I had the best experience at Raven Row and I will never go anywhere else to get my haircut from now on! Vanessa is truly a curl queen. She knows her stuff and is the best of the best when it comes to curly hair. Every other haircut I've gotten in my life, I've walked out of the salon hating the way it was styled; after Vanessa, I spend every morning trying to replicate what she did and make my hair look as perfect! It's been almost a month since I've gotten my haircut and I could not be more pleased. It has been over a month since I got my curly cut with Vanessa, and I'm so happy with my haircut!   Before coming to Raven Row, most of my experiences at hair salons had been quite upsetting. Nobody seemed to know how to cut my curly hair. Stylists would give me a regular hair cut - washing my hair, combing and cutting it wet, and blow-drying it or leaving it half-dry, completely frizzy from being brushed and touched incessantly. I came out of those salons looking and feeling like a monster. I stopped going to salons altogether, and have asked my grandma to cut my hair for years.   A couple of months ago, I met a friend with the most beautiful curly hair, and immediately asked her where she got her haircut. When she recommended Vanessa, a curly hair specialist, I knew my life was about to turn a page. Vanessa is clearly immensely knowledgeable, with years of experience working with different curl types. She immediately diagnosed my hair (it loves to shrink and frizz) and was able to cut and style it beautifully. She answered all my questions and gave me tips for handling and styling my hair on my own. This was the first time I've walked out of a hair salon feeling like a princess. Raven Row Salon is a VIBE! First off, it is immediately evident how much they value clear communication and understanding. Their online appointment form requires 3 photos to be uploaded (for new clients) of the style you're hoping for. I've never had a stylist or salon do this. Such a simple gesture to ensure mutual understanding and starting off on the same page. On arrival, you will be struck at how inviting of an atmosphere it is. Their jungle-plant-filled space has tons of natural light and very warm, hospitable people. ALLLLLL the stylist praise goes to Suni! I knew they had to cut my hair after reading client testimonials and looking through past client cuts. I walked into the salon unhappy and self-conscious with my current look. With some TLC and ARTISTRY by Suni, I walked out with a completely transformed hairstyle that was everything I had been envisioning! Their technique, attention to detail, and skill is unlike any other stylist I've encountered. If that wasn't enough, another thing I appreciated was the time Suni took to ask me what my daily routine was and tailor the post-wash styling to what was practical for me. Well, I thought I loved Raven Row Salon... Until today. I've been sick for the last 10 days with some horrible virus and had to reschedule a couple of appointments with Heidi (whom, by the way, I believe, is a very talented artist.) I was under the impression that if I canceled an appointment or rescheduled the day before, I would only be charged 50% of the charges so I wrote them immediately last night when I started Getting sick. I threw up all night long and just could not make it to my appointment nor did I want to get anybody in the salon sick! Instead of even speaking to me, working with me at all, they just charged me 100% and would have nothing else to do with me. They cut me off from online booking and said I was abusive when I was practically *begging* them to please rebook me with Heidi. I said that I was sorry that I had gotten grouchy with them when I did not understand their policy. I got grouchy, because I had literally been up all night vomiting my guts up. Not exactly something that puts one in a beautiful mood. And, I truly did not understand that I would be charged 100%, it was a simple mistake but they're hard asses! Heidi's good, but I'll never see her again and now I have to find someone else to help me out. I can't believe they would cut me off and be so unkind! I'm sure part of it is because I have only been there a couple of times and they don't know me very well. I even asked to speak to Heidi personally, so that I could explain to her what has been going on, but they would not even allow that! If they knew *half* of how badly, I felt all week, they would never have done such a thing. No one would want to be treated like this. For that, I say stay away. Now, I have to address further, because I never did anything to threaten. I also did not say repeatedly that I did not want to ever return to the salon. Raven mentions that below, but she is BLATANTLY lying. I was cut off from making online appointments, so I mentioned that I could come in and make an appointment if Raven would not let me book online. I'm not a felon who would come in and punch her lights out. That's just absurd! I did not receive any sort of accommodation when it came to cancellation fees. (I asked for 50% and was told no and see the full charge on my credit card so I don't know what she's talking about there.) In fact, I was very apologetic, and this is actually exactly what I said to her and one of my text messages verbatim: "I am sorry that I was not feeling well and did not understand that you were going to take 100%! I am sorry that I was grouchy but I certainly don't think that Heidi really wants to lose business just because somebody got sick! It's not fair, and it's UNKIND! You too could get sick and then what? How would you like to be treated? Would you like to be cut off?" And, as far as anybody ever speaking policies to me, when I had to cancel the first time, that is just not true! No one mentioned to me that they were waving fees at ANY TIME because I think I got my message to them on time... At least I tried to. But no one ever said to me they had waived fees, which is very very nice; I would have thanked them for that. And, Nobody ever told me ANYTHING about any policies. That is why I was confused. I'm not an idiot, but I was confused about the policy. I thought it would be a 50% charge and it was 100% . After posting this review, Raven refunded my money, so I have to credit her for that and thank her. It remains that I simply didn't understand their policy. Perhaps it's because they never did explain it to me... ? So, let's be real here. I admit that I was grouchy and admitted that immediately, but I was still cut off from my appointment or any access to making a new one. Wouldn't that anger any customer? Raven, I know you *think* you're being very sweet and accommodating. It's clear you think you are, but you're not. "Shift blame?" I don't know what you're talking about there. I took full responsibility for being grouchy with your team and apologized many times. I don't even know how the blame could be shifted unless you just want me to say, "OK! Yep, I was threatening you and I want to hurt you and you're right, Raven." That's just not going to happen because that's not how it happened. I just wanted to be treated with kindness and consideration. Not the best place for curls. I was in Texas for a while and needed a haircut badly. I have thin, curly hair very prone to dryness, and it was not loving the TX summer weather! I went to Raven Row just for a trim, to get some split ends removed, some minor shaping, and to get some advice on how to help my curls handle the southern weather, which I was new to. Overall I left pretty disappointed. The haircut was barely anything - I still have a ton of split ends, and no shaping or anything. It was like I just got my hair washed for $120. The reason this is 3 stars is because my hair wasn't destroyed, I pretty much just wasted my haircare budget. My stylist didn't really believe that I didn't use heat tools and that I deep-conditioned my hair regularly. I never use curling or flat irons, and I do a conditioning mask once a week. I told her that my hair isn't damaged, it's just really prone to dryness, and I've figured out how to make it happy in CA weather, and just need some help with TX. She told me to condition it and scoffed when I said I didn't use heat tools as if I was lying. Thanks? What really upset me was I left with wet hair. I know curls can be challenging, but there is no reason you should leave a salon after a haircut that cost over $120 feeling like a stringy sewer rat instead of a pretty princess. My stylist told me my scalp issues were probably because my hair takes too long to dry, leaving my scalp wet for too long, then proceeded to call her job done when my hair was still wet. She half diffused it, and when I asked why it can't be dry, she told me that when I am on my own, I should just blow dry partially. Ok, but I am not on my own, I am paying what I consider a lot of money, so I should have dry hair please. She also applied hair oil to my half dry hair, breaking any curls that were trying to form. As soon as I stepped outside into the humidity, my curls broke into a frizzy, knotted ball. My appointment ended super fast as I barely got a haircut and I got no styling. I saw Suni for a haircut and partial highlights in March. The salon is absolutely lovely, with great natural light and an abundance of very healthy, vibrant and verdant plants throughout the space, which made me feel very happy! Suni was super enthusiastic and sweet from the jump and was really excited about what I wanted to do. I left really loving the cut, but I was a little unsure about the color/tone of the highlights, *but* as with any big change, I wanted to give it a moment and let it settle in. A few days later I was still feeling they were a bit too golden than what I was going for and called the salon, and they got me back in to see Suni in good time. Suni went above and beyond in fixing the issue, even adding a few more highlights in the front to get more of what I was looking for, toning out the golden and doing a root smudge to even out the tone at the top. She also threw on a smoothing treatment! I really appreciate the attention to detail and the time she put in to make it so gorgeous! This was my first time going to a salon to have my hair done in over a decade. I use to hate going when I was younger because the stylists would make fun of my hair for being too "frizzy" and thin but after learning I had a curl pattern , I stopped straightening my hair every day and started learning how to embrace my natural hair. I've been to Raven many years ago but stopped and decided to come back. I went on the whim and scheduled with Dani. Glad with my choice. I told her I wanted to keep the length and she suggested Farrah Fawcett bangs to frame the face. Shampoo time came and she washed the scalp and hair thoroughly while giving simple techniques. Cutting came and went, she blow dried my hair. She was so gentle that I was going in and out of sleep. My hair was baby soft with the Innersence products. I got a shag haircut from Michelle and it was excellent. This was my first time at this salon and I'll be back- however not too soon because it is pricey! I love the interior of this studio which is light and airy with tons of large plants, however the shampoo basins seem to be squeezed in super tight next to each other. I went to Katy based on seeing another Asian girl with amazing hair. As you can see in my picture I let my roots grow out (middle)and Katy did a reverse balayage to blend the root growth to my highlights. It is SOOOO HARD finding someone that cuts curly hair that you actually like.... look no further, Raven Row Salon is for YOU! Most, if not all, of their stylists know how to cut curly hair. I love being confident enough to book with any stylist here. I've cut my hair here twice before. Once with Rae and the most recent time, I got it cut by their newest stylist, Vanessa. Both Rae and Vanessa did a fabulous job.... They both have curly hair themselves so I felt confident that they really understood me on a deeper level. This location is located in the triangle so there is PLENTY street parking and garage parking spots available. What I absolutely LOVE and ADMIRE about this place is that the inside looks like a jungle. There are plants EVERYWHERE.... in every corner. It really makes the space come alive. COVID Rules: When you get to the salon for your appt, you have to call them BEFORE you can go inside and tell them you are outside, then they will let you in. They DO sanitize you and check your temperature as soon as you walk in. They DO require you to wear a mask over your nose and face. They have plexi glass in between you and the person you sit next to during the washing phase of your haircut. Everything here felt very COVID safe. Raven Row salon itself is very cute, and very modern. I appreciate the number of plants everywhere. Also, the location at the Triangle is convenient, with easy parking and bus access, and easily walkable to a couple small restaurants if you arrive early. I always appreciated how quickly the salon responded to my email requests for availability, which made booking so much easier. Every haircut I've received here has been fine, and so I'm not naming any stylists specifically in this review. Beyond these things, I think the customer service here is just a little off. I never felt comfortable, or like I was "cool" enough or knowledgeable enough about hair to get the best out of this salon. I typically arrive on time for appointments, but usually had to wait 5-20 minutes to be seated. Usually I was offered water while I waited. I originally saw a stylist who had been recommended to me for color. I wanted to try something bold: a blue/grey cool balayage. The consultation went well, the stylist assured me what I wanted (or something very similar, suited to my hair) was possible. In the couple weeks between consult/haircut and my color appointment, that stylist departed the salon. Raven Row called me to try to rebook with a different stylist a couple days before the scheduled appointment. The new stylist was less confidant in the plan, and she told me so. Instead of blue, we went violet instead. When I saw the bowl of color, it looked so dark. Since I had never had a bold color applied before, I didn't really know how or what to ask about what was happening. When I tried to understand, I was told it would fade out to be a lighter color after a few washes, and would last longer for it. The end result was a dark violet, very similar in tone to my dark brown hair, especially in the dark. My coworkers didn't notice for two days. It really did grow on me, though it was more magenta than I'd hoped. It also lasted nicely for several months with minimal maintenance. I got tons of compliments. But paying 300+ dollars for something I hadn't at all expected left me feeling like I didn't have the knowledge or ability to get my value out of Raven Row. I felt sad, and a little dumb, even as someone who's not all that connected to her hair. When I finally cut the lightened hair off, it was a huge weight off my shoulders (ha) because it had become so dry, no matter what conditioner I used. Every haircut I've received here has been fine, and so I'm not naming any stylists specifically in this review. Even this color experience tuned out okay. It was not enough to send me elsewhere, but it did contribute to my overall feeling of discomfort with the salon over my several visits. Finally, when I tried to schedule a haircut via email I was told that I would need to call and provide a credit card, just in case I didn't show. I had never no-showed for an appointment before. I know a lot of salons are doing this these days, and I do understand how no-shows impact the business, but considering how maneuvered and underwhelmed I had already been, it really wasn't worth it. I've since found a place that doesn't make me feel uneducated or silly for not being a hair expert. TLDR: A little expensive and condescending, with inconsistent customer service, but fine haircuts. If you're a hair novice or an introvert, there are better options. read more

Ashley has consistently done an amazing job cutting, coloring, and styling my hair. She really understands the vision I have for my hair - which is so rare! I have a particularly finicky industrial piercing and everyone has been extra careful in making sure not to touch or bump it. I am never going ANYWHERE else. It is honestly the best salon I've ever been to. I found them through Instagram and it lives up to expectation. I don't trust a lot of people with my hair but this was the only place I could find a balayage appointment before my college Graduation in two weeks (I'm glad it was). I booked with Shelby, and I told her because my hair was so thin and dark I didn't expect much lift, even though I REALLY wanted to get to a sandy/honey blonde. Once Shelby and Brynne started painting and toning, my hair went from extremely dark brown to the actual color I wanted to begin with. Today I went to get my hair done and let me tell you, my stylist performed a holiday miracle. I had a dreadful case of COVID hair. It's was what happens when you are working from home with kids and only venture out to HEB. Rae took her time to handle my unfortunate situation. She is a curly hair goddess who gave my hair the desperate attention it needed. The color looks great and the curls look gorgeous instead or their usual pandemic frizz fest.
