I am really confused by all the positive reviews for Chou Chou. I relied on the reviews of the Yelp community, which brought me to Chou Chou, but I left with lashes I did not want. It was my first time ever getting eyelash extensions, so I was really looking forward to getting them done. Getting an appointment with her, as well as meeting her in person was very pleasant. She has a little room in her home where she does all appointments. Oh, she also has four little pups that are in the room, too. So if you're allergic to dogs/don't like dogs, FYI. I told Chou Chou that I wanted something natural. I'm Asian so I can't have lashes that scream I HAVE EYELASH EXTENSIONS! She spent about an hour and a half on my lashes. Trusting her to do her thing, I just laid there until the whole process was over. When she handed me the mirror, I was shocked. Of course I internalized my reaction, but I was NOT expecting what I saw. It was the opposite of natural, and the way she applied the glue made it look like I had eyeliner on. I told her they looked really dramatic, but maybe I reacted so strongly because 1) I had never had extensions before and 2) I just needed to adjust to them. I paid $75 as a first time client with a $20 discount. As I got home and stared in the mirror, I knew it wasn't what I wanted. I was desperate to get them off, so I tried using any type of oil to get them off my lids. Of course none of that stuff works. Thank you yelpers, you did me well! Please be aware these are cluster lashes, not individual lashes. I found Lashes by Chou Chou via Yelp. I was headed out of town for an outdoor festival, and knew the temperature would be too hot to wear make-up, lest I end up walking the streets of Philly with concealer and eyeliner melting down my face. I decided eyelashes would add a needed umph. I left my appointment with Chou Chou looking fabulous (can I say that without getting side-eyed?). Chou Chou did a wonderful job and picked a length and fullness that looks very natural (no butterfly wings as lashes over here!). I've now had the lashes on for two weeks, and they still look really good. Chou Chou is very pleasant, personable, and professional. THE BEST. Being really really ridiculously good-looking is not easy, but Chou Chou makes it happen. This is my dirty little secret. No, my lashes are not naturally this luscious and full and glam. Well, they are now, but that's all thanks to the lash-Goddess Chou Chou. She is the friendliest, most beautiful woman inside and out and half of the pleasure of coming to her is simply her company. Her pups are adorable and so sweet and full of personality. When Charlie sticks her head under my legs (sounds weird, but you'll get it once you go), it always makes me laugh. I have gotten SO many compliments. I can't even exaggerate about this. And...every time I see someone on the west side with long luscious lashes and ask them where they got it done- yep, you've guessed it: Chou Chou. Parking is e-z peezee. I come from the opposite side of that ticket-nazi entrance, so I've been fine and dandy turning onto her street. CASH AND CHECKS ONLY. However, she is such a trusting woman that the first time I came and noobily only had my credit card (doh!), she let me come back and drop off a check for her. D'aww. FYI, Chou Chou says she can sell you Latisse for $45 but it is the generic version of the product. It is called Careprost, you can find on-line as low as $10 - $22 (add shipping). I really enjoyed my first set of lashes with her, but was disappointed that she was not completely honest about what she was selling. read more

I called Chou Chou at one pm and she gave me an apt at two! great! I showed up a little early because she was two blocks away! even better :) and she took me to her little boutique studio room. I felt really comfortable at her place, after she was done with the lashes application, which I only had them filled, she asked me to look at them and tell her if I need something else done, I asked her to put extra lashes at the ends and she happily did, I did not leave until she was sure I"m happy and satisfied with my lashes, they look awesome and they are soo durable, it's better than what I had done in Chicago. Get the ones with three or four lashes on each lash.. She's very good I"m going there every two to three weeks now on. Fast service, great prices and kind warm treatment. I love Chou Chou! read more

I decided to try this place out based on yelp reviews! I had never had my eyelashes done before, so this newbie was very nervous!! She is such a welcoming person when you first meet her and all her little doggies are just adorable!! After the entire process, I looked at the completed work and I was soooo ecstatic with the results! I decided to wait a couple of weeks before leaving my review to comment on the durability of these luscious lashes but I am happy to report they still look GORGEOUS!! I had Chou Chou do my lashes about 6 weeks ago, I had never had extensions before and I am amazed how well they have held up, most people I know go back for refills every 3-4 weeks, so for mine to last this long is amazing. I found Chou Chou a little less than a year ago, and I'm so happy I did! I've been going to her consistently ever since and I couldn't be happier with my eyelashes. For starters, she's such a wonderful woman, always so warm and welcoming. We chat about everything from boys to movies to restaurants, all while she applies any new lashes I may need. She does all of her appointments from a garden studio in her backyard (which is incredibly beautiful) and her little dogs always greet me at the gate wagging their tails. As far as the lashes go, they're amazing. I get so many compliments on them (SO many!), they are easy to take care of, and I never have to wear eye makeup (which is why I looked into getting eyelash extensions in the first place). I even go surfing in them and they stay put (whew!). So what are you waiting for? Give her a call! After a rather unpleasant first lash extension experience 2 weeks ago from a Tippr deal, I had to have my lashes filled and did not want to go back to the original place. I found Chou Chou (pronounced Shoe Shoe) on Yelp and gave her a try. WOW She is so professional yet warm at the same time. She gave my lashes new life AND it was reasonably priced. Just love her for many reasons. Yesterday was my first visit w/ Chou Chou. She is very trustworthy, for one. I don't carry cash & she only accepts cash or check. She was totally fine with me sending a check through the mail. I felt really bad & called her the next day to assure her her check had gone out in that day's mail. She was very cool about the whole thing, stating she was not worried at all about it & not to worry. I also expressed that I felt my lashes were "too natural", which by the way, I told her I wanted a "natural" look. She got me right in w/in 2 hours & added quite a few longer ones & voila! I had the look I wanted. And she did not charge me for the extra lashes. Customer service, old school! You won't find that at most places. I have my lashes done by Chou Chou for a very long time now and they always good great! They are not plastic! They look and feel very natural. I like mine short and full but she does all styles. FEAR NOT!!! This establishment is legit and the woman, Chou Chou, who runs this amazing show is too!!! I had my appointment on Tuesday and from the start, Chou Chou is beautiful inside as she is outside! She radiates such wonderful energy and she does this work with utmost integrity. It is a collaborative effort-her knowledge paired with your esthetic desire-so communicate!!! Fast forward, when Chou Chou was done with my lashes, she told me to "sit" with them for the day and if after I wanted some changes, I could contact her to "fix" anything as long as it was within 10 days. Well, I got to my car and I had a few concerns, but I thought maybe it was because I'm new to having lashes this long and I just needed time to adjust so I went to get some lunch, got a coffee, and then headed to the beach. It was at this point that I had looked enough times in the mirror to confirm that I wanted some adjustments made and so I called Chou Chou. She was with a client but asked me to come in after. I showed up and she was just as sweet as ever! She told me she was glad I had called her and she listened to what I thought might be a good idea for my eyes, she told me her reservations for it and then we both decided to try and see if it would work! Collaboration!!! Ladies-if you want to try lashes, you really should try Chou Chou. She is patient, honest, kind, and has been doing lashes for 40 years. Her prices are much more reasonable than any other place ($95 for full lashes -$20 first time customer discount, $45 fill-$20 first time customer discount). Both times I went to her work studio, there were women coming in to have their lashes done. Make appointments in advanced because she does book up quickly! Also, a no-show is a no-no! If you miss an appointment without cancelling with 24 hours, expect to pay for the time you wasted! I think this is very fair and everyone is held accountable for their actions! If your looking for a clean, safe and wonderful place to get your lashes done look no further! I've been going to Chou Chou for over 5 years and I can't imagine life without Chou Chou and my lashes. I've been to other places in a pinch and there is nothing like Chou Chou and her technique! I am always getting compliments from people saying that they love my lashes and ask me what mascara I use and they are so surprised when I tell them that they are extensions! I rarely post reviews on yelp but I feel like I gotta say something. I second Lindsey K. I don't get the hype besides that Chou Chou definitely knows good customer service and the price was super affordable comparing to other salons on the west side. However, the lashes she used were plastic ones like those you can find at Sephora. Google images for "individual fake eyelashes" and you'll know what I'm talking about. I don't think those are meant to be glued on your natural eyelashes for more than a day. It may work really well for some of people BUT my natural Asian lashes simply couldn't hold the weight of those plastic fake eyelashes. AND she used way too much glue that my eyelids were actually glued shut at some point when she was applying them. She apologized and tried to clean the glue off with some solution that really irritated my eye. My natural lashes were damaged and I couldn't get lash extensions for almost a year now. I had my eyelashes done in Texas, but moved to LA 2 weeks later and needed a technician who can do it right and not charge an arm and a leg. I found Chou Chou here on Yelp and read the rave reviews and I thought I'd try her out esp since there was a $20 off for first-time clients. I ended paying $30 + tips for the refill. To my luck, I had to reschedule the first time and then came in late a second time. I thought Chou Chou would really be awful since I already made a bad impression, but I called her the second time to let her know I was coming in late (it rained, and I was driving in from Redlands!). She was more than sweet and said she would just call the second appointment to tell them to come later. The other reviews are right that her studio is in a serene backyard and her little dogs welcome you at the gate. I got a chance to just relax in her chair while she worked on my eyelashes (with my eyes open!). We chatted for a bit and the next thing you know I was done! She even told me I could wear it out in the rain and it wouldn't be ruined. I'm not sure if my last technician in Texas didn't do a good job or not because my eyes were always irritated. With Chou Chou, I felt it to be so natural--and it looked natural! It has already been two weeks and most of the lashes are still intact. What I found her to be so refreshing was she even let me call my fiance who was waiting at the coffee shop to come join us in the studio because there is a nice comfy couch in her studio! Too bad the little dogs smelled some testosterone and barked at him!! Though Chou Chou was a delight!! The fiance still raves about her! I was looking for a new technician for my eyelash extensions, although I like the girl that I had she was always severely over booked and scheduling was difficult. I found Chou Chou here on yelp and went to her for my lash fill, almost 4 weeks since I had initially gotten my full set...LOVE HER! I spoke to her on Wed and she had me select a time for Thursday, although I suspect I could have squeezed in same day had I needed to. Chou Chou is warm and friendly Her backyard studio is cozy and comfortable, overlooking her lovely garden/backyard. She has a small pack of friendly and animated pooches who greet you at the garden gate...really cute! Once I arrived she got right to work on my lashes and filled them in where they had become sparse. She worked quickly, but precisely and we had a nice talk as she worked. When she was done she had me check to see if I was pleased...we both noticed that there was a spot that could use some more lashes and she spent another few minutes filling that in. My lashes are beautiful, the whole thing to about 30-40 mins, and the cost for the fill was only $45...the lowest I have found after researching several places. She takes checks and cash, no cards. Her location is Culver City adjacent and right near the 10, so very convenient...street parking seemed very open, although I walked to my appointment. Such an amazing experience!!! She made me feel so welcome from the moment I walked in, just an incredible woman all around! I've never done lash extensions before and wanted to get them done before I went to vegas for my birthday. I called on Monday and she booked me Tuesday. Parking was a breeze and I was greeted my her adorable doggies, walked into her studio and it was such a pleasant and comfortable experience. I was a little nervous to start and she calmed my nerves with some really cute and funny jokes as she began to work. We talked during the duration of the job and time flew by! I was super happy with the lashes they look so natural and beautiful, but by the next morning I wished I had got them a smudge longer on the outer parts of my eyes, I emailed her and got a phone call back extremely quickly and she booked me for the next day and said she would add some length! I'd been getting my lashes done elsewhere with great results, but was getting tired of paying so much. So I found Chou Chou, who's prices are just over 1/2 of what I was paying before. She does a perfect job every time, and they actually last longer than where I was getting them done before. I couldn't be happier! I LOVE getting my lashes done by Chou Chou! So much that I never have them off unless she is doing a new set. She's really a wise woman who is knowledgable on a vast array of different subjects. I always have the best convos with her while she applies my lashes. She uses the cluster lash method and quite possibly the best glue iv ever had used before. Your lashes last anywhere between 3-5 weeks mine always last 4 but could go longer. Its all about how you take care of them. One of my favorite things about them is that they are water proof. You can get water on them and they don't fall off, intact they look better and more fresh after you wet them. I have never had cluster lash extensions that last this long, look this good, and at the great price. I always make sure I tip her minimum $20 because her services are worth way more then her low price. After reading the rave reviews on yelp and seeing the amazing price, it seemed like a no-brainer to go to Chou Chou. This was my first time getting eyelash extensions so I had no idea what to expect. Chou Chou was great...very friendly, easy to talk to. I was in and out in an hour fifteen, and the result was amazing. I was leaving on a trip for almost a month and that was my initial reason for getting them. What I didn't realize was that the type of false lashes she used would cause havoc on my own lashes. She used these lashes that had like 4-5 lashes per clump. While this allowed for an incredibly full look, when these clumps started falling out, 1) it would pull out multiple natural lashes, and 2) it would leave these holes in my lashes. I thought that was normal, but then realized that I should have gone for the more expensive individual lashes that fall out one at a time. The lashes lasted me about 4 weeks, and after that I had to start wearing mascara. I just got them redone, using single lash extensions, and so far they feel so much more natural, and I know that clumps at a time will not be falling out! read more
