I love the warm clubhouse, how friendly the staff is, that it's locally owned, that it's inexpensive, that they can skate for hours without feeling cold and that it's so close to home. Inside has always been clean, they clean the ice every hour and then the skaters get a quick 15' break. This usually consists of sitting down using the restroom or grabbing a hot beverage or snack from the snack bar which is located in the clubhouse. Private parking lot or street parking available if that gets full plus there's the parking lot next to the park. Always easy to find a spot. Def recommend for any occasion. Especially at night. It's so pretty with the lights and cars driving by. Great for couple to groups to adults to kiddos. It's just a great local attraction for the winter in Fort Wayne and I feel blessed to have it in our city.

The basketball court was refinished and added sturdy end brackets for holding the backboards, cool images on the backboards, seating, and a wall mural with a basketball theme too! The restrooms were upgraded and the park was generally in great shape. But now, one of the backboards is missing and the other has the finish on the backboard damaged. What happened? Can't someone at least get a plain backboard and basket to make the court playable? Such a shame. The rest of the park seems to be in okay shape. There are lots of amenities on site: baseball field, skate park, tennis court, and on the south end, a small playground. Lots of open space and some trees for shade (other smaller ones have been planted for future shade too.) There didn't seem to be any designated parking lot for the park. There was some parking along the baseball field on the north end and some street parking. And the "shelter/restroom" is rather small, so it doesn't lend itself to be the place someone would rent. Still, if the parks department or the neighbors spent a little bit of money, the park could become a lot more functional. Review #2482

Merrifield Park is a unique park in the area. The rest (north side) of the park has several shelters, a large elevated playground with towers and slides, and a public access ramp to the river. The grounds were in great condition other than it could use a bit of watering on some of the lawn areas. Lots of parking and open space for running around or organized games that need space. I also noticed a lot of trees that had been carved into wooden sculptures left in place around the shelters. All have been coated with a rust colored treatment to preserve the images. Most feature some type of animal though one has a female image with the word Princess carved at the base. You can ride a horse, a bike or your legs. You can hear symphonic melodies made by 100s of frogs and see tons of wild life, did I mention there are sand dunes? "The Oak Openings Region is a globally rare ecosystem composed of over 130 square miles in Northwest Ohio. The land consists largely of oak savanna and grassland prairie. It is considered by The Nature Conservancy as having a similar ecological importance as the Florida Everglades and is one of the 200 "Last Great Places on Earth"." It is amazing. Check it out!

Promenade Park opened in 2019 as the first phase in Fort Wayne's Riverfront Fort Wayne project. Main features include Canoeing and Kayaking, a very cool fountain, games, a pavilion, picnic tables, an amazing playground, a snack bar, a stage, trails and, of course, water. The park is relatively small at 4 acres, but they really have laid it out beautifully and they have quite a bit here. Promenade Park is a KultureCity.org Sensory InclusiveTM Certified Venue. Accessibility features include accessibility to the trails, kayak/canoe launch, main entrance, picnic areas, playground (ground level play features), an accessible restroom, accessible signage, accessible swings, accessible water fountains/bottle fillers, and more. Accessible parking is available along Wells Street (adjacent to the pavilion). The garden area is designed specifically to provide visual and sensory separation. There's tactile ribbon embedded in the pavement throughout the park (this helps people who are blind/low-vision). Pathways are extra wide and can accommodate multiple wheelchairs. Honestly, I was blown away here and so thrilled I took the time to stop and check this out. I'm likely planning an event in Fort Wayne soon, and there's no question I'll be returning to this beautiful urban park.
