Every single one was delicious, and everyone was raving about them. The pastry was flaky and buttery, and the fillings were full of flavor. If you're looking for delicious, high-quality food for a gathering or special occasion, I highly recommend Le Café Gourmet. Beyond the quiches, their muffins, pastries, pies, cookies and coffee are all fantastic. They offer a wonderful assortment of baked goods, and everything I've tried has been outstanding. This cute little place did not disappoint! We stopped by for breakfast while visiting Savannah. Great coffee. Very good food and some amazing looking pastries. I did not have one but if the other food was an indicator, they were delicious. The service was good even though they were packed with customers. The owner was bringing out coffee and bussing tables. I first discovered Le Café Gourmet when my daughter started at SCAD--she told me it was her favorite lunch spot, and after visiting many times over the past two years, I completely understand why. Tucked away in a quieter part of Savannah, this little café is cozy and welcoming. There are a few sidewalk tables outside, and inside, you'll find stools by the window (perfect for people-watching) along with several small tables. It's a great spot for a quiet coffee break or a casual lunch. The baked goods are absolutely incredible--freshly made every morning and hard to resist. They often have free samples, which is a nice touch. I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered, whether it's a pastry, a croissant sandwich, or a coffee. Most of the staff are SCAD students, and they've always been friendly and helpful. On one visit, I had the chance to chat with the owner, Helen, who is lovely and clearly passionate about what she does. I was amazed to learn that she imports her flour and butter from France, which explains why everything tastes so authentic! I used to recommend this spot to everyone. Never again. First, I called to place an order for carry out. Instead of being on hold, the phone was just put down and I listened to people talking in the restaurant for 7 minutes before hanging up. Still wanting a sandwich, I walked to the restaurant to order my carry out. The sandwich, which I've ordered numerous times in the past, was hardly cooked. Le Café Gourmet is probably the best cafe I've visited. Ever? Maybe, yes. The turkey, spinach, goat cheese and walnut crepe is easily the best crepe I've tasted. Absolute knockout flavor combination. The rum baba was as fresh as could be. The girl at the counter foretold that it would melt in our mouth and it truly did. Lastly, we tried a berry tart that had the freshest fruit possible. Everything was a hit. And the only reason we stopped here in the first place was due to their early opening hours on a Sunday morning. I'm sad to have only tried here on our last day in town, but much like a teen romance, is it not better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all? Ponderous thoughts. Started out well. The coffee was very good. The Dijon sandwich came out relatively quickly. It was dry and underwhelming. It then took thirty minutes for the gourmet croque, which are pre made, to come out. This should have been crispy, but it was soggy so I can only assume it was microwaved. Another place I make it a point to visit on my yearly Savannah trip. Really good food for late breakfast. Super friendly staff and quick service. Although this was steps from our hotel, it seems a lot of locals come here for lunch. Cute bistro like feel with plenty of seating for small group or couples. Outdoor seating is available as well. It's a small place but the layout works well. Coffee choices are so yummy. I had the special coffee if the day - can't recall but it was yummy. I had the caprese sandwich with prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, spinach and glazed balsamic vinegar with a side salad which has the best homemade vinaigrette dressing. Can you believe I'm visiting with a foodie friend who has NEVER had a crepe? I know, right? Unbelievable! So we had to visit the cafe which undisputedly has the best crepes in Savannah...maybe. Since it is the only crepe shop in Savannah I have visited, I can't qualify the previous assessment. I can tell about my experience. Le Cafe Gourmet is a quaint little place on the edge of the historic district not far from the City Market. In fact, it is so small that I couldn't get my cameras viewfinder to locate an appropriate spot to focus, thus no pictures. ( You can probably Google it and find some pics by someone with a better camera than mine). There is no way to enforce social distancing inside, and people tend to linger, so scoring a seat at one of the 5 tables inside can be a challenge! That said, with patrons waiting to pounce, it must be impossible for the lone employee behind the counter and serving food to clean tables between customers. I was there for almost 45 minutes and I never saw it happen. Good news though, there was one other person in the kitchen cooking the whole time on a single crepe plate. Bad news, it takes quite a while for a party of 4 to get their prepared food. Oh yes, the food. It was good, but not anything to write home about, and selections are limited appropriately for the size and capability of the kitchen. Staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was not too loud so conversation was not interrupted. Would I return? Maybe, but not until this COVID thing is crushed.
