I can't go to my local one due to the crowds. This is pretty straightforward with quite a few farm vendors. I was especially delighted with the farm selling apples because most of the offerings you cannot get in a store. I do get that the produce is top notch, however, you will definitely feel this in your wallet if you are on a budget. They do have a normal $20 for $40 deal for SNAP recipients (you take $20 on your SNAP card and receive $40 in tokens you can use for produce) BUT, there was a special deal for this week receiving $20 for only $1 on your SNAP card plus as senator was giving out an additional $25. Most of the vegetables I bought were 3 x the amount I would have paid at grocery store. Also there is the time to consider. I highly recommend a Farmers Market, especially this one, but if you are on a tight budget, I feel like you would want to spend your money more effectively. There were several very interesting looking vendors, including a person who makes lanterns out of old propane tanks. How fun! There were also two different hot food vendors - one with mini donuts and the other with tacos... seriously what else would you need??? The parking situation is good and bad. I was able to get a spot really close to the entrance but all the ADA spaces were taken. I just happened to arrive when someone up front was leaving. The entrance does have a little makeshift ramp but be patient, because it is how everyone goes in. So I found it awkward as people like to stand by entrances of things making it potentially challenging.

Their sections are well organized and the staff know where things are on the shelves. They have a large selection of fiction, nonfiction, then specialty sections. They have a nice children's area with a young reader engrossed in a book. They have the little table and chairs. They are up to date with a graphic novel section. I stopped in for a new book in high demand. As in sold out online, at Barnes and Noble, at Powells, and with a 6 month wait for the audio book at the library! In its first day, the book sold 150,000 copies, and by day three, it is, for now, a rare book. Annie Bloom's had it! Annie Bloom's is in a pedestrian-oriented neighborhood. So you can bring your book to nice bars and restaurants, dives, cafes, pizza shops, sandwiches and beer/wine at John's, the Multnomah Art Center, and gift shops, or book shop after those. Annie Bloom's is an approachable bookshop which has what others do not.

While some libraries have little stores inside their…read morebranches, some of the larger "Friends" groups operate separate retail outlets for their discarded and donated books. Luckily, Portland has a wonderful reading community that operates Rose City Reads. I actually found out about this location from a volunteer at the store in the Main library. Located in a strip mall, this location is out in the northeast, an area with few bookstores. Each time I've ventured in, there are plenty of other patrons roaming the stacks. And because this location is run by caring volunteers, it's always well organized with clearly labeled shelves. About half of the books are library discards, while the rest are community donations. And most everything is less than $5, so there are plenty of deals to be had.
