We stayed in Amarillo en route to Colorado. We found Lazy Gator on Yelp and decided with such good reviews we should try it out. My husband had fried gator and I had fried shrimp. I really enjoyed his tartar suave with my shrimp so maybe ask for it if you liked tartar sauce. We were both very pleased with our meal. Wow! It has been a long time since a meal has brought a tear to my eye for some reason other than heat level. This is one of the best meals I have ever put in my mouth. I hate to leave this message as Lazy Gator has become a popular choose by my family. Every other experience has been wonderful but Courtney (cook/manager/?) and Ester (waitress) ruined our experience. My mother and I both ordered the chargrilled wedge salad, mine with grilled shrimp. My mother did not want meat on her salad. As you can see in the image below, there are no chargrilled blackened lines from the grate of the grill. The edges of the lettuce are a darker green, wilted look as if some heat was applied but no where chargrilled. The chargrilled wedge salad is actually more expensive than a regular wedge salad so I asked our waitress to remove the chargrilled cost. My mothers salad also came out with shrimp on it which increased the cost. We did not ask that to be taken off but rather just informed the waitress of the mistake. I benefitted from the mistake and got extra shrimp, easily removed from her salad and added to mine. Not a big deal. The chargrilled does actually change the entire flavor of the salad so it was disappointing. My complaint comes in with Courtney behaving as a manger/cook comes to our table and said she personally grilled the lettuce and repeated that with any correspondence from us. She then pointed to the green wilted edges and said see it was chargrilled. I was frustrated at this point and said I can see you personally placed the lettuce on the grill but you didn't press it or leave it long enough then because it obviously had no grilled lines. She shrugged her shoulders, repeated again that she personally cooked our salads and knows it was cooked correctly as she walked away. I guess she is the only cook on a Sunday lunch rush because that would be the only way she would know she cooked it. So I will allow she cooked it, she needs some better training then. Like I said earlier, our experiences here have always been wonderful but these two ladies ruined our lunch this day. Even if Courtney personally chargrilled the salad, we weren't happy with it. Her smart mouth and bad attitude was absolutely hateful from the moment she walked up to our table until she walked away. The waitress being about as bad as her. Then we get the check and guess what...we paid for extra shrimp (which I did eat so fair game) and chargrilled cost for both salads. The least that could have been done is just remove the grilled cost and say I am sorry you weren't happy this time around. The younger group of workers have been a joy to deal with and the two older ladies waiting tables at lunch that day were full of attitude. One of them didn't wait on us but you could see it in the way she carried herself and spoke to her tables by us. We have also had her before, they both just carry themselves like they are pissed off at the world. This is my first review on a restaurant I have ever done. And I hate it being one of my favorite places but Courtney managing/cooking the older ladies waiting tables, we won't be back. The dining room is a little uncomfortable with a large number of bar stool tables so don't expect a comfy cozy atmosphere where you can chill for long period of time. We waited for at least 30 mins for a table to have someone that just walked in with a similar name take our table, and the hostesses only answer was for us to wait another 15 mins. Got to the table and didn't have anyone check on us for another 20 mins. The girl that finally checked on us was very nice, but didn't put our drink orders in the first time so we waited another 20 mins for a drink (they weren't that busy at 3:00 on a Saturday). We came on a busy Saturday night. We waited about 20 minutes or so for seating. They did have a lot of Cajun food options including gumbo, alligator, po boys. I ordered a Cajun pasta. The flavor was generic, but the pasta was GREASY. I've never had greasy pasta before. I could literally scoop the oil out of the pasta with my spoon.
