My story is that my hair is hard to cut: very straight with cow licks all over the place. Plus that, I'm a complete perfectionist. When I first moved to Dallas 26 years ago, there was a lovely old guy at Neiman Marcus who charged me $40 for a fantastic cut. This spoiled me. When he retired, I discovered that hair cuts were a lot more expensive than that, and they weren't always very good. I tried Supercuts, and there was one woman who gave me a decent enough cut, but one that needed styling, if you know what I mean. Then I found a fancy shmancy guy in Dallas do did do an excellent cut, but the cost was prohibitive -- not just for my budget, but for my conscience. Sorry. If I could afford that much for a hair cut, it should be going to charity anyhow. So what to do? I looked up Jon David Salon in Irving, and the woman making appointments recommended Albert. Are you SURE? I asked. My hair is a problem. Yes, she replied. Albert is really really good and he loves doing bobs. The price was moderate -- triple SuperCuts, but not as much as fancy schmancy Dallas places (and I don't like the vibe of those places, anyhow). So although I still have to spread out the appointments more than my hair would like, the cut is so good that it doesn't matter. Albert spent a LOT of time on my hair, and he was really precise. He was totally open to my suggestions (sorry! can't help myself!). He was responsive and honest and, most of all, an expert at what he does. Also he's a really good person. The salon itself is beautiful -- tasteful, not tacky. The vibe is really relaxing and upscale, but not chi-chi-pretentious. I would say more "European." The free parking is convenient in the garage right across the road (a big plus!) and they always ask me if I want something to drink, but I haven't yet had anything because I just want to focus on the hair.
