Solid little Mexican restaurant in a small town with limited culinary options. La Unica is clean and the food is very affordable. Staff was also nice and bilingual, a nice perk. I got a burrito with a side of guacamole, as well as an horchata. Everything was fresh and tasty, and I enjoyed that the horchata was not overly sweet, just right. For starters the chips tasted like they were fried in very old oil.. couldn't get pass the smell of them. Ordered the Flauta platter and same thing. flautas were fried in the same old oil with the same smell. One positive side were the beans. They were very good. read more

I wondered what "The Best Mexican Food in Lufkin was." This place is good! The prices are great. I ordered chilaquiles although it wasn't on the menu. They brought out delicious housemade chips and salsa while I waited. The place was legit too-- the side chips even had a tiny potato spring in it. My breakfast was delicious. There were sadly no eggs, but the chips, beautifully crispy hashbrowns, well seasoned beans and hot corn tortillas were an AMAZING breakfast. 10/10 would definitely return. read more

Also good chips and fantastic hot sauce delivered without having to ask! They have Coke Zero on the server yourself beverage dispenser with the syrup turned up high for a rich glass of the nectar of the gods! The tamales are huge and always wrapped perfectly and moist! Better be hungry because they are really big and worth every penny! By a dozed to take home and freeze for lunch all week! Traveling through Lufkin TX and found this place on Yelp. The aromas from the kitchen were inviting as soon as you walk through the door. Grabbed a couple of carnitas, bean and cheese burritos. The meat was flavorful. I like the way they grill the tortilla to give it that little bit of crisp to compliment the rest of the homemade soft goodness. I will say.... the hot sauce lives up to its name! Whew! I doused the first one and got a surprise! It's got a good flavor but it's hot. Good thing I got a Mexican Coke to go with this. If you don't read any further, just remember to order tamales. Stopped in for lunch and we ordered a fajitadilla and a combo plate. Lots of local families eating Sunday lunch. Good chips and salsa are my first test and a trio was served up of spicy green, spicy red, and pico along with a dish of hot and crispy chips, so this boded well. Had to stop myself from pigging out on them and save room for my entrée. Glad I did. There's bacon in them beans, oh yes. Salty and meaty beans of yum. The tamale had an excellent masa that was seasoned beautifully and was very moist. The substantial shredded pork filling was deeply satisfying. A really great bite. The beef street taco was highly seasoned and the squeeze of lime brought it to life. I was too full to eat my burrito. The fajitadilla that Hubs ate was more like a flat griddled burrito with beans, cheese, and fajita beef, although it was quesadilla shaped. Not used to refried beans in a quesadilla. It was good but maybe not as as great as the promise. The only criticism I have overall is the salt level in many of the dishes. Every dish pushes the salt envelope and is almost too salty. The cooks would do well to pull back a tad on the salt. read more

Been wanting to try this place! But it let me down! The took a very long time to 4 tacos out Bc that's all I oder and I asked for tripa and barbacoa! The tripa was cold and really to chew on tha barbacoa tasted really weird and it was dry! I give there salsa a 8 that's the only thing I liked!It was also really expensive I think for 7 tacos and sodas was $40 maybe I'll have better luck next time read more
