I specifically asked the girl to not take too much off of my inner brows and she goes on to do exactly what I told her not to do, taking too much off of my right brow. It was very rushed. I have to say- I am a TOUGH critic... Virgo gal who notices everything. That said- am fair. What this place lacks in frills and decor, it makes up for with reasonable rates, skilled brow specialists, and fast professional service. I used to love getting my eyebrows done by Pretti, who was phenomenally skilled. I have been seeing her for about 5 years and she has really respected my preferences and worked well to build up my thin brows! I would love to find out where she went because I would love to keep employing her for my brows! But she no longer works there so I see a person named Deepa instead. Deepa is great and is following the footsteps of Pretti as a skilled professional! The rates went up slightly by $5 from 10 to $15, which is understandable given the time and place! Love that it is affordably priced! This is probably the lowest you'll pay for professional threading services in the SB area. I've been here a couple of times now and have always been happy with how my brows turned out. The girls are professional and quick. Came most recently on a Sunday and it was packed! They have a clipboard for customers to sign in and then they call you by name. There were two girls working so it went by pretty quickly, I probably waited 15-20 minutes. I love that they do free brows on your birthday with a valid ID as well! read more

Pretty hurts... Beyoncé was on to something! Utilizing the practice of threading to achieve perfectly shaped eyebrows without random hairs is part of an uncomfort able beautification process. After multiple attempts of having my brows waxed at various spas and as a result having my skin break out horribly, I went to the next option: threading. I have been a regular at Layla for the last year and a half where it costs $10 (+tip -- these gals work hard using their hands and teeth to thread all day long...) to have my eyebrows threaded. I use to always see Sheila who was super sweet, very skilled and talkative but has since left. Their staff turnover appears to be high with a new, unfamiliar gal working there every month or so that I visit. On two occasions, I have had the horrors of skin tears from them pulling the skin with the hair follicles. It is painful and feels like sunburn or a sliver lodged in a sensitive part of your finger. Unfortunately it happened this past week again (see photo). Yet, pretty hurts and decide to take the risk. When you enter, you sign up on a sheet to wait in line for your turn. However, I will usually point to a specific gal to do my brows that takes her time, is thorough and hence does not cause skin tears. Since it is hit or miss, and the wait varies drastically from 5 minutes to half an hour, I give Layla a solid 3-star rating. I am unfamiliar with another place in town that offers threading at such a reasonable cost. Plus, I enjoy seeing other men have the same service done almost every time I visit so I don't feel outnumbered. They too leave with watery eyes. :X Be sure the gal offers you a tissue and wipes your brows with witch hazel AND aloe vera afterward​ to help ease the discomfort. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! I've been coming to Layla's and getting my eyebrows threaded by Preeti religiously going on two years now and I live in San Diego. The gals are amazing, their customer service and attention to detail is superb and the store is nice and clean. My eyebrows are a bit difficult to work on given that they both grow completely different in addition to one being round and the other arched. Preeti does a phenomenal with them. She takes her time to insure they always come out perfectly even. In the almost two years that I have been going to her I have never left disappointed, on the contrary; I always leave there looking and feeling even more beautiful. One of the many reasons I love to tip her way more than what my eyebrows cost, she is totally worth every dollar spent. For years I struggled with my eyebrows, growth, shape, and symmetrically. I cannot be more grateful for Preeti. She truly does a great job/a true artist. My eyebrows even look great grown out. I totally recommend Layla's especially her (Preeti). I went to school in Santa Barbara and all my friends from college get their eyebrows threaded by her, and her only; no matter the gender. Honestly not worth the money. Don't get me wrong, they don't always do a bad job (pretty sure Sonya is the only one who knows what she's doing) but I think it's worse that whoever owns the place doesn't seem to care about providing consistent quality. I guess they let you pass up on paying after they mess you up (which is probably the bare minimum when it comes to these kinds of services) but I'm pretty sure many of us who get our eyebrows done HATE to see it happen--my eyebrows take some time to grow in yk? Like I can tell the girl doing my brows clearly doesn't know what she's doing--do I really need to scream for help? I have no doubt the people who drop five stars have a regular worker they like to see, but if it's your first time or you don't want to wait for specific workers, seriously pass this place up. Terrible experience. They literally made my eyebrows so uneven, there is now a gap on my left eyebrow and they are very uneven. I am very disappointed with not only the performance but the unwelcoming and rude service. They do not care for their customers and do such a half a*s job. The girls are not trained enough to do eyebrows and they leave hair is places where it seems like common sense would be to take off. And trying to communicate with them is very hard. I come to Layla Threading because there are not that many places that offer threading around the Santa Barbara/Goleta area. They usually don't have too long wait so I can get in and out which is always a bonus. There was only one time in the past that I had to wait an hour. That was too long and I should have went back at another time. Yet they do have a sign in sheet so you know your place in line. All of the ladies I have had do my eyebrows do a good job. My eyebrows are a little more difficult to thread because they are blonde and can be difficult to see depending on the angle. The lady I had this time was very caring and asked me a few times how I was doing which was very sweet of her. I don't remember her name but she did a great job and I am happy with the way my eyebrows look. They also offer aloe vera or witch hazel on a cotton ball to soothe your skin afterwards. Perhaps they should consider getting the Yelp Waitlist feature ;). read more

I hate going to Michelle but I was in a rush and she was the only one available. Awful. Horrendous. She needs to be fired. On multiple occasions she's taken skin off/given me cuts and every time I get threaded by her, I get bumps all over my face and this time, I went in to have my perfectly thick eyebrows cleaned up (mind you just a few grown out hairs) -- I came up with pencil thin eyebrows and the front portion of one of my eyebrows missing. I am BEYOND upset and furious. Tipped her because I didn't notice until I came home (again, I was in a rush). Wish I could get my money back. read more

I asked for thinner and to keep my arches and I had to go home a pluck myself because I kept asking for a shape and to thin out my thick brows. I've been going to Layla's for almost a decade now. I've been coming to get my eyebrows and upper lip done. I have had many of the ladies do my threading and my absolute favorite is Sonia. She is super friendly and careful with my face. Sonia has NEVER given me a skin tear (given me a scab) I have to say those are so irritating because you have to wait for your face to heal. I feel that one of the most important things with being a threading place that handles your eyebrows which are right across your face for everyone to see is CONSISTENCY. I usually go in and just ask for a clean up and have had no problems. I get plenty of compliments on my eyebrows. I went in today and there was a new girl (not sure of her name, not one of the regular people I've seen there before). I asked for my usual cleanup and she not only left my eyebrows incredibly uneven, but also VERY thin and highly shortened. I was not happy at all. When I paid and left she still asked me if I wanted to leave a tip. It's taken me a while to grow out my eyebrows and have them in the shape I wanted and now I have to deal with this weird shape and short length until I can grow them out again. Positive experience during a walk-in appointment I had a few days ago. I didn't know about this place but just happened to see it after stopping at Nordstrom's. If you don't have an appointment they ask you to put your name down, along with what you need done, and the attendant you prefer. Since I had never been I didn't make a preference, so they took me as soon as someone was available. For my brows and upper lip it was $16 (not including tip). I'm overall pleased with my experience and wish I would've gotten my threaders name. Will definitely come back. read more

If you end up at laylas ask for SONIA(: she is super nice, social, and welcoming to her costumers. she's been my girl for 2 years now and I can honestly say she has left my eyebrows LOOKING AMAZING!!!!!!
