And not everyone can make a good cafe the way it should be. The empanadas tasted fresh and flavorful. I had the grilled chicken with the rice and beans. Ans my husband had a chicken sandwich. The sandwich could be a little better but still the chicken was very flavorful. Overall the waitress was so sweet and attentive. I'm always looking to support mom and pop businesses so I was eager to try it and hoped it would become a regular on the rotation.... But alas, I was sorely disappointed. The waitress was very nice but it wasn't her fault the Cuban dishes we ordered(different forms of roast pork) were mediocre. The only error that was hers alone was handing us the wrong meals despite stating the orders aloud and each of us identifying who had what, but not a big deal though, just odd. We had a lot of excellent Cuban in the past after living in deep, south Florida and I certainly missed it, but I guess I will remain unrequited. The red flag that there wasn't to be great time and attention put into the food was the half-ass attempt at painting the small dining room , with previously placed appliances and pictures just painted around them, rather than removed to paint the entire wall. A job that's worth doing , is worth doing well... one would think with a small business, this would be a central precept and their food reflected the lack of pride that was evident in the physical space. We moved here from south Florida a year ago. We finally got to try the Latin Family Restaurant. I should have known when we got there and they only had 3 menus in the entire restaurant and they didn't have any prices. My wife ordered the roast pork. At best it was very marginal. I ordered the breaded steak. The food came out in a reasonable time. My steak was deep fried and tasted like the oil should have been changed last month. Price for both meals for what we got was expensive. Nearly $50. We didn't finish them and opted not to take them home. For us......it's a NEVER again. read more

This was by far the best food I've had in a VERY LONG TIME! I'm only here for the rivers, so I won't be able to eat it whenever I crave it, but it was so god; my friends and I were fighting over the BREAD! Stopped here for a quick lunch after exploring Rainbow Springs nearby. Chicken with rice, beans, and plantains is enough for 2 people and delicious. We had a wonderful experience here. My brother and I are half-Cuban and enjoyed everything we ate, as did our wives. We finished a paddle on the Rainbow River and were very hungry. We ordered a lot of fun and enjoyed all of it. We started with Yuca Frita, tostones, empanadas, and croquetas de jamon. We order Palomilla and grilled chicken for entrees and finished it off with some delicious flan. The bread was delicious as well. We enjoyed the service, which was prompt, welcoming, and efficient. Honestly, their food gives me that home cooked vibe. Simple place, but the food is nice. I do like their empanadas alot.

We've eaten here before when It was Penn Station but I guess now it is different owners. My husband and I both ordered Cuban sandwiches which were good. The server was excellent but considering nobody else was in there it seemed to take a while before we received our food. The reason I didn't give it more stars was the smell. It smells like everything cooked in there was deep fried. When I left I had to change clothes because they still smelled like the restaurant. Might do them good to replace the gross carpet and clean it a little better. read more

I must say that I despaired of finding ANY Cuban Restaurants in this area...until a good friend wanted to eat at this Dunnellon jewel for her birthday. Wow. The churrasco was perfectly cooked and seasoned with chimichurri, the red beans were phenomenal, the plantains just right. The complimentary bread was delicious and lightly seasoned: wonderful. The flan...Well, it was BETTER than my own mother's and SHE knew how to make flan (I'm sorry, Mama...I know that you are frowning down on me from heaven, but it's the truth). The flan even has a patent. No fooling! See the photo I took. I also picked up the ham croquettes to go and I'm loving that too. Carlos (owner) was fantastic and customer service is #1 here. I mentioned to him when I arrived that I was craving fresh avocado. The man went next door and bought them and made them into a wonderful salad with a fresh, very tasty pico de gallo on the side! Now, WHERE can you find that level of care for customers in this area?!! The waitress Teresa was spot-on with her service. I am coming back for the Garlic Shrimp (Camarones Al Ajillo) but after Carlos showed me a special base from Maine of his Camarones Enchilado, I might try that first...OR the Vaca Frita...OR the Lechon Asado. Ahhh...so many dishes to try and so little time. THIS is my VERY favorite restaurant in these parts and I'm coming back with 'reinforcements' (more customers). The food is really decent but they charge what they feel like. The menu isn't updated and they won't give you an accurate one as they state they don't have any. I felt that was off after being charged $12 over what was printed for two lunch meals. I did ask what the updated prices were and they stated they do not know after taking my money. We found this little cafe by accident. But what a find. Nothing fancy in decor, but, excellent traditional Cuban or Latin food. I had the credo asada with black beans and rice. My wife had the chicken breast with black beans and rice. Best Latin food I have eaten since leaving Miami's little Havana district. Finished dinner with cafe con leche, hot and sweet. read more

Stopped in one morning for a colada and met Carlos. We moved up from Miami a few months ago, and miss good old Latin food. We decided to come in for lunch today, it was so good! I had the steak empanizado and we had tostones. My husband had white rice, and black bean soup and it was so good too!
