While heading back to Minneapolis from Duluth, we took a slight detour from I-35 and stumbled across the Lazy Moose. Cute name, even better food. Our party of 5 dropped by right during the lunch rush but we were immediately seated. Our waitress was attentive, prompt and sweet. I ordered the chipotle roast beef sandwich and it was buttery and crispy and yummy. For my side I got the lazy fries, which was a mix of sweet potato and regular fries. I loved getting both types of fries because often I can't choose! My husband got the Hawaiian chicken sandwich which must have been good because he ate the whole thing. The onion rings were really good...definitely homemade. The chicken salad on a croissant and the burger with wild rice were also big hits. None of us tried the meatloaf, but after seeing it delivered to other people, we all wished we had. The homemade pies also looked very tasty. On my way out, one woman got milkshakes to go that made my mouth water. She was a local and assured me they were worth breaking your diet for! The best part was they stuck a wafer in the whipped cream to top off the shake! This is a great small town joint and makes a great pitstop from the monotony of I-35. The only thing 'lazy' about this place is the decor. It's one of those restaurants with a gift shop and all the decor on the walls is also for sale. Granted, the town is so small it makes sense for this place to serve dual purposes. read more

Food is good enough to eat here again and for four stars but can't give it five. Burger buns are nice quality and fixings on top fresh. Other food we ordered had an elevated quality to it that I appreciate. Fries are really good but sitting in some grease on the plate. Breakfast food good but nothing special. Atmosphere is nice with a throw back diner vibe. Bathrooms need some attention. Prices are a bit high. We are used to higher prices but we're surprised at our total bill. We came here for breakfast twice on our visit. It was the only descent place to get some food! The first time I ordered County fried steak with eggs, Kalehala hash browns (bacon, hash browns, sweet potatoes) really tasty and French toast. It sure was a lot of food! The French toast were thick and the make the bread there which is always nice. The second time I came here I just order eggs, bacon, Kalehala hash and sausage I believe. It also came with French toast, you won't leave here with an empty stomach! The coffee is also freshly ground so it tasted fresh and not acidic like some other coffee.! Food and service are both good but the prices are a bit high. That being said, the place is clean and well lit with great seating options.

We appreciate that they are open with indoor seating. We ordered the Hay stack and 2 cakes meal. All was delicious. The kalevala hash is a nice touch. Sometimes one just wants a straight forward meal with a strong coffee and this delivered. read more

I had brunch at Lazy Moose Grille and it didn't disappoint. Brunch started with a slice of their blueberry pie. I didn't looove the crust. It was tasty where pie-met-crust but other than that it didn't have much flavor. But I'm not a huge crust gal so maybe crust lovers love the crust BUT the blueberry filling was delicious. Tiny wild blueberries. The best there are. Not too sweet. I'd eat it every week if I could. I also had a veggie omlett and toast with homemade jam; one of each flavor! All were excellent. The omelet was good. Nice, fresh vegetables. Everything was good and I would definitely recommend it and go there often. I felt like the portion sizes were a little small for the price. read more

Very good coffee- mocha and regular. Not cheap by any means but very clean, welcoming, and decorated to be homey. Very sweet and charming waitress on the morning of March 23rd. Everything is "homemade" and they have a 12% service charge in lieu of tipping- I left her more because I was there for an extended period of time while my dog was having surgery at the local vet's clinic. Again, the waitress was very kind and kept my coffee cup full. I'd go back. Went back for dinner in June, and was disappointed. Nothing but an omelette and onion rings for vegetarians, unless you want to pay full price for a wrap minus the chicken. The Thai wrap has huge chunks of hard, raw carrot and peanuts in it, but was tasty according to my husband. If you like meat and carbs, there is plenty to choose from. If they would sub a veggie burger for a meat burger it would be nice. Our bill was $31. And change for the omelette, wrap, and 2 diet pepsis. read more

My wife, daughter & I decided to try a new place (to us) to eat on Sunday morning. This place was great! The service was good, the food was amazing, and the decor was nice. They were quite busy, but the servers kept up with it. As others have said, the portions are generous, and of course we had leftovers for the rest of the day to eat. Some other people have complained about the 12% service charge they have in lieu of a tip. I didn't mind the charge at all, it was actually less than I would have normally tipped. I like the fact that it is shared with the kitchen staff, it just makes sense! The servers are really there just to take orders, distribute food and keep the customer happy. The kitchen is where it all happens. I will definitely be coming back here again! read more

We stopped here on the way home from Duluth. Very cute place with soaps, spices and other home decor for sale as well as a nice place to eat. I had the haystack with pancakes. It was cooked perfectly, delicious and very filling. My Husband had the meat lovers omelette. It was huge and very generous on the meat filling. The kids had chicken strips and grilled cheese. I visited Moose Lake for the first time this past weekend, and had the opportunity to come here for lunch and breakfast because it was that good! The food was clearly made from scratch and everything was delicious! For lunch, I ordered the meatloaf that had Minnesotan wild rice, and this was pretty good. For breakfast, I had the eggs benedict and their homemade caramel roll, and these were both delicious! Make sure to get the Kalevala hash, which includes sweet potatoes and reminded me of Thanksgiving in the seasoning that they used! The best thing I got to try however, was my boyfriend's fried fish sandwich, which was amazing. It was different than your typical fried fish sandwich because it was light, crisp, and the batter had a lot of fantastic herbs/seasonings. Lazy bear... more like lazy staff. We waited 55 minutes for our food. The service was less than stellar and the floors were sticky and wet. At a table next to us, a kid spilled his water and the server just threw some old rags on it and left. She later came back to ask them something and stood on the rags then walked away. We ended up having the fresh catch fish with potato/bacon/sweet potato hash and cranberry cole slaw. Fresh bread with everything. My husband and I shared a dinner and eat had some homemade pie for dessert. The serving sizes are large so sharing was perfect. Breakfast is also served all day. After eating dinner here, I was wishing we had eaten here twice today. The loop around Moose Lake makes it an easy offshoot from the highway as well. Excellent scratch-made food. I love this place and stop in every time I'm nearby. Tipping not required, as they have a mandatory service charge.
