3 taco combo. Perfect carne asada
    Amalea R.

Dang. Probably some of the best carne asada I've had at a taco shop. Got the 3 taco combo with asada and adobada. Adobada was good too but the carne asada was melt in your mouth delicious. Beans were really good too.

We stopped in for Taco Tuesday as neighbors had recommended this place. It is relatively easy to find on a less busy street in Escondido. Street parking can be challenging to find if you're looking to park right in front of the store. If you mind walking a little, there is a bit of street parking around. Small tables on the sidewalk provide a place to enjoy the tacos right there. Otherwise most patrons opted to take their food to go. The market was not busy when we arrived but we probably missed the lunch rush. A friendly young lady assisted us behind the cash register, which is where you order upon entering the store. The adobada tacos come with cilantro, onion, guacamole and a side of salsa so you will be asked if you want all of that. We only ordered adobada tacos as that is our family's preferred taco meat with all the . The meat had the right color but lacked the flavor that we've come to expect from shops like TJ Tacos, maybe because the salsa comes on the side and I forgot to pour any on. The price was right since we were there for Taco Tuesday. Each small-sized one was only $1.99. They do offer larger tacos for a different price. Each takeout box had a roasted chile which was a nice touch. The corn tortillas were ok, sturdy but a bit dry, reminding my mom of why she prefers flour tortillas. Summary: for $2 a pop they're decent but not my first choice of adobada in Escondido.

If you drive from Puebla city to the port of Vera Cruz there are small fruit stands all along the side of the roads. Many years ago a lady at one of these stands offered me sugar cane and I refused because I never tasted it. She peeled it and cut it into small pieces with lime and chile on top. She kept insisting so I tried it finally. It was so delicious! I was addicted!

Searching for a late night snack and I remembered this location for its burritos. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were major improvements made to the market. It was bright and very clean. And the patrons that were there seemed to be having a great time. The menu is extensive. Order at the register and pickup when done. We ordered tamales and enjoyed them at home. They also sell frozen tamales as well. Very authentic Mexican fare. Prices are reasonable. And it tastes great!!!

Excellent Adobada, Carne Asada, and Carnitas tacos.

Some of the very best street tacos in town! All the meats were high quality with no inedible pieces, and well-seasoned with a good amount on each taco. The Adobada was well-marinated and delicious, but a bit dry compared with others in town. The Carne Asada was lean, slightly crispy, and very tasty with no chewy or inedible pieces--a rarity. The Carnitas was well-seasoned, tender, and juicy, but could have used a few crispy bits. Only two salsas are available: one mild green and one hot red. No free chips.

Considering our son that was supposed to bring home some Mexican food after going up Nate Harrison Grade/Mount Palomar after the huge amounts of fresh snow that was dropped, this place definitely hit the spot. When we found out he was not going to be home until later that evening, we decided to turn to Grub Hub and see what still delivers to us out in the middle of nowhere. We had already had a couple of cocktails each and were not willing to drive anywhere and our desire to prepare Mexican cuisine was not gonna happen either. "Hey, Grub Hub still has several options and Latinos Meat Market is one of the restaurants available . . . wanna give it a try?", I said to my wife. We live somewhat remotely, and delivery services out here was always limited to just Round Table Pizza. Tonight we decided to see if Grub Hub was still delivering since Grub Hub (others now also still available) had started delivering here since the beginning of the pandemic. We had concluded that using delivery services was about the same (cost wise) as going out if we order a couple of cocktails at the restaurant; plus, we don't have to worry about getting a DUI. Using Grub Hub we identified a couple of other Mexican cuisine restaurants that provided delivery. We decided to try Latinos as another option since we really only wanted some kind of takeout Mexican fare. We ordered a Carne Asada plate, a Quesadilla and a 3-pack of Taquitos. Everything arrived still pretty hot (hot enough). What would have cost about $25 (nowadays) at a local drive-through, cost us about $55 including $10 in tips. For sitting home in our comfortable environment while watching movies and drinking our cocktails in our pajamas, that seemed like a bargain price. Latrino's is standard American Mexican fare done just about as right as any other Mexican takeout. The order was filled properly and included everything in the bags (red and green salsas, napkins, forks AND spoons). Just upon opening the bags, I had realized I didn't order any carrots. Damn!!! We may just have to stop by here again in the future to check out "the meats". . . and the carrots. Dicks

A long time friend and new neighbor showed me this place recently. She loves to go there to get her taco fix and some goodies she cannot easily get at other places. We ate there and had some fruit drink that was on the sweet side. The store itself was pretty common standard Mexican grocery store, not finding too many veggies or fruits like other bigger markets. I think they focus more on the to go or sit and eat part, although they have a pretty good section of meats at the end of the store. I will go often and maybe my first 'just ok' impression improves.

Service is on point, like I said I've been here three times in probably 5 months and the crazy thing is on both return trips the guy recognized me like this is the epitome of mom & pop business right here. You feel seen and you realize the money your paying for your delicious food is going to real folks and not some corporate overlord nonsense. The vibe of the place is an industrial-esque sports bar the style that was super popular during the hipster face of restauranteering where everyone was going for the stripped down minimalist aesthetic but for this place it works. They have high seats, low seats and a couple TVs playing live sports with no real obstructions. We always come at off peak hours so I'm not sure how packed it would get but this seems like a good place to catch a PPV fight or something IF they don't pack everyone in like sardines. The food, jeez I should have probably made this the start of the review the food is decadent. EVERY dish we've tried has been packed with flavor, healthy portions, and fair prices. I recommend anything on the menu but if you want to get out of your comfort zone get the balkan fries, they're so good you won't regret it! We were looking for their prime product that was already marinated. The following morning, in preparation for a few guests arriving later, I grilled the product and unfortunately found out that the meat counter gave her a unmarinated product. While mistakes do happen, we called the store to patiently explain our issue and asked not for a refund, but a store credit for the next opportunity to get some carne from this small business. Unfortuately, this was flatly denied and the initial offer was a bag of chips or a small container of salsa the next time we came in. We were told by the manager's proxy, Valeria, that since the meat was cooked, it could not be brought back, because? Who knows. If it would have been raw, she said they would have taken it for an exchange or refund. What would they have done with it raw? When I asked how was I to know that it wasn't marinated before cooking it, she had no answer. I made sure to tell her that we have no intention of defrauding the store, and even mentioned I left a glowing review for them in Yelp. After another apology by her, I asked to speak to the actual manager. He declined to get on the phone with me. Curiously, after exclaiming my disappointment near the end of the conversation with Valeria, she offered me 1 free lb of meat but made sure to say she (they) would still be losing $20. With receipts in hand and a calm understanding phone call I was hoping for better customer service for our neighborhood store, but alas, more failure over $40 worth of meat. Too bad.

I recently compared produce prices with Trader Joe's next door, and Trader Joe's was significantly less expensive. More importantly, the last several times I have shopped in Major Market's produce section, I noticed multiple bagged salads, bagged vegetables, and even some refrigerated salad dressings that were well past their expiration dates. We have also purchased their fresh garlic croutons from the front of the store for many, many years. Recently, though, the crouton pieces were cut very long rather than into normal bite-sized pieces. These were not crostinis; they were the actual croutons. The pieces were awkward to eat and, in my opinion, could even be a choking hazard because they are not cut into manageable bite-sized pieces. I'm not sure what is going on, but shoppers should be very careful and check expiration dates closely before purchasing items from the produce/refrigerated section. I also hope the crouton issue is addressed, because Major Market has been a beloved store for our family for many years.
