Outside there are the different waffles that you can choose from and they will modify them to what you like! We got 13,14,15, and 24. The fruits were really fresh! The only thing bad is that when you eat, if you got a cream topping then it was really messy to eat because the small 2 throngs wood "fork" won't cut it and you will get it all over your face. Conveniently located from the center and peeing boy statue!
Waffle display looked so appetizing on the outside. It was conveniently placed next to the famous statue in Brussels. Service was quite rude with us, the line was inconvenient as space is very limited inside, and the waffles were not that good as they were not freshly made. They were pre made and were just gave to us after ordering.
With only ~36 hours in Brussels, I didn't have time to sample multiple waffle shops. This was my only waffle. It was the first thing I ate a few hours after landing. Perhaps I needed the sugar rush to get me through jet lag, but I found my waffle to be amazing! Piled high with abundant strawberries and crème, drizzled with chocolate. Heaven! The waffle beneath the toppings held up quite well, in my opinion. Some day, I will have to sample others. We hit this place at a brief lull. Waffles served quickly. The only challenge was the tiny wooden fork. Difficult to eat without making a mess. My husband's proves messier than mine. Have some wet wipes handy!
Atmosphere: Le Funambule appears to be a waffle shop popular among tourists, and admittedly, we were drawn to the shop due to its colorful display of waffles and inviting smells. Inside, the shop is small, only able to fit a line of patrons. You'll also find a statue of the Mannekin Pis statue eating a waffle! Service: The person who made our waffle helped explain the differences between their menu items and made our waffle swiftly! Though she forgot the strawberries at first, she was apologetic and quick to correct her mistake. Food: We ordered the strawberries and cream waffle (#14). Our plate was overflowing with whipped cream, white chocolate drizzle, and strawberry toppings. This made the waffle a bit difficult to eat, but it was delicious nonetheless! We thought that the balance of toppings was good, even with the large portions. Overall: For the price, Le Funambule offered a decently sized waffle. As it was quite sweet, we would especially recommend their waffles to someone who has a big sweet tooth!
The first waffle I had in brussels - there's a long queue with an efficient ordering system - you choose the number associated with the picture. We got the liege with chocolate and bananas, but I felt that the waffle was too hard, even though it was freshly made. Perhaps they don't have enough time to dedicate to each waffle because of the super touristy location and the long queues, but I was a bit disappointed. The bananas were also hard and cold. However, the place is very instagrammable as they display the largest variety of toppings I've seen.
Yummy!! I tried a waffle here and a waffle across the street and this was absolutely the superior waffle. Perfectly caramelized and nice and chewy on the inside. We had the waffle as part of a tour and our tour guide told us to make sure when we order to always request a fresh waffle. So, pro tip - always get one right off the waffle iron instead of pre-cooked and sitting out. The only bummer was, on our last day we wanted to have a waffle here and the place was open but no staff were behind the counter. We waited more than a few minutes and no one came to the counter. While that was a bummer - it's still a delish waffle!
One of the quintessential experiences in Brussels is to eat a waffle, specifically of the Liège variety. Compared to the American waffle they can be eaten anytime as a street food. Liège waffles are characterized by their round shape, deeper pockets, dough consistency akin to brioche bread and the pearl sugar integrated into the dough, which when heated gives the waffles their distinctive taste. Due to the popularity of these waffles you can find waffle shops all across Belgium. This one in particular is located right next to Manneken Pis. Its location makes it a prime spot for tourist traffic as you see many people stepping inside for a waffle. A plain waffle goes for €1 and a waffle with a glaze can go for €2-€2.50. Waffles with more topping such as whipped cream or fruit can start from €5. You can see the many varieties produced in a display right in front of the store. My parents and I were looking for a nibble as we had a beer and chocolate tour later in the day. We stumbled upon this and although I had hesitations about this place my parents thought that this place would be ok. I was proven right as I got an overpriced waffle for around €6 with bananas and whipped cream. The waffle was soggy and lukewarm and there was little banana on top with lots of whipped cream. Sadly this was the last waffle that I had on the trip. In retrospect I wish I had more opportunities to try better waffles in Brussels.
Stopped by here while in Brussels and had their plain waffle. It was fluffy and decadent with little extra sweet/crispy bites of sugar on the inside. This was by far my favorite waffle in the area. Definitely recommend!
So before coming to Brussels, I read a bunch of different blogs trying to figure out where was the best place to get a Belgian waffle. In the end, I couldn't get a decisive answer, so I spent my one day in Belgium trying waffles from all of the highest rated waffle shops in Brussels and Le Funambule wins my vote as best waffle shop in Brussels. While they don't have as many topping options as the shop across the street, the waffle dough is just perfect. I could have eaten it without any toppings and enjoyed it just as much. 11/10 recommend!!
Le Funambule makes excellent waffles! We arrived just as they opened and it smelled absolutely divine. The store has all the waffles they offer on display (which they make every morning) so you know exactly what your waffle will look like. It's also a great location, since it's right next to the Manneken Pis. The street also has various shops selling Belgian chocolates, touristy souvenirs, and other waffle shops. After browsing the display, we ended up ordering 6 waffles (by number or point to the one you want on the display): 2 Liège waffles (very basic, but never disappoints), one with fresh strawberries & powdered sugar, one with bananas & strawberries, whipped cream, & chocolate syrup, one with strawberries, whipped cream, and & chocolate & caramel syrup, and one with whipped cream topped with caramel & strawberry syrup. The waffle was a perfect balance with a crispy exterior and light and fluffy interior. If you don't want to spend to much on waffles, definitely go for the Liège waffle (very cheap!), which was dense and caramelized and the vanilla aroma very enticing. Its taste absolutely transcends any of the superfluous toppings. Overall, these waffles were great; freshly made and a perfect breakfast for an early chilly morning.

This place is in a great location as it is surrounded by chocolate shops, souvenir shops, other waffle shops and of course, Mannekin Pis. The waffles are 5.50 euros and are more expensive than the other waffle shops nearby. I walked by here previously but actually bought a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream in the evening. I was shocked and saddened when the gal that was helping me placed a pre-cooked waffle in the waffle iron and then served it to me. I was eating my waffle and had to admit that is was good but I was hoping that it would have been the best waffle I have even had; but sadly, it was not. I was even craving some strawberry glaze and as I was walking past other waffle shops while eating my waffle. If you can get a fresh made waffle here, please do and let me know how you liked it. If you can't get a fresh waffle here, save a few euros and buy one from across the way. This was a solid three stars. It wasn't bad, but did not meet my expectations for the best that I ever had.
You honestly don't know that you haven't experienced a real waffle (no matter how it's labeled) in you go to Belgium and preferably here. I wish I would have stayed and fit 5 more in my tummy. I only ate one and it was my only regret of our European tour. I had the dulce de leche with banana. Simple but decadent. The crunch and fluffiness of the waffle is mastered and you just have to go!
The sign says €1 Gaufres(Waffles)... But that's just for a plain waffle, nothing on it. You actually need to spend €3-8 to get something with fruit, cream, or sauces. We spent €4 on a chocolate and vanilla waffle...It was good, but very overpriced. This was our first and last Belgian waffle of the trip. We were in the tourist zone however, so many there are better and cheaper waffles elsewhere in Belgium. Sorry Belgium, you may have invented the "Belgian waffle", but America perfected them by making them bigger, better, and cheaper.

We made a special effort to get back to this shop and brought another couple we met on a walking tour back with us. We had never eaten here before, but from just looking through the window, it seemed like the best place to find good waffles. Our instincts were spot on!! My husband and I ordered different waffles so we could both get to taste two flavors. Both flavors were absolutely delicious. It's hard to find words to say how good they were. We didn't want to stop eating them. Our new companions seemed to agree with us. They were all smiles at having stuck with us as we scrambled to find the shop while needing to catch a train to leave town by a certain time. The service could have been better -- but after the first bite of their waffles, I stopped caring about service. read more
Actually torn because I got my waffle at the Frite A Maman across the street since they sell waffles from Le Funambule. Service at Le Funambule is not great- short and a little rude. I came by at 9:45 and was told they opened at 10, came back at 10:05, they said another 20 mins. I went to Frite and ordered my liege waffle (costs 3€ here as opposed to the 2.50 at Funambule). They just reheat the waffle in the iron. Service is much better here, nice and kind. The waffle itself was denser and sweeter than the Belgian waffle. I actually preferred this because of the crunchy bites and I didn't mind that some of it was a little floppy- it made for good bite ratios. read more

This place is right in the center of town, by the Grand Place, so there's tons of people in line for this place. And I can see why, the waffles are amazing! They have a display of waffles and you pick and choose the ones you want. We decided to just go with the powder sugar a little on top for breakfast since the others looked more for dessert and we wanted to save that for later, maybe after dinner. The waffle with just confectioner's sugar was amazing in itself. It was glazed with honey or something, crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. The sugar added just enough sweetness to it without making it too sweet. The line was short so we didn't have to wait long but later in the day, the lines tend to get longer. read more
Le Funambule RUINED Belgian style waffles for me... FOREVER. I've yet to eat anything remotely like the street waffles here. Waffles with caramel. Strawberries. Chocolate sauce. Plain. Sugar. Bananas. You name it, it will most likely give you a messy foodgasm in your mouth. Belgian style waffles differ from ours due to the fact that they're so amaze-balls, you can outright eat them plain. They're slightly crispy, warm and sweeter than your dear aunt Fannie. Anything extra atop the waffley goodness they serve here is just that much better. They give you an itty bitty plastic fork to feebly try and eat the waffle with but you eventually give in and use your hands to shovel it into your face. No biggie, you know you love your food when you are wearing it ! Don't forget to pose with the peeing-boy holding the waffle. That's some local flair for you. Merci, funambule ! read more

While my Yelp friend was busy enjoying his first order of Frites, I decided to venture out and look for some sweet. Le Funambule just right across was the perfect choice as it offers Belgian Waffles for 1 EUR. It is quite busy, which is always a good sign. Freshly made waffle with just a touch of powder sugar, the way I enjoy mine plain and simple. Of course you can just tops it up with whatever fruits, sauce or whipped cream you want. A little sweet, a little crispy outside but dense and doughy texture. Carbs Heaven! read more

Contrary to some of the other reviews, my plain waffle was fresh and hot. The outside was nice and crisp, while the inside was soft and fluffy - all the traits of a perfect waffle for 2 euro. If I hadn't just eaten lunch, I probably would have gotten two more for the walk home. read more

These waffles weren't worth the line or price. I was highly disappointed especially since they didn't give you any knife just a fork. I would try another place next time. read more

Never seen so many varieties of toppings for waffles. It was so yummy and fresh, wish the serving plates and forks were more stronger & not so flimsy. Do xpct a bee or two following you arnd, sharing a little honey from your waffle as you try to eat it asap :) read more
My first waffle at Belgium and I can't say I was impressed. I ordered the strawberry and banana with a dark chocolate drizzle and whip cream on the waffle. It cost 6 euros and if it had ice cream, I think I would have enjoyed it more. They were not made on the spot - probably 1 minute old which is still considered fresh to some. I really wanted it crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside but it was just soggy. Even the pieces that didn't have toppings on it were soggy. read more

A quick-fire Gaufre and Pancake shop directly next to the unimpressive Manneken Pis, Le Funambule seems to be one of 'those' places tourists get lured into as a simple result of location, and taking the bait of "Fresh, Hot Waffles at 9h00 on Saturday the €1 Liege was a decent value on the money despite pricy toppings, but certainly the worst of its kind tasted in Belgium. At this point more than familiar with the street-food, dough with pearl sugar pre-made and pressed into hot irons, Le Funambule banks heavily on the Pissing Boy by way of decoration and featuring statues several-times the size of the original - eating ice cream - the simple fact is that the dough was overworked to the point of being too stretchy, the sugar lost amid the grid though the Cookie Butter from a Jar and premade Whip were themselves tasty. read more
I was happy to see that Liege style waffles/gaufres were everywhere in Brussels... just as I had dreamed (yes I love them more than the rectangular Brussels style gaufre). But when we first walked toward the Grand Place, the first few waffle/ice cream shops we saw sold gaufre for 4.50€ which I thought was pricy since I can get them for $3.50 in the US. So after walking around through the side streets some more, we found Le Funambule where gaufre with toppings were 2.50€. It was easy to choose from the samples they had displayed and I went with chocolate and chantilly cream (which ended up being like whipped cream). The tiny plastic fork they gave was really just like a toothpick and difficult to use so it just became a mess ripping/biting away parts of the waffle while trying to walk. But the waffle was good which I love to eat plain. The toppings were fine and I was happy with my first gaufre in the country. I had Leonidas' gaufre the next day and loved it more especially because of the rich chocolate topping. We didn't get a chance to find the real Manneken Pis even though we were closeby so the one at Le Funambule holding the gaufre was sufficient. read more

I got the plain waffle. They had plenty of choices. My waffle also included frozen juice. This was a really nice touch on a hot summer day. The workers were working really hard dealing with large crowds. read more
Get the Liege style waffle (the irregular shaped oval) with nothing but powdered sugar. They hand it to you in a piece of paper and you can walk around while you eat it. It was warm, straight out if the iron, crunchy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, so delicious!! We saw a lot of people eating their waffles on the street on a paper plate with fork and tons of toppings (ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, etc.), and to me, it just detracts from the taste of the delicious waffle itself. Also, it looks incredibly hard to eat with a plastic fork on a paper plate while sitting on a sidewalk step. Not fun, if you ask me. This place is the real deal. It's about s block or so past the Manneken Pis statue on the same side of the street. read more

The last thing you need to read is me waffling on about my experience here. Belgian waffles in Belgium aren't hard to come by, and although the display from the street looked pretty enticing on the whole I was a little disappointed by Le Funambule. My waffle was OK, nothing much wrong with it but not the shining example I expected to be presented with when visiting the home of the waffle. It was pretty solid and it came with the most pathetic flimsy little fork which just bounced off it like a fly hitting your windscreen. I had to resort to a most undignified method of consuming it which basically involved stuffing it into my mouth with scant regard for what would happen to the cream on top. It's almost next door to manneken pis, so at least you have something notable to look at while you eat mediocre waffle. Next time I'd go somewhere else though. read more

It was satisfying and not overly sweet. We wanted a real Belgian Waffle and for 2 Euros, we got 2 yummy waffles to start our day off. I didn't get the correct order though and the workers didn't look like they were in the mood to provide customer service so we just left. I agree with the service reviews, they didn't care. For being the most popular waffle stand on the strip, you would think they would appreciate the business - definitely not the case. I looked around to see the other non-busy waffle shops and found myself wishing to have given them our business instead. read more

So my boyfriend and I were on vacation and I found this place via a youtuber and we decided to try it. Long story short, it was delicious! Our first visit we got a waffle with strawberries, powdered sugar and whipped cream for 5 euros. The whip cream was so thick and just amazing, hands down the best damn whipped cream I've ever had. The waffle was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside with crusted sugar on top, heaven! But I wouldn't recommend trying to use the mini fork the give you, its torture, haha. Our second visit we got just a plain waffle for 1 euro, UHMAZING! So so good. I recommend trying the waffle by itself first to get the true flavor and all of its glory. read more

After you have your first am beer (and how not to have or while you are on vacation in the beautiful Brussels) you definitely need a Belgian waffle. This place is right in the center on your way to the manneken pis. All tastes and waffles you want at one !!!! € 1!! Enjoy! read more

Excellent waffles and I should really thank a madam who bought this waffle for me. It was my first afternoon here and all I had was 5 British pounds, I thought it was euros and I asked for the strawberry&chocolate one. Later on when the waffle was ready, I realized that I had no cash to pay for it. I was so embarrassed and I felt so sorry. Next minute, a lady who stood behind me paid for my bill instead and we enjoyed a little conversation. I was sorry that I did not quite get her English and I was so touched that I totally forgot to ask her name! And she would not willing to take my pounds. Again, I was truly lucky and grateful! Hopefully someday she will see this. I wish you a great vacation and happy everyday! Love Brussels, how sweet and kind you are! read more
