Nice experience: the books are plentiful and very reasonably priced! The mystery grab bags of books are a super cool idea.

I was looking forward to shopping here but found out that the business is actually closed on Sundays. This needs to be updated on this page

    Do they purchase used books?

In a way,you turn them in for store credit. I highly recommend this store. The owner is an exceptional lady,I've been going here for a very long time. It's one of my happy places.

Hard to say anything that hasn't been said. This place is way bigger than most libraries and the…read morelargest independent bookstore in US. Maps are key to finding anything, sadly no used board games. The kids section is great for how to draw books, love used books stocked next to new. The catalogue computers (just like a library) were helpful - told you both what section, shelf to find your both, and number of both new and used copies available which is fantastic (just make sure to write down more then section number if that exists, it still took a while to find a specific book - a obtuse and somewhat arbitrary categorization (ie a book we wanted was under mental games) Their summer reading program was amazing for $5 coupon to be used on purchase of anything.

The Burnside location takes up an entire city block and has SO many different sections. There are new and used books, gifts, and basically every genre and random little category you can think of. The different rooms even have their own names, and the whole place feels like a giant book maze. You could easily spend hours just wandering around. I loved browsing through everything. Even when I wasn't looking for anything specific, I kept finding things that caught my attention. The color-coded sections and maps definitely helped because otherwise I probably would have just gotten lost somewhere in the shelves and never been seen again. Definitely one of those Portland places I'd recommend even if you're not a huge book person. It's just really fun to walk around and explore, and I can totally see why Powell's is such an iconic part of Portland.

I still love going in here and sitting to read a good book. The store has lots of lounge areas to…read moredo that. Everything is well organized and the popular title books are located right as you walk in so you don't miss it. I noticed recently they have a decent sized records selection and DVD's to browse so I will be back to add to my collection. The line hasn't been terribly long to wait in and customer service has been pleasant. Things are more expensive than some other stores but honestly I enjoy having to walk around and explore the little treasures here. I always find something new that catches my eye I was recently in here browsing while my phone was being repaired. They had a fun section of books that were wrapped in paper as a mystery buy. I loved that they're doing this so I bought two! Have no idea if the books are good but I don't care, it was a fun purchase. Parking in front is hard to come by but if you park far, it is a nice walk on a good weathered day.

I love their album selection and will frequently find items in stock that are not in stock at other Barnes and Nobles. Most recently in the last month I have been to two special release events (ATEEZ and Stray Kids) and they have done a phenomenal job organizing and running both events! I also appreciate the discounted prices on some items. They truly do a great job making it a fun and safe environment for these special events
