisted livings are perfect, but of the 5 dad has resided in, this one has been best. read more

DON'T BRING YOUR LOVED ONES HERE. My father in law was in the dementia unit here. He fell and fractured his pelvis and went into their skilled nursing unit. Upon discharge it was discovered he had a huge bed sore at the top of his ass crack and another open lesion on his penis. The care he recieved in their skilled nursing unit was obviously lacking. He also had a bladder infection and a blocked urithia making it impossible for him to urinate. His stomach was distened from a full bladder and causing him a lot of pain which he could not verbalize because of his dementia. He had to be hospitalized at Palomar Hospital where they drained off 2 liters of urine via a cathater. Unfortunately he died 3 days later. Don't bring your loved ones here. read more

I have had a Loved One in the skilled nursing Health Center for three months now. Prior to this he was in a different facility. In addition, I toured several facilities prior to his move to Las Villas Del Norte. I can say with confidence that the care is greatly superior here to anywhere else I have experienced. Because he is recovering from a stroke his care is critical to the outcome for his future, i.e. whether he can return to live with his wife of 68 years! The staff from the director to the administration, to the nurses, CNAs and RNAs, they all really care about the patients. I am thoroughly impressed with this facility and would recommend it to anyone in need of Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing. read more

My family has become familiar with Las VIlla's as both my father and mother have been here on seperate occassions. Most recently, my mother was in the skilled nursing care for a total of 10 days. Her care was truly exceptional. We encountered nothing but caring top notch careful attention to her health and well being. This facility is HORRIBLE !!! My mother in law was there for 5 months. The first 2 months were great, no issues and she was very happy. Then a new administrator came in and the place went to hell. My mother in law contracted scabies there from another patient that they admitted knowing she had it. Then she went untreated for several weeks. We took her outside of facility to dermatologist for "rash". We were shocked when the doctor told us it was scabies and one of the worst cases she had ever seen. It took 7 weeks to get her healed and a NEGATIVE for scabies. We moved her that day !!! Staff lied numerous times to us about her care saying they were following all the instructions from the dermatologist. That was a lie. Not only was this traumatic for my mother in law, it was a huge expense for us to move her and replace ALL of her clothing, linens, shoes......EVERYTHING ($1500.00) !!! We needed to make sure that we did not transport any scabies!! read more

My mother was there for 6 months - in that short time she was prescribed medication without family authorization multiple times, she contracted the worst case of scabies her doctor had ever seen, she could never get her room to a comfortable temperature, she had many personal items and clothing items disappear (and clothing that was not hers would be hung in her closet), and the food she was served never appeared to be very healthy (lots of frozen prepackaged meats and vegetables). The best thing that place has going for it is the med tech, Sofia - she genuinely cares about the residents. I would have never even considered placing my mother here, had I known what she would endure. read more

After a nightmare at Post Acute Rehab, I can say Las Villas, Dr Mallo, other medical and care personnel at Las Villas were amazing and the complete opposite. The Dr worked with us regarding my mother's care, the nurses, care givers, and PT people were caring , kind, and extremely patient. They were on the ball and attentive. We hope to not need the facility again, but if we do, we want it to be Las Villas Del Norte. Well done! read more

My sister and I thought this was a great place to move our parents into. We put a deposit down for $2000 and also first month rent for $2195. We started to move some of our parents stuff in on Friday July 31, but our dad took a turn for the worst, so we decided to pickup the stuff and cancel the move in. I ended up canceling the move in check cause I couldn't get a response back from Jolene. My sister had spoken to Naomi and was advised we were only getting back $1085 from the deposit, granted we had our parents stuff in there for 3 days. I then contacted Naomi and she advised me that they were going to give us another $800 back. We finally received after 2 month the check for $1085 and in the meant time our dad has passed away. I have called numerous times and spoke to Naomi and she keeps telling me that she is still waiting on corporate to give her the check. Now the past few times I have called I get no response. Just think, if this is the service we are getting now, what kind of service would our parents have received if the had moved in read more

Horrible care of my grandma. 1 worker on Sunday for over 40 people in the memory care unit! Not acceptable, need to be reported to the State

This is an update to my previous post. If you care about your elders, do not place them here. I have become thoroughly disenchanted with this place. There are some gems in the care staff, but they are rare. As I posted before, their level of care is far from what one would expect in a memory care unit. My In-Laws had been staying there for just under a year. During that time, there have been multiple issues with meds, communications, and care. This all came to a head a few weeks ago. Initially, we were out of town when we received a call from the home with a message on our phone saying that we needed to call them immediately. My wife repeatedly tried to call the facility. In fact, she tried to call 12 times on that Saturday and another 12 times on that Sunday. On Monday, after we got back home, my wife finally got a hold of someone at the facility to find out that he had fallen and they had to take him to the ER. Why in the world does it take 2 dozen calls to find this information out. We asked them about this and their lame excuse was it had to do with their phone system. Our response to that was, "this is not the first time this has happened" and we expressed our displeasure at this response as this is an issue we've raised prior to this incident. On the following Wednesday, we received yet another call from the facility stating that they needed to take my father-in-law to the ER again. This time for leaky and bleeding chronic stasis wounds on his legs. We informed them that we had a doctor appointment the following day, could it wait until then? After some some hemming and hawing, they finally agreed that it could wait until the next day. When we arrived at the doctor's appointment the following day, we noticed that his sweats were soaked with blood and seepage from the leg wounds. When they lifted the leg of his sweats up, the would was mostly uncovered and looked horrible. When the doctor had removed the wrapping, my wife and I were both shocked as to how large the wound was. It was at least 4 or 5 inches in diameter and was extremely weepy. My wife let out an audible gasp before she started crying. My father-in-law has chronic stasis wounds on this legs that are easily maintained if they are dressed early and maintained. It was obvious to us that he was either not being showered or due care was not being given to him. At minimum, if the facility had noticed these wounds on his legs, we would have expected a call early on in their development where we could have taken him to the doctor and had them addressed prior to needing to send him to ER. After reviewing my father's-in-law medical record, the doctor started questioning the care that he was getting at the facility. In addition to his leg, he had fallen and had to be taken to the ER 5 times during June and July with us only knowing about 2 of those times. His doctor advised us we needed to get him out of the facility otherwise, there could be legal repercussions for us not providing appropriate care. We were lucky enough to find another facility that was highly recommended by a couple of people including the hospice company that we use for my mother-in-law. Only once we gave our 30-day notice, did we notice things start to change. They offered to change the flooring in their room, they seemed to pay more attention to them, but it was too little, too late. At move out, again, the facilities true colors came through. The day prior to us moving, we stopped by to start packing up my in-law's room. When we walked in, there was feces everywhere, in the hall leading to the bathroom, and all over the bathroom. It appeared to be dried, so we new it hadn't been recent. This is not the first time we had noticed and reported that there were serious issues with the room. Once the staff realized we where there, they cleaned up the mess quickly. On move out day, it took us way too long to have them provide us with my in-law's medications and when they did, we found out that it was incomplete. There was a large bag of additional medications that they failed to find and they alerted us to the next day. They also failed to release my mother's-in-law hospice book to us. They claimed that it belonged to the hospice company and they would only release it to them. Well, my wife called the hospice company. They spoke to the administrators at Las Villas Del Norte. Las Villas Del Norte administrators still wouldn't release it because it contained "confidential" information. According to Hospice, it actually belongs to Hospice and the patient as it contains the patient's medical information that Hospice has been providing. They still refused. read more

This review is regarding their "skilled nursing facility" on the same premises. We chose to send my mother there on recommendation from a social worker at the new Palomar Hospital. I was amazed at the lack of skill and actual care in that dump. They tossed around my leukemia stricken mother and kept bugging her with pokes and prodding. They didn't listen to my mother's or my objections. She stayed 1 night. While we were waiting in the hall for the EMTs to get her on a gurney, I heard a lady down the hall yelling for help..for about 5 minutes. She was well within hearing distance of the nurses station where there were 3 nurses standing. I went to the station and got a nurses attention, told her straight to her face that this lady had been yelling for help for more than 5 minutes. That nurse said "Ok, I'll take care of it" and I went back to my family. I looked back at the nurse and not only did she not bother to check on the lady..she LEFT! I went back to the station and forced the other nurse to go look in on the poor lady. I was SO pissed. If that were my mother being so ignored, I'd sue that place from here to hell and back. If I ever see those nurses again, I will tell them just how horrible human beings they are. If you care anything at all for someone, and are in the market for this kind of facility, DON'T GO HERE! read more

Never would I say a good thing about villa del norte. My mother passed there and before they ever sent a bill for her 2 billable days they were sending collection notices. Once I received a bill, I paid it in full. Now 3 months later I get a new threat that they are going to send me to collection for $45. For What...I don't know. I've never received a bill. read more

My Mother was in memory care. We ere told she would get a shower every other day. I was told point blank after she was already in there that she only received 2 showers per. week. We couldnt go in because of covid restrictions. However we were able to see her outside and some tables and chairs. Her wheel chair was filthy, the tables and chairs were filthy never wiped down. I had to use newspaper to put on the table. I could tell her teeth were not brushed her gums were red and swollen. There was food in her hair and she unless I said something about her hair in her face and nails jagged and over grown they never would have taken care of that. My Mother ended up getting covid. She also had advanced dementia. She died shortly there after. This facility is extremely short staffed. This is a huge problem. I know there are people who really cared for my Mother but, then there were others who acted out of exhaustion and frustration towards my Mother. I would highly not recommend this facility for memory care. read more

Making the decision to put my mother into Memory Care was the hardest of my life and I researched every single facility in San Diego extensively. I was so hungry for guidance and information on how to make this transition and I learned so much through the process. One thing I learned is that no place is perfect and that you really need to pick your priorities. For me, my mother is very high functioning and needs a lot of activities and stimulation. She also needs to be encouraged to participate since in her regular life she would never be interested in crafts or chair yoga. She is an intellectual and had a very powerful career and she can't stand be condescended to. The program director at Las Villas Del Norte is extraordinary as are all the caregivers. They have been flexible and found ways to keep her engaged and she now participates in exercise, cooking projects, art classes and musical events. She has friends and seems to be at peace there. I think they are doing a really wonderful job with a very challenging task of keeping high functioning people with memory issues engaged all day. read more

My Father lived in the memory care for 10 months. For about 4-5 months things were ok, but it got worse. He fell COUNTLESS times at this facility. He suffered a stroke right in front my mom and the staff insisted he wasn't having one. (Sure enough in the ER They proved he did!) The staff left him to isolate in his room constantly. Also there were many personal items that were brought with my father into this facility that have gone missing!! They do little to nothing to motivate their residents to do anything (go to activities, take a shower) They left his room absolutely FILTHY at times. They are understaffed, and the directors do NOT do what they say they will do. Even the day before we were going to take him out of the facility, we met with the facility director and explain to him our needs and our grievances. The next day we came to get my dad and nothing was prepared they were instructed to get him to take a shower and they did not have that done and furthermore they were instructed to have his medications ready for his discharge. When we arrived the staff acted like they knew little to nothing about what needed to happen. My family and I are very disappointed in this facility. Please do not allow your loved one with Alzheimer's or dementia move into this facility. They have a lot of room for improvement read more

If I could put a zero here I would. There's not enough workers or nurses. My grandma was put in there because she broke her back. You hear ladies asking for help and no one's around to help the ladies. One of the nurses was yelling at one of the seniors. I have been here only a short time going on just under two weeks. I was told that I need to find another location for my husband due to he is in Custodial Care along with Long Term and they really do not serve tube feeding residents. So I am seeking another facility at this time who accepts our Scripps group through Anthem Blue Cross Medicare Supplement plan as our primary. But I must say the admission person by the name of Sherill Williams is a fabulous person her dedication in her job and is so kind and make you feel very welcome along with very helpful and if I may add a warm and charismatic individual. Who seems a very cherrie person all the time . Another person I would like to compliment is Yolanda Gonzales who works in the business office is also a delight and dedicated individual. She has been helping in locating another facility for my husband and was so went out of her way to help me get my temporary health card for Anthem Blue Cross since I have not received it as if yet. I was very grateful. I love Las Villas along with my husband doctor, Dr. Gavin who is a dedicated and very helpful in my husband needs. Terrible rehab place. Staff so concerned with writing down every detail per patient in their logs, they have no time for the patients themselves. While visiting, I had to consistently go and get someone to help my loved one, after the call light was on by her door for several minutes at a time. read more

My brother was here for just over 3 months: first in the Assisted Living area (3 weeks) and then in Memory Care. Don't be deceived by the looks of this place - it does NOT offer the same quality of service as the initial appearance or what the director says will happen. In Assisted Living it took daily requests for more than a week until the staff started daily house keeping, 2 times at night safety checks or weekly laundry service. Once they had a problem with my brother, they insisted that we hire 24 hr a day caregivers from an "outside" service. They required us to move him to their "memory care" which of course had a higher daily rate. Once again, they failed to perform their contracted services. Daily dressing & personal hygiene assistance was 60% at best. If they checked the bed & found soiled/wet sheets, my brother slept on a mattress pad for 1-2 nights. Initial laundry service meant they piled clean clothes on his unmade bed until we complained so much they finally started putting them away in his dresser & closet. They took his leather recliner for "sanitation" and it took over 2 weeks of daily nagging to get it returned. When my brother started feeling scared or threatened, they called the police & ambulance and illegally told us he could NOT return. We lost the $2000 "Community Fee" required at admission because he stayed over 90 days. They have many kind & caring workers but the management & organization is dreadful. Nothing is their problem! They blamed the resident & his family for every problem that arose. If you contact the Ombudsman with a complaint, they provide even LESS care, not MORE. Management needs a complete change. Be very cautious. Don't believe everything they tell you. read more

Walking into this facility (unannounced) in Escondido, Las Villas del Norte I was greeted immediately by a very pleasant conseguiré/receptionist. Within minutes I was touring this very spacious, clean and beautiful facility. My first serious observation was the amount of staff everywhere I went and their instant desire to stop their business and warmly welcome me and ask me if I had any questions. I noticed Residents were involved in different areas of the facility enjoying various activities. I never saw a resident alone or unattended. (I personally like that!) Upon meeting the Marketing staff I was impressed & surprised by the cost and the value that was being offered. The rooms were spacious and very accommodating. I really look forward to having my dear mother enter into the hands of these competent people that will work with me on a specially tailored care plan for my mom! Thank you! P.S.
