I came here on Monday, to get my shirt sewed together due to a hole in the armpit area and it was done in 30 min. The lady working there (not sure if it was Laura herself) did a great job ! I've used this place a couple times and I have no complaints about the quality of the work. However, I have noticed that the place is not always open during posted hours. Right now I have a pair of pants there which were supposed to be ready last Saturday. I went to get them during shop hours on Saturday and they were closed, no sign on the door, nothing. I went again on Sunday, again during shop hours, and same thing. And then again today, same story. I went during shop hours when they were supposed to be open and they were not, with no note on the door, no explanation. Who knows when I will get my pants back. Not professional at all. read more

The proprietress did a fantastic, professional job altering a total of six (6) leather jackets that were in need of having the sleeves shortened-two of which had the elasticized band you find on "bomber" style jackets, and four (4) that required the cuff (with either snap or button style closure) to be first removed, and then reattached after excess sleeving material had been removed. The work/stitching was top notch, and on one of the jackets, I was certainly surprised to see that she had done an expert job correcting a rather tacky job the manufacturer had called "finished" regarding leaving exposed lining work on the cuff hem-she was able to close up the area utilizing the suede material as should have been done. I did not ask for this to be done, but boy was I pleased to see the final product. I had no problem paying $60.56 four times and $38.50 twice as I recognize the labor-intensive and skillful nature of the work and what is the point of wearing $499 retail jackets if they don't show well? The proprietress is very pleasant, and an example of timeliness was dropping two jackets off on a Tuesday and picking them up seven days later. I recommend Laura's and will be back should I go on another leather jacket buying binge! read more

I thought the team did a great job altering my rehearsal dinner dress. They were able to resolve the sleeve issues I was having and made a few very thoughtful recommendations. Upon paying, I was a little surprised by the price but without prompting it was itemized and with itemization it seemed reasonable - it just adds up! Words cannot express how utterly disappointed I am in the services I received. Despite the questionable reviews I found online, I chose to trust the few outstanding reviews that commended the "professional service" that customers received at this business. What a mistake! I brought in 3 pieces of clothing to be altered: 2 jeans and 1 dress. One pair of jeans needed to be brought in at the waist, the other pair needed to be hemmed and tapered for a slightly more fitted look. The dress just needed to be brought "up" to fit my shorter body better. The total came out to just over $117 (including tax)! I remember thinking how expensive this seemed to be but a review I had read on Yelp convinced me that "professional service means professional pricing" so I went with it and paid upfront (as required). Laura was also very kind when fitting me so I figured the end products would be amazing! This was a Monday. Fast forward to Thursday (the day alterations should have been completed), I walk in around 1:00 pm and am told by a different woman that they're not done. The more upsetting thing was that by the look of the clothing, she believed that alterations had not even been started! She told me to come back Friday and that they would certainly be done by 1:00 pm the following day. I asked to speak with Laura, the owner, and she said that Laura was not in the shop and that she didn't know when to expect her back. I came back on Friday at 1:30 pm and again, someone different greeted me and said that the jeans had been altered but the dress had not been started on. Really? Two days late now? I tried the jeans on in the store to make sure they were altered correctly and unsurprisingly, one pair did not fit right. The waist had hardly been taken in so it was still the same large, baggy fit that it had originally been in! I asked that I be fitted once more and the jeans to be altered correctly this time. The worker was also very kind and apologized. I was told to come anytime on Saturday to pick up the remaining dress and jeans. At this point, I realized that I would continue to receive unprofessional service. The alterations were mediocre at best and the last pair of jeans that were completed 2 days after the promised date ended up with uneven stitching and back pockets that were different in height (as shown in the photos). The dress was in ok shape but the sleeves had been taken up to create a cinched look, leaving them awkwardly short on my arms. I asked the kind employee for a partial refund for the inconveniences imposed as a result of their untimely service and mediocre job with my clothing. She said she could not do that but would give me a discount the next time I come in. I asked to speak with Laura and again, she was not in the store and the worker did not know when she would be in again. With no guarantee of ever meeting the owner and receiving my money back, I decided to call it a loss and warn future customers. Find an alterations business that is communicative, competent and professional. Do not waste your time and money only to receive your services late and in mediocre shape! I would have been fine paying over $100 for three pieces of clothing IF they had come out amazing in the end but that was not the case. I am never coming back here again. read more

I am thoroughly disappointed by this places business ethic and customer service. I came in for alterations on 4 pairs of Seven Jeans. I requested original hem for $20 per pair ($80 + taxes). I tried on the pants, they did the pinning and at the time, they seemed fine. They did not pin all of the jeans. They only did one pair. I came in to pick them up and did not think it was necessary to try them on. I accept some responsibility for that but when i returned to get them fixed because they are several inches too long, i am told i need to pay another $80. They would not fix their original error. I would not recommend this place to anyone for anything. Look for another option. I will pay whatever it costs to get my jeans hemmed again, but i will not be giving my money to them. read more

Just no! ‼ I read their reviews which weren't great but we only needed 2 patches added to my daughter's taekwondo top. Well they charged $24 and said we can pick it up after 6pm. At 5pm we realized we were caught in grocery shopping and I checked real quick online when they close. .... it said 9pm for Friday. So instead of rushing out the store, we took our time... well we arrived at her store at 7:10 pm. Guess what?! Closed!! There is a tiny note on the very bottom corner of the window, showing open until 7 pm. Nobody is able to see it! Anyways they open at 10 am and my daughter had to test for her yellow belt at 9 am. What a nightmare. We ended up buying a new uniform for $45 because she was not allowed to test without it and the master made a huuuge! exception letting her test without the patches. I was so sad since she was the only one who would have had an academic patch and couldn't even show it. However we went there Saturday after her testing but it was another person in there. I told them what happened and surely she was 'oh so sorry' I asked her to please, give the manager a note that she needs to update her store hours online. Tailors are not new to an emergency or last minute job so I am mad she did not tell us, you can pick it up after 6 but we close at 7 and even more that their online representation is not reliable!! In the end, all we had was two patches to be sewed on and they even messed that easy job up and ruined my daughter's test day! And I am mad at myself cause I thought although I saw the bad reviews it's just a tiny stich job. What should go wrong..... read more

Yes it isn't cheap to get your clothes tailored but I guess if you really don't like paying that much learn how use the sewing machine and do-it-yourself. My wife has taken in for suits and I have a leather jacket that I needed to have fixed. If I could rate this place below a 1 star, I would. I came to shorten the length of my prom dress, but ONLY WANTED A PRICE QUOTE. I did NOT want any work done on it, I strictly wanted to know what kind of money I'd be spending on altering my gown. As soon as I put my gown on and show her how much I wanted cut off, SHE CUTS OFF MY DRESS IMMEDIATELY AND TELLS ME THAT ITS GOING TO BE $60 FOR THAT STUPID ALTERATION I DIDN'T ASK FOR. I wouldn't normally think to look for an alteration shop in the mall but really it's quite convenient for me. I've taken several pairs of jeans in to be hemmed (tip: WASH YOIR JEANS FIRST! A couple times even to avoid shrinkage after alteration) I also had a pair of pants tapered (from close to bell-bottom to a nice boot cut) this was $30 and a little more than most hemming alterations but they did a great job! I've seen 2 different ladies working there, both were difficult to understand at times but in the end everything worked out great so ill say no-complaints and they definitely have my return service! read more

I want to gice minus 000000 zero star I took my wedding dress and charged me the card but I asked for cancelled after 3min After employee ,she said that she cannot guarantee my dress on time. Because i had to have my wedding dress right away i cancelled. Same day, After 5 min, tried to cancel but employee said that I have to comeback when owner gets back on Saturday 1. I had to wait until Saturday. No chance to talk to her any other day 2. Had to drive back for refund and she charged me 25 dollar !!!! Because i cancelled? She was not responsible for my waiting time and very poor and rude attitude. Still charged me $$$$$25 dollar for labor like pinning on my dress(it took 5min to try my dress) but why she wouldn't refund me on the same day I tried to cancel ? What about my waiting time and gas? Today, I brought in my wedding dress in hopes of getting it altered. Spent 30+ mins getting the dress on only to be told that she is unable to alter it because of all of the intricate beading. Ok, why wait 30 mins helping me get into the very elaborate dress only to tell me that she is unable to do it? Why not tell me earlier on? I left very frustrated and upset. Waste of my time. Oh, she also lectured me the entire time while helping me de-lace my dress off... telling me "It cannot be done. Beading will be all messed up and your dress will be ruined. You can do it, but bring it elsewhere. I will not do it for you!" It's like -- OK, I get it... just help me get my dress off and shut up. I do not need a lecture. So I had a pair of dress pants with a gaping hole. Enormous. They were too nice to throw away. So I took them in to get fixed. A bargain price of 10 dollars. They were done the next day and were done well. My only complaint is they seem to be understaffed. There was only one woman working both times that I've been there. Follow-up to 7/29/14 review. My 19 year old re-tried on her dress and we decided to forego any alterations as the need for her dress was only slight (and Laura's wanted to charge $80 for it!). We took the other dress to a different business in Federal Way. They will alter it for $30. In addition, Laura's was going to take the dress in at the center in the back which would effectively move the side seams towards the back of the dress. The new place I went to will take in both sides, as it should be done. read more

Such a bad experience. I brought my prom dress in to get altered because it wouldn't zip up all the way in the back so I just needed her to add some more fabric and it was a little tight in the thighs so I needed her to loosen that. When I brought the dress in she "took measurements" and literally cut open my dress to see if she could make it wider, mind you I didn't even say that I wanted her to do it and she didn't ask me. So, she ended up saying she could fix it and that it would be ready in 3 weeks. Fast forward a little bit and it's the day before I was supposed to pick up my dress and I was at the commons so I thought I'd stop by to see if I could pick it up and then she said "oh it's not ready yet". I was just baffled so I asked when it was going to be ready and she said 5 more days... She had it for almost a month and when I went to go pick up my dress today it was too big!!! I don't know what measurements she took of it ended up being too big... I will never go here again. read more

The only great thing about this place is...it's location!! Otherwise its a crapy business. I was referred to this place by a friend (I should have went my original seamstress). I went in with two dresses. One needed to be hemed and the other one needed to be taking out. Well the young lady that was at the shop during my visit,seemed as if I wasbothering her. She ddidn't ask to assist me in trying on the dresses nor did she explain to me my options. The first dress that needed to be taking out,she looked at the dress and said "oh no,nothing can be done,I can't fix it put on other dress." I was totally bummed it was a $200 dress I got online and I couldn't return it :(. So I put on thr other dress she approaches me and says "to take up 48 dollar,you pay before we do dress." I said ok. She does her measurments and I remove dress. My 6yr old daughter takes the dress to her as I am changing and she snatched the dress from her!!as I am gathering my belongings she says, I can make a corset for the other dress for $150,you go buy materials. I looked at her appalled,trying to figure out what made her change her mind about the first dress,originally she couldn't do anything. I left very upset and disappointed. The following day I went to ADAMS TAILOR AND ALTERATION in Columbia City (the place I planned on going originally) and had a much better experience. The customer service was awesome and guess what,they vould do the impossible...Let the dress out!lol. The seamstress chuckled at my experience at Laura's. If you want quality,respect and an excellent job on your clothing items DO NOT GO TO LAURA's. Adam Tailor is well recognized and they're prices are beyond resonable. read more

I brought in a pair of pants to have the zipper fixed.. Not sure what the gals name was but there was a problem of understanding her a little. I picked up the pants the next day and just quickly looked at it from the outside ..all was looking great, but when I got home to look at the inside..it was not done well..she glued parts if it.. Some of it was already coming apart and the zipper was way too long..plan on taking it back to make sure she corrects this... And hopefully it will be done right this time read more

My daughter and I have used this business several times in the past, with excellent results. They are pretty expensive, but not as expensive at Fit Rite, which is even more so. Both places do very nice work. I recently dropped off a blouse I had purchased for $25. I wanted darts sewn in so that it would be more fitted, plus bring the bottom hem up. She did the pinning, then wrote up the ticket for $50. I guess I wasn't expecting it to be that high. I really did not want to sink $55 (incl tax) into a $25 blouse, but the employee kept pointing out how cute the blouse was and I gave in against my better judgement. All the way home I was mad at myself for being talked into this, and the moment I got in the house, I called and cancelled the work. I was told the job would be cancelled and to come in Saturday when the manager was there to get the refund and pick up my blouse. I went in on the Saturday, she retrieved the blouse, and refunded $30 in cash and kept $25 for a cancellation fee. I reminded her that my daughter and I had been good customers and happy with their work for years, and that if my money was not refunded in full, I would never come back. I would not recommend her to friends, and would leave a negative review on Yelp. She did not seem fazed by this and just kept repeating that it was her policy. She pointed out this policy, which was taped to the counter, but which I certainly had not seen and had not been pointed out to me in the original transaction. We parted ways politely and when I got home, I called Chase Bank to dispute the charge. They took my info and refunded the balance, which was $25. So that brings me here: Forewarned is forearmed: Be 100% positive when you leave that you are not going to change your mind, and put it on your bank card, don't pay cash or write a check. I've heard there is a good, affordable alteration shop in the vicinity of Trader Joe's, so that's where I'll be going from now on. read more
