Me and my girl was looking for a coffee shop that was laptop friendly and closed late since we came after work. I was a bit disappointed that they did not serve any alcoholic beverages as I saw a lot of good reviews on that portion. We came, we sat down on a Saturday night. There was only one person at the front and it seemed she was also managing the serving part so it did get pretty hectic at some point. We decided to order the Budae Jigae (Hot Pot), there is no way to alter the spicy level so for those who love spicy spicy, this is for you. Me and my friend was really disturbed by the fact that we were treated some type of way. Maybe it's because we weren't Korean or? Service was slow asf. It took a really long time for them to serve me my iced strawberry matcha drink. And even longer for the food. It was also hard to tag her down, and she seemed pretty annoyed that we had to ask her for multiple items. We were a party of 2 and she only gave us one set of items. I went again by myself the next day to see if it was better service and it was pretty packed. There was actually 3-4 people at the front but even then it was so hard to get someone to take my order, ask for napkins, for the check, etc. While there was no time limit on Saturday, there was a time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes on Sunday. would I go again? Maybe, but it's def veering towards the no side. read more

Cute cafe with a surprisingly large selection of food and drinks. The shakshuka was spicier than expected but very flavorful, and the black pepper steak was also quite good. I found the matcha a bit gritty. I really enjoy coming here for drinks! I recommend grabbing their matcha strawberry drink which is sweet & refreshing! I typically ask for light ice and less of the strawberry base since I'm not a big sweets person, but this one is delicious! I also tried their dishes for lunch, but I'd come back more for the drinks! Lately Cafe is a bit of a strange place. Me and my girlfriend stopped by late one evening when we needed a bit of a pick-me-up before heading back home. We ordered some coffee, and a little plate of food The latte wasn't particularly great, and took them AGES to actually make it. It seemed like maybe they were having a latte art night or something at the time? There were a lot of people who seemed like friends of the staff just playing around with the espresso machines and stuff. A positive is that there is a lot of seating here. So, we had no trouble finding a cozy spot to sit and eat. The food and drinks were okay, but I just don't think it would be a place I'd go again, unfortunately. My SIL and I were heading to Manhattan for volunteer work and stopped by The Lately since we ran into a couple walking out who said it was great. We went around 10 on a Saturday and got seated right away. We shared the shakshuka which was flavorful but a little watery (wish the sauce was thicker). I got a hazelnut mocha, she got a matcha latte, both with oat milk which is an additional charge. My drink was good, but hers was the winner because actually tasted like real matcha, not the usual watered-down stuff. Super cute cafe with ample amount of seating and fun beverage options. My mistake was I ordered a butter beer latte, thinking there wouldn't be coffee/espresso in it, which there was. They have a dining area where you can be seated or just get it to go. If only getting coffee, I'd opt to just get it to go. Butterbeer flavor did not come out prominently enough for me. Came here to pick up brunch with some friends to go. We got the chicken pasta, mushroom cream chicken over rice with an egg, and grilled chicken sandwich. Everything was nice and hot, even when we got back home. The price point was about $16-20 per entree. My grilled chicken sandwich had arugula, cheese, avocado, a huge piece of grilled chicken, and a spicy mayo sauce. It was huge, filling and delicious. The mushroom cream chicken over rice was rich and filling and well seasoned. The chicken pasta seemed to be a very similar sauce, if not the exact same, as the mushroom cream chicken over rice but just on pasta haha but my friend said it was really good and enjoyed it alot. Really cute cafe with some super unique sandwiches. The pork floss sando definitely caught my eye, because I grew up eating pork floss but almost never see it used in restaurants. The burger itself was not my favorite thing ever, but I think the uniqueness to it definitely gave it some more points. The salmon toast was really yummy. read more

Wow wow!! This place is Amazing!! I came to LIC for a dance class and came out super hungry. I was not dressed up for a fancy place. My dress was casual, so that was the reason I chose Lately Cafe. They originally were a coffee shop, and now serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Well the fried pork ribs were juicy and super flavorful, I had the spicy seafood salad, that was beyond amazing as well. And lastly I had the Firey Ribs Hot Pot. My friends and I shared, 4 of us. It was a perfect portion. Don't sleep on Lately Cafe. This is a hidden gem. Also they had oatmilk and almond milk for my cappuccino so I finished with a lovey perfectly steeped Cappuccino. My friend and I are on an ongoing journey to find cafes in NYC, especially in Queens, to work at. We came in on an early Monday afternoon, a little before 1 pm, to see all the seats were taken, so we put in our drink orders and sat at the bench to chat and wait. It seems like people tend to come in and out, so we were able to get a seat rather quickly! After 1-2 hours of being there, the majority of the buzz that we saw around lunchtime was practically gone. I ordered an Iced Pistachio Latte with Oat Milk (~$7) and I loved it. It was my first time having a Pistachio Latte so I'm not sure how it fares against other cafes, but I liked the slight, nutty sweetness of the drink that complemented the coffee itself. It seems like there are a lot of food options too, which I plan on trying at a future visit! If you're looking for WFH cafes, this is a great option. There are a lot of outlets for laptops and devices, although you do have to choose a table or bench by the wall. When we first came in, these tables were filled so come early or wait it out. I had to pay the full price even without milk :') Their Earl grey tea is actually VERY fragrant, I wished they served it in a large cup because I usually like to leave my tea leaves in for longer and after just a few minutes the flavor was too strong for the small cup. But I did like it! Kind of want to buy the tea bags I was about to get an ube latte once but then learned that it's actually caffeine free, so I decided to go somewhere else. I haven't had the food here but it did look good, esp the chicken sandwich. The first time I came it was pretty quiet the whole morning (maybe a Wednesday or Thursday?) but the second time was packed (Friday). I didn't think the decorations and set-up in this cafe was that nice, so I was disappointed since I was looking for a cozy cafe atmosphere. There are sit-down tables (about 7) where you can sit, work, eat, talk. The decorations were pretty bare, but there is low volume music playing in the background which was nice. The pasta burrata was mid, and I could make this at home probably better and cheaper than $16. The coconut matcha latte was worth it, and I would order this again. The coconut flavor wasn't too strong and I think the matcha stood out. The food overall was pretty good. The drinks were a bit questionable. The iced ube latte was very watery and diluted while the iced matcha latte tasted bitter despite being asked if we wanted the drink to be sweeter. The grilled chicken sandwich required a knife since it was a whole chicken, but upon asking for one, they said they were out of knives. When asking if there were any plastic or ones that could be quickly washed, they repeated that they ran out in a frustrating tone. This was pretty odd since we only saw like 2 other people in the cafe who ordered food, so by that logic they only have 2 knives in the entire kitchen. We compromised by stabbing a fork in the middle of the sandwich, so the inside contents wouldn't fall out, but would have hoped the staff was more apologetic about the lack of silverware available for the food. read more

New coffeeshop in LIC opened up and it's lovely. My review is based on the opening month which didn't have too much inside, however, the coffee was solid and so was the sweet customer service. It was a quiet mid afternoon on a weekday and several customers dined in as well. The seating was limited with small side tables. The big window facing the courtyard outside gave a nice afternoon lighting, great for pictures and natural light. For me to critique the espresso drinks, I usually do the Americano/drip coffee test and of course it hit the nail. They do NOT do drip, however. I heard their coconut latte is their staple from the barista and several passing customers. The pastries were limited, although the cookie was delicious and great with my drink. Overall, the ambience has a very natural wood and greenery interior. More nice things happening post COVID in LIC. Accepts cash, card and Applepay. Indoor/outdoor and takeout available. This is a brand new coffee shop that just opened on Monday! I stopped by this morning and ordered the coconut latte with oat milk. This was an excellent drink, it wasn't overly sweet, and the espresso was smooth. Would get this again! I also overheard the customer in front of me rave about the cold brew, and how it was the best one he's had. The have a few pastries as well. Good when they get your order right. Otherwise, the mean barista stereotype definitely fits here. Consistently super unhelpful. One time, I'm pretty sure they messed up my order and gave me the wrong milk. Didn't make a big deal - waited for the barista to stop doing what he was doing and asked if it was oat milk. He lied and said it was. I asked if they had changed oat milks, and he said no. I order the exact same order every single time I visit here - an iced oat latte. I even ordered it the day before. It was different - even a different color. Another time, a guy came in and asked for directions. Instead of just saying that they didn't know or pointing in a general vicinity, they just stared at him till I answered the guy because it was uncomfortable and awkward. He had a follow up question and the barista literally told him that he could "maybe use a GPS device," which the guy said he didn't have. I ended up Google mapping for him. Anyways, these were two different baristas. So, chance it, I guess? I come here cause it's right off the train, and the oat milk they use is better than birch's oat milk. If you have 5 extra minutes, No Stress Coffee is down the street. Their scones are good.
