Was recommended Natale's by someone who's lived in Monterey for a while and they were exactly what I was looking for. They worked on my 2006 Camry and 2019 Tacoma and I'm very happy with the customer service and quality of work. If I could give negative stars I would. I have a 1953 Chevy Half-Ton truck that I've owned for 30 years. I've kept up the maintenance and brought it in for an oil leak, oil change and to clean out the carburetor. I should have listened to my gut and walked out when they wanted a $1500 deposit before they even looked under the hood. Several months later and several THOUSAND dollars down the tube, I have a non-stock, electric radiator that doesn't fit, that bent the fan and caused smoke and sparks the second I drove 2 blocks from their shop, it drains my battery, to the point that now I can't drive it as it overheats or kills my battery and I still have the original oil leak. They promised me over and over again that they'd make it right. The owner went so far as stating he's a Christian but after three or four times trying to schedule it to come back in, he totally ghosted me. If you have a car you care about, avoid this place. As soon as I tried speaking with Jospeh Natale, he was extremely short fused and rude with me. His tone was demeaning and no matter what I said to try to be kind, he always stayed the same. They're very transparent on their prices we brought in our car and they told us that they can't open the hood because the mechanism failed they were transparent on price of it saying it could cost x amount or hopefully it's what we quoted you. I just took our other car into the shop and they were also transparent when we asked if the could fix a problem and they referred me to another shop. After attempting to diagnose and fix my truck myself with no success... Natale's Center saved the day!!! Once I tossed in the towel and began researching local shops I initially decided on Mattesons (didn't see Natale's on my search). Mattesons was full but recommended Natale's Center as the only next choice. I called Natale's and talked with Papa Joe who said to tow it in and he would try to get to it by the next day. Once I arrived Papa Joe was very nice and helpful! Quoted me $145 (included a military discount) for an hour labor to diagnose then would follow up via phone call. The next day he called to tell me they found the problem was a bad battery terminal and replaced it for the quoted hour and the cost of the part. In all they took my car last minute, fixed and returned within 24 hours, and only charged me $157! Thank you Natale's (Papa Joe) for doing honest and excellent service!! I will definitely return!! Also based on my initial research Natale's labor rate is one of the best/fairest in the area!! read more

Went in for diagnostic work on my car after waiting two weeks for an appointment that was canceled by them. Natale's over charged me a ridiculous amount for this service and then tried to bully me into getting my repairs done there for an insane amount of money. I did my research and had the work done somewhere else just to find out their diagnostic was wrong and they had lied. I had also paid for new windshield wipers and they never installed them but had charged me anyway. They also denied this when confronted about it. To top it all off, they charged me for someone else car bill and made me come back to fix it. Absolutely unprofessional making the customer feel wrong and uncomfortable. The only reason I feel okay about giving one star is because of the office staff at Natale's. They were kind and apologetic for the mistakes made. Papa Joe on the other hand is kind on the face however bullies his way into your decisions and does not own up to the mistakes. I will not be returning there for any reason and do no recommend. read more

My husband's door handle broke from the inside, and after calling multiple places throughout Monterey Natale's was the quickest to get back to us. They were even able to take our car in that day! Once we dropped the car off, they let us know what work would need to be done, the price, and when it would be completed. They were so quick, and my husband said his door handle is just like new! Ma Familia, that's the feeling you get when you are first greeted and the excellent service continues throughout. I sought Natales out on a recommendation from a friend who described them as honest and up front about estimates and repairs. I needed an extensive brake repair and they were reasonable, thorough and efficient. I was very happy with the results. Most recently I came in for a loud clunking noise which all I could think was it will likely add up to lots of $$$$ signs. Thankfully it was a quick and easy fix (tightening running board and lug nut replacement), and after a detailed discussion with the mechanic and owner about tires and suspension including a thorough description about PSI, tires and vehicle performance I went away very pleased and with a smoother ride having had the tire pressure lowered for free! They also made several recommendations for other local services i.e. tires and windshield repair. I cannot recommend Natales high enough and plan to keep bringing our vehicle to them for the duration of our stay here in beautiful and friendly Monterey! read more

So after buying a 1969 Camaro RS/SS, and finding out that Dodi's Auto lies about what they are selling you, I have com here to try and get her in good condition. I am not an engine guy, but I love muscle cars. So lets talk about this place... So far they have been great about going over the car and making me a list in order of what needs to get fixed as far as priority and nice to have. And before they do anything, I tell them my budget, they tell me how close they are and what else they can do. They also understand that I am lost when they start talking too much shop talk and they have been great at "dumbing" it down so I can understand. There is still a lot of work to be done, but so far what they have been doing has been great and in a good timely manner since the know I want to drive my new baby. The only reason I gave them 4 and not 5 stars (wish I could give them 4 1/2) is because they do charge to look at each thing I mention. Maybe this is common practice, but I would hope if they know I am going to have them do all the work and they will be my go to place to have the car worked on, they could wave some of the fees or cut me a better deal on them. Plus I think on the site it has a classic car discount and a military discount and I don't think I have received those, but that might be on me for not mentioning it to them. Now that I have stated the only bad I have fond, let me go back to good. Papa Joe is an easy to get along with gy and he knows his stuff. Wish I could take the time to listen to him teach me about cars because I am sure he has more knowledge than anyone else I will meet. Now Bobby, he always takes the time to listen to what I am hoping for, and so far he has been great at recommending other places to me to get other things done. As soon as I told him a quote I got for the interior he told me hell no, call this guy, and gave me card. He seems to know someone to help me get what I need done. I am looking forward to getting the mechanics finished on the car, and maybe after I mention the discount program and that gets applied, I can change my review to 5 stars. Seriously though... If you are not car smart, go here. They won't make you feel like a fool and they even tell you what you need so you can look it up and see they aren't ripping you off on price. Some people say they are pricy but you get what you pay for and they are working on classics. Hopefully I can return the favor and use my knowledge base for them and build them a new AR or mod out any rifle or pistol they want and give them some shooting classes for close quarters. I own a 1979 Corvette stingray L-84. Natale's auto service. It's an old car, and service is inevitable. Back in July, I blew the engine. It just stopped working. So after considering a bunch of auto repair places, I decided to have Natale's do the work. We bought a crate engine that has the most power you can get, for a car, in Kalifornia, that you can get with all their Kalifornia's smog garbage. I will tell you now how it went. Natale's are professionals. They don't mess around. They don't tell you that you need something when you don't. And they tell you everything that needs to be fixed. The only thing I don't like it's that it's really hard for them to give you an estimate. They fixed the engine. Mark did it. He put a new one in, started it up, and something went wrong with it after about 2 minutes, he diagnosed it immediately, and within a day -- we had to call the place that sold us the engine in the first place, and get them to give me a new one. They did. They paid for the whole thing. And they gave me a brand-new engine with a 70,000 mile. 7-year guarantee. We put that baby in, and after a little while (I had to get used to it) she purrs like a kitten. They installed a Hearst shifter, short throw, and that took some getting used to. I can now drive the Corvette, as a Corvette was meant to be driven. She's fast. She corners like there's no tomorrow. I love her; she's my baby. I also bought the car with digital gauges. I hated those d*** things. You could never tell how fast you're going, or how quickly the engine was turning, so I had Natale's do some custom work. These guys do custom work like there's no tomorrow. Anything you want, they can do, and if they can't do it, they will recommend someone who can. So they redid my entire gauge system. Billy, who's in charge of that stuff, we did a custom panel -- one for the tach and the speedo, and one for the clock, voltage, oil pressure, temperature, and one other thing I can remember. They reinstalled my $1000 stereo system. The thing I like about Natale's is that if a part comes in, and there's one little thing wrong with it, they send it back and get you one that's perfect. "Poppa Joe" is always there, and he knows just about everything there is to know about cars, and if he doesn't, he sends you to someone who does. They recommend things, and if you've got some bright idea in your head that you want something like headers or side pipes or something like that, they'll tell you right off "I wouldn't do it. You'll just be wasting your money, and the car won't run any better. Save your money." Listen, I'm not a gear-head. I just put the key in, and it goes. And after having Natale work on it, I have all the confidence in the world, that for the next 7 years, that car will run like a top. I have also been to them for suspension work, brake work, alignments, and other sordid and dirty jobs that I have little or no knowledge about. So that's what I think of Natale's. They're a little high-priced, but you pay for what you get. And the service is impeccable. They always answer the phone. You can go down at any time, and see how your car is doing (or not doing, as the case may be). They always have time for all your questions. I think they're a friendly, knowledgeable, good group of about 7 guys, who really know their stuff about old cars. I have no second thoughts about giving them my highest recommendation to anyone on the Monterey Peninsula who asks me "where do you take your car". (And I asked the people in my auto club who they thought was the best mechanic on the peninsula. They all recommended some twit, who didn't "feel" like working on my car because it was old. He did a rotten job. And I would never go back to him.) Natale's is the place in Monterey where you want to bring your car and have it fixed right. The first time. Every time. Had them do a pre-purchase inspection on a car I hadn't seen ( I was out of town ) with 59k miles. Complete waste of money, not sure if they even looked at anything. They missed the most basic things like the car leaking, AC blowing hot air, loose unsecured front bumper, noise, broken mirror, etc. Their inspection results were "the car seems fine". Very honest and reasonable, and even told me the last time I went to them for "check engine light" and other sensor issues, "I couldn't find anything wrong". I've been now driving for two months after this, no issues, no warning lights going on. This would have been the ideal time to take advantage on me if they were dishonest, yet instead, the mechanic simply said "I've checked everything, and I think it may not be anything except that your sensor lights went on for whatever reason." Total Nightmare! I took my car there after making an appointment to have them swap out a Carburetor and upon arrival was immediately treated terrible from the minute I had walked in. This wasn't my first time in this Business. After Bobby the irritated person at the Desk with whom I made the appointment said do you have an appointment, I replied yes and introduced myself again. I gave him a list of items I wanted to address on the vehicle and he said you didn't tell me about all this and said there is no way I can get to all these items on this List. I said can you just do the Carburetor switch out, he replied with a somewhat hesitation and proceeded to tear down about the list, I said what am I supposed to do tell you everything while on the phone to make the appointment? he basically got irritated and said to "get out of his shop, I'm not working on your car". Excuse me for bringing you work? isn't that what a Mechanic and repair shop does is work on vehicles and if a customer wants to spend more Money and have other items resolved is that such a Bad thing? the Conversation got heated with the trade of explicit words and a lot of f*#you and words, I left the shop gratefully to save myself from unprofessional conduct from a business owner. I too own a business and am grateful for each and every customer so when someone is that aggressive and downright cruel it tells me that there is something lacking in their Lives, perhaps a proper education. This is Ridiculous, that a shop feels so independent and with the lack of but a few Auto Repair Shops on the Monterey Peninsula that you have the right to treat a Customer this way... just insane. Do yourself a big favor and go elsewhere, this shop is not worth the aggravation. In my previous experience of trying to email and send a list together everyone of my emails went without response so in my opinion what is the use in putting together a detailed list ahead of time? its not like it is thoroughly comprehended beforehand. My first mistake was going there in the first place but they were recommended by another Vintage Car owner, I wanted to work with a Shop that had the knowledge of working on old Cars. Even with a referral from another customer with the same type of vehicle there were many Red Flags along the way basically of me feeling like I was begging them to work on my car and the general response was well we can take a look at it... and half way telling me to go elsewhere, my mistake I should have realized then. The Customer is right doesn't exist here. I have a choice of where I spend my money and I have always paid top $$ for the best experience and professionalism never trying to something for nothing. My wife and I were on our way to the airport when we heard a sound coming from under the car. We stopped at Natales' as it was just off the highway. Bobby (manager) said they would look at it right away and have his mechanic Joel test drive it. Although it was a small issue it gave us relief to continue our trip. They did not want payment even after taking 40 minutes out of their day to help complete strangers stranded on the road. Joel said consider it " good deed of the day". When I would talk to him he would talk to me as if I was a dumb girl who was clueless about cars. Bobby is all about how much money I can take from someone. I needed a truck in Monterey inspected (I'm in Southern California), and found papa Joe at Natale's. They made room to fit me in right away, then called me to tell me the mechanic started the inspection but quickly discovered that the necessary repairs would be more than the truck was worth, and they refused payment. This is the kind of integrity that is sorely lacking in business. My hat's off to these guys. I only wish I lived in the neighborhood so I could give them more business. About a month ago I got off the bus right next to Natale's. I was going to go swimming, but as I began to push my wheelchair I realized that a long-standing problem was about to freeze one of my wheels up completely. I sat next to the bike path and attempted to fix it myself with my little allen wrenches. Around this time the woman who runs the front desk (Mr. Natale's daughter?) noticed me near the shop. She kept an eye on me but did not approach me -- just the way I like it when it comes to situations like this. See, I like to see if I can help myself first, and only then do I ask others for help. She noticed me but later told me that it seemed I was OK on my own, and if I asked for help she would be there. I ended up pushing myself to their lot, my wheel getting stiffer and stiffer with each push. Thankfully I made it, and told them my problem. Joey and Papa Joe were right on it. It took a little while to figure out how to fix it, but they did, and I didn't even have to get out of the chair. Unfortunately it was too late to go swimming so I just went back home. I was in a pinch. I was going out of state and I needed a cruise control installed, and the shop I had gone to before had let me down and I needed it installed as quickly as possible. When I called Natale's, I was told that they could possibly do it provided they see an installation guide and had the parts. I brought in the guide, a gentleman took a look and said he'd be able to do it-- Music to my ears! I ordered parts, and when they got in I brought my car in and it was done that day.
