The Lazy Gator just didn't do it for me. The staff (hostess, waitress) were friendly, and they had one of my favorite beers on tap (Abita Purple Haze); however, this is a restaurant so the food should be front and center. I went with the Nola Nachos since other Yelpers recommended them. The serving was large, but several of the tortilla chips were burnt and others tasted like the lid came off the salt shaker. They had too much cheese, so much in fact that large areas of cheese weren't even melted. The meat was heavy on the jalapeño sausage, but light on the crawfish and shrimp. Maybe a cool place to hang out and watch the game (lots of TVs), but I cannot recommend it for food. read more

Catching lunch here before heading home. Started with the gator appetizer- the sauce is good but lite on spice. I ordered the mango jalapeño tuna, medium rare. The tuna was fresh but the sauce was more like a sweet jelly. I was expecting some sweetness with the mango, but this was more than I expected. My brother in law tried the black cat and loved it. Mom ordered the seared shrimp and my wife tried the soup and salad - the soup was the shrimp and scallop chowder. Both of them agreed it was good but short of great. I have only been to Lazy Gator once. But my children, G.Kids and I all enjoyed it immensely. The atmosphere is casual and family oriented. The menu is full of varied and interesting items and our food was delicious! I recommend this eatery whole heartedly! read more

Came for lunch. I had the fried catfish and my husband had the blackened. There was so much I couldn't get it all and my hubby liked the blackened catfish. Went there to celebrate a fruend's birthday. Decor is so-so casual. Table was a rock'n'roller - needed to be replaced which was odd considering the restaurant is fairly new. Ordered calamari on the appetizer. There were 6 fish-stick looking things that could not be identified as calamari. Didn't really taste like it. $9 for this appetizer. Remoulade was good. Shrimp po'boy was ok - nothing special. Not on my top 10 Cajun places. read more

The gator bites were cooked way to long... only 3 pieces were large enough to be tasty. I'm sure if the entire order could have been better. The sauce is very tasty and improved the over cooked appetizer. The fried catfish was amazing and well worth the wait for the waffle sweet potato side. The pasta dish that I chose had a spicy cajun sauce and the flavor was wonderful but it was light on the seafood. Overall I would try again when I have more disposable income. The manager did visit 3 of the 4 table being served at the time then made a second tour to visit a new table and back to the bar. The server that attended our questions and meal was amazing and I admired her attentive kindness. read more

How disappointing! We called today to place a to go order which they are not currently taking - ok. My husband went in and sat at the bar and ordered our poboys - a Cajun born in Louisiana was excited about home town food. The catfish was ok - but overall VERY disappointing especially since we ordered shrimp. After driving all the way back to Canyon - we decided it wasn't worth the effort to go back. And who puts cole slaw on poboys - yuck! We thought that was an extra side. Next time will ask for it dressed like back home! Wrong order and very minimal amount of fish on poboy! Fabulous. Scallops are to die for and baked oysters were beyond. Smoky and flavorful. Gumbo has a nice roux that you rarely see in restaurant fare. Overall it is a great experience and service is on point. They didn't rush us even though they had a rush of customers. Highly recommend and can't wait to try everything on the menu. read more

I can't really recommend this place. It's more of a sports bar that sells cajunish food. They had things like catfish and alligator but I don't recall other stuff like jambalaya or red beans are rice which are Cajun staples. I had the gumbo and it came on more of a plate than bowl and there really wasn't much food. It tasted like some sort of canned or mix they threw together. The flavor really was bland with a good amount of spice to cover it up. The service was good and our waitress was kind. And that was about the only good thing about the place. So excited to FINALLY have some seafood options in Amarillo! Every time we visit a new place, we try to check out several different menu items and share so you can get a decent variety. This time we had Blue point oysters on the 1/2 shell, (so good!!! The horseradish will light you up too!) jalapeño scallops (absolutely MUST try these!) blackened Mahi Mahi... be sure to spring for the extra white sauce topping. Well worth it!!! Get anything but the oysters - I had really high hopes for this place and was excited to see an oyster po boy on the menu. I love fried oysters and have eaten them in all the gulf states as we lived in Georgia for a decade. We ordered take out for the family and ordered a variety of things. My oyster po boy was not edible at all. The oysters first off did not look right and were rounded like elongated eggs. They looked like under cooked cheddar peppers, but unfortunately tasted far far worse than they looked. They were nauseating. I gave my large dog who eats everything one and he actually spit it all out after three chews. I called the manager just to let him know, and not wanting anything out of my complaint. He was nice but admitted they come frozen and battered. I suggested they remove them from the menu because they are literally that bad. The other items were enjoyable to everyone else: pasta, shrimp po boy. I also thought the gumbo while it had a nice kick tasted sweet for some reason and it shouldn't be. read more

First visit and not sure we will be back. Drinks came fast and meal came soon after we finished our salads. I had mahi mahi and it was a little dry but tasty. Small portion but got full with the rice and key lime pie which was good but small for the price. Husband had new steak on menu and it was chewy and grisly. Said worst steak he has had in Amarillo. Took my family of 4 here. The service was good and the food was good, but the prices were way too high for the food we had. $83 for 2 salmon plates, a kid quesadilla, a Cajun pasta bowl, 2 salads and a beer. I can get the same portions and quality in town for $50 in the same setting of restaurant. Probably won't be back at these prices. Too bad since it's something different for Amarillo. read more

The best thing about this place is the beer is cold. My pasta was almost as cold as the beer when it was served. My wife does not care for seafood so she ordered the steak. It was very tender and had zero flavor. She said her dinner salad was good. We complained about the cold food to the manager. He offered a replacement which was declined. He was going to check on why the food was cold and he never came back to the table. The waitress was good and very busy. I will not be back there there is better cajun and steak in Amarillo. read more

Best food I have had in a long time and very friendly staff. I can't say enough about their jalapeno grilled scallops would not come here without getting them again and the grilled oysters on the half shell were equally as good. I ordered the blackened snapper with willy sauce(I think that is what the sauce was called) - delicious! I would have never ordered the gumbo but after trying it would come back for a bowl. My husband got the grilled shrimp poor boy and wished he had gotten it with fried shrimp. That was the only thing that wasn't stellar in our opinion. Oh and the gator was more tender than we have ever had it, if you haven't tried gator this is the place to try it. Great addition to Amarillo. read more

Was very excited to try this new restaurant and knew it would be packed on weekend so decided to go on a Thursday instead, had about a 45 min wait. I got the cajun shrimp pasta, after what seemed like a long wait, my pasta came out cold. I notified the waiter, very nice, returned it to the kitchen and I guess reheated it as a tail of the shrimp I had bitten was on there. Couple minutes later the owner I assume came and asked me if the pasta was cold or room temperature. I told him it was cold. He was again if it was it cold or rm temp, I told him it was cold and he was like it's strange as I don't keep my pasta in the refrigerator. When pasta is cold, it's cold no matter what. Pasta is supposed to be served hot! After he left a table a next to us had pasta and also returned is for being cold and he asked them the same thing....after he left the table they were, it doesn't matter, cold pasta is cold pasta...yeah, the food is not good enough to pay what we paid and for the wait time. read more
