Stocking enough fresh fish is difficult and I understand. They offered me swordfish off menu which I happily accepted. The fish was perfectly cooked but was served warm instead of hot. Minor details because the rest of the meal was spot on. My wife had the mahi mahi with the white sauce and steamed veggies and enjoyed it. The service was very sub par. Our waitress was Ashli and she spent a lot of time visiting with one particular table. She didn't get my order right and forgot the salad completely. When we finished and were ready for the check she was off visiting again. Over all it was an OK experience but I think they have better in them. It's been 4 years since we've been through Amarillo. We made this our stopover headed back to East Texas. Of course Lazy Gator was on our "to do" list. It did not disappoint. Made a meal with jalapeño scallops,side salad, and broccoli -delicious. When the rest of the family(party of 6) saw my scallops, they had to do an add on. Overall the food is very good, but the Jambalaya had no seafood as described in the menu, that's the downside of takeout: you can't really check the content or at least get clarification. The food was ready on time, but there's no utensils when I checked around. This is actually a good practice, as if I were to take it home, I don't need utensils and no point to create unnecessary wastes. Yet since we were on the road we did need them. I ordered 4 meals for 3 person. I first checked the gumbo and there's no spoon, so I asked the waitress. She right away brought me one set of utensils. Only one. I then asked about forks and she said it's in the set. I told her then I need 3 sets and she seemed upset. Did I expect too much if the waitress can assess the total order or just ask? Wow, I had great expectations from this establishment. 6 of us went there Saturday about 5 pm. Tables are jammed together. Service was slow. Finally got our water, tea and diet cokes. Ordered the fried gator appetizer. When it came it was a terrible disappointment. The meat had an unusual texture. Unlike any gators I have ever had. Entrees were so so. One was crawfish po boy hold the slaw. It arrived with. Gumbo was watery with no meat and clumpy rice. Grilled chicken salads were served with a bowl of roughly chopped iceberg lettuce a couple pieces of tomato and a complete grilled chicken breast dropped on top, not sliced, diced or chopped. We came in on Saturday during lunch time. We ordered the gator appetizer which comes with fried gator bites and fries. The fries were pretty good, but I think the gator bites would have been better with some kind of Cajun sauce on it. It was good but just needed a little more to set it aside from chicken nuggets. I ordered the Black Cat Bayou and my sister ordered the Chicken Alfredo pasta. Both were so full of flavor and my catfish was not dry at all. The Cajun sauce has an amazing flavor and the rice underneath was cooked just right. I also enjoyed the shrimp and crawfish on top of my catfish. We tried the lazy gator out a couple of times now, and both times have been thoroughly satisfied with the food and service. Both times table touches were done by managers as well as our servers. Our food has always been hot and our drinks have always been cold the children's burger is a good size my son couldn't finish that and it's even a great size portion on the kids popcorn shrimp if you want to bring little ones. We stayed in Amarillo en route to Colorado. We found Lazy Gator on Yelp and decided with such good reviews we should try it out. My husband had fried gator and I had fried shrimp. I really enjoyed his tartar suave with my shrimp so maybe ask for it if you liked tartar sauce. We were both very pleased with our meal. Wow! It has been a long time since a meal has brought a tear to my eye for some reason other than heat level. This is one of the best meals I have ever put in my mouth.
