Stuffed flounder was excellent. Prices reasonable for a legit seafood restaurant in fish country. Indoor or outdoor seating available. Access is a bit dicey -- Highway 200 narrows for the old bridge over the Withlacoochee, cars are going fast and there's no margin for error while you are poking along trying to turn in our back out onto the highway. read more

I went with my daughter on a Friday night. Very friendly people and family environment. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outdoors this restaurant is by the river. You feel the peace that the waters and surrounded by oaks and nature. And there is a full bar outdoors as well The food was ok. We had clam chowder soup wasn't my favorite but had worse. And we ordered two appetizers escargot which I don't recommend it included 5 snails on top of a lot of small mushrooms and it wasn't seasoned well!! Hard to match my previous escargot plates in other restaurants. The other appetizer was gator bites. I liked that! For our main entree we shared a seafood combo but you had to choose from fried, boiled or blackened and we chose fried they couldn't accommodate having half the plate cooked a different way so was just too much fried seafood. The platter brings shrimp, white fish, scallops, à crab cake, and oysters. The shrimp were big and tasty, and the white fish was delicious scallops were also good but the rest not so much. It's hard to eat all fried and all seasoned the same except the crab cake ( a lot of veggies in it and not enough crab so you don't really eating à crab cake) I hope this helps read more

We stopped in with family and had good hopes given the old Florida feel location and reviews. We had to move tables because we could barely fit into the booth and we are not large people. Then 3 other families proceeded to get placed at that table and also need to be relocated. The bathrooms are so small and need a serious upgrade. Our waitress was sweet but kept coughing into her hand when at our table. At one point after I'd finished my meal, I noticed a fly in my beer. We let her know and her response was, "Yeah, we have a lot of bugs and it happens. Nothing we can do about it." Not the response I was hoping for. Food wise the Cajun stew was good but tasted more like a chili. The stuffed flounder was decent and the baked potato was perfect. We will not be back which is unfortunate due to its quaint location. read more

My wife and I, along with a couple of neighbors/friends of ours went to Stumpknochers for dinner last night. I ordered a blackened swordfish that came with coleslaw and green beans, hush puppies and a baked potato with sour cream while my wife had fried mahi mahi with cole slaw, hush puppies and a baked sweet potato...our friends had the blackened swordfish and barbecue ribs. We had mozzarella cheese sticks and fried green tomatoes as appetizers. The food was perfect, Cheyenne was our server and she was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and her personality was outstanding! We really all agreed that everything was delicious and the service excellent! We will return!! read more

We went out for an early dinner thinking that we could beat the crowds on a Sunday afternoon. WRONG!! The place was packed and parking is at a premium. Don't bring a trailer here. Even with the crowd, we were seated right away. The place is huge with lots of tables. Our waitress was wonderful even though she had plenty of tables to wait on. I had the stuffed flounder and my wife had a seafood platter. Normally I'm not one to need a doggie bag but portions were huge and we both took home enough leftovers for another meal. We decided to stop in when we were in the area, and this was our second time in the restaurant. Since it was a balmy afternoon we decided to sit outside on the patio overlooking the river, but we didn't realize how loud the traffic would be. We ordered fried green tomatoes as appetizer, and hubby ordered the prime rib, I ordered the fish trio. The tomatoes were good, coated in a light cornmeal breading, with a light dipping sauce. I ate three of the six tomatoes and brought the extras home. Our waitress was very attentive and she refilled our drinks quickly even though the restaurant was getting crowded. Our entrees arrived - my husband's was enormous and he enjoyed it greatly. My trio of crab cake, shrimp and fish tenders were served along with tartar and cocktail sauces. The fried shrimp were especially tasty and I enjoyed them. However the fish tenders taste was a bit off - not sure what but I didn't finish them. Before leaving I wanted to wash my hands, and was disappointed to find that the restrooms are located on the back of the dining room up some stairs. Unfortunately I am unable to navigate steps without great difficulty but took them as slowly as I could. The restrooms are not handicap accessible and very worn and needed a thorough cleaning. I was not aware of their condition until after our meal, and wouldn't have stopped if I knew the condition of them. I know we won't return, even though our waitress was terrific. read more

Absolutely fabulous! I loved the location on the river, the food and the service. My catfish was just fantastic. My Wife's shrimp was done to perfection. My salad was more than enough and tasted great. Enjoyed the hush puppies and potato. Just all around, a great job. We drove 40 minutes to get there but it was well worth it. This place is just the right amount of old Florida FUNKY. Best thing on the menu is their plentiful basket of gator bites and their icy pitchers of stumpknockers beer. We love to come at 5pm for a sunset on the river and a stroll along its banks, beer in hand and belly full of gator bites. They have lots of classics on the menu which look good. Had a great experience here. We ordered fried mushrooms, the fried shrimp and blackened Mahi Mahi. when I mentioned the fish was overcooked, the server didn't hesitate to make it right. He brought out a new portion that was cooked perfectly. Service was fast, the food was delicious, and the portions were generous. The place has been around since 1988, and it's easy to see why. We had a wonderful experience at Stumpknockers several weeks ago with a fairly large group. Our servers, Megan and Jessica, provided exceptional service from start to finish. They efficiently split our group into two tables so orders could be taken quickly, and they delivered our drinks and meals in a very reasonable amount of time. The food was excellent, and the service was so impressive that I asked to speak with the manager to share our appreciation. My son came into town to visit so we took a quick drive up the road to get some early dinner together. They weren't very busy when we arrived and were quickly seated in a booth. Our waitress took our drink order right away and made sure to tell up about their specials for the day. We ordered some fried mushrooms to share. They came out within 5 minutes and were very delicious. I ordered the stuffed flounder entrees and my son ordered their surf and turf. My family and I stopped in for dinner and sat outside on the patio. They had huge fans going, despite it being a cooler night. Shortly after we sat down, our waitress informed us that they have been battling a bee issue at their bar area which is why they had the fans going. The lady, maybe the owner, is the rudest and hateful . We arrived a party of 13, one lady in a wheelchair. She you should have told me about the wheelchair! I said, than's for the welcoming greetings. She said I told you to go up stairs. The waitress perhaps new struggled to take and serve the food asking everyone what did you order. She may be new, think we all tipped her 20 percent. Lunch is much better than dinner, the hamburgers are delicious at lunch, no burgers after4pm. Perhaps I would go back for lunch but not for dinner. Cozy little place that you would miss if you sneezed. Small paved parking lot with overflow parking adjacent. Covered outdoor seating and an outdoor bar and inside seating as well. Gabriel was our server and she was on-point, attentive and friendly. I had a daily special of BBQ 1/4 chicken. Everything was tasty, but I particularly enjoyed the coleslaw and fries. This was a one and done experience. Don't EVER order the conch fritters...we cut into them and grease poured out of them. I showed it to the server and she said they would fix it. They came back looking exactly the same. We should have refused them but instead we paid the $16.00 and threw them in the trash. As far as the entrees....we ordered catfish and shrimp. The only thing I can say is they were just okay. We have been to other restaurants on the water that are way better food quality wise and atmosphere wise. A very disappointing experience. read more

I was not sure exactly where to go on this one, as I can review on the food, the ambiance, or the location and end with different points on the board. I am going to stick with the overall. My first trip I just stopped to grab some fried mushrooms for dad. The appetizer runs about $11, which seemed steep, but look at the pictures and you can tell this is not your average appetizer. I brought home a full togo box with the dipping sauce and ended up with some leftovers, as I was looking for an appetizer, not a fried meal. The place is very quaint. The majority of the staff have worked there for quite some time and it feels a lot like family. The location on the river is very nice and it has a quaint type of old country feel. The waitress was straight put and still managed to smile and ensure we had what we needed. Had the gator nuggets!! Get them!!! Taste good!! Had the fried green tomatoes and fried mushrooms, both delicious!!! Also, had to try the catfish. This is a must!! As a girl from New England who likes her Haddock and shrimp.and scallops I definitely wanted to try it. I was not dissaointed, at all! They cooked it perfectly and it wasn't a heavy coating, very light. The fish is mild and slightly dense. As far as I'm concerned my Mother makes the best cole slaw, but this place is my top for second!! Make sure you get some. Very rustic and down to earth with the regulars at the bar. Stopped by because the restaurant was near a beautiful lake and i wanted to try their alligator over all my meal and dessert was pretty good but they ended up giving me a to-go cup of dirty brownish looking water. I met up with friends at this lovely spot on the river, and was captivated by the rustic setting. The friendly staff and open-air patio were all very welcoming. We ordered the fried alligator bites which were large enough for a meal and plenty for all of us as an appetizer. The escargo was served out of the shell, nestled in a souffle dish with butter, green peppers, mushrooms and onions, and had a good flavor. The food overall was solid and plentiful, but each of us agreed we were not awestruck by anything in particular. The setting is definitely a welcome break from the bustle of a large city and made the time we spent enjoying the day very worthwhile. read more
