Although I never actually met Melanie, she did a wonderful job on my wedding flowers. They were right within the specifications and requests that we discussed and uniquely beautiful! I got so many compliments on the flowers and how the combination of flowers were so pretty. Honestly, I feel like a lot of ppl can arrange flowers or put a bunch of flowers in a vase. So, again, I will just stress that I feel like Melanie definitely has an eye for floral design and I was very happy with how the flowers turned out. The only complaint I would have is that it is a little bit hard to get a hold of Melanie, as I've seen a few other reviewers mention. But, she does a great job and is reliable, so I really can't hold it against her. She seems to get really focused and caught up in whatever wedding is coming up, so I'm guessing she just spends more time actually arranging flowers vs business administrative things. So, bottom line: Last Petal does gorgeous work. You might not get a lot of communication from Melanie, but don't worry, your flowers will turn out great! read more

We hired Last Petal for our wedding in September. Melanie was recommended to us by our coordinator (Jessica from Something To Celebrate.) Melanie is very easy to work with and super creative. We live in Chicago, so I had one in person meeting with her where we talked about everything I liked and didn't like about wedding flowers. She had great ideas that fit with my sensibilities. And yep, she'll work with your budget. We gave her a price, she gave us beautiful flowers to fit. If there was a flower I liked that was too expensive, she had a cheaper alternative. I should also mention that Melanie really came to the rescue with an issue that popped up just days before the wedding. She was so accommodating about the last minute change and had a solution that was beautiful and fitting with everything else we had planned. read more

There were a lot of good things I liked about Melanie and Last Petal. She was friendly and personable, she worked within my budget and was affordable, the centerpieces were absolutely beautiful, the boutonnieres were also really well done. The bridesmaid bouquets were also adequate, though I was not particularly blown away by them. BUT I really, really HATED my bridal bouquet. I wanted something simple and understated. What I got was some sort of overgrown, dated monstrosity that would have been better suited for a 80s or 90s wedding. From certain angles it was actually really gorgeous, but overall it couldn't have been further from what I asked for and envisioned. One year later and I still cringe when I look at the wedding pictures. I am not sure what I could have done to better communicate my vision. I found a bouquet online that I loved and brought multiple pictures of it. I specifically mentioned I hated cascading bouquets, yet the bouquet was borderline cascading. I specifically choose an inspiration bouquet that had flowers that were in my budget so substitutions would not have to be made. I mentioned multiple times that the theme for my wedding was simple and understated, yet what I received could not have been further from that. Comparing pictures of the inspiration bouquet and my actual bouquet side by side is baffling. My first thought is that they must have got my bouquet mixed up with another bride's, yet there were just enough similarities to the inspiration picture that I do not believe that was the case. The bouquet is hands down my deepest wedding regret. In the grand scheme of things I suppose I should consider myself lucky, but my bridal bouquet was one of the most important decorative aspects of the wedding to me, and yes, I did mention that to Last Petal several times. If I had it to do all over again, I would have paid for a trial bouquet (I didn't do bridal portraits). I do believe Melanie is capable of creating the bouquet I dreamed of, and a trial bouquet would have given us the opportunity to fix whatever sort of disconnect or miscommunication occurred. read more

Melanie and her crew from Last Petal are AMAZING. They recently did the flowers for my wedding, and WOW- I have never been so impressed. I had two meetings with Melanie prior to the wedding- one to go over what I was thinking, and a final one a few weeks before the wedding. Melanie was so patient and thoughtful as I went back and forth, unable to make a decision. I went in only knowing colors, and she was able to craft up a master plan of ideas for me to pick and chose from. She gets all the credit for making my wedding as beautiful as it was. Melanie has been a great help with my sister in law's baby shower. She knows her stuff, is good about following up, and her flowers from the last event she helped me with lasted a week (awesome quality) and were a great price. Melanie did an awesome job with our flowers for both our rehearsal dinner and wedding. She brought to life exactly what I wanted for our center pieces, installation, bridal flowers, boutonnieres, and church! Her pricing was also reasonable in comparison with other florists we considered. She also is willing to donate the flowers after the wedding, which we appreciated! Our only frustration during the course of the planning was with communication - payment dates were incorrect on some of our contract documents and communication was not especially quick. Last Petal did an amazing job as the florist at our wedding at the Allan House in October. While we didn't have a huge amount of money for flowers, Melanie and her team put together the most beautiful ensembles for both the wedding and rehearsal dinner so that we could use them at both. Then they outdid themselves with the most beautiful bouquets, including a custom made one for me that was stunning. Our flowers for our wedding were INCREDIBLE!!!! I got so many compliments!! Melanie totally got my vision and delivered beautifully! She is not very responsive as other brides say during the planning time and while that caused stress for me it turned out really well so I am happy! What I appreciated about her was I felt like choosing a florist was a bit like the three bears- one wanted too much direction and wasn't as much of an artist, one was all artist and barely wanted to talk to me about details, while Melanie was happy to talk flowers and numbers and details to put me at ease but was also willing to take over as an artist when needed to push my vision through in areas I couldn't describe well. I had a MOH work with Melanie to design the florals for my 1/30 wedding on Brazos Hall's roof deck. I knew I liked sunflowers, I knew I liked hydrangeas and that was about all I knew so I was glad when my MOH found a vendor who knew her stuff as well as Melanie did. When she showed up with the most gorgeous bouquets I have ever seen, I could not have been happier. She attached a very special pin that my late father had given me to my bouquet and I was not at all concerned it would get lost - that thing was connected! Arriving at our venue and seeing how amazing the florals looked and how well they tied to the bouquets - it was a dream.
