There is a lot of romance, fiction, etc., but plenty of classic texts, travel writing, and history. For example, I bought an American history book, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, a Plato book, and a couple more. My dad and I got 8 books all together for $44. Pretty nice! They also offer trade in credit AND if you bring cans/bottles in they offer additional discount (10-15% I think) on top of the 1/2 prices. Highly recommend supporting.

She is a major book lover, is extremely knowledgeable and has the best organization system for her inventory. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she has areas within the store for us. I love knowing where I can find an array of queer books by genre, including a small selection of new books. Vast majority of the inventory is used and the prices are extremely reasonable. I can see why customers are loyal to this store. I was so impressed, I bought a few books and also signed onto be a monthly member. This helps ensure that we keep these unique small businesses in business. I'm putting my money where my mouth is and supporting them. It's a trek for me but it's my new book home and I highly recommend them. Friendly staff, easy parking and very reasonable prices! If you love books, you will love this place!

Their sections are well organized and the staff know where things are on the shelves. They have a large selection of fiction, nonfiction, then specialty sections. They have a nice children's area with a young reader engrossed in a book. They have the little table and chairs. They are up to date with a graphic novel section. I stopped in for a new book in high demand. As in sold out online, at Barnes and Noble, at Powells, and with a 6 month wait for the audio book at the library! In its first day, the book sold 150,000 copies, and by day three, it is, for now, a rare book. Annie Bloom's had it! Annie Bloom's is in a pedestrian-oriented neighborhood. So you can bring your book to nice bars and restaurants, dives, cafes, pizza shops, sandwiches and beer/wine at John's, the Multnomah Art Center, and gift shops, or book shop after those. Annie Bloom's is an approachable bookshop which has what others do not.

Studies say Z and Alpha are moving away from drinking and clubs. I know of at least half a dozen microcinemas with a dozen to about 4 dozen seats. Most of them are free. They pack out events. Word Virus does a microcinema, has readings, has art shows, and has other events in their small mezzanine space. In the store they have art, theater, and music books. Art criticism. They also have a good stock of philosophy - good books for your thesis. Think a smaller City Lights https://www.yelp.com/biz/city-lights-san-francisco-2. In the olden days, Powell's had section employee-managers. They would inventory and stock as small as 20' feet of shelves dedicated to a topic. They did the research on new books and ordered them. They priced the used books. If you had a question or sought a recommendation, the section employees were a goldmine. I mined those curated-by-humans shelves for my collection. In my view, those employees could have supported the online business with NY Review of Books- to specialty topic-level recommendations and reviews. At one time the Powell's Rose Room employees took over management of their room. Alas, the Powell's section employee work was judged too inefficient, and replaced. Many friends worked there in the golden age. I see Word Virus and our many small independent booksellers as a continuation of the curated-by-humans era. General AI may be able to read, but can it judge? If you are in the area, visit. If you are visiting bookstores in the neighborhood loop by here. If you have an interest in their topics, visit.
