I was referred to Dr Frakes by my OBGYN Oncology surgeon. I really liked her direct, no BS attitude from the beginning. My cancer had gone through some unexpected changes and I felt that Dr Frakes did not skip a beat, aggressively pursuing the right treatment. I chose Dr Frakes as my Oncologist after referrals from 2 different Surgeons, a primary care doctor, my OB, and other patients of hers. She is clearly well respected! After my first consult with her she explained to me how & why she likes to be overly thorough & exactly what to expect with my treatment plan, etc.. she gave me a huge hug that day & it was everything I needed. She is incredibly knowledgeable & not afraid to reach out to other oncologists for opinions when needed. Her brain is constantly in 'problem solving' mode and it's very obvious that her patients are her main priority. She is very direct and to the point, but explains things very well with a calming demeanor. She is everything a cancer patient needs. I would refer Dr Frakes ONE MILLION times over to anyone who needs an oncologist. She really is the best! Dr. Frakes saved my wife's life. My wife was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2014. We were scared and more than a bit clueless. There was so much information (and misinformation) to weed through. It was daunting, and frightening. The statistics were bleak. Dr. Frakes explained what the test results meant, what the treatment options were, and not to get bogged down in the (often outdated) statistics. She told us that the treatment would consist of chemo, surgery, and radiation, and broke down the advantages and disadvantages of the order in which the treatment / procedures were undertaken. It was a bumpy road, unquestionably, but Dr. Frakes and her amazing team were there for us and have been there for us ever since the first call to her office. Dr. Frakes runs an amazing practice, we are forever indebted to her and her team. read more

Extremely rude, she makes you feel like a burden in the room, as I was still talking she stands up to leave. Probably spent 5 mins with me, if that. I got to mention her staff was great, nurse was super sweet and discussed the issues and concerns. But I would not recommend this doctor, no compassion for human beings. read more

After my mother in law went to the ER for pain management she was scolded by Dr Frakes. Her exact words were: "what makes you think you can go to the ER for pain? Horrible doctor to work with. Never available to talk to the family and poor about returning our call. Rude arrogant doctor with no compassion for cancer patient or worried family. This is not what you need when you are coping with a loved ones illness. Now that my mother in law is deceased we are hounded by C-Care for payment. We are struggling with the insurance to pay for her care. The immuncare cost a fortune and her cancer spread to her lungs and she passed in November. read more

Dr Laurie Frakes saved my life. After being diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, Dr Frakes squeezed me in the next day and no joke spent over an hour with me defining, explaining, consoling me. She wrote detailed notes, drew diagrams, and handed me tissues. She helped me find other specialists, she kept me on her radar every single day while I was working through some serious treatment and side effects, and she made sure her staff took care of me too. 5 year later, in remission, she still checks on me. She listens to all of my crazy (endless) thoughts and concerns, and she always responds thoughtfully. She comes from and with science, she is direct with facts, data, and truths. But she is also kind, and funny, and really has a fantastic wardrobe (I'm not kidding.) She is a very busy doctor, but I never feel like she is too busy for me. When I do not need her urgently, I am happy to wait my turn. Also - her Med Asst Lenzi and her RN Jane walk somewhere along the line between saint and hero. Dr Frakes has taken care of me through the diagnosis, work up and treatment of an aggressive malignancy. Now I see her in follow ups and to review the labs and scans. It is because I have an absolute trust and confidence in her knowledge, care and attendance to details, that I do not worry or fear about my care. Dr Frakes, not only got my daughter through Stage 3 breast cancer, she also got me through at same time after sending us to City of Hope where I was told to get bi-annual MRI which discovered mine 2 wks after a clear mammogram. Had it not for her I would have been another year before discovered with a more critical diagnosis. We found out we have Chek 2 genetic mutation which is not as well known as Braca but less several. If you have cancer in your family history - get tested. Dr Frakes was critical in gently, but aggressively, walking us through successful care plans individualized for both of us, and continues regularly. She is a bright and serious advocate and caregiver, leaving no stone unturned, for which we are thankful. read more

Dr Frakes is without question the worst doctor I have ever seen. I came in with so much pain in my bones and Joints three weeks after taking Zometa. This is a drug given to breast cancer patients after treatment. She said that my pain could not be from Zometa and that it usually lasts two to four days at the most. She was dismissive and condescending in her tone and told me to see someone about my neck if that was hurting me most. I said that I couldn't imagine this from anything but his drug and she said she never heard of pain from Zometa lasting this long . I went home and called my son in law who is a doctor at Scripps. He said there was so much written about the effects of Zometa as being severe and lasting not just for weeks but for months! I got a new Oncologist and when I told him of Dr Frakes stating she had never had a patient with this long term pain he told me he completely disagreed and that he had just admitted a patient to the hospital who had severe pain and problems with Zometa. Dr Frakes is not the Oncologist to see if you want accuracy, compassion, or a doctor who is flexible enough to examine a situation the may be different from her past experience. Why didn't she say "This is not my usual experience, I will look into this." Perhaps check with a colleague? I recommend not seeing this doctor, she is not to be trusted and certainly doesn't deserve the respect of any patient. read more

Terrible communications. I received a referral to Dr. Frakes, and tried for several weeks to make an appointment as a new patient. I ALWAYS got an answer machine, and they NEVER got back to me after several repeated tries. Dr. Frakes needs to stop claiming that she accepts new patients, because they are apparently a very low priority. I finally asked my clinic to provide a new referral because I have lost too much time futzing around with leaving messages with their office which were not returned. It's a long complicated story, but the bottom line is that it is very difficult to talk to anyone in this office to make an appointment as a new patient. Anissa finally sent me an email today, May 22, 2019, but it's too late now. I don't want to fool around with this office any further. It's been too frustrating, and frankly, it is making me a little crazy. read more

My (super awesome) GP recommended and referred me to Dr Frakes after I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I was a bit nervous and not sure what to expect, but was very pleasantly surprised at the amount of time Dr Frakes spent with me - writing out easy to understand notes for me to keep about my current diagnosis and the possible treatments and plan that I should expect moving forward. She was patient with all of my questions and her team (Daisy!!!) was quick to help me schedule all of tests and scans needed AND follow up when we had a hard time getting a hold of one office for scheduling. I had one short negative experience when I called the general office line/front desk to ask about test results and the girl who answered wasn't very pleasant on the phone (although I have been in the waiting room where there are some crazies driving the front desk staff nuts so I had to let that one time go), but as soon as they transferred me back to Dr Frakes staff they were very friendly and helpful - double checking to see if any results had come in (they hadn't yet) and offering me reassurance and scheduling a time later that week to come in and review the expected test results in person. My surgeon, radiologist and Dr Frakes (medical oncologist) have been an incredible support team for me and communicate with each other on a regular basis about my ongoing care. I would highly recommend Dr Frakes and her team to anyone that is looking for a competent, straight forward and proactive Medical Oncologist. read more

When I met Dr. Frakes, I gained a confidence that lasted through my entire treatment. Landing in the hands of Dr. Frakes and the incredible network of doctors she aligns with, I felt confident and grateful through tests, surgeries, and chemotherapy treatment. Of course I was scared, but every time my family and I met with Dr. Frakes we gained so much knowledge and understood the necessary next steps. Dr. Frakes has been a real life saver. Having been diagnosed with a very unusual stage IV Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma she did the research necessary to provide me with a special regimen that has me in complete remission for over two years. She is not afraid to think "outside the box" and consult her peers if necessary. The nurses in her chemo. room are universally kind and competent and the atmosphere unbelievably upbeat given what we are all going through. In response to the reviewer who complained about her walking out of a consult, I would point out that this is a treatment facility as well as a consulting office. Occasionally patients have unexpected reactions to one drug or another. If that happened to me, I would not want to be told that the Dr. is too busy in a consultation to handle the situation. read more
