I had invited at least 45 people to attend the funeral, and for a large portion of the service, it went smoothly and as intended. It was only until my ex wife arrived that everything started to go downhill. Being the petty ex-partner she was, she came with hellfire and brimstone following behind her. As soon as she arrived, she began throwing accusations at me and my guests that my son was not dead, and instead, was claiming that we were holding her husband hostage within the coffin in the middle of the room. We all collectively laughed at her, brushing off her incoherent screeching as nothing more than delusion. When she began using the cake knife as a weapon, and the punch bowl ladle as a makeshift blunt object, the staff promptly called in their bouncer "Jaquan" to deal with the situation. Police were immediately called, and dragged the demented woman away from the premise. We soon all raised a toast to my son as he was lowered into his grave, ignoring the desperate and aggressive pounding coming from inside the coffin. Overall, I was very pleased with my time here at Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory, and would recommend their wonderful services for any untimely passing of any friend or family member you may have.

If I could give the zero stars I would. I unexpectedly lost my beloved husband July 23. He died…read moreof a head injury from a fall at home. He was sent to the coroner for autopsy. I was not allowed to see him at all. Finally he was released to the funeral home. We were planning to have have him cremated per his wishes. The people at the funeral home gave us an "appointment" that we could see his body. When my daughter and granddaughter, and I arrived, I was desperate to see him. I was told no, we had time do the paperwork first. She meant pay. She seemed to be intentionally stalling and dragging out the paperwork. I got very upset because all I could think about was telling my beloved husband goodbye and that I loved him one last time. She walked out and told me that she couldn't deal with me. Well, I'm sorry but the hurt feelings could have been avoided if she had just let us see him FIRST. Then, when the paperwork was finally finished, she told us we had 10 minutes. I told her that the man told us over the phone 15 to 20 minutes. It was for "ID only". She pushed a paper across the table and told me to look right there as she pointed, this is the policy. I just burst into tears. She led us back to the room where he lay and let us in. We stayed with him for a while, said our goodbyes and then we left. Losing your mate if 36 years, unexpectedly, to a horrible accident, and having him taken away to the coroner is awful enough but to be treated like we were at this funeral home, no compassion at all for the newly widowed wife or family. I wish we had never even heard the name Hughes funeral home. I strongly recommend people, that you start planning now and avoid this funeral home. My husband and I were new to the area and had no idea. When you are in a business where people are devastated by the loss of a loved one, you dont add to the pain which these people did.

I knew he wanted to be cremated and placed in the memorial wall at the Barrancas Cemetery in Pensacola NAS. So I did a Google search, I saw that this place was the closest funeral home to NAS that was open, and I figured that they've done the Barrancas thing before, so I called them. What followed next was service that was so wonderful that it took a huge load off of my mind. During our initial meeting, everyone was so kind and delivered customer service like Chick-fil-A employees. They have different service packages based on the amount of life insurance there is, which is actually pretty nice, because you don't even get bothered with seeing the various boxes or flower arrangements that you can't afford. I hate to talk about it so nonchalantly, but it was like building a burger at a gourmet burger restaurant. We just went down the list checking off stuff together. The box, the flowers, the prayer cards, the catering packages. It was really easy and nice. They will take your photos, digital or tangible, and add them all to the slide show at the service for you. So you don't have to worry about scanning them all yourself. Also, side note, if you have some real photos that you've been watching to make digital, just give them a flash drive during the photo process and they'll put them all on it for you. So nice. The actual service itself went seamlessly. We showed up and everything was set up perfectly. The priest we hired did a good job, and the funeral home was able to coordinate wonderfully with the full Naval honors that he was given due to his service. The catering was laid out for us and the staff there was going around asking everyone if they needed anything, taking trash from us, and just being super helpful in general. Overall, this place was perfect. I couldn't imagine them going anymore above and beyond for me and my family during our time of turmoil. If you're looking for somewhere to go and you're reading this review, call them. I vouch for them.

Todd came in with the best price but also told me how to save even more, had to do a lot of the leg work myself but that was part of the goal. he enabled my mother to have a dignified transition without a lot of the added-on costs of unneeded services. todd was at least 40% cheaper in initial package costs, he was compassionate and when i needed him he was there for me and my family member.

On the day of my dad's burial, I asked if Todd had put my mom's remains in the casket with my dad. He told me he didn't have my mom's remains. After talking to my brother, he told me he had handed her remains to Todd personally. I told Todd this and he wanted my brother to look in his car to see if they were still there. I told him NO he had them. He then looked again and discovered they were in a Cabinet, that his wife had put them in there by mistake. Then he messed up the address for my dad's death certificate and it took 8 weeks to get. My brother set up an appointment with him to pick up the certificates after Todd had supposedly fixed the problem. When my brother arrived at Todd's office, Todd was late and asked my brother "Can I help you?", to which my brother said, "I talked to you on the phone and made an appointment to pick up my father's death certificates 15 mins ago". Todd did NOT have the certificates and my brother had to go to the health department office and get the situation straightened out himself. Needless to say an all-around bad experience with Todd Cason.

The staff was exceptional at working with us through the entire process. We wanted to have a memorial in Florida, and the funeral in Iowa. They worked with us to get everything into one contract to accommodate the FEMA requirements for COVID deaths. Having to unexpectedly plan a parent's funeral is not an easy task. My mother had COVID as well so my brother and I took charge on the funeral planning. The staff walked us through everything, and made sure we were comfortable with all of the arrangements. The memorial service was beautiful; I can't speak for my father cause even though he was there he wasn't really "there".. if you know what I mean, but I think he would have appreciated it. At the end of the service they helped to load up the flowers and my dad into my truck.... I guess now would be a good time to mention he was cremated. and provided us with enough obituary pamphlet things for the Iowa funeral as well. Fun fact, did you know many funeral homes do not perform onsite cremations? I didn't know that either, but Harper Morris does. This help to put us at ease knowing we were getting our dad back and not someone else by mistake. Selecting a funeral home for an unexpected death was a daunting task, but they made the whole process extremely easy. Thank you to Harper Morris for their care and consideration throughout the entire process.
