I was in Alameda, CA for the day and decided to try out this coffee shop. I was in a cute little part of town and it was a bit difficult to find parking but after circling around a bit, I was able to find metered street parking about 2 blocks away from SIGNAL Coffee Roasters. It was a Saturday afternoon and there were some people inside the cafe doing some work. I stopped by with my dog who was in her dog bag and the worker was kind enough to let me order my drink without having to leave my dog outside! I ordered an Iced Black Sesame Latte with Oatmilk. 10/10. Everything was perfectly balanced! The coffee flavor was there but also the sesame flavor. Super refreshing! There were also some seating outside the coffee shop. Not too many but it is still available! Overall, great and friendly service, quick service, and great coffee! Tiffany, the barista, who always makes my drinks is amazing. She makes me feel welcomed and always knows my orders. I might be biased, but I only prefer her as my barista. Drip coffee: 4 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5 Passion Fruit Donut We were in town for a soccer match and I needed to grab an early morning coffee while the team was doing their warm-ups. I checked out for a good look of coffee shop and it steered me in this direction. I was there about 8:30 AM on a Saturday morning. There was a decent crowd inside and a small street market at the end of the block. There are a couple tables inside, a few more out front, and a lovely garden sitting area in the back. I was promptly greeted by Steve, or was it Jim? He was wearing a Howler tee. We had some quick banter about the pastries, his tee and my hat. He was friendly, expedient, and professional... Definitely the kind of service that helps create a customer base of regulars. I had come in about 15 minutes earlier to get the drip coffee and someone else helped me out. While they were efficient, they weren't very friendly or engaging. Unfortunately that's what qualifies I was regular service these days. They drip coffee was a medium roast. It was a perfect time and had a nice balance of flavor and acidity. After checking out the offerings at the market I decided to return to the coffee shop to get myself a breakfast treat, having mistaken a passion fruit donut for what I thought was a coffee donut. I had not had a passionfruit donut before, but I decided to give it a shot. Oh my gods. This thing was insanely delicious. At the first bite the filling erupted, offering the sweet flavors of a passion fruit in a crème form. I will aim to keep this review PG, but suffice it to say if a donut could be erotic this was it. I really like the people that work at the signal coffee. I stopped in when I was at the farmers market because I really wanted to paste drink coffee sadly they didn't have many pastries left just a jalapeño scone, which sounded terrible to me even though it looked very good and one other thing the ambience was cool and I love that they had a clean bathroom and a really nice backyard oasis to enjoy your coffee in. I don't understand why a small coffee is $4.50. I brought my own refillable mug which she so kindly filled and was gonna charge me $5.50 but I told her just give me less and I'll do $4.50. The coffee isn't organic. There's nothing significantly different about it. But I was there so I purchased the coffee. They have this cashless system. I'm wondering if that's why their products are so much more than other coffee shops. So when I'm paying $4.50 for a regular small coffee I expect all the amenities: turbinado, sugar, or raw sugar, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. But they just had the regular plain sugar out which I don't like it all. It actually causes me to have a reaction cause it's so depleted. I saw no honey in sight. So I asked and luckily, she gave me some honey that they had behind the counter. I felt bad because it was almost empty, but I got what I needed for my coffee. She said she gave me a little bit extra coffee since I'm using a refillable mug, which was nice. That's the two stars. I will not come here again. I have been wanting to try it out because this shop has been here a few years and it was close to my work today. But $4.50 for a coffee when I can get better quality organic coffees for on average three dollars and at one of my favorite spots in Oakland for $1.50! Maybe this cashless thing is making things more expensive. With this economy especially, I think it'd be better to go back to cash and pay lower prices. Some pluses, nice seating area outside in back and in front, compostable utensils and packaging, good looking pastries ... though I didn't dare ask the cost of those. read more

The coffee had really great flavor, but we were a bit disappointed that it wasn't served as hot as we requested. We came in closer to closing time, so we understand the team was getting ready to wrap up, but the customer service felt a little rushed. Since we were still paying customers, we expected a bit more politeness and attention. It's pretty rare that I come across a Black Sesame Latte on a menu, so I was excited to see it offered here and had to give it a try. I was pleased that it still maintained a solid coffee flavor, though I do wish the nutty black sesame notes had been a bit more pronounced. My husband ordered the Ube Latte, and he absolutely loved it. Overall, our drinks were enjoyable, and we liked them enough that while we were still in town, we came back and ordered them again a couple of days later. read more

This is a great place to work if you can get one of the four tables in the front. I really lucked out with the one right by the power outlet in the middle. They offer a great variety of drinks, including mochas, matchas and even an ube latte. My favorites are the chai and hojicha lattes. Food includes offerings from Boichik, pastries and empanadas. It sure beats driving all the way out to Oakland or Berkeley for Boichik. Love this cafe and so lucky it's within walking distance from home. read more

Came by around 2pm on a Sunday and the place was pretty empty. Ordered a black sesame latte half sweet, but it didn't have any sesame flavor--or coffee flavor either. Mostly just tasted like milk. That said, the outdoor patio is really nice--shaded by trees, hanging lights, and a small fountain. Super peaceful and relaxing. A few tables inside as well. I love finding cute coffee shops when traveling! Signal Coffee Roasters was the first stop we hit to be caffeinated for the rest of our SF trip. I love the fun variety of flavors; we ordered an ube latte and black sesame latte. The purple in the ube latte was so vibrant without tasting extremely artificial. The black sesame didn't stand out as much as the ube latte, as the flavor was a but too subtle for my liking. Overall, both were solids lattes, though I was looking forward to more fun latte art. I'm surprised by my own review as I really thought I would give more stars. We came on a Sunday early afternoon and ordered the Matcha latte and the black sesame latte Pros: both drinks were served very hot, which is my favorite! Black sesame latte had a very good coffee flavor with a perfect sweetness level. Cons: the black sesame latte did not taste like black sesame at all. It tasted like a regular coffee latte. The matcha latte barely tasted like matcha and was very, very weak. It also was not sweetened enough. My go to is the iced latte, they also have other speciality drinks such as ube latte, black sesame latte, matcha, etc. They make it to perfection which is why I always come back for more. I also enjoy the close proximity and being able to get my coffee in a nice area with decent foot traffic. The coffee is strong and the food is filling. Two dangerous things for me! I tried the iced Mexican Mocha, the Ricotta and Jam open faced sandwich, and the chocolate croissant. That croissant was HUGE! I wished the toast had more jam on it, but otherwise, it was pretty good. The workers were helpful and patient -- it was my first time visiting so I had some questions. Love walking here and bringing friends/family! My go-to's are the matcha latte, chai latte, and iced oatmeal cookie (surprisingly super delicious, 10/10)! Also love browsing the unique and hilarious cards on display. Came here for a quick afternoon pick-me-up with my mom earlier today, and were greeted by the wonderful staff. James was so helpful and kind! He suggested we try their cinnamon roll, which was so delicious warmed up. They even gave us extra goodies to try and bring home to the family, since it was getting towards the end of the day. Thank you James and Sean for making our days a little brighter! A cute lil coffee shop in Alameda! I was staying with my friend that lives in the area and this is one of her go-to coffee shops so we decided to stop by as a lil morning break to grab some morning brekkie & sips. I ended up getting the miso egg salad toast because it's not something you'll ever see in a FL coffee shop and it sounds soooo good. It was as good as it sounds and was true to the name. If you like miso and egg salad, you'll love this toast! Of course, I got the matcha latte but opted to try the burnt honey version because I think it was seasonal and wanted to try something different. I wasn't the biggest fan of the flavor but still loved the matcha. This small and quaint coffee shop is definitely a fav of mine and would recommend if you're ever in the area! I was in town for work and I'm very glad I found this place! Tried the Ube and was not disappointed, it has a subtle sweet potato taste and was great! We also ordered a classic cappuccino and the barista did an excellent job on the foam, especially after I dipped my croissant in it . This location is closest to my house and I love coming here on my walks. Usually, because I have the baby, I order online to do a quick grab and go. My coffee is usually ready 7-10 minutes after I put the order in which is perfect from my home to their To-Go shelf! The staff is very friendly and sweet. They remember my very long name and the drinks are GOOD, especially when I need some extra energy with their espresso shots. My fave go-to drinks are The Dulce de Leche Latte and the Mexican Mocha. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outside patio in the back is beautiful and lush with plants! Lots of room. There are always people working on their laptops inside and outside. It is quiet but not too quiet, which for me is great. I appreciate that ambiance. I'm loving these Signal locations!! read more

I'm not sure what all this cashless business is about.  What happens if you don't have a credit or debit card? So the disadvantaged can't buy coffee here? Their money should be as good as anyone else's. Cash has worked really well for a long time. Are you businesses afraid of your employees stealing from you? If you can't trust them don't hire them. It is incrementalism to get us to a cashless society and when it happens people are going to ask, "how'd this happen?". Well I'll tell you. It happened in plain sight. So about the coffee.... My partner had a great cold brew. I'm old school and went with a black coffee. I know hella boring. Seats on the sidewalk, seats inside and a really nice patio in the back.
