I mentioned about the KRTH radio discount promo by Gary Bryan ($1500 discount). The office manager laughed at my face, and said if I want to use the radio discount offer, the price will $7980 - $1500. Pretty seamless process start to finish. I had my initial consult in October 2020 (I needed to apply to FSA money through my job around that time), I was told immediately that I was a good candidate for LASIK. But they let me wait to schedule surgery for January 2021 so I could use my FSA and I got the first surgery appointment for the year in the Cerritos with Dr Shammas. Day of surgery ran like a machine, I was one of many patients in the office along with Dr Shammas and multiple assistants (including an Optometrist who re-examined me to make sure I was still good candidate and on the day of they advise if you are also a candidate for Contoura the custom corneal procedure - I was already prepared to pay for it; as well as medical assistants guiding you through the whole process). Everyone very nice and helpful! Follow-up next day and 6 weeks later and I'm cleared to go, call if I need anything, 20/20 vision! Thoughts: 1. Do your research and be prepared for the cost, this is not something you do on a whim. But the cost is comparable to other businesses and I had confidence because of how many procedures they have done and honest about the statistics of the surgery. Ask questions! 2. The procedure itself is weird, not painful but the machine puts pressure on your eyes which is not a normal sensation. 3. You can't open your eyes for the rest of the day - make sure your driver is prepared to stick with you all day and help with the drops afterward because it's like every hour. 4. Post-op Follow-up is the next morning, so take 2 days off work! COVID notes: masks on the whole time, hand sanitizer etc, very good with the guidelines, I would say the only odd thing was that my driver on day of surgery was not allowed to stay at the office... but it's COVID so this rule will likely go away eventually. read more

Quick, professional and attentive, with a splash of humor. Overall a great experience in terms of client care, answering questions, and not screwing up my eyes. I got custom waveform lasik (nearsightedness/astigmatism) and although I'm not 100% healed yet, I had no complications or infection and can see great. You're back to business pretty much the next day, and just have to be careful and follow instructions as it heals for two weeks. I can't compare their service to other eye centers out there since I haven't experienced any others, but I can recommend the Cerritos location because they did a great job for me, and the staff was friendly and informative. While there was some initial discomfort the day of the surgery, it was tolerable and totally worth it. I didn't even need to use the pain pills they gave me. read more

I had an eye consultation today. I was nervous considering covid. It was in a really nice building. There was a lot of free parking in the back. It was in a non-descript room down a winding hallway. The office was clean and decorated for the holidays. Everyone wore masks. There was only one other person waiting in the reception area with me. I filled out paperwork. After about 20 minutes I was called back to the exam area. The tests were awkward to say the least. If you tell me not to blink all I want to do now is blink! But, they were fine and what I expected. The exam provider Bianca, I think was very nice. I think had another person give me a traditional eye exam. He really explained the procedure and more importantly my options and advantages and disadvantages. To be honest, he kind of talked me out of the procedure I had totally planned on getting. Which is refreshing and quite rare. He in no way told me not to do it. I just weighed what he said and decided I would just wear glasses to drive. I was not pressured or rushed in any way. The complete opposite of the negative reviews I had read. If I decide to eventually go through with the procedure at a later date I feel really safe and comfortable having it done here. They would not give me pricing over the phone even after I explained I'd had a consult and had my eye measurements and prescription and had been cleared for Lasik. I had already done my homework and spent two hours at another facility, in the very far away Westwood (never go there........so far!!) so my logic was to not waste their time and tell them that i already knew I was a candidate, and was ready to do the procedure if they could beat or match the all laser Lasik cost of $3,500 I'd gotten elsewhere. I was given some b.s. line saying that it depended on my prescription.......I told them my prescription info, because i had it from the consult the day before....they still would not give me the price. They told be it would be from $1700-2400 per eye depending on prescription. Which by the way is not true, the Laser machine they use for the Lasik procedure comes with different cartridges depending on your prescription and if the facility you use has enough volume of clients they will have all cartridges and thus not upcharge for using a different one. The Westwood facility said they did not upcharge for a range in prescription or a stigmatist---they have all the cartridges!!! How dare they try and swindle me or take advantage of ignorance. Why would they prefer that I sit through 2 hours worth of testing and waste their business' time, when all I need was the figure? It's a disservice to their staff and mine. Would not recommend them they were not friendly, honest, or business savvy. I would have rather used them and not drive back to Westwood! read more

Once I made up my mind about lasik- I did tons of research to find the best place to take care of my one set of eyes and I'm SO happy I decided to go with the Laser Eye Center. I went in for a consult on a Friday found out then and there after a series of tests that I was a good candidate for Lasik. I wanted my surgery ASAP so I scheduled my surgery for the following Thursday. FYI- you need to make sure you dont wear contacts for atleast a week prior to the consult and surgery. I did my consult in DTLA but I had my actual surgery at this office so I could get my surgery done ASAP. The surgeons (Dr Woo and Dr Shammas travel from office to office to conduct surgeries). One thing I really appreciated was how nice and thorough the staff was to me. They explained everything in detail prior to the surgery but even throughout the less than 10 minute surgery, the whole team of people in the room called out the next steps to put me at ease. I was a little more nervous day of the surgery than I thought I would be and the fact that the whole team was so kind and understanding and explaining everything in such detail really put me more at ease. In addition to kind surgeons, you also want to make sure you have a kind staff as well when you go in for a procedure like this. I probably interacted with 15+ people in both locations and every single staff member was great. Dr Woo and Dr Shammas are the two best doctors to trust with your vision. Everything from the initial exams, to the surgery, to the followup visits has been conducted with efficiency and kindness. It's been two full weeks since my surgery and I've had a really quick recovery time! I also wanted to mention I have a VERY high prescription (-7.5 in both eyes) and I've been wearing glasses since 3rd grade so this has been a life changing procedure for me and I'm so happy I got it done with this team. read more

I had been considering Lasik for a while and finally decided to get a free consultation with Laser Eye Center. While it took some time (they were busy) the consult went great and they even have me loner glasses for a week (I only wore contacts) before doing the surgery. Fast forward to surgery day. Again it was a process and the procedure only took a few minutes but it was all time well spent. It's now been a week since I had the surgery and my sight is amazing. I would not refer this ophthalmology to anyone. They appear to be reactive instead of proactive. I went in because I have diabetic eye. I was referred from two optometrist who looked at my eye X-ray and Saw a lot of damage from my diabetes. I told the Dr and all he did was the basic eye exam and said I was fine- come back in a year. He didn't even X-ray my eyeball which is recommended for diabetic patients. Now I have to find another ophthalmologist for better service and pay another copay. This office appears to not be into preventive services- I guess I have to wait until I'm blind to qualify for surgery and then get good service. Warning: if you went there and they said you were fine- and didn't do an eye X-ray- get 2nd advice before you go blind. read more

I went here since I hear their advertisements on the radio all the time. Walked in filled out a bunch of forms. One of the questionnaires ask if I'm nursing, which I was at the time. I mark YES. I get called in. I feel like I'm part of an assembly line, I move from one station to another. I'm starting not to feel comfortable at this point because I feel like I'm just a number. I finally get to the optometrist. She puts some numbing drops in my eye. We start talking about her kids and I told her I just had a baby. I told her the hardest thing is nursing while working. She ask "you are nursing , you didn't mark it in the forms ? " I said " Yes I did, I marked YES". She looks through my file and sees that I mark yes and says "I'm so sorry we must have missed it. " She goes on telling me that I can't nurse for a week because of the drops she just put into my eyes can be harmful to my baby. She advises me to pump for a week and discard my milk. I'm beyond devastated. If you a nursing mother, you know that breast milk is like liquid gold and for me to throw it out , I wanted to cry. Because of their mistake , my baby had to suffer. It seem like they didn't even look through my file before starting that consultation. They wanted to get in as many people through as they could to make more money. If they missed a simple question on my file, I can't image the mistakes they would have made on my eyes. It's your eyes, it's something you don't want to chance. Wish I never came here. read more

DO NOT COME HERE! I went despite the Yelp reviews because I thought they deserved a chance to prove me different. First impression: When I entered the waiting room, I was able to see patients that where waiting there right after a surgery which to me seems odd because at other places those patients wait in the back away from the general public. The layout of the waiting room itself is outdated and gives you a 90's feel which to me let me know they care very little about their presentation. The staff: The staff during my sign in was very nice. Once I went into the exam room I noticed that plenty of their chairs and equipment were old, had tears and seem to be falling apart. Also, the optometrist on site was in a tremendous RUSH when he asked me to tell him the difference between the view of lets say lens 1 or 2 he rushed through it and I could not even tell the difference so he'd then say "about the same right?" at this point I knew there was NO WAY I was having my surgery done here so I replied "sure." I asked very simple questions regarding 1. What might increase my possibility of needing a touch up? To which they kept saying 2-3% need it but they didn't know why. 2. Should I wait until after school when I am not reading so much to have this surgery done? Again they had no answer. Finally the Office Manager thought that she could convince me by having the surgeon talk to me but he was by far the worst thing she could have done. It was evident that he did not want to talk to me, he was condescending and rude. He pretty much answered my 2 questions by saying just make sure not to wear contacts before your surgery. Really? In conclusion, this place is only worried about making money they say that their price is about 5 thousand and they give you a "special" 1 thousand off minus an additional 10% for a total of about $3,500 - $3,800 which is significantly less than other places. However, if you are looking for a professional place that cares about your health and not just your business look elsewhere. read more

I would give 4 stars for the staff service, the optometrist and the assistants were very friendly (if overly busy on the surgery days). However, Dr. Shammas suffered from an overabundance of what, if I'm being generous, I'll call confidence. I'd otherwise call it cold aloofness. I didn't feel like I even needed to be there. I can appreciate the assurance of a calm confident doctor, but I dont feel like he realized that, while he might have done this hundreds of thousands of times, this was my first. Also, after they had cut my corneas, they put me in some dark, cold room to sit with nothing but my thoughts for what I was told was 15 minutes. I didnt even have the bad pop music in the operation room, I could focus on how much I didnt like it, or at least keep track of time. With my eyes shut I have no idea how long I sat there freezing, with my eyes stinging as the anesthetic wore off, reinforcing the terrifying thought that I'd never see again because of vanity or something. I've talked to other people when did the procedure other places, they didnt even change tables, they went straight from the cutting laser to the burning laser without moving. Otherwise the surgery seems to have been a success, so I'd give two stars overall. read more
