This is a traditional, family friendly rink just like you remember from when you were a kid. Family owned - it's their 44th year in business. Look on their website for hours and rates - do not rely on any app/google searches. Use their site. If you have kids under 12 sign them up for kidsskatefree.com Rollerworld participates and each child gets one free skate pass a week for various sessions - again you check the rollerworld website to see which session it is. This is an awesome program. They host an adult skate 18+ with 70-90s music. I love that skate! They remodeled over the pandemic - new bathrooms and snack bar - and they re did the floor - smooth like butter! Car pool if you can - the lot is smaller! You can bring your own blades or skates. If you clean your stroller wheels you can stroll skate with your little one. You can rent blades or skates. Wear thicker socks if you rent. Lockers are $0.50. Bring 2 quarters to be prepared. I love this rink and I hope you check it out. It's a great sport for the whole family. Plus it's fun.

We came here purely by accident last Saturday, on a gloriously sunny afternoon. Initially, we were…read moreheaded for a walk at the Lillian Anderson Arboretum but the parking lot was overflowing with cars and irritated people vexed with the tiny size of the lot, so we decided to check out a trailhead we had seen before on KL Avenue but had always passed by. The trails were hard packed dirt and clay and sand and rocks and occasional roots protruding to the surface. There were no wood chips or gravel to smooth out the footing on the trail loops. The landscapes were still pretty quiet in mid April. Things probably start growing and flowering later on in the spring. I suppose someone comes through in the summer to mow the paths but otherwise everything remains rather primitive. The parking lot is dirt and gravel. There were no facilities nor any benches that we could find. There were colored markings (green, blue, white, etc) to guide us through the loops. The area is not altogether flat but the walks down or up hills weren't bad. I have to admit I was completely unaware of the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy (SWMLC) and its mission. The walk led us to check out the website (see above), and we learned about what SWMLC does. This particular preserve is a work in progress. The group hopes "to enlarge the scope and depth of the oak barren habitat by clearing brushy invasives and planting the seeds of prairie species." The website gave us information about the location of other preserves in the area, all of which will get visits from us now. And we will revisit this one to see how it changes over the spring and summer.

Wolf Tree Nature Trails is home to two 3/4's of a mile trails that wind through forest and meadow…read morescenery. It's on the westside of Kalamazoo on beautiful KL Ave. There is a good size parking lot and the trails are well marked - green and blue and once you are one of these trails you'll see orange and white loops trails that connect. The trails are perfect place to hike or run. You can even bring your dog but they most be on a leash. We hiked the green trail which lead to an amazing gully where we heard the most unusual sound. I was baffled as to what was making that sound. It sounded like a bunch of geese or ducks. But to my surprise it was a lot frogs in the pond chirping. I've never heard anything so spectacular. The trail is fairly easy but does have some incline. We'll be back to explore more of this beautiful preserve that is owned & operated by the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy.

Thin Mints: I'm the weirdo that doesn't get overly excited about Girl Scout Cookies. There's a…read morenumber of reasons for that as I'm just not a big cookie guy (really selective in the kinds I do like), out of spite as I was a Boy Scout and we never sold anything that was super popular, or they're just simply overrated. Speaking of super popular, Thin Mints are the bestselling variety of Girl Scout Cookies. Thin Mints are produced by both ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Bakers, supposedly with some minor variations in shape and flavor. Some sources say they were first introduced in 1939 under the name Cooky-Mints, while others site 1951 and the name Chocolate Mints. Thin Mints would become the proper terminology in 1959. Each cookie is covered in a waxy mint chocolate coating, with a crisp and crumbly interior portion. These are a hard sell to me as I generally do not enjoy minty desserts (other than mint chocolate chip ice cream). That being said, these were decent. Placing them in the fridge or freezer also improved them slightly in my opinion.
