I ask a random waitress - can you see if our burger is ready? "oh is it to go? yeah it's ready" What the! I really wanted to like this place. The island of Vieques is so magical and there are limited late night food options. We were happy to find Lazy Jack's bar. The name is a little deceiving since you couldn't order pizza. Definitely a dive bar on the water with bar food. My friends and I started off with drinks after a bit of a wait. My husband asked about service, which people seemed upset that we asked. Once we had a waiter, he forgot my husband's drink. No big deal. My husband went up to him to check in on his drink. Great dive bar on the island! Hung out here for an hour enjoying cold Medallas while my wife and daughter did the bio bay tour. Server was friendly and quick, which was great because it was busy! There is not a lot of options at night in this part of the island. Other establishments close earlier in the evening and this is the only one open even late at night. Located at Esperanza, by the sea, Lazy Jack's has a bar and regular tables/chairs. They have TVs on. Service was okay. It's a bar and it can be loud here. They have plenty of drinks to choose from; we did not have any. I did not have high expectations. I was starving and the food here was filling. Lazy Jacks burgers were huge $18 half-pound burgers with tomato, lettuce, red onion and pickle. They came with a side (french fries, tater tots, pasta salad, or coleslaw). On the two days we dined there at night, they did not serve coleslaw because they ran out of ingredients (their supply/shipment did not arrive yet). Thanksgiving day and my dad and I had no nowhere to eat before our kayak excursion, so our ride dropped us off here as we saw it was open. Seating is outside and also by the bar, and we were served very fast. We let our waiter know that we were in a hurry, and he recommended what I can only assume is their signature item, Da Big Fish and Chips. I did not have high hopes for this, but this was genuinely one of the best fried fish dishes I've ever had. The fish was perfectly tender, and the fry batter on the outside was even, hot and crispy. The fries were perfection. I personally did not love my painkiller, but I think I just don't really like orange juice lol. There is a restroom available on site. I don't know if I would recommend this if you were seeking incredibly authentic Puerto Rican food, but if you were seeking a good time with a beautiful view of the water, this seems like a good option in the Esperanza area. I was craving a burger on 4th of July and my husband got takeout for me from here. I got the veggie burger and Italian pasta salad on the side. My craving was fulfilled. The veggie patty had a crispy exterior and creamy interior. The pasta salad had cucumbers and olives in them which were great. We went to eat dinner here before heading out on a tour of the bioluminescent bay. It was an open-Aires restaurant. We got seated right away and our waitress was extremely kind. Thought the street did have a couple of other well decorated restaurants, I preferred this place since I could find the essence of the island in the people who worked here. Lazy Jack's is a VERY casual outside bar that also sells food located in Esperanza right across from the water and has a roadside beer joint vibe. I had lunch here last week as it was the only place I could find in Esperanza serving lunch that day. Some of the other eateries were closed but getting ready to open for the expected increase in tourism starting in mid November. I ordered the beer battered fish sandwich with fries for $14. The food came out in about 10 minutes. The fish sandwich was good in size and taste but my fries were cold. About 5 minutes later the waitress brought me a hot order but I thought they tasted a little bland. The meal was a 3 which means it was acceptable but I would probably go eat somewhere else in town if I came back. Table service was good. Lazy Jack's is a good place to come with your friends and have a beer and hangout. It's directly located on the main drag going through Esperanza with the water on the other side. I wanted to avoid this restaurant due to the previous reviews and the presence of great restaurants in the area. However, on this particular day, most of the other restaurants were closed. So, Lazy Jacks it was. It took FOREVER to get our food. Once our food arrived, our table was overwhelmed with flies, which made sense because we were seated at a table close to the dumpster. I noticed that other outdoor restaurants used smart methods to minimize fly issues, but it seemed like Lazy Jack's just didn't care. Our server was very inattentive. I don't think she ever checked on us. It took forever to get her attention as she just hung out at the bar and talked with other employees and customers at the bar. If you ask for a water, you'll be directed to a tank at the bar where you pour your own. Finally, the food was overpriced for what we ordered - greasy, unremarkable bar food. What worked well for me was the "Pain Killer" drink, which was necessary to get through this meal. I could have used another... but, again, the server didn't check on us. read more

We weren't sure if we were supposed to just grab a table or wait around. We finally asked someone. They sat us at a table but gave us no menus. We had to go ask for them. Came here on our first night in Vieques while staying in Esperanza. American pub food. I enjoyed the pina coladas although they were a little pricey - 10$. My husband added a floated that cost 6$ but was spilled...husband got fish taco which didn't come with a sauce. It was bland. My daughter ordered the pizza. She didn't like it. I thought it was ok. I got the fish and chips which were huge, crispy, hot and tasty!! They came with tots because they were out of fries. I guess they could have told us they were out. Came here after the beach for drinks. Our drinks came (margarita and a piña colada) and they were absolutely awful. Frozen Margarita was so watered down it tasted like it had been sitting and barely had any alcohol. The piña colada had no flavor either except for super strong cheap liquor. We told the server and then got up and left, it was honestly kind of shocking how bad the drinks were. The food options on the menu didn't look like anything special. One night in Esperanza and how could we not visit Lazy Jacks - that's where the party is. This place is buzzing with tourists and locals and one of the only places open on Vieques post 9 PM - thats how we stumbled upon this bar. We ordered the Jacks Painkiller and loved it so much that was our signature repeat order drink for the night. For food, we ordered the fish and chips (delicious) along with Meat Lovers pizza (great) along with Jalapeno poppers (great). Loved the food and drinks served at this place and service was amazing. Super busy even on a wednesday night. If you do not like loud music or people talking loudly and having fun - stay away but for the rest this is a fun place to enjoy your night on the island. This place is poppin and gets busy, understandably because they're pretty much the only restaurant serving food after the biobay tours end at 8pm. It's loud and can get crowded but the servers and bartenders manage it well!
