This is seriouly one of my favorite Sunday brunch spots in DC. Parking can be a little hectic but once you are inside the smells, aromas, and hustling of the waiters transforms you to another town completely. The servers are very attentive and patient being how busy the place can get and the food is very good. I only subtracted one star because of some minor issues with the bill but overall I have to admit this place is amazing. The flavors of the food is spot on and the prices are reasonable. I was hesitant about writing this review in fear that others would find out what I already know that this place is the real deal. This place has a terrible online ordering website. We ordered over $75 dollars in food and did a local pick up. When we arrived there an hour later, the line was out the door and down the block because their system went down. We walked home called the business to see if our order went in because we were charged. We were on hold (not a real hold, we could hear workers scrambling about in the background) for over 45 min before someone on their end just hung up. We never got our food and never got our money back. Don't trust the business. read more

Went to Lauriol Plaza on a Wednesday night. Made reservations on yelp but didn't seem like I really needed them. It was "mojito day" so they had different food and drink specials. There were a lot of different menu items to chose from. The ambience was nice also, would be ideal for a date. The guacamole was okay, didn't have too much taste to it but the food and drinks were great! I would definitely come back, specially for happy hour ! read more

Laurie Plaza is my go to Tex-Mex restaurant for large parties. They had such a big selection on their menu, big portions, affordable, and amazing frozen margaritas. Some of my go to is their fajitas (steak is especially good) and their seafood stew if you want something different. read more

The food is amazing!! The chips are thin and salty, the salsa is just the right amount of spicy. The swirl margarita is delicious and does the trick :) The main course - we had the parilla ( I think that's what it was called) and all of the meats were amazing. A large platter of meat that easily feed five of us. What I didn't like was the service. The waitress had no personality and acted as if we were bothering her evening by being there. It was my first time here, and I would love to think the service was just a miss for the night. I would definitely go again and hope I got another waitress. read more

The ambience is amazing as it has 3 layers (outdoor patio, an first level floor, and a second level), the bar is pretty small but the bartenders are on point. Sangria is a must. I got the shrimp fajitas and it was absolutely delicious, however the service was subpar. We had a reservation but still had to wait 30 minutes to get our table. The waiting staff took a while to refill waters and hand out chips/salsa. Overall, It was a great experience with a good vibe and I would reccomend this spot read more

My coworker had a dinner reservation set a month ago for her daughter's 21st birthday. The restaurant committed to this reservation. People were coming from out of town, had set aside their time based on THIS reservation. SIX days before the event, the manager and GM call and say that they can no longer accommodate the reservation because it falls on Valentine's Day. Were they not aware of the date when they committed to it? Or did they forget? In addition to that, they were not willing to make any compromises on this reservation that they said they were able to accommodate. Now, people are inconvenienced because of this horrible oversight and horrible customer service. Point is - if you have a large party that needs accommodating, make sure you get a contract from them first, because it seems like they are used to honoring reservations then cancelling at the last minute. read more

Traveled to DC for the weekend and ended up eating here which was very close to our hotel. Lauriol Plaza has always been a very good Mexican, Spanish restaurant and tonight's experience was just as good. The menu is very diverse with some higher end entrees of better cuts of beef and seafood choices including lobster. We began our meet with pitcher of homemade sangrias, which had delicious pieces of fruit. I ordered beef and chicken fajitas and my friend ordered a nice beef dish. The food was excellent. Quality of food was exactly how I remembered it from years ago. Staff were extremely friendly. We sat upstairs with a table that overlooked the downstairs. Very nice ambiance. The restaurant is very attractive with large windows which makes it feel so open and spacious. A restaurant to go to for sure!! read more

Came here for happy hour. Was a short visit seeing as I was late to meet my friends. Enjoyed sitting outside in the warm weather. The patio is covered. I ordered the sangria/margarita drink for $5 which was ABSOLUTELY delicious. I love that combo. Last Wash DC trip I went there twice for dinner. It was so good the first night, had to return again (with a group of 7)! Interesting menu with Mexican, Cuban and even a few Peruvian options! Excellent Sangria! Mojitos were just so so. We didn't try the frozen Margaritas but they seems very popular. Definitely would return again. This restaurant is 0.1 mile walk from Washington Hilton! Look on the menu under the specialties and there you will find Masitas de Puerco (roasted pork) and Enchilada de Mariscos (seafood stew) among others. Good margaritas and mojitos. Lauriol Plaza never does me or Daddy Chaps wrong. Daddy Chaps always orders the steak fajitas and only eats one fajita doused in butter. I can be randahm: sometimes I order the brisket tacos (bonus: they cum on corn tortillas) and sometimes I go with the basic -- a salad -- the sunshine salad to be specific tho. We asked our cabbie for a late lunch recommendation (with booze), and he thought for a second... and said 'I take tons of people here' and, 5 minutes later, dropped us off outside Lauriol Plaza. It was that in-between time, when lunch is over but happy hour hasn't quite begun, so we had most of the rooftop deck to ourselves. Our waiter Franklin was quick to greet us, quick with the margarita recommendations and chips and salsa, and very open with his food recommendations. Both Mom and I went with combo dishes with bacon-wrapped shrimp - Mom had the Mar Y Tierra, which included a couple perfectly cooked petite filets with the shrimp, while I had the Beef Del Mar, which was shrimp with juicy/chewy (in a good way) beef fajita strips. Both meals were served with tortillas, guacamole, pico, rice and beans. A lot of food, but pricey too ($18-ish each). Their website says 'tex-mex', which I would agree with (rather than authentic Mexican, as another reviewer expressed). The restaurant is huge - three stories, with our 3rd floor accessible by stairs or an elevator (that appears more used by restaurant staff because you got to it by going through their area, it was messy, slippery and smelled fishy). A friend and I ventured into Lauriol's on a Friday night and it was pretty packed. We called after 7pm to avoid this but the hostess said they stopped taking reservations after 6pm. Once we arrived The line was out of the door and the hostess gave us an expected wait time of 30 minutes, so we decided to head to the bar and get their signature daiquiris. By the time we got out daiquiris and paid the bartender our table signaler began to vibrate. We had less than a 10 minute wait! We were greeted with a huge bowl of tortilla chips and fresh salsa. I ordered the full chicken quesadilla for $9.95! $9.95!!! This included 8 nice sized tortilla triangles with a lettuce and tomato bed underneath delicious quacamole and sour cream. The ambiance of the restaurant is great; the food, not good at all. The salsa is served warm, meaning when it arrives at your table you can see steam coming from the bowl. I have never had warm salsa and chips. I didn't like it. I ordered chicken tacos and black beans. The tacos were dry and flavorless. Came here for a friend's going away brunch. The thing I will applaud this restaurant for is the ability to allow for a 65 PEOPLE RESERVATION. I was shocked but they were very accommodating and I would recommend them for big parties if you need a big get together space. However, the food was very mediocre. Great location and awesome outdoor seating. But you normally go to a restaurant for the food, not for those other things, right? I love Mexican food, and this place was a disappointment. First of all, we only waited maybe 5 minutes before our food showed up. You might think that's a good thing, but it means the food wasn't properly prepared! My friend's quesadilla had clearly been sitting around for a while; they had pre-made it probably for the dinner rush. And my tamale was not finished AT ALL; it was still liquidy corn gruel! I'd rather wait another 10-15 minutes for my food to be freshy and properly cooked. I live in MD, and I easily could have walked to Uncle Julio's or even Fish Taco and had better food than bothering to drive to Adam's Morgan. That being said, the coconut flan is really good. I always enjoy eating here, the reason is that I've always been a guest and so far have never had to pay. The atmosphere is busy and is perfect for people watching. There is a great variety of authentic and delicious dishes to choose from and it's good to be a guest or come with a group to try something different each time . On this occasion I had the combination plate and my host had the surf and turf. The star of the combination platter was the very delicious and flavorful chicken tamale . It was quite good, full of flavor and the chicken was seasoned well. The steak on the surf and turf was very tender and tasty , cooked to perfection. Service was good and friendly, we were on a very strict schedule and we were able to leave with time to spare. Looking forward to my next meal and maybe I'll pick up the tab. read more

So they have indoor and out door seating. We chose to sit inside. The tables are spaced out and it has a dark atmosphere with a burning candle on the table. The waitress was friendly and helpful with the menu. Ok now to the food, the food was great I have no complaints my boyfriend got the fajitas which came out sizzling and I got a steak dish which came with plantains, white rice and black beans. My friend and I came here to meet a for brunch because she said that they had the best margaritas in the area. Even though we arrived on a Sunday, the place was pretty empty. I assumed that we came at the beginning of their brunch time. After I looked at the menu I decided to order the same thing that I order at every Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant, Chile Rellenos, and a margarita. The waiter was very attentive, taking our orders quickly then leaving. We snacked on excellent chips and salsa, while we waited to food to come. The atmosphere was quiet and you could have a nice conversation without yelling. I was so excited that I found a new place to dine then my Chile Rellenos came to the table. Guys....they weren't good, at all. When making the recipe, you have to burn the pepper and take the first layer of skin off before you add the filling and batter. They didn't which made this extremely tough when eating. Even the sauce was too thin. All of this plus a less than stellar margarita solidified my decision to not return. read more

My order was nothing special. I ordered the Nachos al Carbon and the Chicken Quesadilla to-go. The food was package disappointingly. They put the quesadillas and the nachos on top of all of the wet toppings (guac and sour cream), so by the time it reached my house, it was soggy. The nachos basically were falling apart because the corn tortillas were so drenched from the sour cream. It would be helpful to put them into small sauce containers. Lauriol Plaza is a great location for a large dinner party. I went to Lauriol Plaza for a birthday dinner. There were about 20 people at the dinner. The staff was very accommodating. We were seated in a section on the first floor all together at the banquet tables against the wall. The staff took orders as people arrived, which means that early arrivals do not have to wait to eat. Tables are decorated with fresh flowers. The full menu is available. Initially, I had a concern about receiving slow service due to a​ large number of customers sitting in their patio section and on the first floor inside. A restaurant wouldn't have two floors and outdoor seating without having enough staff to accommodate​ a packed house. My partner and I placed our order and received our meals within 20 minutes. The menu is very extensive with reasonable prices. I ordered the chicken chimichanga, which was massive and fried perfectly to get golden crisp on the outside and moist chicken on the inside. I found the rice to be mediocre; perhaps it should have been cooked a minute or two longer or not enough water was used, but I mixed in some sour cream​ to help. The pinto beans were good and arrived in their small bowl/cup. The next time I am near 18th St, I will definitely​ hit this place up. read more

Well...What can I say? Our lunch experience was no bueno. When the hostess walked my husband and I to a table, she took us to a two-top table. I spotted a different table that I preferred and asked to be sat at the alternative table. However, the hostess shared that four-top tables are for parties of three or more. Not a problem. We sat at a two-top table and minutes later a party of two was sat at a four-top table...then another party of two was sat at a four-top table. Well, that wasn't cool. So, we weren't off to a great start. So, we sat, I checked in on Yelp and someone dropped chips, salsa and two waters. Then we waited...{insert elevator music}...and waited. Finally, I flagged a waitress down that had walked by our table numerous times. I asked her if she could locate our waiter/waitress and she said she would go ahead and get our drink orders. We ordered two margaritas (one swirl and one mango); they were both good and strong. Then we began waiting again...finally, I flagged the waitress down that had taken our orders and asked if we could order and she said something like "(sigh) he hasn't stopped by yet?" So she took our food orders. I got the Reynosa Grande which came with one chicken taco, one chicken enchilada and one tamale, beans and rice, however, I substituted an extra chicken taco instead of the tamale. My husband got Saltado de Pollo which also came with rice and beans (he got retried beans). So, when my food came, I noted that I had two hard tacos, however, I was never asked if I wanted hard or soft, nor did I communicate which one I wanted. I alerted the waitress that I would have preferred one soft and one hard taco and she said she would make the switch. After several minutes had passed, I asked her how long did she think it would take for the soft taco to come out and she communicated that she had never asked for a soft taco as she forgot. Eventually, the soft taco did come out. My food was sub-par, blah and the chicken lacked flavor. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal. Towards the end of our meal a male waiter started checking in on us; my husband and I determined that this person was supposed to have been our server the whole time. He never introduced himself or explained that the woman would no longer be helping us. The exchange was odd. Overall, we got bad and slow service, my food was boring and uninspired. On a good note, my husband liked his food and the drinks were good. I so wanted to like this place, but they need to improve. read more

The food is really quite good and is reasonably priced for a DC restaurant. And the service is quite good. The Mar y Tierra is my favorite with Jumbo Shrimp and Filet Mignon along with all the fixings. However, I think I will no longer go back simply because their drinks are overpriced and extremely weak. I am not a huge drinker in the least, maybe having one drink a week. Every time I go to this restaurant, I always ask them to make sure the margarita is strong and it's basically all sweet mixer with little alcohol. Last night, we decided to get a pitcher with top shelf tequila at $59 a pitcher and we didn't even taste the alcohol, it was only sweet mixer and after having 2 full mugs of a sugar drink, I didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling that you expect. I felt that I just drank 400 calories of mixer. The waiter recommended that we take a shot of tequila at $10 a shot. No thank you. How bout you guys put enough tequila that we paid for into the $59 pitcher of margarita mixer so we would not need at extra shot? I rather just have one margarita that has ALCOHOL. Just for this reason, I have decided not to return to Lauriol Plaza, until they actually make real drinks and not cheat you on the tequila. read more
