As requested, I will keep the individual location names secret as to not spoil your potential food tour but also because the stops can change and I don't want to have you disappointed if you don't get the same places on your tour. Ty was a great guide, providing us with local history and culture as we ate our way down Magazine Street. The only complaint I have is that they didn't really interact with us during the food portions, standing or sitting off to the side, or running to the next location to make sure we were all set. To me, the guide should be not only the bridge between the locations and food with us, but also a bridge between the different groups on the tour. Ty told us before the tour started that the other folks joining us were from Michigan, but we found out from them later that they were actually from New York. Had these connections been made earlier, it would have enhanced the tour. On to the food, wonderful that it all was! Please note that I may make some errors in the actual names of the food, while I took pictures, I did not write down the names and there wasn't a post-tour recap to assist me! Stop #1: A local sandwich and a seafood side. Both quite good, especially since I don't like olives! Stop #2: An unusual meat that was shockingly good! Stop #3: Seafood options. I've had a different version of one of these items in Asheville, NC. This wasn't quite as good but still tasty. Stop #4: Southern favorites that were so good! I didn't think I would like these but I did. Stop #5: A peppermint fudge cupcake. Sadly, the weakest stop on the tour. Other that tried the gelato came away disappointed and my cupcake was neither overly fudgey or pepperminty. It looked pretty, though!

This is a small group experience, which is why I wanted to do this one. We met at the Tableau Restaurant and were offered the choice of an aperol spritz or a French 75. We chose the spritz. We were told some history and ghost lore before going up to the wine room for some more stories. Very cool. They showed us video of a ghostly incident that had occurred there before. Next we walked down the street where we were told about the haunting at Muriel's Restaurant, where they also set a ghost table. Our last stop was at a psychic shop where we did a tarot card reading and we're given a Pan Am cocktail. I highly recommend this tour. It's unique and you get a little bit of all the good things you come to New Orleans for.

The area was our first stop on our American Cruise Lines River Cruise and a short bus ride from the dock. Our group took one boat and we were easily loaded on and viewing was easy. Just remember the golden rule. "Keep all body parts in the boat." we were definitely reminded of this rule through the whole trip as people tend to lean over the side. After you see your first alligator swiming up to the ship you remember that they see you as bait. Our driver / tourguide was feeding them marshmallows which was actually fun to watch. It wasn't just the gators... We saw wild raccoons and boar. This was truly a wild game park [swamp.]. No trained animals here. An old cemetery, tee pees and great views just rounded out the whole trip. This was fun and I added a few photos to go with this narrative. She came across like an overly dramatic theater kid who couldn't dial it back. Her mannerisms and constant theatrics were cringey, and while maybe one or two stories had potential, the delivery completely ruined them. She would randomly go off on personal tangents (where she lives, her parents, and other irrelevant details) that had absolutely nothing to do with ghosts or vampires and added nothing to the experience. The worst part was her points system, where she'd give out points if people followed instructions or answered questions. For example, when we stayed on the sidewalk instead of walking in the street, she'd shout "10 points!" and point at each person while repeating it. It wasn't quirky or fun, it was just annoying. I wouldn't recommend this tour based on her alone. After our awful experience we tried another company called Nola Ghost Riders and I'd highly recommend them. They are located at the Voodoo Lounge off Decatur St, while French Quarter Phantoms is at Voodoo Lounge off Rampart St.

If you were not seeking this place, you might go right by it without a second glance. But knowing the history here, I had to check it out and add it to the places that I have been. This house fits in with the darker side of the history of New Orleans. It is a stop on ghost tours and it's owner, Marie Delphine LaLaurie, was the inspiration for the third season of "American Horror Story." If you are in New Orleans, I would definitely recommend a visit here.

The other small group got to hold a baby but our driver said best not to upset the protective mom. He told us that out of 200 babies only a small percentage will survive. He gave us a better show: did you know raccoons and gators like to eat marshmallows? He even fed the raccoon with its outstretched paws and told the huge gator to give him a kiss. The gator opened its mouth twice with sharp teeth and let him put his face there. He even pet it on its head. Couple more gators came swimming fighting for their share of marshmallow. Warning: Sentimental review ahead…read more I realize that when many people think about The Point they think of it as a place to bring a date. It wasn't until recently I even knew that's what people did. I always assumed all of those cars were people fishing. The reason I rate this place five stars, and the reason I must drive past here whenever I am close is because of my dad. My family would frequently come down to the west end area and have family meals. Whether it was Bruning's or Russell's, as soon as we finished we had another family tradition. My dad would drive us around the boathouses down by the yacht club then on to The Point. Once there we would either circle and leave, watch the boats or feed the seagulls. I have continued this tradition into adulthood. If I am anywhere near West End, I must make that circuit. This has led to some truly powerful memories and it will try and share a few with you. Back in 2005 after the flooding subsided, but long before the city allowed people back, I was in the Lakeview area. I knew that the devastation around The Point was significant, but I wasn't prepared for what I saw. Bruning's was gone. The yacht harbor was destroyed and boats were piled high on the road and in the harbor. The boathouses were in sad shape. Of all the damage I witnessed during that period of time, this one hit me hard. It felt like that part of my childhood was gone and I would never get it back. It still brings tears to my eyes. Several years later, my oldest daughter had a soccer game one Saturday. Afterward we drove to West End and ate with my dad and brother. The meal was great, and when it ended we said our goodbyes. I loaded up the family and made that circuit I had learned so many years before. As I neared the point I saw a familiar site. There was my dad feeding the seagulls the leftover bread from our meal. We stopped and the look on my daughter's face was priceless. Those photos of my dad and daughter are some of my favorite of all time. Little did I know that while I was trying to avoid being pooped on by those seagulls, I was making a lifelong memory. That's all the sharing for now. Just know that if I am anywhere near here, you are likely to see me driving around and reminiscing.
