I am an extremely old patient of Dr. Steins. Back in 1999 he did a procedure to attempt to open up my sinuses. Endoscopic Sinus surgery. This was not a success and had to be done again by a different surgeon about 15 years later. I had noticed he had a certificate for plastic surgery. I had wanted a chin reduction for as long as I could remember. Back in 2001, he performed the procedure, in an OR, in his offices. This was done with only local anesthesia. I thought that was normal practice. My chin turned out lumpy with a huge indent in it. A year later he went in again to try to fix it only to make it worse. I finally gave up and figured out he didn't know what he was doing. I have been hiding my chin as much as possible now and rarely take photos. I just want to say, I don't know what has gone wrong with Dr. Stein...he was once someone I would see and though seeming "quirky", not totally obnoxious. Absolutely the worst customer service and front desk receptionist I have dealt with in a long time!! Made an appointment for father experiencing, they made a appointment 5 days out and which is fine, eventhough I expressed urgency, today (day of appointment) she called to cancel the appointment with no explanation and further more saying there is no appointments till after July 13ty (almost 3 weeks out). I again explained the urgency and she responded with "it is what it is, you may find another doctor"! Absolutely will not use them again and I caution everyone thinking of using them! this level of unprofessional behavior is absurd!! read more

Very rude doctor! I have NEVER written a review like this, however, I've never been treated so rudely in my life. I had this appointment for two weeks waiting to be seen by this doctor. Was waiting in the hallway and he asked me a couple of questions about my health and said "you're too sick to be seen here! Go to an urgent care or see another ENT doctor" and slammed the door! I do not have Covid and I told him this and could show him results! He wasn't interested and literally slammed the door. Stay away from this doctor, I'm not kidding. I'm an RN and I know better than this treatment! Bad. -1 review And I just got back from the urgent care and the doctor there was professional and said "ENT doctors are supposed to see you when you're sick." This Doctor is way too paranoid. I had to wait in the hallway then wait in 2 other rooms being shuffled into this room then that room. One of the rooms had a bunch of patients charts. HIPPA violation. So finally I am put into a makeshift exam room (which used to be the front office) then he tells me if anyone Knocks on the door not to answer it. I thought he was joking...he wasn't. He leaves, I'm confused. He comes back in the room and says he can't help me and to go find a specialist. I thought HE was a specialist. So I left. I was initially intimidated by the other reviews about Dr. Stein. However, after taking my husband to see him for an infection on his ear, my husband loved him. I personally went to see him for what turned out to be a double ear infection, a punctured ear drum and a tumor in my right ear. He took amazing care of me and explained everything he was doing and made sure that I was comfortable while performing the procedures. I was highly impressed with his skills. Avoid this physician. He is condescending to his staff and disrespectful to patients. I met Dr. Stein on my way to an intake appointment this morning. He was raising his voice at another patient who was mute the entire time. There was no sense of privacy in his office and conducted his intake in the waiting room with me. When asked about my weight I replied with, "Uh...maybe 96...97..." At this point he interrupted and stated he was writing down, "Uh, uh, uh." Then went on to say those with my weight tend to know how "little" we weigh and those that weigh 400+ lbs. don't want to disclose the information...enough said. Again, avoid this physician. He spent two seconds examining my nose and focused on ensuring he had a credit card on hand with my insurance card to charge me rather than consider building rapport or understanding my symptomatology. Stay as far away as you possibly can from Dr. Stein. I first went to Dr. Stein's office after having dealt with a couple months of on-and-off vertigo and severe ringing in the ear caused by inflammation in my inner ear. My first visit was barely 15 mins long, and he performed no real testing or anything. He barely looked in my ear and just assumed that it was infected and put me on antibiotics and steroids for a week. My first red flag should have been that he asked me if I was allergic to any medication about 7 times while putting in the prescription. In my head I thought maybe he was just being funny asking it over and over between other questions, but now I realize he's just senile and he needs to retire. He asked to see me back in a week after the medication was completed. While I was on the medication I felt no real change at all, but nonetheless I did as the Doctor ordered. I went back a week later as he had requested and he said that the infection had cleared up, even though I said that my symptoms had not gotten any better. He sat me in a room to do a hearing test, which lasted all but 4 minutes, and ALL of the audio only came out of one ear cup. I have done a hearing test before, and first off they take longer than 4 minutes, and you're supposed to hear audio out of BOTH earcups, and in some cases you're supposed to indicate which earcup you hear the sound in. I informed Dr. Stein that I felt the hearing test was not done correctly, but he ignored my concerns and said that it was perfectly fine and that I had "superb" hearing. He told me to just give it a few days to a few weeks and that the symptoms should just go away. The next day my symptoms got extremely worse, to the point where I couldn't even function. I couldn't work, I couldn't attend meetings, etc. I called Dr. Stein to ask if he's absolutely sure we shouldn't do any additional tests to ensure that there's nothing wrong, but he was unavailable and so his staff made me an appointment for the following day. I went in for my appointment the next day, and this time he barely even made time to see me. He told me that he had an emergency surgery and that he would see me after. What happened next was the most awkward encounter I have ever had with any Doctor. He kept going back and forth from the surgery room to the room where I was sitting and just asking me questions. I completely understand if someone has a medical emergency, but just be decisive and either reschedule me for another time or take care of the emergency first and ask me to wait. The continuous walking in and out of the surgery room and asking me questions was completely awkward to me, but whatever I'll try not to judge. He asked me to complete an MRI at a specific location. I unfortunately have a high deductible with my insurance provider, and so I called around different MRI labs to see if I can get the same MRI done at a more affordable price, and I found a location nearby that would do the exact same test at half the price of the location he asked me to go to. I called his office back and asked if it would be okay to change the MRI location, and they said they'll have to speak to the Doctor. I received a call back from Dr. Stein and he said that if I don't think the MRI is cost effective then to go to UCLA or USC and see an Otologist there. I called back again to state that I simply wanted to go to another location for the MRI and that I didn't say that I wasn't going to do it, but again was told that I absolutely had to go to the location they wanted me to go to. With all that said, I went to a different ENT, got the MRI done at a cost that was more affordable to me, and was able to get my issue cleared up, and all it took was one in-person visit and then a follow-up phone call after the MRI. Please please please do yourself a favor and do NOT see Dr. Stein and find yourself a different ENT. read more

After being referred to Dr. Stein by my PCP, I was able to get an appointment very quickly to diagnose my hearing loss. Dr. Stein was able to make an accurate diagnosis incredibly fast, and a couple of days later he performed what some might consider minor surgery to remove a cholesteatoma (an abnormal collection of skin cells deep inside the ear canal) and patch a hole in my ear drum. Remarkably, I instantly regained my hearing. After the procedure, Dr. Stein took the time to give me a detailed demonstration of the procedures -- and they were by no means simple -- requiring skill, knowledge and a great deal of experience. I am totally impressed. One thing that I will add after reading some negative comments: if you understand New York humor, you will find Dr. Stein uproariously entertaining. If not, one could easily misunderstand his demeanor as a bit quirky. But regardless, you can be sure that you are in good hands. read more

Dr. Stein is the worst doctor I've ever met. I arrived at his office for my first appointment about 5 minutes early with my son. I'm 78, use a walker because I'm waiting for a knee replacement. I'd had bronchitis. My internet referred me to him as my asthma was acting up and he wanted me scoped to make sure there was no mass lower in my throat. The office door was locked. Dr. Stein stepped out of his private door and began yelling at the top of his lungs saying he would not see me. I told him I had a Covid Test and was negative. He advanced out of his door screaming and I thought he was going to hit me. Either that or he was having a psychotic break. He was so mad he was shaking and screamed at me go to Emergency. He stated he could not scope me or take an x-ray and continued screaming at me. The State Medical Board needs to evaluate this crazy rude psycho doctor. He's dangerous to senior citizen's and children. I did never seen him before so I don't know what the problem was. BEWARE--he should not be allowed to use a scapel when he goes crazy at a new unknown patient like this. Is this what they call sundowning or dementia? read more

I have been patient of Dr Stein for many years but I believe he is staring not to practice good medicine . I visited office paid cash. He told me I had bad ear infection. Gave me medication but i didn't not get better. I called office front desk said they would call me back. Never did. After 8 says of not getting better I visited another MD. He told me the meds I was taking were suitable for children not adults. Got new meds from new MD and started to feel better within 2 days!! read more

Not professional at all. Charges $100 for a visit. Spent more time about asking about my insurance and his secretary if his insurance will pay and all that instead of trying to understand for what reasons i was seeing him. spent like a minute with me, gave me prescription and said you can buy it the pharmacy downstairs. took his prescription for 15 days, no change in my condition at all. They charge for every visit even it's for the same reasons. Where as my school doctor spent a good 40 min not only once but twice trying to understand my condition. Highly disgraceful what some doctor's have become, it was a profession supposed to help people, it is supposed to be a life of sacrifice like military where those guys get paid less than $100 a day but doctor's want you to pay $100 for a minute or two. Honestly the rudest office I've ever been to. I wasn't even taken into a patient room for my visit, he did my visit in the waiting room. When I tried to tell him what I was there for or ask any questions he kept cutting me off mid sentence. I don't think I got one full sentence in. While I was waiting, I noticed how rudely the Dr. was talking to the medical staff. I initially felt guilty, but I called the office to ask about a question I asked in the office which he gave me no real answer to and the lady who answered the phone was beyond rude. I went to his office to address multiple things, but he either wouldn't let me talk, would cut me off, or wouldn't actually answer my questions. I basically came in, he let me say one sentence, gave me a prescription and that's it. He did not fully address everything I came in for. While I was in the middle of asking him a question about my sinuses, he opens the office door and basically kicks me out of the office so at this point I'm in the hallway of the medical building trying to get the help I came in for. Having a lot of experience doesn't matter if you can't even listen to what your patients are coming in for. Also, the lady over the phone just basically told me to take pain killers every day instead of actually giving me the doctor's recommendation. Not coming back again! read more

Dr. Stein and his staff were very rude to me. I had the EXACT same experience as another reviewer on here (Lisa Z)! I also have never reviewed a doctor online before but I feel compelled to do so to save others from this cruel person. I have no problem with doctors being covid cautious (they should be!). The issue to me is not his desire to be safe (although I have no idea how he stays in business if he is an ENT and won't see anyone with any symptoms) but the manner in which he talks to people. He has a note posted on his door that is bizarre to say the least. He opened a door into the hallway and asked if I'd had a fever in the last two weeks (no) or a sore throat (yes). I have a sinus infection which is why I'm here! How could I not have had a sore throat if I've had a sinus infection on and off for a month? He was then accusatory saying the office manager should've asked me on the phone if I'd had a sore throat. He went to check and came back with papers saying "she asked you if you'd had a sore throat and you said no." I don't recall her asking but if she had, it was many days earlier and since then my throat had been sore. He said, "if you'd said you had a sore throat she would've told you not to come!" Clearly since I just told him "yes" I'm not a liar, so why would I have lied to her? Also, if she'd told me not to come I wouldn't have wasted my time and gotten my hopes up that this doctor could help me. I was so desperate I even called from my car asking if he'd do a phone visit but the office manager said no, he doesn't do that. Clearly these are very scared people who lack compassion and people skills. read more

This doctor is negligent. My husband has been going to him for months trying to figure out why the painful mouth sores are not going away for over a year now. This doctor has not referred him anywhere to get further screening and keeps prescribing anti viral meds that are not helping at all. He keeps saying it's not oral cancer without referring him to anywhere that can do a biopsy to confirm and find out what's causing this. Avoid this doctor. read more

I was in bad shape , with a simultaneous eye, sinus and ear infection. I was prescribed a steroid and antibiotics , and felt much better a few days later. My GP wanted to do Brain MRI etc etc. that would have cost me 3,500. Dr Stein said let's treat it and if it comes back we will do a Catscan at 400, and that's what happened . Thanks. read more

Dr Stein and his staff really care about their patients. I was recommended by my primary care dr to Dr Stein. He spent an hour with me while trying to figure out my condition and best treatment. He actually called my Ebro chronologies abs primary care drs to discuss my matter and better understand my situation while I waited in the room. This dr is very smart and takes his time before jumping to a quick resolution to ensure all bases are properly covered. I will continue to see him when I have issues. read more

I watched him "greet" people with his back turned while writing, instructing patients to go sit in the room. I am a new patient, and he does not introduce himself or even look at me while first talking to me. He did not fully answer my questions, and instead made a couple of judgemental cracks. While I was there, I heard him with EVERY patient, and all about their health. HIPAA? No. He told two of us that our last doctor had no idea what they were doing. I am healthcare provider myself and write this review because I feel that patients deserve better than this. I read one of the reviews and he did the same thing as he did for that reviewer!! He stood in the hallway across from that first room and talked to me through that door. Happily there were no other patients there otherwise it would have been extremely uncomfortable ... Just get in the room man, treat patients like you would like to be treated! I went for a severe ear infection and he did finally come in to examine my ear and said lets drain it and clean it in the other room. But as I walked out he changed his mind and said well let's just give you medicine! I think he just didn't feel like doing it... That was strange. I did end up going to another doctor the following week for a follow up and got the care I needed. On another note, I found this doctor through anthem list of providers , and I got a bill for $150 where as my insurance clearly says my office visit for a specialist is $70. This tactic of overcharging is unfortunately common cause patients don't understand their insurance and she gave me this story of applying to my deductible and ... I told her that I am a healthcare professional and understand insurances well and after a long phone conversation and waste of time, I did pay what I am supposed to pay . End of story!!! It is sad how healthcare has become more about business and less about patient care. I try to treat my patients with a lot more dignity and respect!! read more

Do not go to this doctor! I took my mother here to have earwax removed and both of us were appalled by how incredibly rude and unprofessional he was. I'm reading other reviews here now (wish we had read them before) and I see that we aren't the only ones who have had this experience. He seemed totally disinterested in giving my mother medical attention and more interested in making dumb inappropriate jokes. It seems like he is ready to retire and he really should. All my mom needed was to get her earwax removed and instead he prescribed her some very expensive ear drops and simply said to come back a week later to see if he could remove the wax then. He did this to us twice and told my mom she had an ear infection. My mom was semi-deaf for two weeks after using the ear drops. We suspected something was off so went to another ENT doctor in West Hills for a second opinion. In less than 10 minutes that doctor removed all the earwax from my mom's ears. He told us that she didn't have an ear infection and that those expensive ear drops just spread the wax around and made the situation worse. Such a waste of time and money. We feel seriously cheated. I saw this Dr, for so many years, in the 90's and early 2000's. I only wish I had realized he had no idea how to treat my condition. He made nasty little comments that I was his only real Meniere's patient he had ever treated. I kept asking him for some better help. Asked if there wasn't something more for my awful condition. He constintly told me my condition was not severe enough. He prescribed Valium and joked with me, because I was reluctant to start this drug. He convinced me how good it would work, that it was not like taking it as a recreational drug like "we all did" in the 70's, but then at the near end of our visits, he took a hearing test, said I had lost all of my hearing in that ear, and that I now had no more Meniere's Disease. I was treated like a drug addict and dismissed as his patient. I was not internet savvy during those earlier years. I called his front office to plea for a referral to a specialist. I begged,I was having pass out episodes, worse than I had ever been. This Dr. had the nerve to write me a letter referring me to an Institute, like it was all his idea, trying to sound professional and covering up his stupid actions. I did eventually end up at UCLA and did get a surgery that stopped my horrible episodes. But this Dr. Stein was my worst nightmare and I only wish I had known enough in my early years that there actually was a place I could go to get PROFESSIONAL help. During my years with him, I always saw ads for his Plastic Surgery in Galpin Ford Magazines. This, at the time made me uncomfortable about being treated by him. But the humiliation he made me feel, when he dismissed me as his patient is unforgivable. read more

Very unprofessional. He keeps While asking questions about your medical history he keeps the exam room door open. He talks so loud the women in his front office can hear everything. There is such a thing called Hippa. It's a patient privacy law. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. If you are not coming in for plastic surgery he does not want to be bothered helping you with a throat problem. Dr. Stein is a brillant man and great plastic surgeon. I went in with my daughter how had a melanoma removed and decided to rid myself of my 80 year old eyes. He is great , makes you feel at ease during the procedure and and no pain. One day after the surgery feeling fine and know the results are amazing. My family and I have been going to see Dr. Stein for over 20 years. He's an amazing ENT Doctor and a talented plastic surgeon.

I went to check my ears because of uncomfortable feeling I had. I was seated in one of the rooms and looking at pics. Doctor's total visit including of asking questions and physical exam took around 2-3 minutes. he gave me a prescription for a ear drop. All the time he was checking his accounting. I had a feeling that I had gone to a financial firm rather than Doctor's office. they charged total $300. I guess $100 per minutes. I still have the same feeling in my ears and I need to go to a doctor who cares and definitely not him any more. read more

My family and I have been visiting Dr Stein for over 25 years, we have build a relationship with Dr Stein. sure he is loud and funny and that's his personality which we find charming, he calls me the ugliest in my family which is hilariousness coming from him since I think I am very handsome and he is jealous. On the serious note I have a chronic left ear condition and he has saved me many times. I even had an injury in which I stuck a cu tip in my ear and punctured my ear drum, I went to urgent care and they told me no worries that I had scratched my ear canal but on Monday he fixed me right up. For the person with the Mono or no Mono, remember that's why is called a practice and not a science, Doctors have to make best guess with little information they have, if he just took the meds the problem would have gone away and if Dr Stein didn't scare him with Mono and actually it was Mono then who knows how many people would have been infected. I just don't appreciate people making quick judgment on professionals that help us so much, sure they make good money but hey we need them more than they need us. read more
