A little hidden gem. If I was ever needing a coffee shop to work in I would choose this one. It's quiet and very spacious

They also make their smear (cream cheese) in house and slice their own lox (smoked salmon). The salmon was particularly impressive, it just melts. Their bagels are on the pricier side, but they are large, fresh, and delicious. I've tried my classic order (sesame, scallion smear, lox) and one of their bagel sandwiches (eggs, bacon, tomato, cheese), which are very hearty. They have breakfast and lunch options. They were out of the chicken salad when I stopped in, their egg salad was very good though. The were hustling on a Sunday afternoon, a really hard working staff here, but the staff who helped me remained friendly. I'm excited to try some of their more creative options.

The bagel was glorious (as always), bacon was heavenly, chicken salad was exactly right, tomato was fresh, the potato salad and pickle on the side were flavorful and a nice bonus. I saved half for later, yet it was filling and large enough to require two hands each time. The Morning Stimulus (two scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado spread, red onion, tomato, melted cheddar cheese, and I get mine on an asiago or everything bagel) is my go-to breakfast order. Trust me and add a hash brown on it for extra crunchy texture. The staff is friendly. The inside is tidy with a handful of tables if you want to dine in, but they package everything very well if you take your order to go. Everyone I've brought in has been impressed with the deliciousness, quality, and size of the portions. Bagel Spot is a 10 out of 5.

The man working here was pleasant and eager to serve. He told me he had been here for many years and I will enjoy the bagels and apologized for cash only. I am not sure why he does not accept credit but luckily I had enough to pay. The other customer agreed the bagels were good. It is a very small shop that does not carry much else, there were the bagels in bins and a list of cream cheese flavors. Everything was moderately priced and I did want to try their lox but it was the priciest sandwich so I went with a dozen bagels and a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. The man microwaved the toppings and added it to the bagel but did not cut the sandwich in two. I was a bit suspicious of the cooking method but the sandwich was fairly decent, but pretty thin. The bagels themselves were pretty tasty. They had the nice shine on the outside and chewy on the inside. I have not had enough bagels in New York to actually compare but very comparable to the ones you might get at the smaller West Bloomfield shops. But the bagels themselves are tiny. Shockingly small. Really you could eat two to be the equivalent of one bagel from yesteryear. I paid $11.50 for a dozen, so not bad, especially since one is listed as $1.25. Would I go back? Probably. I did enjoy the taste, texture, and style of the bagel. Might I try a different location? Yes. There is one in Commerce that appears to be bigger and offer a larger selection. I am not sure if they are related, same company, same recipe...a franchise? They are not listed together online but have the same menu. The prices online are slightly different in Commerce and I am not sure if they take credit cards over there. But the ones here did taste fresh.

This place is just about the bagel, no sit down or fancy coffee, the bagels are the star of the show! when I arrived, the line was to the door, but things moved rather quickly. I ordered a half a dozen bagels, which were still warm and a container of cream cheese. Staff were friendly and very efficient. I would certainly recommend NY Bagel if you're looking for something more authentic!

I am more familiar with the New York Bagel in Ferndale and used to frequent that location several times a week while I worked in the neighborhood. I was surprised by the smaller footprint here. While it seems the same variety of bagels is carried at both locations, I'm not certain if the bagels are made here, as they were at the Ferndale location. Did I miss it because I was busy checking out the various cream cheeses? Or too busy trying to get out of other people's way? As I mentioned, it is a much smaller shop. I had the sesame bagel, which was a bit more dense than I remember. This could be because it was later in the day, and bagels have a short shelf life. Service was fine.

There were at least six people "working"--standing around talking loudly with the radio blasting, mainly--and even though I was just getting a single bagel with cream cheese it took forever. And no one else was even in the store. At a certain point, the manager/owner called over to me and said "we're having trouble with the toaster." I had been super clear that I wanted it "not toasted." Then because he could tell I was irritated and it had been, well, forever, he started scolding the workers about talking too much, the music being too loud, etc., to no avail. They just kept going. And when the time came to finally hand me my bagel, there was no apology, "I'm sorry," or any acknowledgement at all that it had been a really inappropriately long time that I had been waiting--again, with no one else in the store. And six employees working. The sad thing is that the bagels at this place are pretty good, about the best you are going to get in metro Detroit, but I won't be back. Management needs to step up in this place and enact a more professional approach to customer service.
