I came into Laughing Buddha today to get my nose pierced. I give it 3 stars because it's not the best place, but it's definitely not the worst either. I'll just make it simple and sweet: Pros: I got my nose pierced - nicely, professionally and cleanly My piercer (John) was very informative, friendly and relaxing They've got a huge selection of jewelry The prices are reasonably reasonable Cons: The service could use a little bit of help. I had to greet myself. Then I stood around without being told what I should do next (haha). After my piercing I went to go pay and was given my receipt and then the guy just walked away without saying anything to me (haha). The aftercare pamphlet should be specific to what type of piercing you got and not just a generalization of piercings. If you want something pierced, get pierced by John and be assertive. This place will get the job done (for piercings, I have no experience with the tattooing here), but it's no spa - you won't be treated like a celebrity. read more

This place gets 4 stars because of 1) The huge jewelry selection 2) The piercer who stretched my lobes was totally cool 3) Aaron ROCKS who did my tattoos. I can't give this place 5 stars because 1) The service could be a bit better. There have been plenty of times when I have walked in and standed at the counter while being completely ignored while the employees chit chat. I realize though that this is common in tattoo/piercing shops. 2) When I first went in to get my tattoo with one of the girls there I thought she was completely rude and unproffessional. Thank god Aaron was there!! Or I would of never walked back into that place. When you actually do get service here the people are fairly friendly and cool. Ok so I've heard good things about this place, but that doesn't mean it was true. I walked in there today looking for some sweet new gauges, so I ask someone woking there. The first thing he said to me was "well you should go to a mechanic or somewhere they sell car parts" haha, whatever. He still didn't answer me. So then I walked around a little bit and eventually found the bargin bin or whatever. While I was looking, the guy who "helped" me made his way over to the telephone and started calling places to find a new place to live or something. What? really? So I had another question and found someone else to ask cause the other guy was on the phone. I asked him where the wood gauges were and he pointed to the other side of the store without even speaking to me. Wow. So I bought my 10 dollar gauges and booked it out of there. I recently had my ears re-pierced - just a super basic piercing, but I tend to get infections easily and often so I've been hesitant to go back for more. I was really happy with the service at Laughing Buddha - I didn't feel judged for going to a "tattoo parlor" for a basic piercing, and all the staff were friendly. They asked some questions (are you sure the holes are closed, how long has it been since you've worn jewelry, etc) that illustrated that they are thorough and that they care. Unlike the last couple times I got my ears pierced, I was told NOT to soak, rinse, or otherwise mess with my new piercings unless they were irritated, and so far so good - I like easy, and I like that they gave me the piercer's card just in case I do have any questions or trouble not answered on the aftercare card. Piercing was efficient and quick - they accept walk-ins and the lady on the phone advised I come in earlier in the day rather than later to avoid a line, which worked like a charm. If ever I need another piercing, I'd come back - even if it is a bit pricier than a couple of the other shops I was considering going to. read more

Gustavo! Tattoo! I've been wanting a greek word on my foot for a really long time. When the opportunity presented itself (a friend I'm visiting in Seattle asked if I wanted one), I jumped on it. J brought me to Laughing Buddha because all HER friends got theirs done there and loved it. We made an appointment for a consultation and over the phone, I asked if the design was easy enough, if I could just get the tattoo done then. He said sure. I showed up and Gustavo came out. I showed him my picture but I wanted it smaller. He took about 4 copies until it was the size I wanted it to be. He said he could give me the tattoo then and gave me a reasonable quote. Then he set up his space and I went in. He was super patient because I made him readjust the temporary ink about 6 times (he had to go back and print out a new carbon sheet thing). He was SO nice about it.. and he should be - because it IS permanent. Then I sat and held J's hand while Gustavo went to work. There was good music playing and Gustavo knew what he was doing. Even though it was on my foot (which is supposed to be painful), it felt fine. We had some small conversations and I could tell he was super careful - going back and touching up certain areas. He told me touch-ups were free and recommended aquaphor for my new bebe. Also gave me a little sheet with care tips. Honestly, it was such a positive experience. I'd recommend him to anyone who wants one. Also, this place is super legit. While I was here, I noticed them giving advice and of course, making sure age limits and such were enforced. A really professional, clean, and artsy place. It's been about 3 days.. and there's no inflammation or discomfort or anything surrounding my new tattoo. I'm so satisfied! read more

Very Kool Vibe Here!! Went in for a nostril piercing and was treated quite well by the staff. I was made to feel comfortable and time was taken to ensure I made the right decisions for aesthetics, fit, comfort, and style. I normally don't write reviews, being a service industry worker myself, but I am so disappointed with the outcome of my services here. I got a double helix piercing on July 29th, and my total was over or around $300 for very small pieces. I didn't mind paying that amount considering all of the great reviews I've heard, and I will almost always pay more for piercings and/or tattoos knowing they're credible and professional. A month later one of the piercings had already fallen out, and when I called I was told I would have to pay for a new piercing and a new piece of jewelry to put in at full price. I decided to go elsewhere, and got a new piece put in that has stayed and already healed quicker than the last. And now today, the second piercing has now fallen out. I'm so disappointed by the amount of money I spent here only to have BOTH piercings fall out without even being fully healed, and with the lack of customer service I received when I called to let them know. I was expecting 5 star customer service and was treated like it was no big deal that BOTH my piercings had fallen out within 2 months, and that I should have expected to pay for all of it again, at full price. Laughing Buddha has been a Seattle institution for years and years, and for good reason: They're great! I just had my earlobes re-pierced by Lil' John for the first time since I'd originally had them done over 20 years ago (at the mall, even!). We went directly in with a 6 gauge plug, because I'm planning to stretch to a 1/2" eventually, and I was pleasantly surprised to be encouraged to start with a larger gauge to begin with so I could save both time & money. How nice is that of them? Piercer Lil' John was every inch the professional, with a very calm, direct, pleasant demeanor, and both he and the nice guy who greeted me at the counter (whose name I forgot to get - long, dark hair) were great at answering all my questions, and were both very friendly - no attitude whatsoever - and very knowledgeable about their craft. I was particularly impressed with the attention that was paid to the cleanliness and sterility of both my jewelry and my ears themselves prior to the procedure. Not only were the plugs and implements autoclaved, but autoclaved with a proof-of-sterility indicator that I got to keep, even. nifty! Also, the shop & piercing room were lovely. Sort of dark & quiet. Very relaxing and peaceful. And the piercing room itself was private, so I didn't feel like I had to put on a show for passers-by. Like I said, these guys know what they're doing, and I'll most certainly be going back to them for all my piercing needs. So should you! read more

I had always wanted to get some ink done here, and it didn't dissapoint when I visited a few months back. My choice? A nice multi-colored rose tattoo on the left side of my neck, in memory of my child. The artist? Cain. Who is simply amazing. He didn't hesitate to let me know that a neck tattoo is a lot more obvious than other areas of the body. Then, seeing that I have my knuckles done already, he realized that I wasn't someone who really cared about "visibility" or "hiding" my tattoos. I gave him time to draw up my idea, and when I got back together with him to view the piece, it was perfect. I got tattooed to The Beatles and Ben Harper. He was methodical, yet quite un-painful. As far as the healing process, I was worried that the neck might be difficult to heal, with all the movement that it goest through. I've never had a tattoo heal better than his. Absolutely bare-minimal scabbing, and most of the tattoo just flaked off. The color pops incredibly, the detail is consistent, and he was genuinely excited to do it, as well as to see it months later. I'm going to have him finish up my neck in the next few months, and I'm sure he will do another fine job. The next piece? A pair of haircutting shears with ninja blades, cutting into my hairline. I've been going to Laughing Buddha for quite a while now. They have a really great selection of jewelry and their employees are super helpful. Everyone there is really passionate about what they do and provide a comfortable environment for newbs to the tattoo/piercing world. I had my first tattoo done by Thomas Wade which was a really great experience. I was nervous but he kept me laughing and relaxed, also I'm very happy with the finished product. I intend to continue seeing him for future work that I want done. John D. did my septum. I really respect the work he's done and am proud to say that he's pierced me. He's very professional and just a really awesome guy to get to talk with. I've gotten all of my (extensive) ink done at Laughing Buddha -- mostly by Alexis. The store is clean, sanitary practices are closely followed, the staff is talented and booking appointments is straightforward. Alexis does all of my black work (all my tattoos are solid black), and is fantastic at it. Even after several years, the careful layers of black ink she laid down still look fresh and solid and sharp. She's fun to talk with, too -- time flies by. From what I've seen of her other work (with colors), she's very talented. My very first tattoos at Laughing Buddha were done by an employee (not Alexis) who didn't take the work very seriously and I ended up getting it re-inked only a few months later as it had already begun to fade and turn patchy. Aside from that isolated experience, my subsequent half-dozen visits have all gone very well. Professional, talented, courteous staff. A great place to get your ink done. read more

My (at the time) 19 year old sister requested ear-piercing (one hole each ear) for Festivus last year. She put off ear-piercing partially because she's pretty conservative, partially because our mom doesn't have it done, and partially because she was playing some pretty hard-core soccer pre-college. After a semester of college, she mellowed a bit, wasn't playing soccer every day, wasn't as concerned about what our mom thought, and decided that ear piercing wasn't going to make her go to hell. I know that "friends don't let friends pierce with guns" so my gift to her was a certificate to get her ears done at the Laughing Buddha. She was excited and asked me to accompany her so shortly after Festivus we made an appointment. As we sat on the couch waiting for our artist to finish here eyes were the size of saucers. People covered in tattoos, stretched lobes, getting pierced - WHERE? OMG! One artist (who I guessed off the spot to be her guy) had his lobes stretched so that they swung from to and fro when he turned his head quickly (like a ponytail on a cheerleader). She whispered to me, "I hope I don't have to be with him, that is scary!". I smirked and suggested that she keep an open mind. John AKA Lobe Dude called her name and she reluctantly got up and picked out her jewelry (plain silver barbells which look as much like studs as possible) and followed him down the hall - looking much like a deer in headlights. John lead us to a pristinely clean room explained what he was going to do and used universal precautions. He had her do lots of breathing and was very kind and sweet to my obviously nervous sister. While he was doing the deed, we talked a lot about his certifications (which are many) and his experience (over twenty years) and how he started in the biz (long interesting story) and where he grew up (NYC, I think - its been a while). In a few minutes he was finished and had explained the after-care instructions and given her lots of the cleaning stuff. She was happy and relatively pain free. I came to Laughing Buddha after doing a ton of research and hearing great things about their staff. I saw Colin for a double tongue piercing. It's not a super uncommon piercing but I had been having a hard time finding someone who had done them before, and he had. There was a bit of wait since I was walking in, but it was well worth it. The front desk staff were very friendly and willing to answer any questions. They use an autoclave which is awesome, and they have you take steps to ensure that you're aware the tools/jewelry to be used on you has been autoclaved. Colin is very thorough with explaining each step of the process, and is very good at making you feel at ease about the whole thing. I'm not new to piercings but I was especially nervous about this one, and he made me feel much better about the situation. The process itself was quick, and while the pain was more or less what I expected, it wasn't drawn out in any way. I mean, I had two large ass needles go through my tongue, it's going to hurt, but I recognize that it could have hurt more. When I came in to have my jewelry changed to shorter bars, Colin did a lovely job of that. But unfortunately my tongue was grumpy and I had to come back in for a slightly longer set of bars. That time when I came in, Colin was off but John was there and he did an equally wonderful job. I would absolutely recommend Laughing Buddha, you'll have a wonderful experience. read more

I went on a whim to get my rook and conch pierced. I've been thinking about it for a while but I didn't go with the intention of having it done right there. The woman showing me the jewelry was super nice and patient with all my questions, even the ones that didn't pertain to my particular piercing. I loved the jewelry that I could pick from, the price was very reasonable so I decided to just do it. I didn't have to wait long at all and before I knew it I was laying on the table with my ear disinfected. The guy doing the piercings was also very nice, friendly and patient in answering (and repeating) my questions. I was a bit nervous cause I was there by myself but he was very nice and made sure I understood the healing process and what I had to do (and especially not do) for it to heal properly. Everything was done in a sterile environment and I felt safe and taken care of. I would absolutely recommend going here for a piercing because they have really great pieces and their jewelry selection is also pretty rad. I had my nostril pierced last night by Ruben. Hands down this guy is the best. He is very friendly, will play whatever music you like while getting your piercing, he is relaxed and very knowledgeable. I had never had my nose pierced before and Ruben never made me nervous and had the whole thing over quickly. I went to Laughing Buddha to get my ears pierced. Just plain earlobe piercing, nothing special. I've had my ears pierced twice before but I've had to let both of them close up because they got infected before (from different piercing places) so I wanted to go somewhere that knew what they were doing and could handle the scar tissue. Given I felt a little silly getting my ears pierced at 23, but whatever. John did my piercing in the end. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Nobody made me feel out of place for getting such a simple thing. The piercing was pretty much painless, just a tiny pinch. My ears have healed great and I don't really have any problems with them this time around. Right after the piercing my ears weren't even that red or sore. The only time anything really hurt was when I'd catch my earring on a shirt or in my hair or something. I would highly recommend this place for any piercing you want done. They are clean, willing to work with you, and incredibly professional about what they do. read more

I am utterly impressed with this shop, especially Lisa!!! I have gone here to get piercings as far back as 2001 and have always been treated well. I have a back piece and another half sleeve as well as many other tattoos, but wanted to explore a different artist after receiving a coupon through Amazon Local. After taking a look at some portfolios, I chose Lisa and I couldn't be happier to have found her! She has the kind of technique that my skin responds well to. I just had a half sleeve outline session with Lisa and I am blown away at her work. I'm not sure if it's the coil machine that she uses, the amount of needles or if she has a gifted hand in combination of her artistic abilities... or all of the above. Her line work is the cleanest I've seen and I am healing quickly in comparison to other outlines that I've gotten, which is something that I usually have troubles with. I HIGHLY recommend Lisa. She is an artist that is very talented and has amazing energy. She is worth the time and money because she is passionate about what she does. I was looking to redo my nose piercing that I had lost years ago, and I'm very glad that I found this place on Yelp as they take walk-ins (I was feeling spontaneous) and their selections were great and their ratings were high. The piercer who did mine did a fabulous job, he was very relaxing and jovial in his manner and it made the experience quite more enjoyable than my first time (in the 90's back when I was a young pup of 19). I was able to find just the right size and color for what I was looking for, and for my next piercing I'm definitely going back. However, I don't believe this location did tattoos, it seemed like it was solely for piercings, and their sister shop is Damask Tattoos and they are up on Queen Anne across the street from the 5 Spot and do an absolutely amazing job. read more

Good shop with a huge selection. Some really good piercers but have never had work done myself only taken my GF to get her ears pierced. John B walked her through it like the pro he is and made her very comfortable and quickly. I enjoy browsing the jewelry for my own ears and have found some of my fav earrings there. The prices are nothing to shy away from and the bargain bin/sale case can contain some treasures if you look long enough. I just picked up another pair of 7/16 bone plugs for only $15!! Even at $40 for most jewelry that size I can afford to grow my collection and still have money left in my pocket. Staff is always friendly and has been helpful when I had questions about stepping up to my current size. Saved me some time and trouble and I like that! I don't see a reason to not shop there. This is my go-to shop for piercings. I've gone elsewhere and I have never received better than I have from here. The shop is clean, the staff is knowledgeable not only with the easiest, most effective way to keep your piercing clean, but they also know many homeopathic remedies to alleviate the post piercing pain and anything other concerns that might come up. Anyone who has had a dermal piercing done knows the rejection rate is high and the life expectancy of the piercing is extremely short; the staff here has given some amazing advice as to how to handle them and when they have flare ups, so I have to give them so much credit for being so helpful with that. As for tattoos, I've also gone to other shops in the area and have not found more willing and kind people than I have at Laughing Buddha. I have a scar on my back that's about 4 inches long and almost an inch wide, and had been feeling self-conscious, wanting to mask it. I had gone to countless shops and talked to a number of artists how turned me away because they feared me being dissatisfied with the results because scars are unpredictable when it comes to holding ink. That was until I met Thomas. He was honest with me that he too couldn't predict how my scar would handle ink, but he wasn't afraid to work with it, weather it was actually trying to cover it, or working around it or incorporating it in the design. That meant a lot to me considering all of the other discouragements. Thomas has worked with me to create a design I love and I'm excited to show off. read more

She did an incredible job on my wrist tattoo and a year later it still looks perfect & if I ever plan to get work done again, I would definitely go back to Nina. Her prices were also very reasonable. I went here to get jewelry changed out and had a terrible experience. First, when I told them my budget for a new piece they were quite judgmental. They have a lot of high quality jewelry and I understand that quality isn't cheap, but they shouldn't shame customers who come in with a modest budget. Not everyone is looking for diamonds or very expensive jewelry I just wanted a piece under $100. Second, I came in because I was having a lot of problems with an old piercing. To be clear, the piercing was not done here so they are absolutely not responsible for the outcome of my piercing. However, I was in pain and looking for relief. Thankfully the piece they put in allowed my piercing to heal so I am happy about that. The worst part was that I found out from overhearing the piercer talking badly about me to three other employees that my piercing was originally done with improper jewelry and that's why it was so painful. I would have really appreciated being told this information directly as I did not know what was causing my pain. I also found it incredibly unprofessional for the piercer to talk about me before I had even left, I was not even a couple feet away from where they were talking.
