My sister reserved camping spots for both our families. I showed up before her to an empty lot and proceeded to unpack our things and set up camp. Out of nowhere one of the workers starts screaming at us from the top of his lungs to get our truck out of that spot RIGHT NOW!!! Unbeknownst to us, you were only supposed to walk the block in with all your things. When we pulled in, there were no tents set up, nobody around, and no signs. Had we known, we obviously would not have parked our truck in there. If the lunatic had kindly told us that we were not allowed to park in the area, we would have graciously apologized and moved our truck quickly. I had 2 traumatized kids on the first day on their very first camping trip. Thanks Ahole. We had a pleasurable stay nonetheless. Kids enjoyed the beach and wildlife. We had family camping here and were coming to their campsite but told us to walk a mile to their campsite to get them to pick up up and bring us In but never said to wait until after 11am for the day use passes to open for availability. They do not abide by rules for keeping your dogs on leash or other cars for the campsites but instead told us to walk. His customer service towards other drivers even pulling in was horrible. Worst campground I have ever been to in my life. Check in was very disorganized. Staff at check in was extremely rude and I was talked to (yelled at) as if I were a child (seriously, if you hate your job or people that bad, I suggest finding a new one) The sites were poorly labeled if labled at all and no map was provided. The sites are basically on top of one another with your neighbors RV tent and fire right next to you. Our site was on a dirt lot with ashes from the previous camper, garbage and a dirty picnic table. The dumpsters were filled to the maximum and the portable bathrooms were disgusting. As I watched my dog lay in the dirt we decided to take down our tent and leave. We were probably there for an hour. What a waste of money, drive and weekend. I hope this helps others in not wasting your money or time on this place. Go elsewhere. read more

my mom and i booked the entire weekend,4 nights to be exact. we arrived late, at 9:30 pm. we had a very hard time finding our campsite, spot 713, and there was no signs, no lights, no map for us to help find our spot. when we finally found it we parked and in the middle of putting our slides out there was a harsh loud banging that scared us deeply, it was a very rude man telling us that no engines or generators on past 9 and it was 9:07 pm. we shut off our engine very quickly but while taking our pups out we heard 2 very loud generators on both side of us and loud music playing. very disappointing. if you are looking for a muddy lot with no privacy and obnoxious people banging on your door this is the place. we ended up leaving that next morning and never came back, we didn't even try to get our money back since the lady working there was so rude. read more

Pretty amazing how much a place, (or a person) can change in just a few years. Our experience at Dillon Beach at the end of this year's Dungeness Crab season was the best time I've ever had at this beach. The camp spot we were on was on the water, rather than the dunes, and yes, we still had fisherman and others walking through our spot at times, but mostly it was just us and our dog. We watched a full moon rise and set over the water while BBQing oysters over the fire. Romantical, lovely water lulled us to sleep at night and we were blessed with perfect weather. We made friends with the campers on either side of us and some of the people there on day-trips too. The store sells reasonably priced firewood, coffee (discounted if you refill your cup) and lots of other supplies. They also have day permits if you don't have an annual fishing license. We cast a few lines into the water but didn't put much effort into catching fish, and our reward was as such. But most of the dedicated fishers, crabbers, and clammers walked away with seafood feasts. Our travel plans for this fall have changed slightly so we're postponing a big trip a couple months, and instead plan to return to amazing spots like this one instead. Beautiful location but we wished the roads were better. Pot holes everywhere. It made biking difficult for the children. But sand sledding was the best!! Great dunes for kiddos to sand sled. We stayed in the Meadows and love the wide spaces. Another positive note was that the general store had oysters from Tomales Bay. Saved us a trip to pick up oysters and wait in the long lines. Used to live camping here, at some point they have some new employees running the place. First I read the rules about flags...no problem, I'm a Firefighter so under my US Flag, I flew a Firefighter flag...nothing offensive at all....Here came a gut named Doug, and he told me I had to take my Firefihtet flag down! Never in my life have I heard that displaying a Firefighter flag was offensive! As I look around I see Coors Light, a F#@$! BIDEN flag and others...but I can't support my Firefighter brothers? What a disgrace this place is! Then where is what was supposed to be the "Camp Host" is a daily part site for the employees there..One night they were playing a movie on a sheet they rigged up. The movie was at least Rated R and quite a bit of nudity displaying. Our sites had quite a few kids ages 10 to 14. Pretty disrespectful! The last night we were there, the party site literally had a mini burning man event. They lit some sort of statue that almost burnt thier Breaking Bad lookin RV they had there..Many questionable individuals arrived to the party there throughout the evening. The People working the store are quite rude considering the amount of money our group spent there daily with out kids for candy and anything else..At one point, we had our kids go grab some bags of ice. They came back with 1 too many bags of ice, supposed to be 6 and they grabbed 7...A young man literally ran to out sire and accused the kids of stealing ice! Like we would really try to steal ice...Not hey must of been some confusion, you grabbed one too many bags...To call our kids thieves, get outta here! That place will be run to the ground with thier current employee situation...pretty sad! read more

Management is rude and power trip! We are all in healthcare and have been dealing with the stressors of COVID for the past year as everything is crazy again we all just needed a break from dealing with the stress of the hospitals being at capacity. Lets get away and have a peaceful camping trip. Which started out great and ended extremely disappointing! My family has been camping here since the 80s and every time we go back there is some other kind of BS we have to encounter. We actually stopped going prior to the dock being torn down because of all the changes and BS. Unfortunately our new go to camp ground was devastated by the fires and decided to give it another try. So first trying to book an actual site was painful, waiting for a site to open up that was not on the road because of the kids was insane. Then the information was so confusing so tried to call and get clarification on the rules for extra cars... but good luck getting anyone to pick up the phone. So we asked friends who had recently been which sites they stayed at & were 2 cars sites. They gave a great reference, the sites were great however when we get their the young lady working in the booth had the worst attitude and was rude when I questioned the amount of cars for the sites. When my daughter arrived a new lady at the gate was extremely polite and understood the misunderstanding. Advised us to drop their stuff off and park in town. Perfect not a big deal. Camping was great kids had a wonderful time. It was a little disappointed in how both stores changed from camping necessities and the old Dillons beach attire to organic expensive gift shops. Time to pack up and head home, we pick up my daughters car to leave. Go through the gate, come back with the cars, oops i guess we were suppose to stop and say just grabbing and going.. take complete responsibility for our lack of communication. A simple conversation right... WRONG... one of the guys who works there comes flying through the camp sites "chasing us down" like we robbed the local store, rude as hell, to my son how he should have stopped. He apologized since our interaction with the prior worker was a simple process. He radioed in that they were packing up and leaving and then proceed to scold my son, so of course I try to explain to him the situation he continued to interrupt me and therefore i had to turn up my attitude towards his in appropriate communication. I don't care to deal with power tripping people there is no need to treat people rudely over a misunderstanding. He ended the conversation with you have 20mins to pack up and leave. Fine... will do! Kids leave then the lady at the gate speaks rudely to my kids trying to charge them $40 then it changed to $15 when they questioned it. We completely get there are rules and fees for specific activities etc. We absolutely respect the campsites, the rules and help keep the beach & sites clean. In fact teach our kids to walk around and pick up other peoples trash because we respect the beaches. Unfortunately, the encounter on our final day just ruins the trip. My suggestions is to fix the website, monitor the phones to avoid confusion and keep the employees up on the always changing rules, so they do not have to deal with upset guests. Not even sure if this post will make a difference because Dillons beach is one of a kind. Just wish for once we could go and not have to deal with the BS. read more

We camped here in late June. The beach was awesome, and the water was surprisingly warm. Our site was #501, which on the website images looks like it is the last site next to the beach with nothing on the other side of it, but apparently that is where they store all the rental boats... so we constantly had to talk over the beeping of tractors in reverse. The dumpsters were not too close, but in the mornings the disgusting stench of rotting food, and rancid fish wafted into our campsite from 75 yards away. I am not one to complain about pot-o-potties either, because I know what they are like... but O.M.G I have never been in port-o-potties left in such disarray! There was no T.P. and if there was, it was left on the seat and pissed all over. There was literal crap on the seats as well, and no hand washing stations. We were fairly close to the worst pot-o-potty of all of them, and laughed as we saw multiple people come out of it and literally vomit in the road next to it. No exaggeration! Also we ended up camping next to some extremely verbally abusive people. The children (teenagers) stayed in their camp Sat. night and were very quiet, but when the parents got back from partying with their friends (around 11:00 pm) the kids were berated. The parents screamed at the top of their lungs at their teenage daughter, spewing horrible language with no concern about other campers. They screamed at her for a good 45 minutes. I almost went over there, but did not want to risk getting into an altercation with a drunk irate person. Nobody from the camp came to quiet them down. The entire campsite had to wait until the parents screamed themselves out. All in all, I will not stay here again, and I would not recommend it to anyone else. read more

If you make a reservation here, you better hope you don't get sick and need to reschedule. We were scheduled for this Thursday-Sunday and I unfortunately came down with a head cold from hell. Going through boxes and boxes of tissues, nose red and raw, sinuses backed up and eyes watering like crazy. We were so looking forward to our first camping trip in our new trailer but unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to reschedule. I called them 48 hours in advance of our reservations and left a message (no one answered the phone) to reschedule for a later date. Well no one ever called me back, but I got an email with a gift certificate for the value of only 2 of the 3 nights that I paid for. I called them back to ask why they shorted me a night and told me this was their cancellation fee policy. I told them I wasn't cancelling and asking for my money back, we just wanted to reschedule for a later date when I was well again and could enjoy the trip. She said rescheduling is treated the same as a flat out cancellation. I asked her if I could just get my money back in a refund rather than a gift certificate and she told me no. Of note, the same thing happened to my aunt a few months ago when the weather took a turn and the forecast changed to storms and rain for the entire week she was booked to camp there. She called to reschedule for once the weather cleared up, and they stole her money for one of the nights she booked also. With a policy this strict, we won't be returning to camp here once we use our gift certificate for the remaining 2 nights (that we really don't want to use here, anyway). People get sick, the weather changes, and they are not flexible in the slightest. There are other more flexible camping spots in northern CA where you don't have to worry about paying for your entire stay up front and risk losing your money if something outside your control happens to pop up. 1 Star for terrible customer service and a horrible rescheduling policy. read more

We've been avoiding this place for years. Took a drive through once to check it out and all the cows, the resulting cow patties, homesteaders and general trashy look kept us away. We heard they cleaned things up so we thought we'd give it a try. Big mistake. The only thing cleaned up are the cows-there's still no bathrooms at all, overflowing dumpsters, and cigarette butts and dog poop everywhere. This place is gross and the people that work here are even grosser, they run around with no type of identification yelling at people and cussing in front of young children. Do yourselves a favor and drive down the road to Doran-clean and well kept with nice bathrooms, showers and rangers that are nothing but nice and courteous. 10/10 do not recommend Lawson's. read more

Nothing but amazing experiences here. From the wavy violet meadows to the stark dunes to the wide ocean, it's a little bit of everything. The staff (Hi Whitney!) is superb -- friendly, and conscientious. We like to come here on a weekend and mix it up with the rollicking locals and stay through mid/early week to have the place to ourselves to decompress. This mainly RV-centric campground (though they have tent camping too) has a menagerie of dogs and families and generally nice humans both furry and otherwise. Highly recommended! read more

brought our RV to one of the new "hook Up" sites. they charge $120/night for water and 20 amp ** no sewer** AND, they charge you for the electricity you use on top of that!!! Seriously? how greedy. wasn't disclosed either. Can't have another car at these sites, even though they are big enough for two--they will charge you $45.00 fee. Again, Greed. This is the worst place to ever camp! Its noisy, dirty, cow poo everywhere! NO flushing toilets and definitely no showers. If you are staying the weekend, they will not clean the port o potty on Sunday, so you will have everything from Saturday hanging around in there. Its disgusting!!!! The signs say 'fireworks are illegal', then why are people setting off the fireworks all night? There is no 'quiet time' even though they say there is. You can drive to the end to use the flushing toilets but its just as disgusting as the port o potty. If you want to go for the day leave when you need to use the bathroom otherwise don't go! I don't recommend this place to anyone. Nothing there for the kids to do.... the main street will get them run over since there are cars coming and going all day long!!! read more

I was invited by my neighbors to join them here for the day. They have a huge trailer with all the bells & whistles. Anyway, maybe I'm spoiled from my experiences of beach camping in Australia, but it was like being at an RV parking lot with a beach over the hill. You are pretty much side by side with other trailers/campers/RVs. The portaloos are disgusting - my six year old nearly threw up when she had to use one. Actually, she does that with most portaloos... The night before, some yahoos scavenged through the ice chests to find the one with beer, etc. and took it! I mean, c'mon folks. Aren't we all adults around here? To give you a better vibe of the place, we saw a converted public transit bus rumble through complete with mattresses. It was like the Grateful Dead meets the Hillbillies. Loved hanging out with our neighbors (who vowed never to return) but didn't care much for the surrounds. read more

Had a great weekend, when I booked our reservation I didn't realize our friends were bringing an extra car, the young lady at the check in could not have been more helpful or pleasant! I wish I got her name ( we checked in Friday at 1:00 pm) she let us get 2 other sites that did allow for an additional vehicle. Be sure if you need a site that will accommodate an extra car as if not the parking in a long way away! We had sites on the sea wall, BEAUTIFUL! Other than the porta potties! But it was a great view and NO smell. A perfect weekend with special friends celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary The sea wall sites are a calmer area, not as noisy as the main area can be. I absolutely love this place! My family came here during the summers when I was little and now that I have moved back to the Sacramento area as an adult, I find myself wanting to go back all the time. When it's 100+ degrees in the Valley, Lawson's Landing is a lovey break from the heat. It is often very cool, down to the low 50s at night in the summer. I strongly suggest bringing layers and blankets! When sitting around a fire at night, the wind can pick up and get pretty chilly. They have a small store at the boat launch with candy, cocoa, coffee, and other little things. The people here are all so nice. It's very quiet and peaceful. The camping sites are pretty good size. When I was young we used to RV, but now, as a young adult, I stick with the tent- much more economical! As far as camping goes, they have lots of big trash dumpsters around. The toilets are all porta potties but they keep them very clean. They sell firewood at the gait for $6.50. Overall, I would go back every weekend if I could. It's close enough to Point Reyes area that you can do a hike all day then camp here on the water, that's what we did the last time. read more

I have been camping at Lawson's Landing since I was a few days old. (parents weren't the most protective). I have so many great memories here that I am probably jaded by the bathrooms and wind factor, but hey its camping. Lawson's Landing is simply some land with sand dunes and the ocean on the other side. If you are looking for hookups and accommodations then this isn't your place. There is no power, limited bathrooms, and not a whole lot around. It has a simple charm about it that really feels like camping. Most people camp in RV's and some in tent's, but it is cold and windy. This place has a cult following and is usually always crowded. Get in early on a Thursday to reserve a space, it fills up quick. Pack everything you need because there isn't a lot of stores to pick up supplies at. They have a tiny local store but its mostly filled with sodas and candy. Defiantly take a stroll on their pier and watch some crab catching. This place grows on you. read more

The pier has been out of use for a few years now and they've finally taken it down but there's no plan in sight for rebuilding it. The places I go further up north were booked (Doran Beach), so my family and I tried this place. We had spot 734 by the Sea Wall & close access to the shore. My parents had their camper van & my family of 4 pitched a tent. I can see why people would say it's not really for tent camping due to the high wind we had to deal with, but hey that's part of the experience. If you don't mind using a port-o-potty (I was kind of nervous after seeing some other posts, but the restrooms were maintained while we were there), not taking a shower for a few days (unless you rig something up), and some wind, then you'll be ok. Not too distracted by all the RVs/Trailers in our area, but we'll probably try a different location next time. We did some clamming & fishing. My kids enjoyed waking up early to see what we could find with the low tide. Not many places to pick up driftwood for a fire, so bring your own or buy a big bag for $18 (should last the night if you like sitting around a fire all evening). I recommend making a reservation online. If you're with a group, make sure they know what's up (if a site is 2 vehicles or not) otherwise they'll hold up the line at check-in. However, there were some pretty bold skunks that came our way. We put all our food away, made sure there were no scraps or anything that might attract them (again I read some other reviews), but those guys came out at night sniffing around, by the fire, not even caring we were there. They came out around 9-10 in the evening (2 nights) and stayed a bit before moving on. I don't know how this should be dealt with, but yeah, they're there. read more

I'm going to go average for this campsite. I don't disagrees with the other reviews, but... Pro's: I was there in December and the camping was pretty much empty. If you stay in the 'parking lot' (the ground is dirt and gravel) campsite the view is epic and you are feet away from a beautiful shoreline and the ocean. Great access to crabbing and clamming. They have fresh water spigots - a lot of campsites don't these days because of the drought. They have port-a-potties (sorry everyone else but even epic campsite don't have toilets. Get an RV or stay in a hotel if this is a priority). I found the people with whom I spoke, Willy, and another guy that seemed like an owner, helpful and friendly. Got a great clam cake recipe from the 'other guy.' I actually had 4G coverage. Con's: The high winds, but that's not their fault - get a weather forecast. I had to tie my tent to my car, the picnic table and the fence because the sandy nature of the parking lot didn't hold stakes well. The parking lot nature of the site, but I've seen worse in Half Moon Bay. The fire pits were in disrepair. No grates on them, bring your own; plus a wind break or forget making a fire. The snooty local beach parking lot run by Dillion Beach Resort charges $8 to park. The store and entire Lawson's Landing area were pretty run down. The permanent RV's were dumpy but I camped far enough away from them that it didn't bother me. read more

This review is a combination of the stunning, five-star location with the fact that it is run as a one-star combination of a flea market, trailer park, and fishing village. I know that averages out to three stars but I can't rate this place that high in good faith. We stayed here in an RV. We were a little surprised to drive by numerous trailer houses, camp trailers, and permanently installed RV's that are part of this facility. Most of these permanent residencies are pretty trashy and run down. Some are covered with tarps. We were pretty surprised by the $50 price tag per nigh given no electric or water hook ups and blue portable toilets as the facilities. The porta johns were not even clean and maintained. Most had no toilet paper. There is a "market" here. It is something of a flea market. They sell all sorts of junk (to whom I have no idea). On the bright side, the location is fantastic. The dunes here are great and there is a wonderful beach. A number of people were digging for sand shrip and other critters during low tide. Looked like lots of fun...we just enjoyed hiking around on the beach and sand dunes. read more

Was going to call when we received an e-mail that due to Covid they were shutting down operations until things improve. They had refunded our credit card. First time here crab fishing and although we weren't successful, it was pretty fun. Dungeness crabbing season started a couple weeks ago and wish we were able to catch more. Some guys yesterday caught several big Dungeness but overall the inventory was a little low this weekend. We were able to catch a couple perch that were about 2 ft long. This is a nice spot but it does get crowded so get here early to secure a nice spot! read more

My boyfriend and I decided to take a trip to the coast for my birthday celebration. We had never heard of this place but were intrigued since we wanted to go fishing and head to the beach as well. We went tent camping and it was a little underwhelming. The road there is full of potholes. If I was this business, I would be raking in so much money every day, I would set aside something to fix the road. It needs help. I'm glad we had a truck that could handle such a road but it was still awful. The tent camping site has no road access to drop off your equipment. You have to park by the port-a-potty's and walk your stuff to your site. We didn't realize that we had to make that trek. If we had known, we'd have picked a site closer to the road or brought something with wheels. Also, on the website, it states that they are only at 60% capacity due to COVID. However, when we went there all the tent sites were booked up and the RV sites were packed as well. I did enjoy getting oysters from the camp store and cooking them up on my BBQ. I also liked the proximity to the beach and how beautiful it was during sunset. However, it just wasn't what we expected. read more

You won't need an alarm clock here - the cows will wake you up nice and early! But that's the charm of this place: it's a ranch with a big swath of beach and dunes devoted to camping. There's dozens of spaces for RVs, tent camping, and hike-in alike! And they even have an online registration system. Spaces vary from $33-$45 for car campers depending on where you are, as well as season. I was charged $40 on the way out to split the difference since I checked in after hours. Definitely more expensive than I thought it would be to car camp! The sites are well maintained, but I would have thought there would be more amenities for $40, like maybe real bathrooms instead of port-a-potties, or a shower somewhere. There are, however, a few fire pits scattered around. And there's a small shop down at the end of the road on the beach selling hot coffee, bait, and firewood (I think). I'd recommend this place, even for the high price. The beach is fantastic, it's close to some more amazing beaches, and it wasn't too crowded during the fall season. You will definitely want to call ahead in the summer, though! read more

Just came back from a weekend camping in an RV here. We are new to RV camping so I don't have a lot to compare it to but I will try to be reasonable. The location is amazing as you have a short walk over the dunes to the ocean or if you are down at the seawall you have a water view of the inlet but it seems like they are pack like sardines. There was a good amount of space where we were camped We were in the 190's and got the last spot remaining with just a week's notice and as everywhere else was booked I felt lucky. When we arrived at our spot we couldn't really tell where our spot was as we did not see the markers. A nice neighbor directed as we parked and we realized the next day we we halfway into the site next to us. Fortunately this did not become a problem as they were tent camping and when we offered to move they said not to worry about it. Lots of dogs everywhere and for the most park the humans respected the leash law. The problem was that there was dog poop everywhere. As we were leaving on Sunday I saw one place where they offered poop bags for use. I think they need to hand out one at check in (if you have animals) AND have many, many boxes out with bag for owners and garbage cans. We had no cell service while we were there but a hike to the ocean were able to get a signal. I thought this was a bonus as it gave time to unplug. My husband did a lot of walking to check this and that on his phone. There needs to be more of a presence of employees roaming the campsites. Why? Our neighbors were a large group and they blasted music each night until 10 PM. Quiet time was at 9 PM. I guess I should be thankful they stopped at 10. Also as stated above it was hard to tell the camping spots apart so therefor there were vehicles parked everywhere. On Sunday morning some day use people wheeled in and parked in our spot with 2 large trucks. The place is so large and spread out it is really difficult to know what is what and who should be where. As this is a no hook-up area be advised the line to the 2 dump stations get long at at 11AM. The little bait shop has a few food items and sweatshirts etc. That area is quite congested and not very nice so wouldn't want to hang out. read more

Very bad experience! We did everything possible to be compliant with their vehicle per site rule! We even booked a extra site just for extra cars! The owners daughter who thought she was the queen bee even drove around the whole campground to check on us just to find out we were compliant .. be very careful coming to this place! I read more
