I needed a spot to take a work meeting and this was the closest place I found with free wifi. I got a matcha latte with maple syrup and it was delicious! The barista is really friendly and honest, and also warned me that the wifi may not be the best for Zoom meetings but I took the risk. There's plenty of seating in this café so I found a comfy couch with a table to work from. The wifi was totally fine despite the barista's warning, but it was really noisy inside the café so that was the primary challenge. read more

Sweetleaf is really excellent coffee operating out of LIC and I've found myself coming back time and time again for not just their coffee but the beans they sell here too. They may be a little out of the way but trust me they're worth it. To their name, I do find their coffee to be distinctly sweet compared to a lot of the other coffee I've tried around the city and I kind of like it. They also do a great job making espresso based drinks, foaming the milk evenly and nicely, and making a cappuccino that blends with the espresso as one happily married texture. The space also gets a ton of natural lighting, has a few benches outside for you to enjoy your coffee, and space for you to maybe get some work done or catch up with a friend. It has an old-timey charm to it, with lots of wood in its interior design and even is reminiscent of a dive bar but in the best ways possible (aka, like a really clean cool dive bar). read more

If you're looking for a quiet place to work from, that isn't one of the rowdy food halls in the area, then this spot will do the trick. I believe it is one of the smaller of their locations but there wasn't much of an issue getting a spot to work from. Had a large chai from here and it was pretty good. Service was fast and quick. I found a spot in the corner and was able to participate in two work calls before heading to my next meeting. Their bathroom was also well kept for being in such a high traffic location and I was impressed by this. Finally, their WiFi was free and easy to work off of. Came here for a stop after lunch at Tacombi in LIC. It was nice and warm and quiet inside, perfect for a tea or coffee. I got the Rooibos tea. It was fine. Pretty cozy with the bulb lights and small couch seating. Bathroom was pretty nice and big. I'm not in the LIC area often, so I probably won't be back, but it was a nice place to stop in, have a coffee and tea, and warm up from the cold winter day. Cool hip vibe. Service was fine. No complaints. I think I was there close to closing time, so maybe they turned off any music, but it was really quiet the time I went. I enjoyed the proximity of this cafe of where I need to go/be. Coffee is decent, matcha is good. I was most disappointed in the salmon toast, though I was surprised by the accompanying fruit. They said it would take about 20 minutes to make. The result of this 20 minute toast is a bit less desirable than what I imagined. Perhaps I should've gone for the egg hash instead. Good coffee, friendly staff and a cool vibe! The name of the shop is an ode to a Black Sabbath song and you're immediately greeted by a mural of the band upon entry. Pretty cool! I went here on a Sunday morning and the staff greeted us right away. I saw their "Pump Rock" special - housemade pumpkin spice syrup with their Rocket Fuel cold brew and milk. I was instantly intrigued so decided to order that. My boyfriend opted for the Americano. The wait for our drinks was super speedy, which was great. We decided to grab a seat in their seating area, which was small for a coffee shop that offers food. The space was decorated with music items and had a mural of Louis Armstrong and several Black Sabbath albums on the wall. Both drinks were tasty! Argh possibly one of the worst matcha lattes I've ever had. I imagine their recipe went something like, step 1: make a matcha latte; step 2: pour 50% of it out and replace with cold water; step 3: further dilute with ice. Seriously, though: my drink just had no flavour - not the matcha nor the milk, only a very watery shadow thereof. It was a surprise at first because visually it did look really appealing :( Anyways, it was really disappointing - and for over $6? Don't think I'll be back. Interior was also a bit lacking in my opinion; seating was somewhat limited, and many of the seats were either small chairs/tables or a rather uncomfortable booth. But this time I wanted to make it worth it. I came across Sweet Leaf and they definitely blew me away. The quality the various options of fresh baked goods and coffee beverages. I knew for a fact I started my morning just right after visiting. The bathroom were clean, the dining area was clean. My experience overall with my meal.... Perfect! The staff was great. As of April 2021: Here I am again and same review as 2019, however, there are NO outlets apparently. Social distancing/limited seating inside due to COVID-19 safety. The person at the counter has terrible customer service skills. Firstly, no greeting, my advice to the owner do more to hire competent staff. Issue description: Ordered 2 slices of banana walnut cake priced at 3.75 (see image attached evidence), he rings me up for $4.00 each. When I point out the obvious discrepancy (as a matter of principle) he says he can't do anything and was trying to argue his way out. I mentioned instead of arguing with a customer find a way to correct the issue. I got some incoherent response. So I ask for the manager, guess what? Manager was not helpful either. This location rocks! I went in after countless attempts to find a great coffee spot in Queens, everything so far has failed. Bad taste, too much foam for a latte, no separation between the espresso and the milk. So, I was greeted as soon as I walked in by the barista which was amazing. the shop is small but that's fine, an amazing latte will easily make the lack of a lot of space ok. I ordered a caramel latte and in a few minutes this is what I received. I took the first sip and my goodness, I fell in love. The milk was smooth, not too much foam. The espresso was deep, with a bitterness. The syrup, tasted like Caramel which in combination with the other two, made it amazing. I've since then tried two of their other locations. After walking by an unopened, under construction Sweetleaf for a year, they finally opened and I got to finally try it out. When walking in, the first thing you notice is the space; it is pretty nice. There is a sort of dividing wall between the cash register/coffee bar area and the seating area. The seating area is pretty spacious. I went on a weekend morning, and it wasn't too busy and was easy to get a seat. I wonder how it is at other times. The seats are only along the walls with the center of the room pretty open; it makes for a very spacious feel while sacrificing seating. It wasn't a problem when I went, but has the potential for no available seats at other times. About the space, you also notice the art. The walls are inspired by street art and create an urban feel to the place and, couple with the grungy and punk music that was playing, it was a somewhat unique experience that fit my tastes pretty well. On to the coffee. This place is a bit pricy. In my opinion, prices could be knocked down 50 cents and it'd be perfect. We tried a cappucino oat milk and a Voodoo Child. The cappucino wasn't bad, but could have been better. Was a little bit too bitter. Maybe this was because of the oat milk, not sure. The Voodoo Child was really good, but this is a dessert drink. It is cold brew Vietnamese-style. In other words, it has condensed milk and sweet cream in it. It tastes very good, but is very sweet. If you aren't a fan of sweet drinks, try something else. I loved it, though. Overall, Sweetleaf was nice. I spent the morning there reading and enjoying the music and a nice, sweet cold brew. The priciness keeps me from giving it top marks, but if you are okay with shelling out a little more for coffee, Sweetleaf is definitely a nice place to hang out. I recommend hanging out there more than coffee to go. You could get just as good or better coffee for less. The price of Sweetleaf is for the whole experience. read more

Cute little coffee shop in LIC. I work in the area and this spot has replaced my daily Starbucks runs. They have plenty of regular and unique drink options, from coffee to specialty lattes and herbal teas. Also amazing pastries that are also gluten free which is always a win for me! I highly recommend the rocket fuel, maple latte and the herbal teas. They also make a great matcha and chai latte which isn't pre-sweeteneed like many other shops out there, although a little on the pricier side Staff is really sweet and friendly - they always strike up a conversation if you're down. I also like that there is plenty of seating indoors in case you want to get some work done or just grab coffee with a friend Overall I highly recommend.
