I just moved back into town a few months ago. Prior to visiting Lavender Brothers, I drove all the way to San Jose to my car's dealership. Since I purchased my car almost 9 years ago I had gone to the dealership for all service. After visiting the dealership in CA and being recommended to replace something out of my budget, I started calling local shops. I had Lavender Brothers on my list from a month prior when I needed my brakes fixed, but someone else was recommended and I used them instead (big mistake as Lavender Brothers found what they had done incorrectly). After calling about 10 local shops, with some quoting higher than the dealership, I was able to talk to Toby. Toby is the owner and he did not give me any sales pitch, he explained why he doesn't quote over the phone and why it's important to inspect the car to be sure what he is quoting is even needed. Turns out the dealership had it wrong and what they recommended needed replacing didn't need replacing at all! Lavender Brothers did a thorough inspection and found things the dealership missed even though I brought it in to have them do a full inspection. Robin, who is the manager, went above and beyond and never stopped surprising me with how much he actually cares about customers and their cars. Once they completed the work and did a final test drive they noticed there was still a noise. From the beginning when I brought my car in, Robin could hear a noise that I've been trying to tell other auto shops and dealerships about. Unfortunately, no one ever heard or found anything. Robin heard it when I pulled in and heard it still there during the final test drive. He opened up the tire and found it was cracked! I had purchased this tire out of state, but the sister company was right down the street. Robin rushed the tire over there before they closed in 30 minutes and was able to take care of it. The tire was replaced immediately. Robin called me constantly to keep me updated and let me know the current status. He fought against my warranty to get me better quality parts. He took care of Iittle details like setting my clock to the correct time due to daylight savings and putting the sun shade up to keep the car cool when I picked it up. Being a female, I often worried about being overcharged or treated differently. I'm so grateful Lavender Brothers remained honest from the start and found real issues to fix instead of making them up. With photos and videos as evidence! Unless Lavender Brothers tell me they can't do something specific on my car there's no other place I'll trust. read more

This is our second time bringing our vehicle in. They are now more expensive than anyone in the area. We were told they could not warranty the work because it was new to them but they'd be cheaper than the dealership. They lied. They were double what the dealership was going to charge with no dealership loaner vehicle which took them a month to do what the dearship could do in two days. Very expensive lesson learned. I was 25 miles from home when my pickup overheated. After I let it cool I couldn't get the radiator cap off so had to call my roadside service who by chance towed me to Lavender Brother's Automotive. Robin Stover, the service manager, promptly came to my rescue, got the cap off, and gave me a few reasons for the radiator being dry. He then ran an estimate for doing a diagnostic on the problem. When I hesitated and said I'd rather just get my truck home and deal with it there, he said. "Okay, I can just fill it with water, and you can take your chances." I agreed to that but he said, " I want you to drive it a few miles around here, then come back to make sure there isn't something major going on." I drove around a while then anxious to get home before the traffic got heavy, I called him to report all was well but I wanted to pay him something. Hands down the best automotive service I've ever received! Friendly and welcoming doesn't hold a finger to the service I received. After getting a free quote, Robin was able to source all the materials needed in a matter of days even in the tail end of Covid shortages everywhere. With all the parts in and the truck finally on the rack, the tech's not only did the work requested, I received picture/information updates throughout the process as well as any additional things that needed attention. In my case, I needed new drivelines and U-joints as mine had been quite used thoroughly through their lifespan. Upon agreeing to the additionally installed parts, they were located and delivered the next day, not even lessening the overall project completion estimate as I was soon taking a trip out of town. Because I chose upgraded shocks with remote reservoirs, I inquired about clamps for them as they were quite expensive. Not only did they have clamps in stock that looked better, they were sold to me at a discounted rate giving my truck an overall better look in my opinion. Upon pickup, I was happy to hear that the truck had been test driven and that everything had been double checked for fitment. After having the truck back for only a week, I had easily racked 1k miles onto it and noticed it drives substantially smoother on and off road with only losing 0.5 mpg after a 2.5" lift with 35" tires on a 18" wheel. The speedometer I had them recalibrate was spot on as well. I recommend them to anyone and everyone for their work ethic and service! 2015 F250 Lariat Crewcab FX-5 -2.5" Rough Country Lift /2" block back -Bilstein remote reservoir shocks -Alignment -Speedometer recalibrated -Front axles replaced On an additional note, I chose this lift kit after a coworker with the same model truck purchased one. Tried getting my truck upgraded here with lift, tires, and wheels. They were far too busy to deal with me. The did not provide any initial recommendations for products, instead they told me to look online to found what I like first. I already had and told him what I liked. He said they didn't carry those brands and to look at a few different brands that they do carry. It was painful chatting with. I ended up going someplace else to get what I needed. Maybe if I had an older Chevy or I wanted a 9 inch lift, they would have paid me some attention. read more

These guys received my replacement part that I had to pay for even though it only lasted 1 year & told me to bring my truck in and it would be installed that day but it ended up taking 4 days even though they put it on the 1st time & a guy I talked to with the same truck put the same part on his in 3 hours at home & is not a mechanic aaand when I got my truck back it had 2 problems that it did not have before!!  So, instead of asking them to admit to & fix what they broke, I had a different mechanic fix it. Short Summary: Toby and his team are incredible. I HIGHLY recommend them if you want it done the RIGHT way. Long Summary: Toby and his team do incredible work. I was lucky enough to meet Toby on the trail years ago with his then brand new Willys that he built up. The clean fabrication and unique engineering of his rig really stood out in my eyes. I had just finished building my Willys and comparing the two side by side was ridiculous. Where mine was a bombing range of bird poop welds and poor engineering design, his was this meticulously thought out and artwork crafted machine that you could eat from. Yes, I wanted to lick his truck. :) Fast forward to today and he continues his amazing artwork through his customer rigs. I was looking to have a Jeepster built up into an Expedition style rig and I knew I just didn't have the skills that a real fabricator had along with ability to make it safe. So I went on the hunt for someone to build it where they could turn my vision into reality. That search was extremely short because I knew I already needed to go to Toby. The team has spent several hours doing the work on the Jeepster and with any major project, there are hiccups along the way that are unforeseen and slows progress or makes for an extremely difficult challenge that takes creativity to make it happen. My Jeepster was no different and in many ways I am sure challenged him the entire build. The good part is that it didn't slow him down at all. Toby and his crew do awesome work. I have had them weld on different pieces of armor to my Wrangler and their welding is impeccable. They charge a fair rate, especially for the quality of their work. At one point my front axle started leaking after I had them weld on some front control arm skids, it was also after I had taken the Jeep on a big trip. I wasn't sure what had caused the leak (the trip or the work) and was honest with Toby about it but he gave me the benefit of the doubt and fixed it on the house. I would give them a better rating, but noticed that they left a nut that holds one of my rear shocks on my truck off after doing maintenance on my lift. Kind of scary to look under your truck and just see the bolt with no nut attached to your rear end. In addition, I was going to use them for some other work, but they are 2x higher in price than all other reputable shops around. If you're bidding on work and starting your sentence with "the book calls for __ hours" that's a key indicator that you don't really have experience doing that type of work. From the conversations I've had with long timers here in Monterey I've been told that they are the highest priced shop around with zero justification for the hiked rate. All work on my truck will be going elsewhere. I don't mind paying for good work, but that doesn't mean I am going to throw cash out without a justification for the inflated rate. I'm a long-time customer of Lavender Brothers and what I like about dealing with them is they take the time to explain what needs to be done to repair my cars and they usually give me various options on expensive repairs. Not all shops treat female customers like this -- I've been to plenty that spoke to me like I was an idiot. I'm not. If anything goes wrong after a repair, Toby has always stood behind the work done at his shop and made good -- without charging me again. Not every shop is this honest. You can trust these guys to do a good job and tell you the whole story. They don't sell you a bunch of repairs you don't need. They will tell you what you need to keep an eye on or what might need to be corrected on your next visit -- which gives you time to plan your finances to cover an upcoming expense. I spoke to Matt on the phone and made a appt for Wed but he said if I could leave he would do his best to get to it earlier. Very nonprofessional shop! I took my car here months and months ago, got the diagnostic test done, figured out what needed to be done. The front desk said he would give me a call back for some pricing, I never heard from him until a couple weeks ago when I had to drive back over there and ask AGAIN. He didn't apologize, he actually told me that they did not have my number. Which was a lie because I had to fill all the paperwork out when they did the test. After getting it AGAIN, he told me would call by the end of the day. I couple days after I had to call him back and he actually tried to lie! Telling me that he had called and that he was waiting for me to bring the car back! After I argued with him, he THEN decided to check his computer and realized he was wrong. I still have not had one phone from them about a quote. read more

If you want to do business with these people come prepared with the BUREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR on speed dial. Some of the people in this shop know their stuff, but the customer service is piss poor. Starting with the owner or manager telling me how much money he'd lost on my job. I should've pulled the Jeep at that point. If you poorly manage your business, NOT MY PROBLEM. In their attempt to mount an electric fan onto my radiator, they put a hole in the radiator. The owner/manager guy decided it would be a good idea to tell me that he didn't have to buy me a radiator!! But he was going to any way because he was a good guy. There was NO APOLOGY. I told them, "thanks for not telling me to pound sand". This is not how you provide a good client experience. I came in to pickup my jeep, there were quite a few new little things on there. They quoted me 150 bucks "out the door" to redo all my battery connections. The labor became 150 bucks. Their excuse, oh you have way more connections than we expected. The Jeep was there the entire time. They could've just looked. It felt like they were trying to make back all those losses up front. I don't trust this place, I don't want to ever go back. We'll see if their work is going to hold up. If the cooling system they installed dies, even if it was free, I won't be taking it back to them. I drove away from this shop, with my check engine light on. I guess they didn't want to work on my Jeep anymore anyway. They may have won the battle, but they lost the WAR. I think thats what most of these shops don't realize. They make work really hard at making money on the job coming in the front door, But they'll never see me again. I was trailing my Airstream with a Ford F-250 diesel coming north out of Big Sur when it became obvious that there was a whine coming from the transmission or rear end. I searched and found Lavendar Brothers, pulled in on a Thursday afternoon before Memorial Day. Within a half hour, Toby confirmed that I had a problem with my rear end, and in another hour or so he had a complete diagnosis. The actual work was completed it a relatively short period of time and I was on my way Saturday. I am now through the 500 mile break in period and everything is perfect. In these days of big box stores and impersonal dealers, it was refreshing to find a business that actually cared about customer service. Toby and his crew at Lavender Brothers are as good as it gets. I took my sons Jeep TJ to have them build me a solid off road Jeep for some family fun. And they delivered! This was not just a lift, but also re geared front and rear, as well as air lockers, SYE, new drive shaft etc. Everything on it is done perfectly down to the smallest details. I had a deadline for a big reveal for my sons birthday, so Toby had his hands full to keep that deadline. I was kept closely in the loop as far as progress and where he was with the build. Jeep was done BEFORE my deadline and Toby actually did more than I expected to this thing to make it perfect (at no additional charge to me!) he did some custom metal fabrication that was never part of our original agreement to my diff covers and belly pan. That type of service you simply don't find much these days. I simply could not be happier about our Jeep and I can't say enough about the quality of Lavender Brothers work and Toby and his crew. Real deal for sure. This shop is busy for a reason! They have a lifelong customer and I will recommend them to everyone I know. Great job guys! read more
