I was excited to see them frying the Eastern North Carolina classic Brightleaf hot dog to us as a base for their dog. The fries were also made fresh, fried right in front of me. The ladies that work in the restaurant are really kind and very helpful. When I got to the car and realized there was no chili on my hotdog, I took them back in and they gladly remade them for me. The fries were top-notch--hot, crispy and perfectly seasoned. They were addicting and delicious! This was the first time in a long time that I drank Pepsi in the glass bottle. It was as good as I remembered, if not better. It was a perfect complement to the fries. Unfortunately, the hot dogs were not what I expected. The hot dog was cooked well and mustard was quality and out on the dogs in just the right amount. The big disappointment was the chili, this is the second restaurant in Greenville I've been to where the chili has no detectable meat and is more like a watery bean puree. Though it is flavorful, it didn't make the hot dog complete and leaves much to be desired in the realm of texture and flavor. I don't know if this is a regional-style of chili, but it is not a traditional chili. While many seem to enjoy it, I don't think it's for me. Hence, I won't be returning for the dogs and admit its a bit too far out of my way for an order of fries and a Pepsi.

Really good dogs with a local history. Definitely worth a try. Make sure to get the unique chili.read more

I love their food. Had a bit of everything here from their tacos, specials, enchiladas, fajitas,…read moreand more and I'm never disappointed. This is authentic Mexican food. Spanish is spoken here and when I walk out I know a little bit more Spanish than I did coming in. The servers are super friendly and love their decor inside. Menus are under the glass which is on the table so it's easy to order. Their beans are the best in town hands down and yes that rhymes. You will see me here a lot and until next time.....

We'd heard that there was one place in town where we could get them, which came highly recommended by a friend who'd been here. The caveat was that the birria tacos are only served on Fridays. So we planned to do birria tacos on Friday. We came here and got 4 orders of birria tacos. I added an agua de Jamaica to my order. While we waited, I perused the adjacent grocery store and purchased some Mexican Coca-Colas, conchas, and a box of mango Pulparindo. Soon enough, our order was ready. We took our goodies back to my place, turned on a good movie, and partook in our feast. These tacos are full of flavor. The meat is tender, and the cheese was perfectly melted inside the consome-soaked tortillas. The meal is served with pickled onion and habanero pepper, fresh cilantro and onions, limes, and a house-made hot sauce. Of course, in true birria fashion, there is a cup of hot consome in which to dunk the tacos. The freshness of the condiments perfectly compliments the fatty richness of the tacos. Jamaica is my favorite agua fresca and always reminds me of my favorite Caribbean drink, Sorrel, as they are both made from the hibiscus flower. Though Mexican Agua de Jamaica has a different flavor profile than Sorrel, it always fills me with a sense of comfort and nostalgia. Their Jamaica is delicious and comes in a huge cup, so you always get enough. Since this first visit, we've made taco Fridays a tradition. I always order the birria tacos and agua de Jamaica. I've also tried lots of their other tacos (asada, chicharron, pastor, lengua, etc.) as an add-on to my birria order, but the birria outshines them all. These tacos are absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend adding them to your Friday takeout tradition. Be sure to peruse the pastry case for a fresh dessert to finish your meal and pick up some other treats along the way.
