My parents were at Vista Del Lago Memory Care for a year and a half. After dad passed, we moved mom to Felicita's memory care. Both places did a great job with my parents. The caregivers were great at both Vista Del Lago and Felicita!! I think Felicita was a little nicer. The food is better and the facility is nicer. Felicita has both memory care and assisted living. It was nice to be able to take mom from memory care to the assisted living cafeteria and have a meal with family and friends. We even had mom's 90th at Felicita. I hope this helps you decide on the care for your parents. It's not an easy job and both Vista Del Lago and Felicita Vida were great help when we needed assistance. read more

My mom lived out her life at Vista Del Lago. Her last stages of life were filled with ups and downs of the disease. The caregivers and staff was exceptional as we managed uncharted waters of all the medical issues. The staff kept us informed and honored us always by returning our many telephone calls. My mom was very happy there. When she passed, the staff was there witth us and almost as her second family. Good - there were activities that were more engaging then we expected. Those staff members we came in contact with seemed nice. What we were able to see of the facility was clean and no bad smells. Due to COVID we were never allowed to see our family member's room. Bad - not enough staff. Agree with April G review on this issue - no responsiveness to inquiries by phone or email. Very hard to get answers or relay messages to doctors. Personal items disappeared even though in inventory. Medical care not a priority - just maintenance or palliative care. You have to ride them like crazy to get anything to happen but generally they don't answer phones or call back or reply to emails. So nothing ever happens even if you do try hard Overall our experience was that this place has more of a hospice mentality. They are not looking to improve the medical condition or quality of life for residents, just keep them alive for as long as they would be based on the whatever regimen they are on. No desire to change. Example - our family member lost about 40 pounds under their care and they neither notified us nor a doctor. We noticed and asked. Even then they had no interest in taking steps to change anything. Levina, Jeff and Hilda are completely ineffective and uninterested. Be wary of the friendly show they put on. read more

I worked here as a contract employee. I worked closely with Maria the Med tech. Although she was busy with her work load, she was very helpful in taking time in between her own duties to explain and show me where to find things. I had computer issues which she tried to help resolve. All of the "nurses" are outsourced From different companies. You are not paying for your loved ones' care. You are paying the facility, who is outsourcing their care to outside companies. NO ONE is in charge of your loved one's care. NO ONE is tracking their needs. There is no dedicated nurse. There is no one making sure your loved one stays mobile or engaged. They are warehousing our loved ones. There is nobody tracking your loved ones activity levels, hygiene, whether they are moving at all, whether they are engaged in anything at all, etc. ASK. They will confirm this. On the daily, there is nobody checking on their hygiene. there is no one taking them for mobility walks or anything. There is very little being done for them if your severally impaired loved one does not "choose to". Again, ASK. They will confirm this. read more

Staff seemed nice but unfortunately items and personal belongings were lost or stolen. There was very little if any activities for patients just television and coloring. No exercise or engagement with patients. Seemed disorganized and quality of nutrition lacking in food served. Very unfortunate. read more

Sadness, anger, resentment... just a few things I feel about this facility. Please note that if you plan to leave your loved one here, especially using the "low income" option. Just know you will need to be as involved as possible. You need to ensure doctors visits, psychiatrist visits, emergency care visits are all happening, they do not let you know about these things. In 2020 my mother was moved into a room and told nothing. She called me to let me know. I called the facility only to be told, we are sorry we didn't notify you that your Mother tested positive for covid, we got really busy. Uh, what? Then fast forward to 2021 where the rules were lifted and I went to pick up my mother for the 1st time in about 1 year to come home to spend time with her family. She was so skinny and frail and could barely walk. I brought her home. She vomited multiple times and I took her to the ER. Her blood levels were off the charts for an infection, she was sepsis. She had a UTI that went untreated for months. I'm not sure how they didn't know this. Her weight went from 140s to 114 in a matter of months based on their own records!!! She fell multiple times, more than I can count. I asked multiple times to have them ordered her a wheelchair (they never did). She has Medi Medi it would have been covered, but they never did. They just continued to let her fall over and over again. They never had regular bathing schedules, they never gave her the chopped up food she needed as she had no teeth. They never helped her to church or let her watch a church service on TV even. They didn't get her up daily to do anything. My mother called me on Monday afternoon on 5/9 and we chatted as normal. The morning of 5/9 I received a phone call and in the most uncaring tone I hear "we're calling to tell you that ( my mom's name) was unresponsive this morning when we checked on her and has passed away). No I'm sorry to inform you, I'm sorry for your loss. Just right into the police and firemen are here now and if you come now you can meet the coroner Herr before they take her. I got there and was told, yeah no coroner is coming. The officer waived the coroner/autopsy so she won't need that. Something is not right here. I fully suspect foul play, why would they not want her to have a autopsy? It was a sudden death of a 68 yr old who was walking around just fine the night before. What happened between the hours of when we talked at 2:16pm or her last voice-mail at 3:15pm until they found her at 8:30am. No one knew anything. Her CD player was moved way over on the nightstand, her face was still bruised from her recent multiple falls and her shoes (which she never took off) were in her drawer. Not to mention her drawer was FILLED with empty sugar packets galore! How do they allow this? I will be filing many claims and reporting to any and all agencies that are available to me as well as speaking to many lawyers. So folks. If you love your loved one. Take heed and know that you must be diligent with this facility and the care you want for your loved one. Anyone that questions why I didn't move her, she was in on a Medicare type low income (very hard to find) and I didn't want to lose her spot by making waves. I regret that to the fullest now! I should have seen the writing on the walls. Now my Mom is gone too soon and they are coving it up as just another "old" (she was 68) person (room 25 A) dead. Shameful. read more

In December of 2016 my mother's 89 year old husband was having difficulty due to parkinson's disease. My mother is 84 years old and was unable to care for him properly. He had become a fall risk and showing signs of advanced parkinson's. I began to search for housing that would meet their needs. A place of quality care, reasonable pricing, and a location my mother could drive. We looked at independent living, 24 hour care, board & care, and Alzheimer facilities. Feeling that we were in critical need with little assistance we found Vista Del Lago. Nicole Lopez and Stephanie Garcia were absolute angels to the rescue. On short notice they were able to provide a personal tour of the facility. The visit was unannounced. Every staff member were pleased to see us and put extra effort into making us feel comfortable. We were only able to use the facility for just over a month before mother's husband passed. The sincerity and graciousness of the staff will never be forgotten. The entire Vista Del Lago is a memory care facility. This means that residents are not in a lockdown area within a nursing home environment. The only locked doors are the entrance from the lobby and outside doors. Residents are not lined up in the halls to sit in their wheelchairs for the day, as I have seen in other 5 star facilities. The staff gathers residents each day and escorts, or wheels them to activities several times a day. Thank you Val, activities director. They even provided us with an app that listed the available activities of the day. Several times a photograph was posted to show mom's husband in participation. If we had PT physical therapy, ST speech therapy, and OT occupational therapy, mom's husband would not have received the amount of dedicated time and stimulation that he received. Even with some difficult residents I never witnessed any negative interaction with staff. Each and every member was caring and loving to their residents. We had my 93 year old Mother here for about 6 weeks until she passed away. The care givers were very nice and comforting for my Mom. We also felt that there was a much greater number of care givers on duty than we have found at other places. When we were not there we would often get phone updates on Moms condition and appearance. To support a friend in order to find a better memory care home for her husband I was touring Vista Del Lago in Escondido. Since I have experience with assisted living and Hospital care I must say I was very impressed. The place was really clean and the attentiveness of the staff towards their patients was caring and involved and people where treated with respect. The energy in this place was, light, positive and caring. The administrative staff as well as entertainment staff, nursing staff and everyone else I saw was smiling, communicating with patients just so different from what I have seen elsewhere. Although I dont have a loved one at this facility I had to share my experience for all of you that do or are considering it. Today as my husband and I were driving to the supermarket we saw a very elderly woman crossing West Valley Parkway, a very busy street, even though the pedestrian crossing was red !! Luckily no one hit her but it was clear she was confused and disoriented. my husband and i were very concerned and pulled up next to her . I slowly approached her & realized she had dementia & was completely confused & lost. She said she was walking to the ocean but was headed straight into the canyon . We called the police & managed to entertain her until they arrived. In the meanwhile my husband asked another by standard to go ask vista del lago if anyone was missing from their facility. Even though she was far from there, her shawl had their name on it so we thought that it possibly could be where she lived . He came back with an employee that seamed to be in charge. the employee scrambled to say they didn't understand how she got out. I asked the police if they were going to investigate them because it was unacceptable to kmow that this was how they cared for patients & I also told police that I wanted her family notified!!! The worst part of this story is the the elderly woman was never scared of me, my husband or even the police men but she did not want anything to do with the vista del lago employee!!! She said she hated her and would go anywhere but not with her. The police man assured me this would be reported. We left and they took our information in case they needed it for anything. I told them we would glady be witnesses to their negligence. Tonight when i yelped this facility it was no surprise to see that they have such horrible reviews !! Hope all of you that read this will never send anyone you love there and pray that the sweet lady's family reads this & they get her out of there I had to give one star to review but wanted to give them zero stars read more

I am happy to give a five star rating to Vista Del Lago, a memory care community. All of Vista Del Lago staff members treat their residents as they would treat their own family members that they respect, love, and care for. The Vista Del Lago staff, its residents, and its residents family all have a beautiful story. Here is mine. Before choosing Vista Del Lago, a memory care community for my beautiful 82 year old mom and handsome 84 year old dad to live in and be cared for in, I visited 15 facilities ranging from boarding care/residence care to assisted living to memory care. I already had skilled nursing experience with various facilities over the years when my wonderful parents needed to bridge the gap from hospitalizations to return healthier and stronger independently back to their home. Out of the 15 facilities I visited I narrowed it down to two places. I showed up to both places without an appointment and at random times of the day. One of those facilities was Vista Del Lago. The Vista Del Lago staff and residents all impressed me even more on my unannounced visit. The staff welcomed me without hesitation. The Executive Director, Channa Kelly was walking around as she still does and welcomed me back with a comforting and sincere smile. Nicole Lopez, Marketing Director showed me around again with sincere care and willingness to answer all my questions. Stephanie Garcia, the Vista Del Lago "renaissance woman" (jack of all trades and a master of all of them) smile and beautiful personality always greeted me like I was a true friend. During all my visits the residents looked happy, cared for, and were engaged. After these visits, Vista Del Lago felt like a perfect home for my parents who were now in and out of dementia and were both high fall risks with them already falling in their own home on 9/26/16. My parents, now living at Vista Del Lago for 4 weeks now are less of a fall risk, are doing activities they haven't done in years and have never done before like dog therapy, are safe, are together, are being loved are being cared for, and are mentally, physically, and emotionally engaged. I am grateful that every night I can lay my head down at night before I fall asleep knowing my parents are living in Vista Del Lago. Channa (Executive Director who comes with years of skilled nursing experience, knowledge, resources and is a trained therapist as well), Dorien (Director of Nursing and Care Givers who comes with years of skilled nursing experience and knowledge and all his staff), Nicole (Director of Marketing and Stephanie) Val (Director of Activities), Marquis (Director of Maintenance and his staff), Ashley (Housekeeping Supervisor and her staff), and Food Service are all amazing, professional yet personable, approachable, and caring. They feel like friends and family. They are all supportive with each other, to the residents, and to me. The staff makes me feel like I'm part of their team, which I welcome and appreciate. Also, the staff is open and willing to hear any positive and/or constructive feedback. If there is room for improvement they are eager to make it happen. I've also been impressed to see the owners of Vista Del Lago visiting and engaging with the residents, the visitors, and the staff. These humble owners recently shared their own very personal stories regarding why they decided to open Vista Del Lago and other similar facilities. They too had a beautiful demented mother, a fragile and sick handsome father, and a sweet grandmother. Their stories were heartfelt and their emotions were real - I could relate. I highly recommend Vista Del Lago for your elderly loved ones needing to live in a memory care community. The facility is clean and has a welcoming "feels like home" presence and vibes. The staff is stellar and they go above and beyond for their residents and their residents' family. Each time I visit my parents all staff members look happy to be there. That is beautiful and comforting to me. Vista Del Lago will soon offer a support group for care givers and family members - I can't wait for that! As my mother aged and her condition changed the Executive Director and staff made a number of accommodations for her always with respect for her dignity and privacy. During the last month of her life the nursing and care staff gave mom tender and loving care making sure both she and I were comfortable. I am so amazed with how much Vista Del Lago takes care of my mom. My mom was in a bad situation which caused a decrease in her level of life quickly and Vista Del Lago came to the rescue. A therapist came to visit my mom in her home and noticed that she was not being taken care of and that she could not take care of herself. They expedited a doctor to visit her in her home and he saw the situation that was at hand and saw she needed care. When she became a resident of Vista Del Lago, she was put on a good diet, her pills were monitored well, and activities were used to help promote her wellbeing while she was in serious need of care. As I visit Vista Del Lago, I have found that the nursing are well attentive to mom's needs. When she is not doing well, they find the answer quickly and take steps immediately to help her be herself. The administration staff is all attentive to mom's needs and care, the activities staff are also focused on her wellbeing. There have been some changes from the beginning of moms care to now and incorporated teams named, Guardian Angel and Otter Crew. I love that they assign someone in charge in each area for mom's wellbeing. I email staff and receive emails. It doesn't stop there. I text and call for ANYTHING and there is a response. And much to my surprise, I receive texts and phone calls when I don't even check in. They are there for every aspect of moms needs and I so appreciate what Vista Del Lago has done to transform my mom back to who she is and make sure she is happy. There is also a protection aspect that is phenomenal for the care of mom. Who does that? Vista Del Lago does! I have to give this review because my grandmother has been mistreated and neglected at this place. My grandmother has been left in a room for hours without food or being aloud to use the restroom. She has also been refused showers for weeks at a time and as a result she got a yeast infection. When my family and I tried to confront them about what they've done they didn't appalogize but instead were very defensive and suggested to pay more money for better care! I completely don't recommend this place for anyone's mother or father or grandparents if you want them to live past a month since they've been open less than 2 years and have had more than 5 people die in that time. read more

A handful of caregivers are exceptional at this facility but the overall management and care of my mother has been less than acceptable. From no showers to UTIs to not being fed because she "didn't want to eat". My mother sometimes wants to eat in her room but instead of bringing food to her they let her go hungry. Out of all the facilities I've visited over time, this one has someone falling weekly due to lack of care and lack of procedure. After a terrible fall that happened under there watch they have not been pain managing per doctors orders. I'm very disappointed, I have a full time job and have been taking a lot of hours to help them understand what I need from them but this is becoming my full time job even though they get a lot of money to do it by themselfs. I hope this review will help them realize they need to pay more attention to their residents and the details before they continue filling up the facility. read more

Do not move your family here. Incompetent workers who don't know how to speak English and can't understand simple things such as periodic doses of medication so your loving family member doesn't feel pain from their broken back. (It is actually this facilities fault that my family member was hurt.) The care givers aren't given clear direction or even have degrees in the field, the emphasis is not to take care of your family it is to take as much money as possible from you. Your family member is only aloud two showers a week (which seems barbaric) and if you ask for more they charge you an obscene amount. My family member wasn't even getting two a week, on more than one occasion she had gone for more than a week without a shower. They also don't know where she is half the time or what she's doing, I took her out for over 8 hours and brought her back and they had no idea she had even left. She sometimes has accidents and they let her sit in it for days, they never shower her after an accident, they don't even wipe her down which caused another health issue, a UTI about four months in a row. They don't seem to have a standard check off list for when it's bed time such as going to the bathroom or brushing teeth, I don't know when the last time it was that my family member brushed her teeth. The new head of this place, Chana does not care about the patients at this facility in the least she just wants to take your money and ignore any problems. When you talk to her about problems she gets defensive and doesn't do anything about it, which is unbelievably unprofessional. They have made a call trying to raise the rate on my family member saying we are "below market value". Looking at all that's happens do we seem below market value to you? They are trying to expand to fast and can't handle the patients that they have. If you want to pay a lot of money every month with lots of up charges and then do all the work your self this facility is for you. A few care givers are an exception to this review. read more

I work in the long term care industry and have been to visit Vista Del Lago on several occasions. I can always feel confident referring residents in need of memory care services because of the professional and highly trained staff that manage dementia- related behaviors so as to increase the quality of life for their residents. Executive director is a trained nursing home administrator as well as therapist...these skills and her ability to train and lead teams combined with a beautifully maintained facility, gourmet meals (I try to visit at lunch time on purpose!), make it a standout RCFE. With a lot of elderly family, I've spent quite a bit of time in assisted living facilities over the past five years. Vista Del Lago is one of the best. It is just the perfect size: small enough to give individualized attention to their residents, and big enough to be able to to provide a full range of activities and care. The staff and nurses are wonderful people. They treat the residents with dignity and care for them like they are family, maybe even better. We feel fortunate that they had a room for my very fragile father-in-law and highly recommend this facility. read more

If your looking for a facility for your loved one, keep on looking because this place was a nightmare for my wife. I took her out within 30 days and she is back home with me now and doing fine. Patients are allowed to run the halls and often wander into other peoples rooms which resulted in my wife getting bitten and bruised! That's right. She had human bite marks surrounded by horrible bruising. This happened a few times. They also had my wife so over-medicated she couldn't pick her head up to even look at us when we came to visit. That is their way of taking care of your loved one, by over medicating them. We never got back all of her belongings even though we had her name on everything. We tried some of their food and it is absolutely terrible. I turned them in to community care licensing and investigation is still pending. I've never written a review before but I thought by doing so, it might prevent your loved one from the horrible experience we had. Vista del lago memory care was our true "American horror story." My mom is 84 and has Alzheimer's, she has been living with us for about four years now, and I really needed break. I have never left my mom anywhere, so this was a big decision. After doing a lot of research on the internet. I read about Vista Del Lago Memory Care in Escondido, opening up November 2015 and how they offered full time live in care and respite stay. My husband and I drove over, Robbi was wonderful, she gave us a tour and answered all of our questions and really took the time to find out about my mom and our family. It was also a beautiful place that felt like a home, not a typical care facility. But more important to me, everyone that we met, from the nurses, activity director, the maintenance, even the chef, were kind, helpful and really caring. I could tell that everyone we met truly cared about the people that were their and making sure we were comfortable with my mom staying. Along with having nurses, I liked that they encourage the family members that are staying to be out of their room as much as possible. Everyone can eat in the dining room or outside in the sunshine if you want and they had activities through out the day. I knew my mom would also like the beautiful outdoor area where she could sit in the sunshine if she wanted to, and It was all secure so I wouldn't have to worry about her wandering off. Another reason we chose Vista Del Lago was that they encourage the residence and everyone that works there to be part of a community, a family and that they took the time to get to know as much about my mom as they could, even though she was only staying for a short time. I think so many people working in care facilities tend to forget that, maybe they don't have a memory, and are old and confused....but they still are a person and deserve to be treated as anyone would want to be. That includes taking the time to warm the bathroom before a shower, good food, and people around you that care and take the time to listen. This is what we found at Vista Del Lago Memory Care, and why we chose it for my mom. I can't say enough great things about her stay and everyone that works here. read more

My husband, a late-stage Alzheimer's patient, had been a resident for almost two months in Vista del Lago before he passed away at the end of January. From the very moment I set foot in this facility I had a favorable impression: it looked very clean, the staff appeared very friendly and, above all, the residents were addressed with courtesy and a warm embrace or touch when they were met by staff members. My instincts appeared to be right. My husband received excellent care and, although he was a challenge at times, nobody was ever discourteous. He received respect and loving care instead. I left him every day reassured in the knowledge that he would be watched around the clock and attended to by people that seemed to have a caring and nurturing nature. And they included me in their assessments of his condition and kept me fully informed about any change, big or small, that warranted a possible call to the doctor or hospice RN.
