Ordered two cappuccinos and a honey latte. Also tried the griddled cheese and a couple pastries. The panini and pastries were good, but the coffee was rough. Honey has to be thoroughly stirred into the espresso shots before the milk is poured in or it all just sinks to the bottom. Also, honey is extremely sweet. A little goes a long way. The milk steaming for all three drinks was amateur unfortunately, and you can tell by how many bubbles were throughout the cappuccino. Not a smooth drink at all. Some craft coffee shops will help train baristas on milk steaming and I think it would go a long way for Lazy Bird! I hope to edit this review eventually with a much better report. read more

Took a little walk down here. Situated right on central. There are a couple of small tables outside a few others inside. When we arrived they had the most beautiful display of delicious savory and sweet options. We went with the sticky bun that had nuts and raisins. The staff was very polite and brought or drinks out to us as we had puppers with us. Just tried to spend a nice Saturday morning having coffee with a friend. Unfortunately, there were no less than 3 dogs INSIDE the cafe the entire time we were there. I appreciate that they want to be dog friendly but the dog treats and dogs should stay outside. You can make a cozy spot for them. Dogs inside the very small cafe should not be allowed. It is stressful for the dog. It gets loud as they yip/bark. And, well, isn't there a health code? Employees need to enforce "no dogs" even if the cliental are local neighbors, as I am. read more

Really loved the vibe of this place! It's warm and inviting. It wasn't clear if there was free WiFi and i came early enough that most patrons were just grabbing their drinks/food and leaving. So it didn't give me a sense of this is a 'work from coffee shop' type of place. The service was top notch! I told them it was my first time and she gave me a run through of their pastries and menu items and even a menu to take with me if i ever wanted to order ahead. There was a mix of savory and sweet breakfast items. All of which I'd like to try on my next visit. Unfortunately the coffee was lacking. I ordered a cappuccino and there was way too much foam. Essentially it was a dry cappuccino (foam + espresso) Vs a cappuccino (equal parts espresso, foam and milk). I don't think the shot was pulled long enough because it was pretty bitter. Love this place - the vibe, the people, the food. I have to say, usually coffee shops don't really have food or the food is good and the coffee meh. But lazy bird has it all. My first time coming, the barista lady was super nice and really sold the porridge. I rarely buy porridge because it's so easy to make. It wasn't cheap either but I got to say that it was the best porridge I've bought. Gingery goodness, not too thick, pork slices, and grandma sauce... what's to complain about?! I'm definitely down to try other foods and baked goods next time. And of course, my daily fix of coffee. It was super relaxing as I are my porridge and drank my coffee after listing to 2000 hip hop vibes. Not sure if it was a normal thing but brought me back to my high school days. Yummy coffee & cute one of a kind cafe with some indoor & outdoor seating. I always have an iced samoas latte (less sweet & less ice) . The chocolate espresso bread pudding is delicious , crustless quiche is good, chocolate chip & ginger cookies are tasty too. They have a lot of other items I want to try. Hawaiian items as well. Rose lychee latte, Portuguese sausage breakfast burrito, spam musubi, etc. I've heard they have Ono Bakehouse malasadas on Fridays & Saturdays too. Plus, I want to try the thai chicken salad. I was in Alameda looking for somewhere to get coffee and saw this was the closest option. When first walking in, my partner and I noticed there were about 4-5 staff members and no one greeted or acknowledge us when we came in. When someone did finally acknowledge us, we ordered a cortado which they seemed a bit confused about. When we got our drinks, the cortado was more of a latte as there was a lot of milk and foam, my partners chai was a bit too sweet but he enjoyed it. Hands down, best honey lavender latte in town or in Cali. The latte was smooth and flavorful with a subtle hint of lavender. The first sip was really a surprise because the foam was spilling and had loads of honey. Honestly, even the foam was yummy! The temperature was just right - hot, but not hot enough to burn the tongue. I'm already planning my next trip to get this drink. It's dangerously close to home and walkable, so I'll be spending lots of $5 for this. The only down side is that the honey or syrup falls to the bottom of the drink and when I got to the bottom, it was way too sweet. Anyway, we also ordered a cappuccino which my hubs didn't quite like because it was too strong for his liking. He got his cappuccino dry, so maybe he should consider getting a latte instead or a cappuccino wet which means more foam. Oh, before I forget, the logo is so so cute! I wanted to like this place more because the vibe is so cute, the cups are adorable and so instagramable and the staff are very friendly and kind. But the coffee just wasn't that good. I got an oat milk vanilla latte -- it was just very bleh but I did drink it. What I seriously loved were the little breakfast sandwich sliders. They had the option of veggie or ham and I got two of the ham sliders. They are pretty small so I recommend getting two or three depending on your appetite. They are delicious and sweet and savory and the eggs are cooked perfectly. Go here just for these honestly. They also have pastries and lunch options (salads and paninis). New to the area, so we stopped by to get some drinks and snacks because we needed coffee drinks desperately AND the coffee shop looked cute, nestled in a neighborhood; I mean, who doesn't want to support a local neighborhood coffee shop. We got a house coffee, a latte with oat milk (lactose intolerant), and honey lavender latte. The drinks were all just fine, didn't wow us in any way, but the latte was definitely not made with oat milk as requested. SO NOT COOL. I am the lactose intolerant person - and I suffered all day. There were also no labels or ingredient lists for any of their pastries or sandwiches/toasts. We asked the cashier to confirm what the pastries were in the display area, and they acted a bit put out. Sure, we could guess that there were probably almond croissants, most likely butter croissants, some type of milky bread rolls still in a pan?, the dots in the scones might be blueberries? - but, come on, would basic labels hurt? Based on their reluctance to confirm for us, we got the basic plain croissant. Then we also ordered the smoked salmon avocado toast - not realizing that it would come with "Cucumber, Cream Cheese, Tobiko, Micro Greens, Siracha Aioli, and Furikake" (ingredients were on the website, but we were there in person). We assumed, since the board did not list the rest of the ingredients, that it would be a simple smoked salmon, avocado, some type of cream cheese or sauce toast, and that would be it. The person who ordered it cannot eat cucumbers (like how some people cannot cilantro because it tastes like soap to them? yeah similar deal, except with cucumbers). This wasn't a huge deal breaker but they definitely treated some customers with smiles and hellos - and some with just "What would you like to order?", so not all customers were getting equal attention. I thought it was a CA law to have ingredients listed for food items? Maybe not? Maybe it wouldn't have made a difference anyway since I did ask specifically for a dairy milk substitute, and apparently they didn't care enough. The croissant was just okay, mainly because I had just had a croissant from a different bakery in the area that was supreme, so it might not be a fair comparison/assessment. We wouldn't go out of our way to re-visit. If we are in the area again and needed coffee desperately, we may stop by - but I don't know if I can trust them to accommodate my highly reactive lactose intolerance. As we noted, maybe the name of the cafe "Lazybird" should have been a red flag for us. read more

Great local coffee shop. Ordered the horchata latte, Kalua pork sandwich and congee, spam masubi and a few malasada donuts. The malasadas are brought in from Ono Bakery in Berkeley only on Friday and Saturday (you are able to pre order them). Customer service is really kind and friendly, they pump out the orders quickly and the shop is clean and adorable. They use bicycle coffee which is wonderful, rich and bold. However food items are a bit pricey. Manapua's are $8 and sandwiches are about $15. I love the some of the island flavors they are trying to incorporate. I think adding some specials like loco moco, pork hash or pog would be nice limited weekend items. Definitely worth stopping by for a latte and warm musubi. read more

My review today isn't about the coffee (although it was delicious). My review is about the staff, there was a medical emergency and the barista (tall with pony tail) immediately jumped into action! I was so impressed at how quickly and well the situation was handled. The other barista did great at managing all coffee orders on her own so the rest of us could get our coffee in a timely manner. Love this little cafe in Alameda! Finally, we get a spot that is serving up some seriously good coffee. I've tried the matcha, white chocolate matcha, pandan latte, and rose lychee latte. My favorite so far is the white chocolate matcha especially when it's frothed just right. The matcha is not at all bitter, balanced by the slight sweetness of the white chocolate. So many other coffee spots (looking at you, Starbucks) are so sweet I feel delirious after one sip, but not at Lazybird where the baristas are more than happy to adjust the sweetness of the beverage. The only comment I can give about their pastries is try their housemade chocolate chip cookie - rich, chewy, and full of chocolate. Skip anything by Firebrand as the pastries are dry and lacking flavor. Tip for the business - Elevate your pastries at or near the level of the cash register so patrons can easily see is being offered. I believe this slight adjustment may increase your pastry sales and lessen the amount that is left over at the end of the day. Or, offer less pastries from outside sources and offer up a limited amount of your delicious housemade items, i.e. the chocolate chip cookies. read more
